Allow me to end the ignorance once and for all. The excerpt "stained with the misery of flight" refers to the constant travelling the fallen knights took part in which could include traversing through swamps. The armor set is found in Crucifixion Woods so it's pretty safe to assume they may have been through Farron Keep and Cathedral of the Deep. To put it in TL;DR form: If anything, they're as battle-hardened as they come, their athleticism is unmatched, and they may, or may not know your mother as a result.

I've played DS3 for quite a while, and I typically use this set in all of my playthroughs? Why? Because edgy doesn't equal bad. This set and Friede's Great Scythe, possibly more edgy than the Katana.

Also I'm a big Star Wars fan and this has that sort of aesthetic, so there is also that.

I've been playing this game for years and never put this set on, but in a recent playthrough as a pyro with low vitality this set just checked all the boxes, excellent defense to weight, good all round resistances and in found in a swamp right next the the great swamp pyro tome and next to the crab that drops the great swamp ring, so I thought this was pretty perfect for my character. Then I suddenly started getting messages in PvP about my gear and even one guy I co-op'ed with, mocking it. So I googled it, and well, I have no idea what happens to peoples minds when they play these souls games but it appears to effect some brains in a very negative and eccentric way. Great games but what a bizarre fan base.

One of those cases when a good piece of gear is absolutely destroyed by community of the game. Personally - i absolutely love this set. It was the set i finished my 1st blind playthrough with. I love the humble nature of it as it attempts to pathetically hide its real nature with clothes that are literally hanging by a thread. The lore suggest that the original owners were not a particularly brave set of individuals, so it makes it almost cute that something so cowardly and broken attempts to brave the dying world. Even default knight set has more dignity to it than this poor thing.

I used this set for my Reaper build. Dark Great Scythe and dark miracles. Looked better then the dark wraith's set to me. I felt like it really brought it all together.

I've been using this armor for... Quite a while, actually (since my first ng) and I recently tried to mix it with other sets, for now I've only stopped for 2 pieces (helm with the billed mask and torso with the fallen knight) but i can't choose any gauntlets nor trousers, so do you guys have an idea ?

This is a worn down black and gold version of the standard Knight set. Look at the inventory pictures for each piece and compare them, they are the same models, even the knives on the belt are the same. The gold lines on the helmet match perfectly with the gray lines on the Knight helmet. The pants are the same except the armor is removed and there are ropes tied on it, the gauntlets are the same too.

I'm guessing this armor was originally made for a higher tier of knights from the same place the standard knight armor came from, and has obviously seen considerable use(and peeing).

According to concept art from the DS3 Design Works book this was originally going to be Hawkwood's armor set or at least for a similar Deserter character that was eventually reworked into Hawkwood, armor at the time looked a bit like the Demons Souls Fluted armor. (Look at the shield it's very similar to Hawkwood's shield, the image is labeled as NPC: Deserter in the book and Hawkwood himself is absent from the Design Works Book)
