Black Knight

Enemy Type Humanoid
Weakness Frost, Dark, Poison/Toxic
Resistances Fire, Lightning, Physical-type
Immune Rapport

Black Knights are an Enemy in Dark Souls 3.

Enemy Description

  • Knights wearing heavy dark armor, which are remnants from the First Age of Fire.

Combat Information

  • There are 2 Black knights at Smouldering Lake, 1 at Farron's Keep Perimeter and 4 at Untended Graves. They use either Black Knight's Greatsword or Black Knight's Greataxe.
  • Will attack any dark spirit and most enemies without activating Giant Tree Seed.
  • Deals massive Standard Damage or Strike Damage.
  • Weak to Dark Damage, Frost, Poison and Toxic.
  • Minor resistance to Fire Damage and Lightning Damage, medium to Physical-type Damage and Bleed.
  • Immune to Rapport.
  • Can't be lured using Alluring Skull.

Notes & Trivia

  • Their gear is all high-quality and their challenge makes it worth grinding them for the loot and the combat practice.
  • Unlike their Dark Souls 1 counterparts, they have less health, but also respawn. Getting a desired piece of gear from them becomes more a matter of patience than luck.
  • Unlike variations met in Dark Souls II, their weapons does not deal extra fire damage.
  • They attack in sequences specific to whatever particular Black Knight Weapon one is using, and have regular tells for each sequence. With enough experience, it gets easy to set up a backstab.
  • Can be lured into doing helpful things for you sometimes. You can trick one into killing Knightslayer Tsorig in the Smouldering Lake, for example.

These knights may be weak to dark just like their Silver counterparts. When tested with one weapon infused with each element, dark did the most. Others should take a look to confirm.

          Easy Kill on 1st Black Knight.18 Apr 2016 12:24

          Black Knight in Road Of Sacrifices. There is two 'easy' ways;
-The long ranged way which we all know and is very tedious/risky as he can quickly close the gap and chases for quite a distance.
-Equip 'Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring' go up the stairs to the right of him, drop down behind him and walk upto him (behind slightly to his left), Charge Heavy attack with hard hitting weapon followed by as many light attacks you can leaving enough stamina to roll away before he turns around.
If done correctly he should turn after the charged heavy and do a side swipe attack but strangely does it away from you leaving you time to get those quick attacks in (sometimes he will do overhand slash and not attack opposite direction)
If done correct you should have him on half health or less to start fight.
To finish the job study his moves, try coaxing him into a mid ranged stab or running stab and dodge and get 1 hit in and dodge back as you'll likely not stagger him and he hits back quick, repeat till dead.
For best results at farming Black Knight Equipment use: Heavy hitting weapon & 100% Physical absorb sheild, slumbering dragoncrest ring & switch to Crystal Sage's Rapier for the final blow to increase Drop Rate.

- Milton.
