Everybody listen to me, rebirth is an absolute waste of time, let me explain, it makes ONE stat really high, but the downside is it makes the rest of stats how they were at the start of the game. I learned this the hard way and I'm grinding more than normal. Don't do rebirth you'll regret it.

I don't know if they patched this, but after more than 30 minutes I got nothing but Cracked Red Eye Orbs from the Darkwraiths as well as a lot of Dark Swords and dupes of their armor pieces. I did one quick invasion and got the tongue I needed to respec my character.

Farmed Darkwraith and timed it at 458 Discovery.
Almost 4 Darkwraiths per minute (including the running back to bonfire to reset and the time to pop a Rusted coin)
15 tongues took 33 minutes.
So about 132 Darkwraiths killed for 15 tongues.
11.36 % chance to drop at 458 discovery.
Compared to farming Proof of a Concord Kept this was a breeze.

Do not bother trying to get one legit before vordt, you will be ganked by the host and his three twinking phantoms. Best course of action is to just invade and hide somewhere, and wait for a the host or a blue sentinel to die. It’s boring as **** but I usually get at least 1.

Getting these is a nightmare due to the game notoriously focusing on hosts that already have phantoms.

Don't know why they made it such a focus when they already implemented so many other ways to out Invaders at a disadvantage.

"One is obtained each time the player invades and defeats the host of a world while either covenantless or as a member of Rosaria's Fingers." It's 2019 and this is still wrong. You always get a tongue after a succesful invasion if you haven't equipped a covenant that has a different orb invasion reward, it's not limited to Rosaria or no-covenant.

If you're trying to get these at a high level, go to Earthen Peak Ruins bonfire in DLC2 and invade. Summons are slow past SL200, but I was still getting one every 5-10 minutes. I only had to fight twice on my way to 30 tongues. Every other time the host died before I could get to them.

I think I may have stumbled on a way to farm these without harvesting Darkwraiths all day. It's similar to farming vertebra shackles with a friend, but with a twist.

The person who wants Pale Tongues needs to equip the Way of Blue covenant.

That's the major difference. From there everything's the same: once WoB is equipped, drop your red sign for a friend to summon you as a dark spirit, kill your friend. A Pale Tongue will drop.

I haven't tested with the allied covenants (Blue Sentinels and Blade of the Darkmoon)--WoB has worked every time.

After having earned the Obscuring Ring once in NG, I attempted to earn a second copy in NG+; however, upon delivering to Rosaria the required 10 Pale Tongues, I did NOT receive a second Obscuring Ring. Is it impossible to earn more than one Obscuring Ring per character? I mean, legitimately--not through trade with other players. Thanks!

A pain to get these on Xbox, basically the only way to get them is to farm darkwraiths unless you enjoy getting ganked every time you try to invade. The only times I've been in non-gank PvP situations is the few times I've been summoned near the Pontiff bonfire through soapstone and a couple of times I've been invaded myself. I personally wish I'd get invaded a lot more, as it'd give me more chance to get PvP experience outside of getting either ganked or having no hope in dueling someone who already has plenty of PvP experience.

Easiest way to get these is having a friend use your red sign soap stone (while a finger of rosaria) and killing them for the tongue.

Easy way to farm those atm in the new dlc: Use your Red Eye Orb at the "Earthen Peak Ruins" bonfire, after you're summoned just wait a few seconds and watch how the host gets rekt by the lasers, lel.

These seem to drop in between 3 and 4 times more frequently than proofs of a concord kept.
So still pretty rare. (I recommend you farm these in pvp while you are still low lvl).

The drop rates are pretty damn good compared to other covenant items! With 364 item discovery I once got 4 out of 4 DWs to drop it in a row, I know its just luck, but I got 30 tongues before I got 30 swordgrasses, and there are 2 DWs and 9 ghrus, so the drop rate is very good indeed.

I started from 0 souls and ended up getting 9 of the pale tongue and 50k souls, only equipped crystal sages rapier. I think the drop rate is not too bad considering; comparing to farm the blue sentinels covenant item from sliver knight in anor londo: getting 8 and 700k souls with full item discovery boost ring, armour and weapon.

Just got a pale tongue from killing my summoner after being summoned by red sign, while i was in the darkmoon knights. Seems like a horrible contradiction lore wise to get one seeing as how rosaria's fingers are their sworn enemies.

I found it fairly pathetic I could get these faster from farming the dark wraiths rather than actually invading players.Why? oh let's see. Hosts with terrible connections (and the peer to peer multiplayer favors host, meaning even if it looks like you hit, you didn't hit because netcode yay), people cheating with invulnerability cheats, people pulling the plug wasting my time, people running away and summoning phantoms, the inability for other Rosaria members to even help kill the host without me hitting them or them hitting me and the host having access to 2x as many estus. At least with the mound makers I could just kill phantoms all day.

the dark wraiths outside of the Farron keep perimeter have a chance to drop these. if you collect 5 tounges you can respec up to five times per character. you can also change your gender and appearance 5 times through the same npc in the cathedral
