Rapier is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.



A lightweight thrusting sword used in noble duels employing refined techniques.

The primary attack of a thrusting sword is a series of stabs that render foes vulnerable for a devastating final thrust. Can also attack with shield up.

Skill: Stance
From stance, use normal attack to back step and execute a surprise attack, or strong attack for consecutive thrusting.



Notes and Tips:

  • Can be Infused and Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • Can parry when used as an offhand weapon, the only thrusting sword capable of this.
  • One of the few non-dagger weapons which the Sorcerer class can wield without any Str and Dex leveling.
  • Has 130 critical damage, the highest out of all the Thrusting Swords.
  • The lightest of all the Thrusting Swords and is by far the shortest one.
  • A good build involving this is the rapier in the off hand and a heavy weapon in the right, as to stun with the rapier then hit with your main weapon.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X". 
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped. 
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

          It's a shame this is the only thrusting sword that can be used to parry while holding it in the left hand. I was hoping there would be others that could also be sued for parrying... But I'll take what I can get.

              Better than the mailbreaker and found very soon.
              Though I don’t think it would be better than a dagger for reposting.

                Great weapon, but since it has the shortest range, and most people wear heavy armor which protects against thrust attacks, it basically puts you on hard mode in PVP, since you have to hit people way more than other weapons do.

                The WA heavy attack is manageable to land, and satisfying to pull off. But most people who know how to roll can dodge it EZPZ, and it's vulnerable to parries. WA light attack is really tricky to pull off. Since like parrying--you have to fight latency, you get damaged at the times you think you should be starting the move--at which point, you're wondering 'WTF did I get hit when there's 3 ft between me and his sword', and you should actually start it a bit earlier in advance to account of the latency.

                    Fun fact: This weapon can be used by sorcerers without the need to level STR or DEX, thus making it a decent alternative to your starting Mailbreaker.

                        Everyone talks about how good this thing is in the left hand but honestly it's very underrated for being a main weapon. The WA isn't too shabby since you can mix up your opponent with the bait and stab or the multi stab... Even if you miss the initial hits on the multistab, you can actually still land the final hit of it while turning as they try for a backstab on you too.

                            My plan is a pyro that has a chaos rapier in left hand and a pyro flame in right, I can poke, parry, and cast pyromancies, and I can carry an of hand dagger or 2hand the rapier to repost

                              This with the leo ring, and only counterattacking shows FROM never fixed how OP the rapier is from DS2. Still should carry a larger weapon to make up for range, but damn this thing can hit hard at lower SL

                                This can be fun to use offhand as your parry tool with a heavy, wide-swinging weapon like the Black Knight Great Axe. Sure it doesn’t have the “extended” parry frames, but seriously, 60 frames per second and you’re worried about losing 4 frames in parry time? Plus it can be hilarious to watch a straight sword spamming invader back up and suddenyl get cautious after you remind them that the rapier can still be used for thrusting in the offhand. Fast, and with better damage than most parry tools.

                                  I was very confused as to why this does a lot less damage than a basic dagger on ripostes until I finally learned that the "critical" number on the in-game stats page doesn't always actually apply to riposte damage (it usually correlates, but not always). Apparently, the "critical" multiplier only applies to counter / instability frame hits. So time your pokes to hit during attack animations to make that impressive "130" critical value actually matter.

                                    The hitbox of this thing is a lot shorter than the model itself and, apparently, this weapon does not have a guaranteed R1 combo, many players I've had fought while I was wielding this weapon were able to roll away or parry (successfully or not) after a single R1 (although it's possible that, since the weapon's actual range is a lot shorter than it should be, they don't get hit by the second R1 because they were pushed out of range by the first R1, thus allowing them to roll away). And trying to backstab people with this weapon was nearly impossible, but boy oh boy, I was getting lagstabbed again and again by straight swords and curved greatswords left and right. The runnig attack was also completely useless, the only useful thing about the moveset was the rolling R1 which is extremely fast, and the WAR1 was useful from time to time, Don't bother using the WAR2. Mediocre damage and terrible range, 4/10 would use only as a reposte or finishing tool. A dagger will serve you a lot better than this.

