Demon is an enemy in Dark Souls 3

Demon Information

The Demon is a mini-boss enemy in Dark Souls 3. It is found roaming the Undead Settlement and Catacombs of Carthus. The Undead Settlement Demon is tied to Siegward of Catarina's quest, and the Catacombs of Carthus Demon drops a special soul that can be used in Soul Transposition.

Demon Location

  • Undead Settlement: Find the tower lift to the right of the area and drop down mid-way onto some rooftops, then further down to meet the demon.
  • Catacombs of Carthus: After you break the hanging wooden bridge, go down using it as a ladder to find the demon near a mimic and amongst many skeletons.

Strategies

Melee Strategies

Catacombs of Carthus:

  • Skeleton Strategy: Run down the stairs to meet the demon and run around the perimeter of the first platform. Two skeletons will rise and chase you. However, they are aggressive to the demon. Run past the demon and the skeletons will start to fight it. They do quite a bit of damage, but are easily killed by the demon. More skeletons can be found on the platform below the demon. Most of the skeletons have more than one life. Allow the skeletons to bludgeon the demon. Usually by the time all the skeletons die the demon is either dead or very close to dead. Mop up the rest of surviving skeletons (if there are any).
  • Skull Strategy: Using alluring skulls, bait the demon towards the edge, so that it will drop off to the lower platform. When the demon drops below, use a plunging attack or a jumping attack to deal massive damage very quickly. the skeletons in the lower section should keep it busy if you need to run to the upper platform to repeat this as necessary.

Ranged Strategy - Bows

Undead Settlement:
  • Run to the building where the dogs are and stand on the balcony. Shoot him until he dies.

Catacombs of Carthus:

  • Shoot the demon from the ledge away from the door. It may repeatedly attempt to breathe fire at you, which can be easily walked away from to allow you to regenerate stamina for your volleys.

Ranged Strategy - Magic

Undead Settlement:

  • Run down towards the shack on the left. There's a narrow path down the left side of the shack. Keep going and get the demon's attention; attack with Heavy Soul Arrow, etc.. Then quickly run back the way you came. Once you get close enough to the start Seigward  will activate. Let him start attacking the demon. Run back down past that shack and attack the demon from behind with Heavy Soul Arrow until it dies.

Other Strategies

Catacombs of Carthus:

  • Mimic: When you enter the room the demon is in, do not go down to him. Instead, continue on the path you are on until you reach the Mimic chest. After attracting the Mimic's attention, lure it down to the demon. The Demon and the Mimic will be hostile to one another and deal heavy damage to one another, usually with the Mimic killing the demon for you, allowing you to collect the soul of the demon. Be wary of the skeletons in the area, however, as they may swarm and kill you before the Mimic and the Demon finish with one another.
  • Cheese: Lure the Demon up the stairs and towards the doorway you entered from. Once he reaches the top of the stairs, he will slowly walk back down the stairs, becoming hostile only after he has made it all the way back down. During this time, he is open to attack.

Lore Theories

  • This demon was one of many created by the Chaos Flame, but since said flame has died, along with the other demons born of the Chaos Flame, it is possible that it, along with the one in the Catacombs of Carthus, and the Old Demon King, are the only demons left.
  • "Demons were born of the Chaos Flame, but the flame has not survived, and the demons are a dying race." - Soul of a Demon

the fact that you can count every demon you encounter in this game on two hands really goes to show how badly damaged their race is

Whenever you kill them remember: We only know five that are living
        Stray Demon
        Demon 1
        Demon 2
        Old demon king
        Demon prince

This boss AI is bugged. I moved from the stair to the bonfire. It looks like the demon then fought some skeletons. When I went back to the demon he was facing the wall and a remaining skeleton would not attack him. I went to the mimic, hit him and went to the stair. When I returned I saw the mimic attacking the back of the demon who did nothing until he died. When the mimic went back to sleep I hit him and moved to the smoldering lake. The mimic pursued me and disappeared, maybe hit by the ballista. I could not find him anywhere, then I reloaded the area at the bonfire and found the black blade at the original position of the mimic. This was on my 3rd playthrough.

Do Fiery Demons respawn? I'm a new player and I just defeated the one at the Undead Settlement with ONION MAN (TM), but I went back to a checkpoint while exploring a house when I saw two Evangelists in the same room. Does that dude respawn? And if so, can I get him to drop his soul?

When get the demon in catacombs to fight the mimic it is really funny to see and sometimes the mimic will fuk the demon up.

