Parrying Dagger is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.



Dagger with a greatly curved guard.

A dagger made especially for parrying which is usually equipped in one's left hand in place of a shield.

Skill: Parry
Repel an attack at the right time to follow up with a critical hit. Works while equipped in either hand.

 

Notes and Tips:

  • Reinforcement Material: Titanite
  • Infusable: Yes
  • Buffable: Yes
  • On parry, this weapon has 12 startup frames, 8 active frames and 30 recovery frames at 60 FPS, on 30 FPS divide by 2.
    • This weapon has above average startup and average active frames, which makes it a bad parrying tool overall.
  • All weapons have motion values assigned to each attack, which are modifiers to AR that are associated with the attack being used.
    • The Parrying Dagger has a motion value of 360 on backstab, 432 on riposte, and 72+420 on Hornet Ring riposte. The motion value of a backstab with a dagger does not change with Hornet Ring.
    • This means that aside from a difference in AR, no infusion is strictly better for ripostes, as all infusions will get the same motion value, with the only difference being AR. Use whatever infusion will net the most damage for the best results.
    • Note that Dark damage does not benefit from Hornet Ring in PvP.

 

  • Parrying Dagger has an attack range of 22.7582xl on the 1h R1 and 26.0077xl on the 2h R1
  • As this weapon is not typically used for dealing damage, its recommended to infuse it with a Blessed Gem or Simple Gem to gain passive HP or FP regen. (Upgrading the weapon will cause you to regen more frequently)

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X". 
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped. 
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

          I've been engaging in a Rapier and Parrying Dagger souls series playthrough and learning that this dagger can't slash in your offhand has cemented Dark Souls 3 as the worst installment of the franchise. I'm being hyperbolic, It's still the phenomenal game I remember, but how did they mess this up when it was working perfectly in past titles? There are daggers in the game that attack when equipped in the offhand, so this dagger just ends up being the worst shield in the game. I hope a mod exists that fixes this glaring oversight.

            I think instead of a slash attack in the off-hand, this should have had a dual function, to allow a parry with an L1, and a weapon art with an L2.
            This would have made it an excellent and adaptable tool for a lot of fighting styles compared to the other parrying tools, or off-hand parrying weapons, at a cost of extra attack options.

            Perhaps, if someone did one-hand this in their right hand, then making it function like a mail-breaker/rapier in moveset would have been beneficial, and only parrying when used with a weapon-art shield.

              Hello DS3 player, I am come to you for a little favour, and I will carry this message to everywhere in DS3 community.
              There is a glitch that allows you to summon white sign mad phantom in Gael’s Arena (Credit to Dashingsaint), if you keep Shira alived while she invade you (you can escape her simply sprint out her aggro range), you won’t trigger gael boss cutscene, and then you could put down you purple summon white sign or summon other white purple.
              Thus, a new fight club is founded, an arena in a long lost dessert under the sunset sky which sprinkle with fainted galaxy.
              If you’re watching this, kindly please help me share this and invite any ds3 enthusiast you known to this new fight club, your little effort would be much appreciated.

                To this day i'm absolutely baffled why they made it block when left-handed. That is the most retarded thing in this game, hands down.. A buckler has better defensive properties than this thing. So why?! Rapiers can stab. Curved swords can slash. This thing should too. But no, it blocks. Jesus Christ.

                That being said, it makes for an interesting weapon to use with WA-allowing shields.

                        I am absolutely offended by how horribly crappy the Parry Dagger is in DS3. I can't even completely comprehend how much it sucks. This thing's just sheer garbage.

                        Allow me to explain: the start up frames are really delayed. It's impossible to parry any quick, fast attack unless you have premonition. As a result, the extended parry frames literally can't be more useless. On top of that, the parry dagger blocks with L1 - see, this wouldn't be an issue if it didn't have 15-18 stability and a maximum of 30/20/15/15/20 damage absorption. Attempting to block anything more than throwing daggers is just cause for being instantly guardbroken.

                        To reiterate, the parry dagger is absolute ****. Better off with barehands, caestus, or shield.

                            Unfortunately they completely ****ed the parrying dagger by having its second action be a BLOCK and not an off-hand attack. Seriously, you could both parry AND attack with this dagger in the offhand, why not in this game?

                            Sure, lemme just block with my 30 physical absorption and 20 stability - literally they removed the DAGGER option out of this parry tool. A shame.

                              I think it could be interesting if the parrying dagger was specifically the sword breaker variety of parrying dagger, and able to temporarily disarm the opponent or something along those lines. Sword breakers don't literally break swords, but if they were willing to suspend disbelief with the weapon it could also reduce the attacking weapon's durability by a huge amount and actually make weapon durability a mechanic that makes sense.

                                    I will never understand why the l1 is a block and not an attack. If I wanted a parrying tool that could block, I'd just pick a shield.

                                      Great item to infuse. As it weights only 1, and there is only a single caestus (0.5) in the game, as a Sorcerer (no faith leveling), infuse it with Blessed Gem and take it out only when you need to heal up a bit. Sometimes you have only a little heath lost so you don't want to use the Estus, and this item will be exactly what you need. Especially if you wear Lloyd's Sword Ring.

                                          Guys I think you are missing a thing. Why do you want to take this thing as a left hand weapon? Because it parries? But you have Shields with a better parry or off-hand weapons that can also parry but alos poke such as caestus, rapier. The parrying dagger has one specifity : this is the only tool with the farron sword able to parry while in the right hand! Go for that, it will surprise your opponent, notably if you have a weapon skill shield.

                                            What bothers me the most about this weapon is not the delayed parry frames, but like in the other dark souls games, the r1 in the left hand is a block. who the hell would block with this? why not give it an attack in the left hand? you're already choosing to forgo a shield by using this... am I the only one that thinks this?

                                              i might one day make a chaos parrying dagger only build. i tried it once, on sl 802 it can do up to 2000 dmg on a critical against the rapier guy in archddragon peak

                                                  Many people seem to think all but one parrying item is useless, but everyone has one they can parry with without much practice. This dagger has extended parry frames like the shields, but the timing is very different. If the shields seem off in their frames to you, this dagger may be a better choice.

                                                      As you can see, the parrying dagger is best used when parrying attack early.

                                                          Use the shield Stone Parma which has Weapon Art (WA) is Weapon Skill. Equip the shield to your left hand and the Parrying Dagger to your right hand. At the result, when you perfrom WA, it will be a Parry.
                                                          If you forgot to use WA for the incoming attack, you might be safe because it blocks 100% damage. Hornet Ring is effective.
                                                          This style i recommend for players who are learning how to parry and players who want to fool other players.

                                                            Both have the same number of parry frames but the dagger's frames are early while the shield is late. It means you can wait until the last second with the dagger. A shield is better for scrubs like me that keep parrying too early.

                                                                    i dont get why you think so i miss parries often with shields and i dont use shields to block cause i prefer to roll but with this i hit the parry almost every single time unless its something that cant be parried such as the two handed yhorms but i forget about that sometimes lol

                                                                          Not sure if it means anything, but when parrying in right hand/2handed, it has the loud critical woosh noise when doing the parry animation. It doesn't when left handed.

You can't even attack with it in your left-hand. This thing is worthless, only the truly masochistic would dare stick with it despite how far it's fallen.

                                                                                  I am expert at parrying and the bucker or target shield is far superior to the parry dagger. If you want to paary, try the mentioned small shields for the best results :)

                                                                                    Unlike in previous installments, the parrying dagger no longer has a slash in the left hand, it is replaced with a block, thereby rendering the parrying dagger effectively useless in comparison to bucklers and target shields.
