Pontiff's Left Eye

Bewitched ring that Pontiff Sulyvahn bestowed upon his knights.

Recovers HP with successive attacks.

Knights who peer into the black orb are lured into battles of death, transformed into frenzied beasts. No wonder the Pontiff only provides these rings to those dispatched to foreign lands.

Pontiff's Left Eye is a Ring in Dark Souls 3.

Pontiff's Left Eye Effect

  • Recovers 30 HP with successive attacks
  • Weight: 0.9
  • Attacking 2 or more enemies when the effect triggers has a chance to proc a overheal, healing the player massively.
    • This is speculated to be a coding oversight, or a bug, that never got fixed.

Where to Find Pontiff's Left Eye

Notes

  • Will occasionally fully restore HP all at once if you land enough hits in a short timeframe, such as using a fast weapon against a crowd of enemies
  • Heals 30 HP each healing tick.
  • Below is a table listing the amount of hits it takes for a weapon to proc the healing effect in as short as window as possible. Testing notes are below it.

The information in this table requieres further testing. So far, the only 100% accurate data are One Handed Light attacks.

Weapon Class One Handed Light Two Handed Light One Handed Heavy Two Handed Heavy
Fist 8 - 6 -
Fist/Claw Weapons 8 8 6 -
Dagger 8 8 6 6
Straight Sword 6 6 6 6
Curved Sword 6 6 5 5
Thrusting Swords 6 6 6 6
Axes 6 6 6 6
Hammer 6 8 10 12
Katanas 6 6 6 6
Spear & Pikes 6 6 6 6
Halberd 5 5 5 6
Reapers 5 5 5 5
Whips 5 5 5 5
Greatswords 6 6 6 6
Curved Greatswords 3 or 4 (depends on weapon) 3 3 3
Greataxes 4 4 Too Slow Too Slow
Great Hammer 4 4 Too Slow Too Slow
Ultra Greatsword 4 4 Too Slow Too Slow

Testing Notes:

  • Weapon Arts count towards the combo counter.
  • Charged attacks count for more points on the combo counter.
  • Healing effect may proc before actual hit connects from input.
  • Invaders may see healing effect before healing effect actually occurs, or when it never occurs in the first place.
  • Weapons with vastly different movesets from their standard may have a bit different results from their weapon class. For example, the weapon "Halberd" has a partial spear moveset, and has different results from the rest of the Halberd weapon class for the most part.
  • Hits that land just after the enemy dies counts towards the combo counter (tested with Sellsword Twinblades, two handed: two light attacks while target is alive, the third one while the target is dead, completing the combo and healing the player)

Story & Lore

  • The name Sulyvahn means "little dark eye" or "dark-eyed" in Irish.
  • Cut content suggests that Sulyvahn's character was to appear in The Untended Graves.

This ring has very long cool down so it's much easier to proc it than people are saying. It falls off on higher levels due to flat 30hp heal

      • Anonymous

not really worth using if you require 6 hits with a regular straightsword just to proc one heal of 30hp when most enemies die from 1-3 hits in early game

        • Anonymous

Kinda only useful at lower levels in early NG if you're using a dagger, straight sword or the sellsword tb and/or don't have better ring options. Other weapons are too slow to make it very useful and you get better rings not much later in the game. Even just using a life ring is equal to 2 or 3 proccs if your vigor is halfway decent

          • Anonymous

            Step 1: Equip Ring
Step 2: Attune Ironflesh and cast it near a group of enemies
Step 3: Equip Brigand Twindaggers, Slab that a$$
            Step 4: Quickstep to enemies
            Step 5: No Lock-on & L1,L1,L1,L1,L1,L1,L1,L1,L1
            Step 6: PROFIT

            • Anonymous

The attacks required need to be reduced by half and the time required need to be doubled. As for the healing, make it 50.

              • Anonymous

It would be nice to have a table for how many hits for each weapon needs to proc, period. No need for doing it really fast.

I get that this ring can be gotten as early as Undead Settlement, but c'mon man! This is a boss ring. 30 HP gets less and less value the more HP you have. Maybe if it was a fixed percentage or a flat amount like 100 - 150 HP would be better. Especially once you get to mid game.

                  • Anonymous

Trash. Just use Life Ring +3. At 40 Vigor it gives you more than 120 hp, equivalent to proccing Pontiff's LE 4 times which the average fight isnt even long enough to do so let alone being able to maintain the necessary attack chains to even make this ring useful.