Love these guy's visual designs. Probably my favorite looking demon from Dark Souls, but I'd have to give my number one overall to Doom Eternal's Hell Knights

Last time I fought the demon in catacombs he has little hp left but charging his big AOE fire, then the skeletons killed him :D

What will happen to Siegward if I one shot that fire demon in undead settlement? I try it by using Millwood bow with red tear morion dragon form + hawk ring, and aim to headshot snipe it down before it trigger Siegward dialogue, but I failed, it remained last hit

It says that you only get "Soul of a Demon" from the one in catacombs. But I can confirm this is incorrect. I have only reached road of sacrifices but I have this soul in my inventory and can transpose it. I think I probably got it from the drop at undead settlement.

Demon in catacombs can be cheesed using a bow this may take longer but there is a slight chance the demon will glitch into the ceiling and if you walk to the bridge you will see the demon's head use an arrow against the head and it will fall into the abyss.

you dont even need to lure the mimic yourself in catacombs. the demon seems to use the fire breath attack 100% of the time as long as you haven't used the stairs yet and with some messing around and hitbox janking, you can get a fire breath to hit the mimic and it'll be auto agro'd to the demon. just be careful not to let the fire breath hit the mimic too many times are it'll die before getting to the demon

                          • Anonymous

Idk if this is a bug but when the demon chased me all the way to the mimic chest(hasn't transformed yet) it would step back in fear and wouldn't attack at all. Instead it would repeatedly chase and move back.

Finally got the mimic to follow me down the stairs without getting flamethrowered at the same time, and this mother*****er jump kicks me *through* the demon, and then the demon one-shots us both LOL

Does it look like a reimagined Taurus Demon to anyone else? Considering how the Stray Demon miniboss looks different from DS1 as well. Of course the demon ruins depict the original versions of both.

Fun fact: the skeleton at the feet of the one in the Catacombs, under the boss arena before the Smouldering Lake, will attack the Demon. I don't know if the Demon hit him or what, but I went down the stairs a little too far while cheesing the mini-boss (letting him come up the stairs, hitting him as he slowly walks backwards down it, then hiding to the right when he spits fire and repeating) and for some reason the skeleton stopped attacking me and finished off the last few hits on the Demon for me.

Immune to frostbite is a lie... i tuned him off every time i hit with irythil sword (he become whiter). Then he uses somekind aoe blast to turn his fire back on. Absolute abuse strategy to just turn him of with that sword, place a few hits, run away from blast and come again.

Just going through NG++, and tried to bait the Mimic to help out for the Fire Demon on the way to the Smoldering Lake. That Mimic single handedly destroyed the Demon. They got locked into some sort of animation loop where the Mimic kept getting it's large golf-swing kick attack in, staggered the Demon, and the Mimic went straight for the kick again while the Demon tried to wind up for an attack before getting staggered out of it again. Yep, that Mimic stagger locked and killed the Demon for me, all by itself. Best Mimic ever.

Magic and lightning also do respectable damage against these enemies. Also, you can lure the Knight Slayer Tsorig invader to the demons area and use a Seed of a Giant Tree to make them both fight.

a bit of a paradox that "chaos" is based on faith and intelligence but the "chaos-creatures" have always a huge chunk of str within their builds if I look at their weapons (Hammer, axe, Demon fists).

                                          • Anonymous

I got him to destroy the bonfires around him by dodging his attacks when near one. But Seigward died. It could be part of the key to making him less “overheated”. Maybe this in combination with some sneaking and Rapport can make him friendly without Siegward dying. Maybe show up befor Seigward?

Love leading em into the skeletons and letting them butt***** em. Mimic vs the demon seems to be weird though. Both the mimic and demon seem to be able to just about one hit each other. Mimic with that spin kick, while the demon and the flame breath. Least from the times I was able to get them to fight.

                                              • Discovered a potential glitch when fighting in the Catacombs. I ran over to the mimic to try to get him to use the fire trick, but he decided to run up the stairs to try and melee me instead. I think he's too tall for the walkway so he got stuck about halfway. I attacked him from range and occasionally he would become aggressive and charge at me, but if i took a step forward he would be pushed back to the same spot where he started glitching. Just rinse and repeat until he died. Any one else encounter/can replicate this?

You can use the Rapport pyromancy against this Demon (the magic which charms the enemy and making them a temporary ally), at least fir the one of the Catacombs of Carthus. Don't know if it works for the one of the Undead Settlement, but it should !
First time I used the Rapport pyromancy against this dude on ng +, I was so surprised it worked !
For me, it's the easiest way to kill him.
My English is very bad, hope everything I wrote makes sense.

