Church Guardian Shiv is a Projectile in Dark Souls 3. It is part of The Ringed City DLC.

Church Guardian Shiv

This special throwing blade has a flat tip, and is wielded by guardians of the Church of Filianore.

Consume FP to project illusory blades which seek their targets.

Guardians of the Church, of whom few remain, watch over Princess Filianore's eternal slumber along with the Spears of the Church.

Church Guardian Shiv Usage

  • Throw illusory blades that seek foes.

Church Guardian Shiv Locations

  • The Ringed City: From the Ringed City Streets bonfire, head out into the swamp. Head all the way to the back end where there is a chapel of sorts surrounded by praying monk hollows. It is located inside. (Video Location)

Notes

  • Has B scaling with Strength and A scaling with Dex.
  • The damage is significantly low when compared to Throwing Knives and Kukris. However, unlike Kukris and Throwing Knives, the Church Guardian Shiv has slight homing ability.

The only real stupid thing about this item is that it consumes FP, BUT scales from str and dex. Which means for fighters with no attunement investment and for casters with no str/dex investment this shiv is performing extremely underwhelming.

This thing is so ****ing weird. It stuns for a long time when I get stunned by it. No idea how this thing can stun but also most of the stuns were with people who are laggy af and they're nowhere near to get a hit with their weapon

all the people saying this ruins ToD miss the point of Tears...the trade. the worst thing about ToD is knowing you'll lose the trade if you both "die", and you can't throw a shiv if you're dead... :'( honestly, i like shivs best for applying pressure to run-away enemies in arena. there, the little damage actually matters.

Use cheap revive spells, get finished off by a cheap homing knife. What's that saying about glass houses?

Way too many people use this on Tears of Denial users in duels. If you're using it against an invader, that's fine, but not if it's a goddamn honorable duel. Finish your opponent rightly.

I was actually wondering if anyone knows whether or not the hawk rung can affect their damage and potentially their overall range. This could make up for the lower damage output.

God so many people complaining about the dmg as if it were supposed to do dmg. It's meant to finish off stupid rollers when they have low hp if a TK does 100 dmg and the enemy has like 200 or if these do 50 and the enemy has 200 it's a 2 thrpws difference and you don't have to buy them all the time and they scale with str why would y'all complain i mean really

A nice addition if you don't like having to go back the the Shrine Handmaid to keep buying Throwing Knives. They also look badass. While the damage is rather lackluster, it makes up for that with landing consistently. Hitting someone who has 1 HP and is rolling everywhere with knives is annoying, but it's less of a chore with this since it homes in on its target. The 9 FP cost is rather annoying though, so it would have been nice to see that dropped to 5 FP. Oh well, they still do their job.

7/10, needed a cost reduction, but otherwise works fine as a TK replacement.

                    • Best Agro tool in the game for farming souls at Lothric Castle Bonfire. Roll towards steps after end of rest, target Lothric Knight and toss one shiv. Saves many seconds over grinding periods as it bring him to you in a situation where you can one shot him within steps of the Bonfire. Even if not combat effective, this tool has its perks.

Against hollows outside of Firelink Shrine with 40str/40dex:
Church Guardian Shiv does 54 damage
                          Throwing Knife does 98 damage
Kukri does 252 damage - plus bleed buildup

This throwing dagger might be a reference to Ultra Seven's Eye Slugger based on the shape and VFX similar to it. Could be a good addition to the trivia section.

I'm not sure if this confirmed or not but I threw some of these at an opponent as a Spear of the Church and they stuck on to him. All of a sudden he started to Heavy Roll and couldn't get away anymore until death. Perhaps these shivs has a secondary effect to add extra weight to the enemies?

Basically FP CHUGGING throwing knives with slightly tracking but also half the damage of throwing knives. Basically, these things are *****ing garbage except for maybe throwing ONE in pvp to finish someone off, but they do so little damage that they have to be REALLY *****ing low for it to even work

                                    • Anonymous

Good against those players who run when they have 1 HP left thanks to Tears of Denial. A barrage of at least 3 of these usually kills them while they're running/rolling. They deal physical damage only though, so they won't work as well against turtlers. And then there's the FP cost... oh well, can't have it all I suppose.

                                        Cost is 9 Fp
Damage test- High wall of lothic ng+, stats 50 str, 50 dex
on a hollow they deal 52 damage, by comparison throwing knives deal 95, and kukri deal 268
At 52 Int court sorcerer staff +10, for 4 Fp great farron dart deals 60 damage
All things considered they are simply not worth using they need to have their damage raised or cost lowered to even be decent

These aren't exceptionally damaging, but have amazing cheese potential. If you absolutely cannot beat something that's in your way (like the Giant in Irithyll Dungeon or something), have decent FP but lack any real spells, and have a good mix of STR/DEX, you can easily allot yourself 15 Ashen Estus Flasks and throw dozens of these at whatever you want to kill.
