Perseverance is a Skill in Dark Souls 3.

Weapons That Have The Perseverance Skill

Notes & Information

  • Perseverance grants infinite Poise Health for 4 seconds. It additionally grants 45% increased absorptions for 2 seconds, and 15% increased absorptions for 1 second afterwards. The extra poise health allows you to poise through most, if not every attack in the game.
    • Perseverance on Great Hammers grants infinite poise for 6 seconds. It grants 45% increased absorptions for 4 seconds, and 15% increased absorptions for 1 second afterwards. It also produces a small shockwave that staggers nearby enemies. However, the animation is noticeably slower, costs the most FP, and uses stamina.
  • Perseverance resets your poise health to 100%, restoring your trade potential even after the buff runs out. Perseverance on the Caestus is the cheapest way to do this.
  • Best used to guarantee that you come out on top poise-wise in an exchange of blows. It can also be used to escape deadly combos or provide poise while using consumables.
  • Costs 7 FP on Fists, 9 FP on Hammers, 10 FP on Greatswords, 11 FP on Halberds, and 12 FP on Great Hammers.
  • If the player uses Perseverance again while they still have the 45% absorption boost it will not reset the buff or further increase damage absorption. However, if the player uses perseverance again while the absorption boost is 15% it will reset the buff and for a short period (the one second the 15% lasts) stack both absorption boost.
  • Was previously a Miracle in Dark Souls 2.
  • Weaker and lighter weapons like the Fists and Daggers will bounce of the user if Perseverance is at it's full strength.

I haven't played much DS3 since 2017 but I slept on this skill for 3 runs
Won't make that mistake ever again

      • I love the skill really, is very good and useful in PvE and a "test your intelligence" button in PvP (you try to trade with it - you fail). However, it is NOT the panacaea and trying to trade with some bosses and enemies WILL get you killed nevertheless, so yeah a very nice tool for casuls and skilled players alike

Im both glad and dont like this ability. Its absolute melter of r1 spam noobs, on launch i used BKS and just trade hits you never lose, on othe other hand its too op.

It says it adds absorption for 5 ( or 4 for smaller weaps) seconds, but that's not true. The full absorption only lasts for about 1.5 secs; then it lowers quickly for another sec or so. The poise might last for that long but the absorption doesn't ( use BKS weapon art and check your stats , you can see it going down quite quickly ) .

Amazing wa for multiple reasons... Love that it's on my parry tool... The best aspect for me is it enables some exciting and different pyro combos.. but rly I use the wa for more than any of my sub weps... I think all builds should have it

              • Anonymous

additionally and it sucks that it's not mentioned here, perseverance makes "small" weapons like daggers, rapiers and fists to bounce off of you while it's active, so it's amazing for that. furthermore! you can break out of some true combos if you react with perserverance through it. for example weapons with spin sweep/spin bash that do r1 > l2 > r1, you can perseverance right at the l2, and punish the final r1 with your own combo. pretty brutal stuff

Arguably one of, if not the strongest weapon arts. Sure, it won't directly deal damage, but is so versatile. It makes you tankier, and of course, you get near unbreakable poise. You can use this to crush your enemies without worrying about them having the chance to even raise a finger, heal, or make a quick getaway without being staggered.

                  • I love this WA! but I still have some questions. What happens if you use Perseverance when you don't have enough FP? Will that affect the duration and effectiveness of the WA? How much impact will that have on the buff? Does the WA overwrites other buffs? Do you cancel the buff if you swap weapons?

                    • Anonymous

Full Cathedral Set + Perseverance, and the Black Knights in Untended Graves still stagger me with their 2nd attack. What is this heresy?!

                      • Anonymous

For anyone struggling against weapons with this, there are three options: Either keep your distance and only swing once per opportunity so that they cannot punish (will be a little more difficult with slower weapons), predict them using the weapon art while at close range and quickly run around for a backstab, or predict an R1 after the weapon art and parry it (unless its an unparryable attack).

                        • After nearly a year and two dlcs, I think it's generally agreed upon that this is the best WA in the game.

I mean, you basically become a Dark Souls 1 character for a few seconds. Combine that with the fact most of the weapons with this WA skill benefit from high STR...which also grants higher defense bonuses per level, and further combine that with sturdy to heavier armor and yeah...in a game that's as trade-centric as this game is, that's big.

The maces like Morning Star and Mace, as well as of course the Black Knight Greatsword benefit from this WA particularly well because of their great damage and solid movesets to capitalize on; but it's just a damn good option for anything that has it. It's good for PvE, and so much of the current PvP is about trades and blugeoning through crap that it particularly stands out right now.

Shouldn't this last longer? By the time the animation is over (literally) the defense boost has already fallen greatly.

                            • Anonymous

This is just another reason why greathammers are literally the best weapon class in the game, at least in PVE (but in PVP too, if you can parry). They hit like a TRUCK, stagger/poise/guard-break even freaking Cathedral Knights and generally make the game jokingly easy. Try this WA with Vordt's hammer on the Abyss Watchers, it makes the fight winnable by a complete newbie. Great skill, borderline OP, even this short-lasted.

I tried this buff with different shields, and it seems if you equip yhorm's greatshield the buff stays on ( you can 2h the sword and still get the buff ). I tried with some other greatshields and the buff didn't stay on as i did with yhorm's

Didn't see it stated here and I'm too dumb to figure out how to edit the page. Many people have probably figured this out by now but for the people who haven't: Perseverance works by increasing damage absorption by 45 for all damage types and grants hyper armor. Does NOT increase poise whatsoever, despite what the description states.

                                  • Anonymous

So I'm not sure if this is already on here, but I've done some testing and it turns out that perseverance essentially 'activates' your hyper-armour meaning your poise takes effect. I originally noticed it because I had 25 poise and was still being staggered by UGS (which deal 28 poise dmg) when I activated the perseverance skill. I then changed a few things around to having 30 poise and I was unstagger-able by anything. So for anyone wandering why you don't actually see your poise increase but you do see your absorption increase, it's because perseverance doesn't increase poise but 'activates' it for a short period. (This is just from what I've tested and observed but I'm 99% sure this is what is happening.

it doesnt seem to have an icon under the health, FP, and endurance meters... is there some general idea on how long it lasts?

                                      • Anonymous

I'm somewhat confused by the description here (also the in-game description). Does reduced damage mean damage you take, or the is damage it deals reduced while active?

                                        • Anonymous

One thing not a lot of people know is that if your opponent hits you during the animation, or if you time it with their swing, their weapon will bounce off of you similar to the way it would with Iron Flesh active. Seems to only deflect if they are 1-handing, but will allow you to armor and take reduced damage from the hit regardless. Very useful.

                                          • Anonymous

Why does this buff last only 1-2 seconds? Is there no way to increase the duration through a specific stat?