When I used Great Magic Weapon( 123 spellbuff from Sorcerer Staff +3) + Bandit Dagger( +4), I killed the fire demon in about 30 seconds, lmao. Possible weakness to magic or dagger spam stronk?

Found a glitch where pulling the Demon to the entry door (Catacombs) and triggering his jump attack will occasionally send him into a rampant ragdoll seizure plummetting through the map after he has been taken down halfway.

This is an instant kill and did net me the would after about 40 seconds. Kill zone must be far down haha

So I used the spook spell to sneak my way to the other building, it succeeded and hasn't set the demon and siegward dialogue, I have a funny feeling it could be one of the only things left that hasn't been discovered? Also mayhaps putting the fires out without being seen could potentiall help he situation? Gods luck dark souls peps :) :)

Undead Settlement, get the irithyl sword from the outrider at the bottom of the elevator. i think it makes good damage even not upgraded. I stand on the wall and attack him from there, while siegward was tanking him.

                                                            • Anonymous

Or, run right past him and down the stairs at the at the end of the room. From the BOTTOM of the stairwell he can't hit you and there's a bonfire right around the corner. Easiest cheese in the whole game.

                                                              • Anonymous

In the catacombs, if the mimic doesnt kill him, run around the lower area and spawn all the skeletons. They'll take care of the demon for you ez.

                                                                • Anonymous

is this monster parryable? Seems like a silly question.. but don't have an answer because i suck at parrying

                                                                  • Anonymous

If you dodge when he charges at you, you can get him to fall down to where all the reanimating skeletons are and let them go to town.

                                                                    • Anonymous

if you can lure the demon to the doorway before you met him (which is very easy), you can hide behind the door and he cannot pass, allowing you to kill him completely safely with any kind of magic (although pyromancy will take significantly longer for obvious reasons). he also runs back to the doorway every time he is hit, meaning there is no need to keep putting yourself in harms way to lure him back.

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

I managed to get all of the skeletons to kill the demon for me by agroing them and then running past the demon and up the stairs. It may take a couple of runs for the skeletons to win, but if they don't, they will take his health down a good chunk, making him easier.

                                                                          • Anonymous

I'm sure other people have done this, but I actually accidentally came across this strategy. In the Undead Settlement, I had talked to Seigward, went half way up the elevator and jumped off onto the wooden platform. Then I saw Seigward was there now, sitting on the edge talking to me. I egsausted his dialogue and tried to climb down. When I got to the bottom, I suddenly noticed the demon and hid in a corner to think about my strategy. Suddenly, I heard Seigward say something like "No no, we should have waited! Oh well, I'll fight along side thee". Then I realized he came down to help fight the demon who was now coming after me and I tried to help him, that is until I realized Seigward didn't seem to have a health bar. After that I basically just sat in the corner and let Seigward beat the hell out of him. GG demon.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

when i encountered the carthus catacombs demon, i decided to lure it back up the stairway and close to the archway, i switched into the greatlance. after agressively baiting him to the point where one of his moves causes him to go forward too far, he will get stuck in the archway and slowly rise into the ceiling. when you run back inside, one of his feet can clearly be seen protruding through the ceiling near the archway. after enough damage was done with bow and arrows, he suddenly becomes agressive again and will try to reach you with his attacks. when you leave the archway again and head outside, his violent swings will cause him to rise further and ultimately clip through a part of the ground above sending him straight down into the abyss; causing his death.

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

The demon can trigger the mimic itself with its flame breath. Bait the attack over to where the mimic is at, and you can safely stay up top while the mimic rushes down to engage the demon. Mopping up the survivor is easy after that.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

I did consume a lot of my consumable souls once I got back to Firelink, but I didn't consume anything that was Golden like the other boss souls. There is an option to make the Demon Axe, but I don't have the soul. Is it possible for someone to drop it or the Soul for me?

Beat the fire demon super easy. DO NOT DROP OFF THE ROOF. If you stand close enough to the edge, the fire demon will show interest in you and the lovable onion man will jump down and initiate the fight. Then you can slash the demon in the face when he's close to the platform and retreat to safety when necessary. He can still hit you up there but he never jumped up. Easy 5000 souls (and quick). Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

                                                                                        • Frostbite seems rather effective against these guys, perhaps to no one's surprise. I used an unbuffed Irithyll Straight Sword against Siegward's Demon, and the demon did almost nothing the entire fight.
