Splitleaf Greatsword is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

A long-handled greatsword that made its way from a distant land. Crafted entirely with steel, making it exceedingly heavy.

Splitleaf refers to the shape of the great blade, and its resemblance to the veins of a leaf.

Skill: Wind Wheel
Spin weapon vigorously above head and sweep foes, and transition with normal or strong attack for continued spin attacks, which whip up wind and gain momentum, strengthening subsequent attacks.

Notes and Tips:

  • Can be Infused and Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • The weapon art can deflect arrows and bolts, but not great arrows.
  • With 40 strength and 40 dexterity, the sharp infusion actually grants higher AR than the refined infusion (528 AR vs 503 AR). When two-handing, the AR for the heavy infusion is slightly higher (546 AR vs 543 AR).
  • At 66 strength, this weapon's heavy infusion reaches 599 AR two-handed (549 AR one-handed), making it the highest non-split AR obtainable for the halberd weapon class.
  • Obviously, this weapon is not a greatsword. Instead, it appears to be a Chinese polearm known as a Guandao.

Location/Where to Find

  • Can be bought from the Stone-humped Hag at The Dreg Heap Bonfire, as soon as you walk in to the area before drop down for 11,000 Souls. It can also be bought from the Shrine Handmaiden for 11,000 after giving her the Old Woman's Ashes.

The weapon art hits different, as in it WILL take 3/4th of your health bar to the shadow realm with the true combo, never to return. Combine it with the pressure halberds already have and...yeah.
It's very fun to use though.

      • Anonymous

The first time I fight someone with this weapon, I instantly get infinite comboed with pivot cancel, now I hate it. Thanks you fromsoftware. The fact it can 3 hit true combo from just r1 is ridiculous too.

A "greatsword" can be 3 different weapon classes. Can't wait for the Greatsword bow and Greatsword dagger in the Elden ring dlc

          • Anonymous

"Crafted entirely with steel, making it exceedingly heavy."
Weighs 13.5 units, not even the heaviest halberd. It is lighter than every greataxe.

            • Anonymous

This is one of the best weapons in Dark Souls 3. The weapon art basically adds a separate moveset, incredible on a pure strength build. Can't get enough of it.

              • Anonymous

So many of the weapon arts here are far better than elden rings weapon arts. Spinning strikes doesn't hold a candle to this.

                • Anonymous

I swear, Halberds have been the weirdest weapon class in the souls series.

DS1 had the Black Knight Halberd which is a Glaive, and a Scythe which is counted as a Halberd

DS2 had a Spear which is actually a Halberd, and when broken becomes a Twinblade

                  DS3 has a Glaive that's actually a Bardiche, and now a Greatsword that's actually a Guandao/Glaive

The dark spirit slayer 3000. Just switch to this when you get invaded, buff it, land a lucky R1, one shot them and be on your way.

Active: Jax enters Evasion, a defensive stance, for up to 2 seconds, causing all basic attacks against him to miss. Jax also takes 25% reduced damage from all champion area of effect abilities. After 1 second, Jax can reactivate to end it immediately.

                        What is it?
                        It’s a SPLITLEAF GREATSWORD”

                        Someone at Fromsoft probably.

i once got invaded by a dude wielding this at the second bonfire of archdragon's peak, and the dude does the strong attack and goes flying into the void just beside the bonfire and i've never laughed so hard in pvp before, dude looked so badass just to die without hitting me once

                          • Anonymous

Okay this might not be a greatsword but I just wanna see what this would look like with a greatsword moveset. Ik it'd be super busted with the range it has, but I'm not talking practicality, I'm talking shits and giggles.

Sometimes I feel like FromSoftware is a group of fantastic smart talented people and a one complete moron, who got the job cause he's Miyazaki's cousin and he's like "uh uh lets give murky hs thrust counter damage and a bigger range than spears" or "uh uh lets make a very long halberd with hyperarmor, quick R1 that true combos into 1,4k hp and lets call it a greatsword o.O"

At least it has very easy counter: every single greatsword - similiar speed and much better hyperarmor. Nothing is more funny than cheap morons going straight for their R1 helikopter combo just to be stunned in every single trade. Trust me, it works every single time.

The reason 40 vigor is necessary at meta levels. Also completely nullifys the winged knight halberd in every measurable category

                                • Holy crap this thing is broken. Good speed, range, and damage, plus a weapon art that doesn’t consume fp if you don’t finish it with another attack. The only real way to handle this thing is to either use murky which is just as bad or out space it with a spear. But even then you can’t have any mistakes, because it’ll take out 70% of your health with one combo. Oh wait, you can buff it? Make it 90%. Maybe you can use perseverance on a heavy weapon and trade, but this is usually limited to easy to dodge great hammers. Now the black knight sword…boys we may have a solution.

I faced a player who used this weapon ... I think he exploited a kind of glitch, how to explain ... He reused the first stroke of the WA repeatedly without continuing the combo, I tried to do the same but my character spins the halberd twice and that's it ... Impossible to fight or defend myself, he uses this glitch (for me it's a glitch) and I die without having had time to do anything ... and all that to receive the very frustrating "Point Down" followed by a dung stalk. This infuriates me.

                                    • Anonymous

Compared to gundyr halberd gundyr does more damage in all attacks, however you can buff this weapon making it stronger, its just preference and choice for either one.

                                        Ngl

My first playthrough I was using spitleaf+avelyn and was getting a decent amount of wins in arena duels. But I kept asking myself, "is this how I should be playing the game? Cleaving healthbars via a combo that has decentnrange on the startup hit?"

