Ringed Knight Straight Sword is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3. It is part of The Ringed City.

Straight sword wielded by the Ringed Knights.
The arms of early men were forged in the Abyss, and betray a smidgen of life.

For this reason the gods cast a seal of fire upon these swords, and those who possessed them.

Skill: Ember
Stand ready with the timeworn blade as it restores its ancient brilliance and reignites a short-lived flame. From this stance transition to normal or strong attack.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
  • As this weapon shares its one-handed moveset with the Longsword, an effective combo for PvP is R1+R1+R2. While it doesn't true combo, the delay of the R2 lines up with the duration of a medium roll, letting the attack connect outside of the opponent's i-frames.
  • All weapons have motion values assigned to each attack, which are modifiers to AR that are associated with the attack being used.
    • The Ringed Knight Straight Sword has a motion value of 200 on backstab, 250 on riposte, and 60+225 on Hornet Ring riposte. The motion value of a backstab with a straight sword does not change with Hornet Ring.

  • The Ringed Knight Straight Sword has a range of 36.3408xl on the 1h R1 and 35.8932xl on the 2h R1
  • The Ringed Knight Straight Sword has thrusting R2 attacks.
  • The recovery of all attacks can be canceled by quickly pressing the Weapon Skill button during the recovery frames of an attack.
  • All parts of the weapon art are parryable.
  • While holding the weapon art, movement is slowed to a walk, and stamina regen is greatly reduced.
  • The Weapon Art R1 and R2 can be used immediately after activating the Weapon Skill, before the flame expands from the sword.
  • When you run out of FP, the sword will still ignite while holding the Weapon Skill button, but not when you swing it.
  • The weapon art adds a Flat 90 Fire damage increase to AR

Location/Where to Find

  • The Ringed City: From the Ringed City Streets bonfire, head out into the swamp and head straight, past several Locust Men. Defeat or run by the judicator here and bank right, and up a small hill. It is here laying on a corpse near a Locust Man.

Weapon is so easily parry-able in pvp but there are ways around of course (mix up the running heavy attacks) and dodging it; if you played the ringed city and got this weapon, you know how to dodge it, if not, just remember it does have trouble tracking player dodge rolls if you dodge in the right direction (either dodging left or right)

garbage exploits like this are why the same 5 tryhards from 2016 are the only ones still playing this horror movie of a pvp, nice job so called devs

        • Anonymous

the people who exploit glitches as a crutch for pvp are going to be the reason that people stop playing pvp all together. If fromsoft ever actually came back and fixed all these weird bugs and exploits people have found, the online meta would be so much healthier and more importantly more fun. I personally am just sick of playing against cheating weirdos who get so incrediably toxic when things don’t go their way.

i wish it was a pyro weapon, if you're a pyro in this game, the only dedicated weapons you have are the demon scar and the onyx blade.

            • Anonymous

This bad boy has everything you need,
it's hella fast, it has good damage, and has decent range.
You need more range or a little mix up for pvp? sure, just use the weapon art and smol blade gets big fire extension.

              • Anonymous

weapon art looks visually amazing but it bugs the hell outta me that the fire blade is slightly off-center from the sword blade, so it clips through while you're doing the cool pose

                • Anonymous

While it WA looks cool af, it's easy to parry. This weapon also can't be buffed or infused which makes its damage less than LKS.

                  • Anonymous

Glitching aside, this thing is stupid good iv PvP. Sure, it's not buffable, is entirely inflexible to a build other than Quality or Strength, and has relatively modest damage. But the weapon art more than makes up for those shortcomings. Specifically, it grants very fast, and very strong hyperarmor. The weapon art on this STRAIGHT SWORD, that costs a mere 7 FP to use, has better poise and trading potential than a CURVED GREATSWORD. Oh, and the weapon art also hits multiple times, meaning that you are very, very likely to hit your opponent in between hyperarmor if they're trading with you, guaranteeing you the rest of the combo. Oh, and it extends the range of the sword, making it easier to outspace your opponents. Oh, and the R2 immediately out of weapon art is an outstanding rollcatch. The sword itself isn't so bad either, boasting a long length and a tiny amount of fire damage to finish off a BKS turtle after you pop their tears.

