Champion's Bones is a Key Item in Dark Souls 3.

Champion's Bones

The charred but warm bones of a champion.
Burn at the Firelink Shrine bonfire to participate in Undead Matches.

Long ago, an Undead declared a fight.
A fight to celebrate their undeath, and so to preserve what remained of their souls.
So it was that the Undead Matches were born.

The merit of an Undead is measured in deaths.
Could there be a greater gift for such a creature, than a fight that has no end?

Champion's Bones Usage

  • Burn at Firelink Shrine bonfire to unlock access to the Undead Match in the Hollow Arena

Champion's Bones Locations

Champion's Bones Notes

  • Champion's Bones will be consumed by burning them at the Firelink Shrine's bonfire; however, you keep the option of entering the Hollow Arena in next game cycles

Garenteed drop from Champion gravetender and wolf
(Dropped from Lapp as well if Champion Gravetender has not been defeated)

"Can be obtained from Lapp's questline in the Ringed City if one does not own the Ashes of Ariandel DLC."

This is incorrect; I own both DLCs and got the bones from finishing Lapp's questline without having killed the Gravetender+Wolf. Whichever one you do *first* is what gets you the item.

So I don't own any of the DLC and I've completed the game ~3 times and haven't seen this item yet. I just got it off of a drop because I'm doing a randomiser run. As an FYI it's useless if you're in my position

I killed Lapp in Dreg Heap and he didnt drop the champion ashes for undead arena, how do I unlock arena now? I didnt feel like doing his questline again. Please help.

So.....the item carries over to NG+ and so on even though you already burnt one in Firelink and has access to Undead match?
NG+4 and my OCD is kicking in....already got 2 or 3 of those in my key items.
I like to beat all the bosses including the optional ones every playthrough so Id hate it if I have to skip Gravetender so It wont stack more.
They should at least let the extra champion's bones be discarded or not get carried over IF undead match is already available....sigh~

I own both DLCs and got the bones from completing Lapp's questline (killed Friede in Ariandel but didn't kill the Champion Gravetender & wolf).

I received Champions Bones even though I own Ashes of Ariandel (season pass). Perhaps it's because I haven't actually done the first dlc though?

i own AOA, beat all bosses except greatwolf and just went back into 'shared grave' area because i skipped the dragon and did the rest of the dlc2 and patches kicked me down the stairs some and i came back later and got lapp's armor and champ bones.

Do you have to obtain the Champion Bones every new game cycle in order to access the arena or just once in total?
