Crystal Chime is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

A sacred chime, once the possession of Gertrude, the Heavenly Daughter, and defiled by the scholars of the Grand Archives.

The power of crystals granted the scholars a degree of success. In this case, their work enabled this chime to be suitable for casting both miracles and sorceries.

Skill: Gentle Prayer
Recovers HP for a period of time, albeit extremely slowly. Works while equipped in either hand.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
  • Can be used to cast both Miracles and Sorceries.
  • Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
  • This chime gets dual Intelligence and Faith scaling on all magic sorceries and all lightning miracles, but the physical miracles will only scale with Faith. It technically gets the dual Intelligence and Faith scaling on dark sorceries and dark miracle however still suffers from low damage when casting these.
  • Weapon buff spells do not gain dual scaling with the Crystal Chime, and will scale as is normal for them.
  • This chime's softcap is 45 Intelligence and 45 Faith. The scaling beyond those points is unusually low, even for a softcap.
  • The chime has to remain active in your hand for the weapon art to continue regenerating health.
  • At 60 INT and 60 FTH it has a spellbuff of 227.

I suppose this is good for pyro builds who want to dabble in sorcery. I plan on upping my father to 12 to use a immolation tinder, what is the spell buff on this with 60int/18fth?

      • 12 Dec 2016 08:19

On a standard pyro build (40 intelligence, 40 faith), and assuming all catalysts are at max upgrade: with MAGIC sorceries: this chime outdamages the Cleric's Candlestick, Heysel's Pick, the Court Sorcerer Staff, the Izalith Catalyst and the Sage's Crystal Staff, even when considering Steady Chant (followed by Court Sorcerer without Chant, and Sage's with Chant). with DARK sorceries: this chime outdamages the Cleric's Candlestick, Heysel's Pick, the Court Sorcerer Staff, and the Sage's Crystal Staff, even when considering Steady Chant, and is outdamaged by the Izalith Catalyst, with or without Chant. It's worth noting that this chime DOES enjoy the benefits of an offhand Scholar's Candlestick, just like any staff. This testing was done without one, and I didn't see the point in doing a separate test which considered the Scholar's Candlestick, since the playing field would remain equal and the staves wouldn't have any more of a leg-up over the chime.

        • 12 Dec 2016 07:51

On a standard pyro build (40 intelligence, 40 faith), and assuming all catalysts are +5: with LIGHTNING miracles, this chime outdamages the Sunless Talisman, the Canvas Talisman, the White Hair Talisman, the Cleric's Sacred Chime, Yorshka's Chime, and Caitha's Chime, with Caitha's Chime in second place. With DARK miracles, this chime outdamages the Canvas Talisman, the White Hair Talisman, the Cleric's Sacred Chime, and Yorshka's Chime, and is outdamaged by the Sunless Talisman and Caitha's Chime (Caitha's first place, Sunless second place). With PHYSICAL miracles, this chime is outdamaged by all of the above catalysts, with Yorshka's Chime in first place and the Cleric's Chime in second place.

I have a FTH/INT build of 44/44 and STR/DEX of 46/46 and I like to use greatswords and miracles and sorceries and pyromancies what is the best recommendation in terms of weapons and spells?

            • 18 Oct 2016 22:46

My plan for Dark Souls 3 is to make a pyromancy build, but use the faith and intelligence required to use a pyro build to also use sorceries and miracles. Is the Crystal Chime viable for this, or should I equip a catalyst and a talisman instead?

              • Idol's Chime Dark Souls 231 Aug 2016 12:00

Hmm if you took away the crystals from this chime I think it looks like Idol's Chime from Dark Souls 2. Idol's chime was also a unique faith/int dedicated chime that interestingly enough belonged to Licia of Lindelt. Licia herself was in possession of the Soothing Sunlight miracle, a miracle of Gywnevere..although how she obtained it may be questionable as it's implied she stole it. That being said, she came from Lindelt, a place known for it's clerics and dare I say, the Way of the White, which is dedicated to Gywnevere. Lindelt was even run by a royal family who held possession of the ring of restoration, a sun ring with the ability to heal people continually, not unlike Gywnevere's ring. The really interesting part is that Lindelt is in possession of the Monastary Set of armor. If you google this armor you will find it is identical to the Painted Guardians Set from Ariamis. So Lindelt is connected to Gywnevere and Ariamis/Velka ,and in turn all of these are connected back to Gertrude's Chime.

Looks just like a lightsaber. Using it against the Abyss Watchers(especially phase 2) was the most fun I've ever had, even if the damage isn't amazing.

                  • Tiny parry?28 Jul 2016 22:53

Is worth using/upgrading if your only gonna really use it for soulsword/flashsword or is the extra damage worth the extra parry risk in PvP when usng a proper staff?

                    • Really Good12 Jul 2016 07:47

Since this chime can cast both sorceries and miracles,I can use Magic,Blessed and Lightning Weapon Sorceries/Miracles at only the price of one weapon slot

                      • Scaling24 Jun 2016 07:03

So maybe this is a noob question, but the wiki page says that the softcap is at 45/45, would the bonus be same if I had 48/42 Int/Fth? I want to be able to cast CSS if I use this catalyst but I don’t want to waste levels.