The recovery cancel is extremely strong but rkss still loses to pk, demon scar, xbow, and murky on paper, so I’d still consider it a fun tech. It’s also not always optimal to recovery cancel since it uses a lot of stamina, so you can pressure people who overuse the cancel.

                      • Anonymous

The cancel is game breaking and pure BS.
Straight sword are already stupid fast enough but this makes it even faster.
They have two weaknesses, they can get parried if spammed or you can out hyper armour them.

                        1) This spam will make it unparryable (I have yet to parry someone spamming it) leaving you with only option of rolling out, which will also get punished.
                        2) Its fast enough to avoid trade punish from ultras and if you somehow do it with a great sword the black knight shield will step in and block.

Its not hard to pull off once muscle memory is down. Cant believe people actually defend this garbage.

Enough poise so the WA's hyperarmor can go through greatswords, while also retaining soul of cinder fashion!

                            • Anonymous

It shares movesets with the longsword and has as much range as the lothric holy sword without the weapon art. 2h r2 + 2h 2nd r2 is a truecombo with a good chance of chaining into the 4 hits of the wa r1. 6 hits in total. Requires roll catching for the wa, but seems fairly easy to pull off, the hard part is landing the first r2 without getting staggered.

So it's really only the weapon art that makes this sword usable right? Because without it it's just a straight sword with mediocre damage.

                                  • Anonymous

It’s WA is decent as a utility tool for roll spammers. Wouldn’t suggest it as a main weapon but rather something you wanna pull out in the heat of battle and surprise your opponent withZ

                                    • Anonymous

The sword is good but I prefer weapons that stay buffed after i use the weapon art. You'll get more out of using Lorian's since it only costs 10 FP a minute as opposed to the draining/ parry able moves that this offers. Don't get me wrong this weapon is good, but the time it takes to pull off the first Art R1 you could be getting hit by an arrow with a headshot. It just leaves you too open.

                                      • Anonymous

I use this sometimes on apure str build and though it hits at around 210 damage the damage it deals is overshadowed by the broadsword which deals roughly 320 damage the broadsword honestly is more consistant but if you have trouble spacing with the broadsword i would honestly recommend using this since it has longer range

                                        • Anonymous

Everyone complains about this thing but I don't think it's that good, the weapon art is easy to dodge and the sword deals low damage, nobody has ever killed me with it.

                                          • Anonymous

I'm so happy I learned how to parry the WA, I was getting my ass beat by it embarrassingly often. I like this weapon, might make a build around it sometime.

                                            • Anonymous

Why From made a guaranteed 4 hit combo WA with the range of a UGS I don't know. All I know is that I block all tryhards using this just as much as I do with PKCS users.

                                              • Anonymous

Fun fact: Don't use this seriously. If you're going to go full tryhard mode there are better weapons, especially for strength builds. It is super fun though. The weapon art makes it flashy and badass, but isn't the best by far.

The ringed knight weapons barely got any fire damage but its still very effective in certain situations let me explain why:
Fire damage stuns certain enemies like dogs or Lycanthropes which makes them way more easily to deal with.

Looking for someone to possibly drop me this. I’m wanting to do a soul of cinder cosplay/playthrough and I think it’s necessary to imitate his wambocombo. I have the dlc but don’t really want to do a whole run through just to get it. If here’s not the best place to ask where would be sense I normally don’t use websites for games.

An utterly rubbish sword for edgy trash casuls that prefer hitting the air with useless wombo combo rather than actually hitting anyone lol. Even my pkcs can out range this picece of shhit.

                                                          • Anonymous

While this is my favorite weapon in the game, dark straight sword turtles completely shut this weapon down due to it being a physical weapon and dealing 1 damage per hit on shields. Does it mean you can’t win with it? No, you can. I’ve beaten many dark turtles with this. It just takes a lot more patience.

