Morne's Great Hammer is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

Greathammer bestowed upon Carim Knights who demonstrate outstanding strength and unwavering faith. Decorated by a ward of Carim Temple, and imbued with the twisted rage of Apostle Morne.

Skill: Morne's Rage
Stick weapon into earth and emit a powerful shockwave. Also, similar to Perseverance, temporarily boosts poise and reduces damage received.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
  • Upgraded with Twinkling Titanite.
  • Morne's Great Hammer has a weapon range of 43.466xl on the 1h R1, and 37.9733xl on the 2h R1.
  • Being a weapon with some of the highest stat requirements, this is one of the far less viable weapons on a SL 120 character.
  • Visually similar to Bramd from Demon's Souls, and has the same stat requirements as the Grant from Dark Souls 1.
  • At +5 with 50 STR/40 FTH, this weapon has 631 AR.
  • Added Faith scaling and had Strength scaling altered in Regulation 1.09 patch, making it a good STR/FTH weapon. Before then, it only had a B scaling in Strength at +5.
  • This Great Hammer, along with Smough's Great Hammer  and Ledo's Great Hammer, have a higher poise health value than the other Great Hammers, with 32.9 poise health instead of the usual 30.8. This means you can have much less poise and still be able to tank through the other Ultras.

Location/Where to Find

  • Dropped by Eygon of Carim if killed.
  • Looted from Eygon of Carim's corpse late-game in the old cell of Irina of Carim.

If you haven't killed him then summon him for the dragonslayer armor fight and then his corpse will appear in Irinas cell which is closest to the road of sacrifices bonfire.

The perseverance effect is very useful in PvP for when you know you're going to get backstabbed in 0.1 seconds and want to greatly reduce the incoming damage.

        • Anonymous

Despite the weapon art giving you the Perseverance effect, it's not really a replacement for the classic Perseverance weapon art, since it takes so much stamina to cast that you won't really be able to follow it up with much.

woah its like that bigass hammer from outward! they totally did it first and not the other way around! dont mind that outward came like 3 years after ds3

            • Anonymous

If you are going for pure str / faith this can be used actually very early. I'm doing invasions at sl75 and using it no problem

              • Anonymous

I wanted his hammer so bad months ago that I attacked and promptly got slaughtered by him, so now I returned a few months later on the character and remembered I agrod him so decided to hell with it I'll kill him and get his hammer. Would like a nice hammer for my strength build. Get it, so excited. 30 faith requirement....I have 9

I couldn't find this anywhere so I did a little bit of testing with this weapon and a simple gem offhand shield (FP regen).

While the FP cost of the special attack is 50, you can actually activate it at a lot less. Seems to be 25 FP so exactly half.
So you can activate this weapon art twice at a lot less than 100 FP, and 3 times at 125 it seems.
Farron ring brings the cost down to 38, and the minimum amount of FP you need to activate becomes 19, meaning 3 uses at 95 FP.

The last time I fought the crystal sage with Morne as a summon he finished the sage off with the weapon art. Not a hard boss fight but was actually cool to see him perform it and land successfully.

Time to bust out the Eygon of Carim cosplay run as my last strength faith playthrough before Elden Ring. Ooooohhhh... Elden Ring.... so close, yet so far.

F boring unoriginal meta builds, this thing is very good. It has longer reach than you'd think, fantastic WA, fth scaling means you can add some regen spells on it and you are suddenly hard to kill. Just dont spam r1s cause everyone will dodge it, try mix things up with backstep r1, delayed running r1, jumping r2, with WA the closer you are to the opponent the better, play not locked on.