                                      My Simple Rapier +10 has the following scaling, unlike what the chart says:

                                        Not as good as a dagger for crits sadly. Both do 130 crit damage but my lightning dagger doing around 330 and the rapier doing 420 AR, the dagger did about 200 more damage on ripostes.. Kind of triggers me.

                                          This is absolutely my favorite off-hand weapon in the game, now. With Zweihander doing 800 and this little guy doing 500, they're great for hybrid builds. On top of that, they're both pretty light. I'm able to wear decent armor while using these... without Havel's ring.

                                            I dont know if its just me but this has more damage than the dagger with the same critical damage of 130 and yet backstabs dont seem to do nearly as much damage as a dagger. Anyone else have the same experience?

                                            • A decent early weapon for Sorcerer class (pure mage, for the matter) since it doesn't require any Str or Dex leveling. And if you aren't looking for scaling, you can simply infuse it with Raw, Fire or Deep Gems. Then, you can focus on leveling only Intelligence in which you can reach 50 Int right at SL40.

                                                Oh man, I just found this thing and I am having so much fun. Every time I stab something, I imagine my character saying some random French sounding word (anguard, touche, sacrebleu etc). It's also so easy to hit thing in narrow hallways. Probably the best weapon for a new guy, you can also learn to parry with it.

                                                  Did noone notice that the rapier is turned the wrong way around while held in the main hand?
                                                  While held in the main hand the handguard is on the inside, thus providing no defence. While held in the off hand the guard is facing outwards and thus providing defence to your hand and fingers.

                                                  What do you guys think, is it just an oversight or was the rapier ingame originally intended to be an offhand only weapon?

                                                    Has anyone actually tested this weapon's parry frames? The animation itself looks very similar to the Parrying Dagger animation, except it twists around a little bit more before fending off an atttack. I've tested on the hollows in front of Firelink Shrine and it seems pretty sucky. Maybe if i tried with enemies that are easier to parry like the Black Knights or straight sword Lothric Knights?

                                                      As of update 1.05/App 1.09, the Rapier has 130 Critical damage, this essentially makes the Rapier a perfect weapon for PVPers and Offline play for the entirely of the game, especially when wielded in the left hand (assuming you're quick enough to switch to two-handed for a quick riposte, right after a parry).

                                                        My preferred secondary to my Legion Scimitars, the rapier perfectly complements them due to covering all their weaknesses. Heavily armored enemy? No problem just switch to this pure piercing weapon. Tight hallway? No problem all the attacks are thrusts. Having trouble dodging an attack? Switch to this and a shield to either parry or turtle.

                                                          I'm about to start NG+ and have been infusing and testing with various weapons. I infused a +4 rapier with lightning and now I cannot buff it with Carthus or Magic! Thought I was doing something wrong but it just won't have it.....can anyone else test this please?

                                                          • Way back in Dark Souls 1 this was the piercing sword everyone complained about thanks to its crit, but now it gets to sit back and relax while estoc takes all the attention.

                                                                This weapon, while infused with a simple gem and used in your offhand, really compliments an Exile greatsword user (as well as people who spam their weapon art in general) because the Exile greatsword's weapon art cannot be parried, and therefore, the fp regen becomes very useful to have, especially for fight clubs if you run out of ashen estus and fp. Not to mention, you can parry with it and it has a fast attack animation which becomes useful for poke damage if you can't seem to hit them very often with your main weapon. Also, if you use weapon buffs like Dark Blade or Carthus Flame arc, having the rapier in your offhand means that you don't have to switch your main weapon and cancel the buff. Give this one a try in pvp. It will make you fairly unpredictable and very versatile. Also, if you need to block, you can always just two hand your greatsword since it has decent stability and it's guard absorption is on par with some small shields.

                                                                    OH GOD IT'S GOOD LOOKING.Strong attack weapon art is basically a forward lunge with a VERY quick flurry of attacks, finished with a forward lunging thrust at the end. Basically a souped up Ricard's rapier r2.