                                                            • Anonymous

WA normal attack easily gets 2-4 hits but hits like a wet noodle. Good finisher with the range, but don't expect to stunlock anyone to death

                                                              • Anonymous

This is what the Firelink Greatsword should have been like. Ringed Knight SS has that same WA combo as Lord of Cinder's weapon in his second phase, except for the fire blast at the end. Too bad the INT/FTH scaling on the Ringed Knight sword is so terribly low, makes it rather useless for a Pyro character. I'd rather use a Chaos Broadsword+10.

                                                                • Anonymous

Ringed Knight Straight Sword 101 - The scaling of this weapon is a bit deceiving, as the B for STR and D for DEX would lead you to believe this is a straight sword exclusively for strength builds. However, unless you are well under level 100, you're going to want to level DEX as well as STR. 40 STR is a must, as for DEX: 30, 33, and 37 are the ideal stopping points. While two handing this weapon is tempting because of the high STR scaling and to have access to the unique weapon art, this weapon truly shines when one handing it with a "weapon skill" shield. Ethereal Oak Shield is a great choice. This allows you to have access to the quick, low stamina usage move set of one handing a straight sword as well has being about to use weapon art on the fly. So you don't have to delay and telegraph to your opponent that you are going to use the weapon art. As with all straight swords, you're going to want to follow up a typical one handed R1, R1 combo with an uncharged R2. This will hit your opponent somewhat frequently with very little risk to yourself. The weapon art has a true combo (a series of hits that are inescapable in PVP every time if done correctly... and without lag): weapon art R1 into another weapon art R1. Be aware that the weapon art can be used almost immediately after holding L2, you do not need to wait for the animation to finish. Similarly to the basic R1, R1 true combo, you're going to want to follow up the weapon art R1, weapon art R1 true combo with an R2 most of the time. A regular R2, not a weapon art R2. This will hit your opponent somewhat often and is, again, very low risk. The weapon art R2, while useful in some situations, should be used sparingly and it's follow up R2 even more sparingly. Using the weapon R2 instead of a regular R2 after the weapon art R1, weapon art R1 true combo can catch your opponent off guard occasionally, but doesn't hit as consistently and has some risk. The greatest draw back to this weapon is its damage output. It's not as powerful as other straight swords can be and it doesn't fit with most builds. However, the diverse move set the weapon art allows compensates for this. This is definitely a great weapon to consider if it fits your build and you find yourself bored with the simplicity of other straight swords.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Intelligence and Faith scalling are E but try to level these stats to 99 and you will get less than 10 bonus fire damage. Total from 99int+99fth! S,A,B,C,D scallings with given stat are roughly the same for all weapons but E can vary from just little below D to something that should be F or G.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Idc what people say, my own experience shows thatthis sword is busted. You literally just actively use the weapon arte in your fighting style and you can rek. Admittedly, hyperarmor can successfully shut this weapon down if they have enough of it and you're bad at spacing. But only if they're using ultras. I can pretty easily beat pkcs users with this, I'd even say it's good as a direct counter.

                                                                      • Anonymous

For anyone who likes this sword but don't like to 2h it constantly for the WA, give the Stone Parma shield a shot. I'd even suggest slapping a Simple Gem on that shield for PvE or Blessed Gem for PvP since you still get 57 stability on it at +10. A fun combo you can do with this in PvP is: (1h) R1 > R1 > hold WA into the WA R1 > R1 combo. It will usually (about 80~90%) rollcatch or autoparry punish. The timing is pretty tight, but you should deal about 60~% total HP damage if you manage to pull it off. Remember not to spam the WA as it's pretty easy to get parried. Overall, a really solid weapon.

                                                                        • Anonymous

I use this, with ringed knight armor and fight normally, then at half health start using the weapon art, chaos fire storm and sacred flame when I'm a spears of the church boss. Hope I gave some fun fights.

                                                                          • Anonymous

I just realized how much this sword reminds me of Penetrator. That stance, that stab, the range... Time for some cosplay.

                                                                            • Anonymous

Starting a new game with a friend and I would like to use it from the start. I have a good chunk of plus 5 and 8-10 weapons. Add me on ps4 tattedknight94 if your interested.

                                                                              • Anonymous

This weapon looks amazing and the WA is incredibly powerful in PvP, but sometimes I wish they'd have just given it pure physical damage instead of split since there's no real scaling with faith and int. It would also have been a lot better if the WA was more similar to Lothric's holy sword. With the heavy R2 remaining the same and making the R1 be the usual shield-breaking upward slash. That way the sword would have been less OP in PvP and more versatile in PvE.

                                                                                • Anonymous

Someone please edit notes and tips, the weapon art adds a FLAT 90 DAMAGE FIRE INCREASE to AR. (Tested by using WA R1 and quickly opening menu, damage changed from 432 to 522)

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Lol, cancer weapon confirmed. I just equipped this for the 1st time on my sorcerer build yesterday and watched my wins skyrocket lol. The only times i lost were when it was a person who clearly knew EXACTLY how to handle this weapon. It's SO ez to use! I'm not even on an optimized build!

                                                                                    • Anonymous

So it's WA has enough Poise health to go through two Greatsword 2H R1s? Man this games hyper armor system is bad. Yes, cause a SS needs THAT much utility.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Why are Int/Faith Pyro Builds limited to playing with either regular chaos/dark infused straight-swords, or greatswords. I really dislike playing with greatswords, Please lower the STR requirement for the Ringed Knight Straight Sword (or dont) and INCREASE the Int/Faith Scaling - this should be a pyro weapon. I would be SO HAPPY to have a special straightsword as a pyro.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

After about an hour of using it, I've won 23 duels in a row. The WA has hyper armor, if only a little. Boost it with a havels set and you have a good bit of hyper armor, enough to power through a split leaf combo or a 1hand heavy weapon hit. People don't usually see this and as such aren't used to it. WA R2, they'll almost always roll to your side and into you, then WA R1 spam until they roll away. You can get about 4 hits on em before they back off. If they roll behind you or to the side, finish the WA R1 combo for that final slash and it'll always hit them. It's very good for pvp, not meta tier, but it's good. Don't trade with any black knight weapons or 2hand heavies because they will break your hyper armor, don't bother with shield turtles since the stamina damage is miniscule, and for those that can parry well, the WA attacks can be delayed heavily. 2hand heavies can be out spaced by the WA R1 and for the non vertical hitting movesets, the WA R1 will hit them before they can hit you with their R1 if you immediately press R2, R1 with a slight delay between them.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Bank right? I swear so many articles here sound like they are written by a twelve-year-old from the early 90s who's trying to sound cool to teenagers but is really just embarrassing himself. astalavista, baby!

                                                                                            • Anonymous

One of it's notable traits is the low FP consumption. With 10 attunement, you have enough FP to do (roughly) three WA R1 combos before running out. The WA R1 also staggers like crazy, which causes most people to panic roll because of the scary appearance (which you can then roll catch with regular R1, or WA R2 if they get too far).
I find this being good against (some) slower weapons, where you can WA R1 them while they're in their recovery frames. However, when fighting against other light weapons that can also stagger spam, it's a lot harder and you should consider switching weapons.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

I honestly feel like it’s under powered. Especially for late game. Although...It does seem good for a Abyss Watcher 2nd phase cosplay if glitches are patched. I do think the fire dmg should be higher though.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

I feel like this weapon was From's apology for making the Firelink GS so crappy. Anyone else notice the WA R1 combo is basically Soul of Cinder's 5-part special attack, just with a final slash in place of the explosion?

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

I think they should either improve the base dmg of the sword or improve the WA dmg or make it a 5 hit guaranted combo instead of 4. Because i only see the splitleaf or the RKPG from the DLC. Although its good enough and i love it.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

When the sword is ignited it kinda reminds me of the penetrating sword from demon's souls. Might be good for cosplay of the penetrator.

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

I used this weapons for my Ringed Knight build (boring build stupidly powerful) and i scarcely loose. I was wondering though, how much poise do you get during the WA. It doesnt seem to give enough to tank even one R1 from halberds, UGS, Greathammers, Greataxes.