At first, I thought yes. I play smash ultimate, and these kinds of combos are commonplace in that setting(ex. Samus charge shot confirms, Terry jab cancels, Rob gyro tech, Luigi in general). Unfortunately, after a few hours of playing, i realized most other players only had a true combo that consisted of two R1s. Beyond that, everything was about calling out their reaction.

And that's how Dark Souls duels are. If you can call out your opponent, you can continue and press your advantage. This is why so many hate daggers- it's insanely easy to press this advantage by walking forward and then R1ing again. However, the Spitleaf tosses away the need for these reads by just killing you outright, arguably making it the worst weapon in the game in terms of helping someone get good at PVP. I don't want to call it a crutch, as some skilled players(namely chase) utilize this out of crits to rollcatch and finish a target off. However, this should not be your primary weapon, as it sets most skill aside in favor of R1-L2-R1.

Yes, once you're skilled at the game, feel free to nab this, but otherwise, please try to use an alternative option. I don't care that people hate this weapon because it kills THEM, I dislike it because it hurts a player's ability to learn the ins and outs of PVP. For one's first run I always say the same: try a greatsword out. They're arguably the most balanced class.

TL:DR Spitleaf makes it difficult to learn the ins and outs of pvp and harms new players more than it helps them when it comes to the process of learning combat, as it gives massive damage of one hit that has relatively good speed.

The most annoying weapon to fight against.

Not because it’s bad or anything, actually it’s a top tier weapon, but if you mess up just once….. BAM,
70% of your hp is gone. You can’t mess with this weapon or it WILL stun lock you too death.

keep in mind if you use this infused: its true combo consists of many smaller hits that build up damage so split damage types can sort of hard curb the weapon. always use with just physical damage or buffing.

alternatively, do use this weapon infused because tbh I would love to not get one combo'd by this at least once in my life lmfao

do someone know how much poise do i need to poise through gs with r1? like for gs it is 16ish but do someone know how much is needed for halberds?
halberds vs gs is quite hard and boring cause spam that wa on that halberd.

So frickin annoying literally just fought the same 7 different players wielding this garbage right after Pontiff. All utilizing the glitch, whatever happened to getting good. Seems like a noob weapon to me. This weapon is cancer incarnate.

this weapon is a very good utility to have especially for ganks since the running r1s on halberds are very good at roll catching also the weapon art is very good at protecting your sides and back against people who try flanking although don't try to spam the spin move because people will be able to avoid swipes and backstab you it is mostly something you do in small bursts to keep people at bay

                                                      • Anonymous

I wish all DLC weapons had some kind of visual effect during the weapon art. Like for example the gaels GS should have a visual effect. Not a damage buff just a visual effect. I think it would be cool if the splitleaf got a purple effect during the spin. also the demon scar should have a cooler, more unique weapon art. I think all of these would be cool but it would be nice to see what other people think about my idea.

If you guys are having trouble going against this weapon, here's what you have to do.
first, if you have any spears, EG ringed knight spear, 4 pronged plow, switch to that weapon. If you don't I reccomend you get thr ringed knight spear, as it has really good range, sick ass weapon art, and low stat req.
once you have your spear, spam the running attack and only do the running attack. if your opponent pulls out a caestus or shield to parry, I like to throw daggers to throw them off, and get a backstab when they attempt a parry. this might take some practice, but once you get it down, splitleaf will mean nothing to you.
Heres also a list of good counters for each weapon :

daggers < straight swords(gottard is a good counter against corvian knife)
straight swords < greatswords(claymore, black knight, gaels, etc)
                                                          greatswords < halberds(splitleaf, gundyrs)
                                                          halberds < spears(Ringed knight spear)
spears < shield(havels shield, black knight shield)
axes < greatswords(claymore, black knight, gaels, etc)
ultras < daggers(corvian is the best dagger)
ultras = ultras(if they have an ultra, just pull one out yourselves)
                                                          ultras < backstabs(reverse roll backstab)
rapiers < literally everything(if they have a rapier, just pull out a shield, or straight sword)
i think i covered everything, and all of this is only a reccomendation. you can win with any weapon, it just takes practice.

The ultimate cheese weapon if you know the best combo.

Just need a single 1 r1 to combo into something (no buffs) that kills someone with 1300 HP, 40 vitality, and 30% absorption. (luckily most people don't know it, but most people know the ones that deal 1000-1200 damage that become one shot with a buff and lower defenses)

                                                                  "Just use perseverance"
Anyone with half a brain will see that their opponent has a perseverance weapon out. They can then either backstab punish if they predict or just r1 and roll away on reaction.

                                                                  "Just use hyper armor weapons"
Halberds outclass almost all weapons in r1 range. Fume ultra greatsword and Greatsword have the longest 2h r1 of all ultra weapons and this weapon ties in range with it's 2h r1. This weapon has the advantage in speed and range against all other hyper armor weapons. Also, if you stack super high poise, you can poise through the greatsword weapon class.
So let's just say I mess up, so what? I need to make 1-2 more mistakes depending if they are using GS or ultras, meanwhile, 1 hit is all it takes for my victory.

All supposed "counters" completely rely on the split-leaf user being incompetent.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Did he just take a quick glace at it's icon and think the handle ended right there? Too busy making 2 more swamps to double check? I'm trying to imagine just how this weapon got it's name and I just can't figure out the logic to it lol.

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous
