Quelana Pyromancy Tome

A pyromancy tome of Quelaana containing her unique spells. These pyromancies can only be taught by a female master.

Give to a female pyromancy master to learn Quelana's pyromancies.

Quelana, the sole surviving witch of Izalith, once accepted a human pupil, but after the pupil moved on, she never took another.

Quelana Pyromancy Tome Usage

Quelana Pyromancy Tome Locations

  • Found in the Smouldering Lake.
    • From the Old King's Antechamber bonfire, go through the illusionary wall  on the far side of the room that drops down into the hall of fire orbs and pyromancer demons. Follow the far wall left to the end of the room; you should see a corridor with a rat in it.
    • You may follow the rat and drop into a lava pit to pick up two items; Toxic Mist and the White Hair Talisman. Take the stairs up out of the pit.
    • Alternatively, take the first door on your right into a root-infested catacomb with several rats. One of the far walls is illusionary.
  • Note: Lava hurts. Bring fire protection or be ready to drink estus quickly. Mind the lava slimes.

Notes

  • The cloth wrapped around the tome is reminiscent of bandages that may be wrapped around a burn.

Trivia

  • Quelana of Izalith, whom the description refers to, is a pyromancer from Dark Souls 1, who taught the three pyromancies given by this tome.
  • The corpse lies before a spider resembling the Fair Lady from Dark Souls 1. Quelana and the Fair Lady were sisters, both daughters of chaos.
  • Attempting to give the tome to Cornyx grants dialogue, revealing the fate of Quelana.

The directions here are NOT for the Quelana pyromancy tome it is NOT in the lava. The tome is behind an illusory wall in a grey room with roots and two normal rats if you see or hear Basilisks you have gone too far but the Izalith staff is behind another illusory wall that's right behind the chest. You see it up on a ledge where the Basilisks are but it can't be accessed from there.

The alternative is actually the intended way, ignore the first two points to the location because they are absolute bs without lava protection.

I would like to state a couple of things that people seem to not understand. 1: Unless the curled up corpse is Quelana, Quelana is not in the location you find the tome (the giant spider lady is the fair lady from DS1). 2: Quelana is Ceaseless Discharge's sister and faked her own death for unknown reasons (this is at least likely given the number of witches in DS1's opening cutscene). 3: Quelana was not the only one untouched by chaos after the eruption of the chaos flame, meaning the description almost definitely means she is still alive (that, or it's a translation error). I'm sorry if I come across as *****ish here, but these are things I really feel the need to say.

Idk why people think that the body is Quelana and that Quelana is dead. Her tome says that she is “the sole surviving witch of Izalith”. Which to me means that she’s still alive.

            • The corpse of the spider is definitely The Fair Lady. The fact that the White Hair Talisman is found nearby just supports this. "This lock of hair belonged to a deformed member of the chaos witches, mothers of the art of pyromancy. ", we know it sure as hell isn't Quelaag's hair as her hair is black (and she also died long ago) and it isn't Quelana's as she wasn't deformed. This leaves only the Fair Lady, who happens to have a spider that looks very much like the one seen. The corpse in front of the spider is likely Quelana, as it has her pyromancy tome and also lacks deformities. As for why there's a lack of the humanoid part, perhaps there was an attempt by Quelana at reversing what the Bed of Chaos did to her body, that resulted in her "human" part being destroyed completely, leading to Quelana staying at the side of the dying spider until she herself perished, or perhaps the offerings of humanity simply weren't enough for her to fully recover, leading to her death.

I'm going to clear this up right now, the dead spider is the fair lady, period. If the fair lady isn't dead then why is Kirk now serving Rozaria? He wouldn't have left the fair lady if she were alive. Case closed, done. Quelana is the witch you meet in dark souls 1 near Queelag's boss fight that teaches pyromancies, she is one of the witches of izalith and is the only one who managed to escape the chaos flame unharmed. Quelana is the real mother of pyromancies because she was the first one to spread pyromancies to humans. The chosen undead ISN'T her pupil, she trained Salaman, it IS NOT canon that the chosen undead meets Queelana, it is just an option just like killing Gwyndolin. It says she "only had one pupil" which confirms that the chosen undead never actually met her, she was just a pyromancy vendor in DS.

So the video isn't exactly clear where the illusory wall is.From demon ruins fire, head into the corridor and down the stairs. You come out in a walkway with a fire demon slightly hidden to your left. Go right and there is 4 medusa *****es. Watch the caster as his mist builds poison and toxic. At these 4 medusa is a stair down. Take it and exit right and immediately turn right again. You'll be in a narrow corridor with a rat in front of you. Slightly ahead and to the right is a grassy room with 3 more rats. If you run straight into the wall in front that is the illusory wall. This grassy room is where the video starts.

"A pyromancy tome of Quelaana containing her unique spells." So the book and spells are both belong to Quelaana. So why we are learning "[...]Quelana's pyromancies."? Covenant leader is Quelaan, right? Or Quelaana? Or both names?) Mistake in wiki description? A bit confused.

I feel really bad for them, they are the few characters that were completely innocent in the game, but fate (Chosen Undead) weren't so kind to them.

                      • The video that's in there doesn't deserve to be there, doesn't show how to get there, just shows the illusory wall and the tome. Whoever made it doesn't know how to make a guide video.

                        • At some point in Dark Souls I, Quelana (https://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Quelana+of+Izalith) entrusts the player to free her mother and sisters from suffering as a side quest. However, you can get the reward even if you only kill the Bed of Chaos (the Witch of Izalith presumably), though I'm sure that she would want you kill Quelaan (https://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Daughter+of+Chaos) too, as the Fair Lady is the one that's suffering the most (all blind, poisoned and deformed). So I can imagine two different stories:1. The player never finds Quelaan (she is hidden at the other side of an illusory wall after all) so he kills the Bed of Chaos and tells Quelana after that, continuing his own mission to link the fire (or let it fade). Later on, Quelana discovers Quelaan, kills her in order to free her, and dies in sadness at her side. In this version, the corpse embracing the Fair Lady's cadaver is clearly Quelana.2. The player knows about the Fair Lady existence, but he only kills the Bed of Chaos and lies to Quelana about having killed all her sisters, as he is not able to kill Quelaan either; it's too sad for everyone. After that, he returns to Quelaag's domain (https://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Chaos+Witch+Quelaag) and spends the rest of his life taking care of Quelaan, in order to redeem himself. The player never links the fire but another chosen undead does it in his place. In this version, the corpse embracing the Fair Lady's cadaver is a parallel version of the Chosen Undead in Dark Souls I.

                          • Guys, please, the Fair lady IS NOT Quelana. Quelana is the only daughter of Chaos that scaped from the Flame of Chaos without being deformed and that, later on, entrusts you to kill her mother and sisters to free them from suffering. The worst thing is that you can find all her names and information in this precise wiki and in any other all over internet. If you don't want to search, I'll do the work for you: QUELAAG reference: https://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Chaos+Witch+QuelaagQUELAAN reference: https://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Daughter+of+ChaosQUELANA reference: https://darksouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Quelana+of+IzalithAlso, Quelana's quotes. You can hear her calling herself QUELANA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2XMKRiP-5o

I'd of thought the corpse is The Fair Lady (Quelaags sister) as its surrounded by eggs and there is a hollow embracing her. Possibly Kirk or the guy with the eggs on his back that is always by her side.

                              • I don't really know if that corpse embracing the spider is Quelana herself or her last and only pupil –remember all those endearing hours trying to save Quelaan... sniff :'(

and the tome is Quelana's tome, then does that mean that the corpse embracing the spider body is Quelana? Did they at least die together?

The description is a little vague, here is how I found it: When you are walking through the catacomb looking part of Smouldering Lake from the Demon Ruins bonfire, there will be a bottom floor with 2 pyro-demons hanging out and multiple pathways connected to it. In one of the corners there is a pathway with a rat hanging out in it and no stairs. Take that pathway and take your first right and walk into the next room, there should be another 3 rats in that room. Kill them, and hit the walls to find an illusory wall that will lead to the tome.
