Greirat's Ashes is an Ash in Dark Souls 3.

Greirat's Ashes Usage
Greirat's item variety will alter when he is allowed to scavenge certain areas, and his ashes will reflect this based on the time he is killed.
- Unlocks Bloodred Moss Clump, Throwing Knife, Rope Firebomb, Bandit’s Knife, Longsword, Bastard Sword, Mace, Spear, Light Crossbow, Buckler, Elkhorn Round Shield, Round Shield, Kite Shield, Hard Leather Armor Set, Thief Mask, Fire Arrow and Standard Bolt from the Shrine Handmaid if obtained before any of his pillage missions are completed, along with the items unlocked from further completed pillage missions.
Greirat's Ashes Locations
Obtained following Greirat's death either from the player's hand or as a result of his questline.
- If he dies on the Irythill mission (if not saved by Siegward), his ashes will be in the flooded cave by the long-haired centipede monsters in Irythill of the Boreal Valley just before the kitchen area. (Video)(Video)
- If sent out a third time, ashes can be found on a Grand Archives rooftop; between the first and second Gargoyle encounters, look down for a rooftop with a group of Corvian worshippers. Drop down and from there, in one direction is a Hollow Gem and a Titanite Chunk, while in the other is a short jump to Greirat's corpse and a treasure of 3 Titanite Scales.()
Notes
- If he dies on the Irythill mission, the new items he would have had for sale(uppon success) will be available from the Shrine Handmaid(After giving her his ashes). You will however, be permenantly unable to recieve the items obtained from the Lothric Castle mission.

I thought I did everything right, except I'm a complete ****ing dumbass and talked to siegward in the kitchen BEFORE sending out Greirat, so he died... I hate how annoying these questlines are to do.

Do not send him out after killing rotted greatwood but before crystal sage.
Unless you have 600 throwing knives, then go for it. But damn doing that fight when you ran out of them was stressful for me

What would happen if you don't have any of Loretta's bones? I can't find any in where they are supposed to be.

Wow, i never knew his ashes will be found there in Irythill since i actually never found his corpse in my 3 game cycles...
Poor guy must have been terrified of these monstrosities, he didn't deserve this...

Didn't realize Patches needed Siegward's armor/Siegward needed to stay at the kitchen when I sent Greirat out (I knew he might die, but the guide I read didn't mention that those requirements, and only mentioned that if you save Siegward from the well he will save him smh). I went to practice some weapons on the centipedes and found Greirat's ashes and got hella sad.
At least now I know what to do next playthrough.

His wuestline must be bugged, he died on the boreal valley in both of my recent cycles. I followed both patches' and siegward's events thoroughly and carefully, they were both available for rescue in both cycles, and greirat still died. More frustrating than most bosses ngl

If you want those exploding and splinttering bolts NEVER EVER do Boreal Dancer early. It messes so hard with the Siegward/Greirat/Patches questline. First: Siegward won't even spawn in the well, no matter what progression you have in the Cathedral. Second: Patches won't have Siegwards armor and NEITHER will offer to save Greirat.
Christ, why is the quest design so fickle in Fromsoft games

Be sure to get to patches early to ensure greirat lives; to be safe I make sure patchers is doing his squat, reload the area, then send him. Sometimes if you get patches late in the play through into firelink, give siegward his armor, THEN send greirat He might still end up dead.

My friend dies trying to help me - I turn in his ashes to the handmaid so his efforts don't go to waste - she makes fun of me and jokes about me killing him
I saved Siegward from the well, met him in the kitchen and defeated Pontiff, I then sent Greirat to scavenge Irythill, where he died. Do you have to send Greirat to Irythill before talking with Siegward or did I mess something up?

The wiki is wrong, Patches saves Greirat, not Seigward, Patches needs Siegward's armor in his inventory though

SAVED GREIRAT?
I killed all bosses EXCEPT Old Demon King, Stray Demon, Midir, Gael, Soul of Cinder, and Lothric Brothers.
I cleared out all enemies at Grand Archives.
And ONLY THEN did I sent Greirat on 3rd outing to Lothric Castle. Also, I killed Patches at the same time I sent Greirat on 3rd outing.
I couldn’t find his ashes at a Grand Archives drop down spot by the gargoyles.
So I killed the rest of the bosses and returned to not find his ashes each time....
If he is dead where is his ashes. Cuz he isn’t in the shrine either.