                        • ...15 Jun 2016 01:47

When you have a good Int/Faith (40/40), this chime seems to be the best for casting Normal Sorceries and Lighting Miracles.
Very low damage with spells that deals Physic or dark damage.

                          • very high damage13 Jun 2016 03:58

This chime seems to be very usefull for those that simply put enough numbers to wield it. My character has 18 int and fth for using utility spells and using this catalyst since it is very light and my equip liad is very low . Surprisingly with proper items great heavy soul arrow cast with this catalyst deals high damage. When aiding a friend in coop i used that spell on the first giant in cathedral of the deep, and with all of the sorcery boosting items equipped the spell dealt 1099 dmg per hit. I killed the nameless king with the same item and spell without equipping the scholars candlestick and magic clutch ring, dealin 320 dmg per cast.

                            • Darkmoon Blade Scaling06 Jun 2016 15:21

Tested with Darkmoon Blade at 25 INT 45 FTH +5 Chime : 212 Spellbuff

Darkmoon Blade is AR + (.96 x spellbuff)

So it should be AR + 203

My base AR is 555 so the total should be 758

HOWEVER

since the physical miracles only scale off of the intelligence stat it gets a 51 AR penalty for not scaling with the INT

Actual values for DMB is about 71% of the spellbuff at 45 FTH

so 555 + (.71 x 212) = 707

the 707 AR is what is shown on my Stats Page after buffing

                              • equal Int/Faith more efficient?23 May 2016 09:31

I just wanted 25-35 faith to cast some restorative miracles, and the crystal chime scaled with both int and faith for sorceries so I wanted to use this for its dual casting utility (also farron flashsword looks cool using this). Does the crystal chime need equal int and faith or can I have a lower faith than int and still get nearly the same spellbuff per stat point invested?

                                • Dark Miracle/Sorcery damage versus equivalent catalyst16 May 2016 08:38

So I decided to test the damage numbers at 45 int/45 fth with the Crystal Chime, Caitha's Chime, and the Izalith Staff because I was curious how much of a damage loss it would be for the convenience of having a catalyst capable of casting any spell in the game except Pyromancies. I tested 5 of the 6 (did not have Great Deep Soul at the time) Dark spells that deal damage, and here's the numbers I came up with (Dark Blade values are the amount of AR I gained on the weapon).

Crystal Chime: Dorhys' Gnawing - 313 Caitha's Chime: Dorhys' Gnawing - 407 Izalith Staff: Deep Soul - 184
Dark Blade - 137 Dark Blade - 154 Affinity - 270
Deep Soul - 147 Dark Edge - 456
Affinity - 256
Dark Edge - 360

Note the highest damage loss is 96 on Dark Edge, followed by 94 on Dorhys' Gnawing. I would have used Great Deep Soul as well in the testing but I have not gotten around to farming it from the covenant yet. All in all though, I would imagine it will also be in the 90 damage loss range at most which in my personal opinion isn't that big of a loss when you consider the ability to use any spell in the game with the same catalyst (again, excluding Pyromancies). All of these damage tests were done against the man-grub enemies outside of the Rosaria's Bedchamber.

• Where's the Dark Catalyst?!?!?!?!08 May 2016 21:14

They have a talisman for miracls and pyros, and this little chime for miracles and sorceries but it doesn't do ***** for Dark... THE FFFUUUUUUUUQQQQQQ.....
Dark Magic is the only school where the spells are split between miracles and sorceries and there's NOTHING to cast them both with fruitfully....
Wtf Fromsoft, just wtf... Give me Manus' staff or something, this is just counter-intuitive as all hell..

                                    • One chime to attune them all, and in the darkness, cast them!08 May 2016 00:07

The versatility of this chime is astounding. Not only does it have a great spell-casting bonus, but I can cast 66% of the spells in the game with this (and the other 33% in my other hand ;) ).

                                      • Pyromancer ultra mage05 May 2016 07:20

"scales with INT and FTH" seems perfect for pyromancers who want to dip their into the other magics without cluttering up their weapon slots. given the spells themselves each have specific scalings but oh well.

                                        • Okay I just did some serious testing on this bad boy.26 Apr 2016 16:46

M'kay so if you read up on the items description you'll be aware that some SORCERIES are actually scaled on your Int and Fth stat both together, like Dark would be, but in reality Dark ust sucks on this chime.

Though here's the interesting part... I do my testing on the Twin Princes boss fight because the music gives me an eargasm and I found some pretty interesting results...

At 50 Intelligence, using the well-know best Catalyst for high Int sorcerer's over level 45, the Court-Magician's Staff I was landing hits of 548 damage every Crystal Soul Spear I fired at 'em.

Though using this Crystal Chime here, taking into account that I have 45 Faith ontop of that 50 Intelligence, I was hitting HARDER at 569 damage per shot.

To be brief:
Intelligence: 50
Faith: 45
-----------
Court-Sorc's Staff: 548 per C.Soul Spear
Crystal Chime : 569 per C.Soul Spear

It's only a small increase and for one helluva investment, but I figured it's worth pointing out that if you really want to completely ignore Vit and End and any other stats other than Fth, Att and Int, this Chime appears to be the best Sorcery catalyst.