                    • Anonymous

this ring is great. only need to proc it 50 times to heal to full. much better than if I needed to proc it a million times, or 2 trillion times. might even need nerfed.

hey guys all the tables here are outdated asf, i'd recommend you to watch limit breaker's video on this ring (can't put direct link here) but look up "The Wolf Sword vs The Pontiff's Left Eye... ᵃ ᵘˢᵉˡᵉˢˢˡʸ ᶜᵒᵐᵖˡᶦᶜᵃᵗᵉᵈ ᵍᵘᶦᵈᵉ" on youtube. tl;dr all weapons need a LOT less attacks, biggest changes going on heavier weapons classes (great hammer 1hr1 12 -> 4, great axe 1hr1 10 -> 4, etc) can someone update the table please?

                        • Anonymous

Doing L1, L1, L1 with the brigand twindaggers is enough to trigger the healing, makes the twindaggers very good for large groups of enemies .

Just watched limit breaker s vid about op healing with this and tried to pull it off with utra greatsword guts on 3 harald knights. You have to stun them first with fully charged r2 and then get the two hits of the weapon art. Boy, pulling that trick off was so badass (i recommend deep protection or power within to regen stamima)

As the wiki says, hitting multiple enemies at once counts towards the combo. A charged 1h r2 with a whip against the deacons of the deep will usually activate this ring every time as well as activating the right eye, carthus beacon, and the old wolf curved sword.

This ring is actually useful. In PvE it will proc often and in PvE, it procs, even when the enemy dodges through your attack. You can regulary heal a lot of HP, especially with the Wolf Curved GS.

For the special move for the crow quills (where you throw multiple quills out), does each quill count as a different hit? If you land all 4 does it count as 4 hits?

                                  • Anonymous

Would love to have the ring, but my gamer instincts screams for huge new weapons, not small new rings. That, and i feel like being able to heal for each successive swing kinda ruins the "be careful" approach to enemies.

Tested Pontiff's Right Eye, Pontiff's Left Eye, Old Wolf Curved Great Sword, and Carthus Beacon with the Oni/Uba, the Grave Warden Twin Swords, and the Crows Talons respectively. All aforementioned weapons were +10 & Hollow infusion. Character is at SL 120 sporting 19 STR, 35 DEX, & 35 LUCK (40 with +10 Hollow infusion) Analysis: Crow's Talons are a hoot with this crazy 5-piece combo, minimal stamina consumption surprisingly decent reach/speed, WA maxes both the Healing stacks and the combo AR multipliers at mach-10. Low damage though, and practically useless without the WA. Grave Warden's Twin Swords are my personal fave, boasting high speed, sweeping combos, the best Healing stack abuse, and the most reliable bleed spam forbearing the Crow's Talon's WA. Better damage than the Crow's Talons, but not by much. Poor Range for curved swords, and NO KICK for busting shields. Instead, you get a backflip, which is cool. Oni/Uba has INSANE DPS with this setup, though easily the slowest and most unreliable combo/Healing stack abuse. Best range with the R2, though this can screw up the combo counter if only the right-handed blade hits a distant enemy on the R1. With the Old Wolf CGS carried in the right hand, and the dual weapons held in the left hand, both the Crow's Talons and Grave Warden Swords get the coveted parry, while the Obi/Uba gets stuck with a terrible block. Personally, I prefer the Grave Warden Twin Swords, courtesy of the ridiculous movepool that they can abuse when paired with the Old Wolf CGS. Add some Carthus Rouge to the mix, and you get to play as the ultimate scum lord.

Combined with the Right Eye, offhanding the Old Wolf Curved Greatsword, and righthanding the Sellsword Twinswords, you can stack healing as well as 45% increased AR.

                                        • Anonymous

Old Wolf Curved Sword offhanded with this and Pontiffs Right Eye equipped and you will enjoy yourself. The curved sword has the effects of both rings. So, it all stacks. And yes, not only will the ring freak the ***** out with healing, but the damage buff can, too. I fought the Deacons and was constantly regenerating health, and then I R1'd with Sellsword Twinswords...and did 751 damage. They were only +4.

how long does the prock last? Like, when i fight a large enemy and hit hit like 5 times with ceastus, then make a roll to dodge and then go on hitting the enemy with 4 additional hits? Does it still stack then? Or do i have to hit him all the time while doing it? Differently asked, when does the prock disappear and start at 0 again?

guys the ring is intended for use against groups. hitting multiple enemies at once makes it proc faster. I used it agains tthe deacons and could just sit in the middle and go ham with the zweihander. Its for hitting multple targets and getting off some heals in the proces.