I sent greirat out to lothric then went over to where his corpse is normally but his ashes weren't there. Was this a bug? If so please help me figure this out.

When I first sent Greirat to Lothric Castle, I thought he would come back again as usual. When I was exploring places in the Grand Archives I didn't explore earlier and found his corpse, I got legit sad ;-;

Just got to his cell (very first encounter) just to find him dead already. Got the cell key next, opened it and got his ashes and the BTSR. Any idea if this is a known bug?

I couldn't make the jump on the rooftops but using spook let me drop down from the other side. (Without spook it was a fatal drop.)

I completed all bosses except for the Demon King in smouldering lake and Greirat wouldn't return to firelink nor could I find his ashes in the two locations. Killed Demon King and he returned so I'm guessing that's the trigger!

I sent him to plunder and skipped through the reading. Not knowing we're to look first I checked both places and his ashes weren't there. He's not in the shrine either. Does anyone know why?

After Greirat dies, and his ashes find their rest in Firelink Shrine, the Shrine Handmaid starts to sell Splintering and Exploding bolts. Well, after you gave her those ashes. The interesting part is: both of those bolts are made by the craftsman Edmond - a figure yet to be uncovered. Was Greirat a pseudo-name of Edmond, a long-forgotten craftsman? Or did Edmond kill Greirat at his last attempt to pillage the place of no return? There is a bit of mystery out there. Fromsoft really loves to tease the public.

I didn't kill him , I did his questline , and after he died at the boreal valley.And I cant found his ashes at the long hairs before the kitchen , at the boreal valley , and at the Grand Archives on the rooftops. What can I do ?

Killing Greirat early will not unlock all his wares when turning in his ashes to the handmaiden, it will only unlock his early wares. DO NOT KILL HIM.

I was going through my Bow Only run and killed Greirat. I turned in his ashed to the Handmaiden but it did not unlock the Large Arrows for purchase. Anyone know if the game just doesn't unlock them until a certain point in the story? Or are they only unlocked once he returns from pillaging, meaning I just doomed myself and cannot buy large arrows this run?

I just reached his dying spot in Lothric Castle and his ashes are not there. I'm pretty sure I did everything right. I completed Siegward's quest and sent Greirat out for the third time, but his ashes aren't there. Did I miss something? (NG+)

After giving the Handmaiden his ashes after he died on his 3rd outing, she had 6 embers and unlimited lightning urns, exploding bolts, and splintering bolts, in addition to all of his previous stock.
If I buy the Titanite materials before I send him out on his last pillage before he inevitably dies, will it be restocked when I turn his ashes in to the maiden? If not, am I better off not sending him to his death? Because he's my favorite merchant, I really like him as a character.

If you give the shrinemaiden his ashes, you will gain access to all the things Greirat sold before + maybe some more things. If you fail to buy the upgrade materials he sells after irithyll, you can give the maiden his ashes and you'll be able to buy them then.

If you find his ashes after sending him to lothric castle it unlocks splintering bolt, exploding bolt, and lightning urns for unlimited purchase at the shrinehand maid.

If greirat ashes are obtain from irithyll it also unlocks titanite scale and twinkling titanite at shrine maiden. I killed pointiff sullyvahn and yhorm at this point.

Leather armour is not sold by Greirat at all. Killing him does not get the maiden to allow you to purchase them either.

I didnt finish his story line.so his ashes found in the sewer next to Distant Manor Bonfire. his story is really sad actually

It is possible that these unlock different things depending on where he dies. I believe I unlocked several Irithyll-related weapons after finding them in the sewers there, the same may be true of Lothric castle and wherever else he can die.
Where is his body to find the ashes? He never came back so I assume he died
Perhaps it’s already been mentioned but the zweihander is also available from the shrine handmaid if you give her the short king’s ashes
