Avelyn is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.
An extremely rare rapid-firing crossbow.
Fires three successive bolts by means of an elaborate mechanism. Inflict heavy damage by making all three shots count.
Despite its use as a weapon, this crossbow is also a priceless work of art, and it bears resemblance to a musical instrument.
Skill: Tackle
Lunge into a shoulder tackle, pushing back enemies to create distance.
Notes and Tips:
- Cannot be Buffed or Infused.
- Reinforced with Titanite.
- Is severely outclassed in terms of raw damage and range, beating beaten out by every Crossbow by 100+ AR and 10-20+ range. However, the Avelyn has the advantage of firing off 3 times in quick succession, making it very effective at close range and a nice quick and easy damage dealer
- Individual shots of the burst are weak, however if all three shots land on the target it deals the most damage of any Crossbow with every ammo type.
- Can be exchanged with this game's Nestling Crow for 3 Titanite Scales.
Location/Where to Find
- Found in the Grand Archives. Climb the first shortcut ladder or pass through the very dark room where you can also find Power Within. Then go up the first flight of stairs and across the balcony with a broken railing at the end where a single Scholar is standing. Drop down onto the bookshelf below and then roll off these onto bookshelves even further below. (video location)

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

stamina consumption of this weapon is higher than other crossbows.
Cancel animation also doesn’t work sometimes so you have to just stand still instead of poking the opponent.

at lower reinforcement (+1, +2 tops) the damage is very comparable to the other crossbows so it's pretty solid at that point. if you manage to hit 2-3 bolts consistently you can easily kill people, but that's hard unless you're free aiming explosive bolts or you're really good at punishing whiffs. whiff punishing + leo ring + heavy bolt is a killer combo at low sl, but it's so hard to land properly that most the time you're better off just using explosive and learn how to free aim

Splintering bolts is absurdly effective in this. Not only bleeds 90% of the time, it laughs on hyper armor with so many proyectiles. Stagger with the first r1 (my personal choice is the mace for high stagger or morion blade for when you re about to die and they get cocky), fire that burst and rollcatch if they dodge near you with another r1

modern soldier build ... morion blade , red tearstone , blue tearstone , ring of steel protction +3 , keep health under 20% , VIG 50. END 25. VIT 40. STR 11. DEX 14... now you can have 260 max hp , 50+ physical absorbtion and high damage per bolts... don’t forget about wearing the fallen knight armor set for the camo... now hide in the bushes and fortnite snipe invaders with your legendary SCAR... fun garanteed , except against casters that non stop spam and make you die in one hit... but remember... you deal high physical damage and you are pretty resistant to physical damage... but always be careful and always prepare to dodge... never be cocky around any builds with this build

This thing is pretty op at early levels when everyone's damage absorption is absolute garbage. You can cut an opponents health bar in half with one volley.

Avelyn + exploding bolts = utimate counter to casters and spammers. Also not a lot of people expect you to quickly pull out a machine gun out of your pocket in the middle of a battle

Co-oped with a friend while using the Avelyn and my friend was using the repeating crossbow. And my God did it work wonders at repelling invaders. Just way too many arrows to deal with and on top of that the combined arrow volleys easily broke the poise of any players using small to mid shields.

It feels nerfed compared to the Dark Souls 2 incarnation. Infuse it with Raw and it's the closest thing you have to a machinegun.

Although I prefer the Arbalest when it comes to raw damage, this thing rocks in PVP. If you come across a chugger and you manage to bring them down to low health but not kill them, this thing will easily finish them off before they can get a sip.

A crossbow in each hand would be six successive shots. But would Defenses cause it's damage to dwindle in PVP due to the multiple hits?128 Physical and 140 Fire damage with Exploding Bolts.or 192 Physical damage with Heavy Bolts.
Really not much more to say. Good backup weapon to catch flaskers, and reliable in PvE overall even if you get it crazy late. Great for jolly-cooperation.I don't think it really outclasses the other, surprisingly very viable crossbows though, it just brings multi shot to the utility table but not necessarily substantially higher if higher at all damage. Great with Lightning bolts as usual.

For anyone wondering the base dmg is 64, and it can not be infused or buffed. Stats are as following:+1 = 70+2 = 76+3 = 83+4 = 89+5 = 96+6 = 102+7 = 108+8 = 115+9 = 121+10 = 128P.S. Sorry if the formatting sucked, this is my first time posting info and stats. Hope it helps you.