                                                • Anonymous

ring should either heal for a lot more, or it should prock more easily. a good idea would be for the prock to last several seconds, and in those seconds each hit grants ~30 hp

                                                  • Anonymous

This will not benefit anyone upon on how many times you have to hit something for 30 HP! This will not make more aggressive players, but be known as the MOST worthless ring ever! I would love to see someone tell me other wise. But I love the idea of aggressive players in a Dark souls game, it changes player's fighting tactics, and the way we fight in PVP, it just feels like the maker of this ring fully just half-ass this ring and pushed it out the door. I won't to be an aggressive player and when I saw this ring, I thought I had my chance, but till I tried to use it... if you think that the boss that ring came from was easy, just think on how easier it is to get killed since you put away one of your favorite rings.Idea: 10/10 (Stand behind it all the way through)Ring as it is now: 2/10 (Half-ass ring, you ruined dreams!!!)Having a good laugh by Trolling bloodorne players: 10/10 (I bet there are already videos out there that has done this)

I have proc'd healing with 4 swings of a dagger, have not tested other weapons with ring, suspect whole list needs to be re-calibrated to current version

                                                      • Got full hp bar several times during that bossfight, so its not completely useless, but need alof of targets to hit at the same time. I used a Longsword RB spamming.

                                                        • Deacons of the Deep seems to be a great place to try it out, I got full HP several times by slashing as a madman. Vs 1 its extremely difficult to make it work.

Is there a time limit to the "successive" attacks? If so, how many seconds can you wait between each successful hit?

Rings that will keep you alive: Pontiff's left eye , sun princess ring , ring of favor , ring of evil eye , ring of tiny beings , and estus ring.Rings that generally help out: Havel's ring , Silver serpent ring , Gold serpent ring , Knight's ring , Pontiff's right eye , and those rings that give damage and defense on full health. You can stack any of these rings and it will really help out. I personally stack the ring of favor , sun princess , Left eye , and tiny beings.

Can the ring stack getting the same ring on New Game Plus(+) lets say 4 of them? If so that would be like Bloodborne LOL

                                                                • Anonymous

This, the right eye, wolf ring and chloranthy ring with 40 end and dancer's enchanted swords? With the right armor you could poise tank a hit or two to get the spin2win and full heal.Always gotta watch for that estoc tho

                                                                  • Anonymous

Is the table here meant to show how many hits to get the full heal? Or does it show how to get the 60 hp heal?

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

Does taking damage reset the counter? Does pausing for a moment reset the counter? If so, how long of a pause? The game itself is vague enough.

                                                                        • Anonymous

Can you proc the healing consecutively after it has proced once with prolonged combos or do you have to build combo from zero?

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Hi, a friend and I did the research for the table and HP regen info above. Please let me know if there are any large mistakes and we can discuss testing methodology to see if the results need to be edited. Thank you :)

                                                                                      • Anonymous

It's great when you come across a crowd or an alone enemy. Easily fill up to full hp. Not something you'd keep equipt other wise. I think on a first blind play through it's useful though I'd imagine as the community replays the game it'll become less used. Is it a pvp ring? I'd say no but I could see a duel going down where the opponent staggers you with daggers or some such weapon and fill up on hp. Maybe if you're good at quick equiping.

I've been trying it with sellsword twinblades, and I'm getting health back (about 10 or 20 HP, haven't checked), for every 3 L1 attacks (so technically 6 hits), time between not seeming to be a big factor as I could start one enemy, finish him with 2 hits, move on some for a bit, and get the effect of my first hit of a new enemy. Really helps to save on estus, especially in early game. I also observed that when I managed to hit groups of enemy (swamp slugs for test) I would sometimes get a much larger amount of health back not sure if bug or secondary effect.

Need to hit multiple enemies quickly to get hp back, not jus one. Dunno how long can be between hits. So it's good for swarms or taking out a bunch of mobs one at a time but quickly moving to the next mob.

I tried this ring and it doesn't seem to restore any health. I tried mashing R1 for 4-5 hits on an enemy and it didn't restore a single point. Also tried attacking immediately after taking a hit, but it didn't restore they yellow part of my health bar like Bloodborne's rally system. Either I'm doing something wrong, it's bugged, or the description is very misleading.