Morne cosplay: Cleric starting class, level 125. 50 str, 30 fth, 29 endurance and 30 vitality with the vitality boosting rings. Left over ring slot I use for chloranthy/princess in duels and for ringed city ganks I use farron ring. I also use fillianores chime WA, blessed caestus for punches and use the white hair talisman to cast Warmth. Tears would be better but warmth is fun on bridges and ledges. Warmth also let’s me heal co invaders, heal mobs and makes ganks lose IQ. I occasionally bring the shield and fat roll. Its viable in pve and duels against anything that’s not straight sword spam. A beast in pvp, really shines against ganks

Weapon art is quite hard to land, but what most people don't seem to expect is that it has a hitbox before the explosion when you set it down, so you can actually get more than double the damage of a normal attack. had this really funny encounter at sl90 with a broadsword invader while using this. We met in the area by the switch that opens the big gate in Lothric castle and for most of the fight he just crushed me. i couldn't land any hits and he landed a backstab on me to put me around 15% health, however. when i got up, instead of rolling away like any sensible person would, i activated the weapon art, got both hits on the man and deleted his full health in one attack. i was absolutely blown away.

This weapon is meh in pvp cause it can't be buffed and people tend to dodge the WA, but its hilariouslygodlike in pve. Just keep using the WA and laugh as everything gets one tapped and you get poise, you can legit facetank pontiff and make him your *****.

Weapon art is God like. I just got my character to be able to use it two handed with base health and stamina. I think phase two of the abyss watchers went down in only 3 hits of the WA may of been 4.

                                • Anonymous

While it’s not the highest damage greathammer overall it’s got the best WA without a doubt of the greathammer weapons. I use this baby on my ng+6 character and it still holds its own especially against groups of enemies.

                                  • "Being a weapon with some of the highest stat requirements, this is one of the far less viable weapons on a SL 120 character."
Excuse my french but that is bulls hit. Cosplaying Eygon gets tricky on a 120char but just wielding the hammer is not a problem at all.

Guys, guys. It's okay. You totally don't need to meet the 50 STR requirement. Just two hand it and use slightly more stamina than when you two hand it while meeting the STR requirement. Stamina doesn't really matter while using this Greathammer class weapon. While on the subject of stamina, just invest enough to not completely throw your back out. Only swinging two times before being empty is your punishment for using this thing over a straight sword or curved sword. So it's balance. Oh... Uh.... VIT? I just go naked because I'm so good at this game, I never get hit. VIG for the heaping amounts of trading you'll be doing? Um. I don't know, I just used this at low soul levels where my victims go "splat" like a 2016 hypermode DS3 montage video. And when with phantoms to cover my ass, it's so sweet. Smiley Face. Nothing but singing positive good praises for every weapon on here. Good vibes. Good vibes.

                                        pros:

                                        1. very good great hammer design.

                                        2. Wa, although situational, if timed corectlly can one shot players

                                        3. deceiving short recovery after 2hr2, making hyper armor to pop in really fast for the next 2hr1 in a 2hr2-2hr1 combo.

                                        4. very rare weapon in pvp so most people will underestimate it

                                        5. best poise health in the game, higher than regular great hammers, on pair with ledo and smough, basiclly an ultra great hammer. can trade with an ugs with just 24 poise.

                                        cons:

                                        1. high stat requirments, 34 str and 30 faith minimum, 34 str and 40 faith optimal as str sclaling softcaps at 34 str (50 str 1h)

                                        2. moderate damage 591 AR at 34 str, 2h and 30 faith and 612 AR with 40 faith

                                        3. very heavy weapon

                                        4. outside wa, just standart GH moveset

                                        5. cannot be buffed and infused

                                        6. big weapon, will block a good part of your screen so it s better to fight unlocked

others: in terms of efficienty it s not a top tier weapon with average damage, heavy, high requirments and average moveset. With those stat investments can wield other weapons with more damage and better moveset. It has it s perks though, imo those being the looks, the wa and the poise health. Can only recommend it for a str faith build, when enemies are weak to strike damage and resistant to lightning. for pvp it depends a lot of the skill of the wielder and can be very fun to use sometimes, especially the wa. the weapon is good enough to use it the whole NG 7 walkthrough with no issues.

                                        • Anonymous

The WA make this weapon a monster, WA hits as hard as a fully charged 2H attack.

But be warned, this weapon is not made for all, if you are that type of players that don't usually use WA and have a low mana pool then use Great mace instead of this as it have little more AR and a low FP cost perseverance.

This weapon WA is the bread and butter of this weapon so you need a good mana pool, just invest 40/40 str/fth, a little invest in life, stamina and carry weight to use a decent armor (if you want) and invest in your mana pool.

If perseverance is OP and gamebreaking, imagine a perseverance with a big Deus Vult explosion included.

I never used hammers before but I like to play as a paladin and I'm currently using this to learn how to play with hammers. Let me tell you that I love this thing and it's weapon art. At 60 Strengt and 60 Faith im blasting through enemies with the Poise this thing gives you, even at NG+8 this deals a significant amount of damage and the weapon art is the perfect counter for the stupid stunlock rats you encounter now and then. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it happened to me and others that we got cornered and each stupid rat slapped us until we died because of no poise. But with this weapon art I can say Holy Halleluja and goodbye!

Notes and tips is incorrect. When one-handed with 50 str / 40 fth, it has 611 AR. Only when two-handed with 50 str / 40 fth does it have 631 AR.

                                                • Anonymous

They should mention that 50/40 AR is while onehanding. I don't really like it's onehandet r1, so stop at 37

                                                  • Anonymous

A fun weapon, but demands a LOT of dedication to just weild, never mind scale with. 6/10 I'll stick to Vordt's personally.

                                                    • Anonymous

I love this weapon but I gotta say the devs were pretty stoned when balancing the stat requirements and the damage output and scaling of this thing. It's outclassed in so many ways by so many weapons it's kinda sad. Most important thing is how much fun you have with the weapon you use though, so I give this baby a spin from time to time.

                                                      • Anonymous

Bad vs experienced players in pvp, great vs casuals, absolute beast and destroyer in PvE. Remember that annoying Ringed Knight who gave you trouble rolling through his attacks? Come to his face and cast WA two times - he ded.

                                                        • Anonymous

It honestly needs more damage. Don't get me wrong, it's usable, i just don't think it hits enough for 50 str/30 fth reqs.

                                                          • Anonymous

Much like Grant in DS1 you really only 2 hand it since 2handing adds 1.5x to your STR stat so aside from 30 FTH requirement the minimum STR requirement is 34 and with the knights ring you need a max STR stat investment of 29 for 2 handing.

                                                            • Anonymous

If you think you can kill him him right away and start using it right away to kill all the bosses, then you need to think again. Getting the stats high enough to use it, plus enough vitality, endurance and vigor to carry/use the armor and weapon and have some health, will take a long time. Not to mention that the armor set will cost you 23k too.

                                                              • Anonymous

It is not recommended to invest more than the required stats because they are pretty high and you'll be left with very little points for 120-125.

                                                                • Anonymous

I see several comments complaining about this weapon. People I have two words for you: Git Gud. I've been using this weapon a lot recently and found the best way to make use of its weapon is to trade. Depending on your stats for your build this thing has the potential to one shot someone caught at point blank range with the WA. I've dealt nearly 1k damage to someone before when they were down by about 1/3 health which killed them instantly. I was running 75 Faith 50 Strength at the time

                                                                  • Anonymous

This is a pretty good weapon, though the FP cost requires a faith/str caster setup (I'm doing alright around 35 fp, mileage may vary to taste). This weapon art makes the Farron Ring worth it (32 vs 50). Run this with a talisman in the offhand for buffs and healing (since you won't be able to hold much else unless you go heavy in vitality or use Havel's ring). Now for the fun stats:

Matches Smough's Greathammer (668 AR) at 66 str (2h) and 60 faith. At 66/99, it reaches 684 AR.

Weapon art fires off perseverance instantly after pulling the trigger as the animation begins, guaranteeing that if you can start the art, it will finish. Due to animation length, you won't get much benefit from perseverance (inability to get staggered) once you can move again, so be wary of people rushing at the end of the animation. You should get perseverance's falloff absorption boost for ~.5 seconds once you can move again.

Weapon art damage scales with faith AND weapon upgrade. Upgrade level affects WA damage the most, faith damage scales (marginally) better at higher upgrade levels. Also, seems? to softcap around 60 faith:

                                                                    Mourn +4 @ 30 faith: WA = 894 dmg
                                                                    Mourn +4 @ 60 faith: WA = 948 dmg

                                                                    Mourn +5 @ 30 faith: WA = 1038 dmg
                                                                    Mourn +5 @ 60 faith: WA = 1098 dmg

I tried a +5 @ 99 faith and it was around 1120. All tests were run on NG @ Anor Londo. Baited knights to charge and fired off WA as I got hit (point blank hits). When testing the +4 one didn't lightning charge and got a shield up. They were still flattened, but only took about 630 damage. Don't know how (or if it's possible) to edit these, so posting here. If someone knows how to or can incorporate some of this into the main page, please do so! Thanks, -Gamma Lead

                                                                      • I tried to indirectly kill this guy by leading one of those pomegranate bowl guys to attack him. It backfired when he aggroed onto me and i got my ass handed to me with a split second to realise what I had done.

Moral of the story: I am a manipulative bastard.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Since they finally fixed it, here's an explanation for people who don't get the joke: morne's greathammer was listed in the "bosses" category on this wiki for a while now. They only changed it about a month ago.
Granted, it still has its fair share of problems, what with there being no iudex gundyr or slave knight gael, and yet the stray demon is listed as a boss even though at most it only drops a unique soul. But it's definetely better than before.

                                                                            • Anonymous

why are people saying Eygon of Carim is hard to kill? i mopped the floor with him though then again i was useing a Hollowslayer Greatsword.

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

Anyone else remember the good old days when the 1 FP exploit still worked to use a weapon art and with a simple infused offhand you could spam this thing like no tomorrow...good times.....
                                                                                  -AE

                                                                                  • Anonymous

with farron ring equipped you only need 20 fp minimum to cast so with a simple infused off hand you can cast for free every 60 seconds which doesnt sound like much but its pretty good for invades and co op where you have much less estus.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                        • Anonymous

To everyone saying "This isn't a boss": The people saying this is the hardest boss are correct. Not because it itself is a boss, but because anyone you face in PvP that has it is harder than any boss in the game. Sure, players are usually harder than bosses anyways but Morne's malicious will and unadulterated desire to kill instills within the wielder a power unseen from other players.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

No matter what i take, Greatsword, Curved Swords, Standard Swords.

This thing has poise and stagger on level 9999999999 you cant do anything against it to counter it.
Cant parry, cant stagger, nothing. But it staggers you for *****ing minutes. Great weapon.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

I did a bit of testing since I can't find this info ANYWHERE. If you only dual-wield this weapon you can use it with the minimum stats of: 34 STR 30 Faith
so absolute lowest lvl you can be before you can use this based on class IS: S=Start lvl, N=lvls needed to get to E, E=End lvl (can use wep)
                                                                                              Knight: S9+N45=E54 Mercenary: S8+N46=E54 Warrior: S7+N49=E56 Herald: S9+N43=E48 Thief: S5+N47=E52
                                                                                              Assassin: S10+N45=E55 Sorcerer: S6+N50=E56 Pyromancer: S8+N40=E48 Cleric: S7+N36=E43 Deprived: S1+N44=E45
So as kinda expected if you want to use this weapon ASAP Cleric is the best choice and Sorcerer is the worst.
                                                                                              Hope this helped someone!

                                                                                              • I don't understand why people complain about this not being as viable as Dark Sword or Black Knight Greataxe etc. at the 120 meta level.

My Eygon cosplay build is SL 174 and I have never had this much PvP action in my life.

All the mages and Bloodshades are in my summoning range and I keep on getting invaded time after time, I invade people all the time and being summoned as Blade of the Darkmoon at 174 is pretty frequent.

So, consider making higher sl builds for this weapon? The SL 120 meta builds are all pretty much the same anyways, so a bit of change would be nice every now and then.

                                                                                                • Anonymous
