Sunlight Straight Sword is a Unique Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

Straight sword imbued with the strength of lightning.

This featureless long sword contains the very power of the sun. Perhaps is a relic of one-sided adoration.

Skill: Oath of Sunlight
Raise the sword aloft when praising the sun to boost attack and damage absorption for self and allies in vicinity. The warriors of sunlight are co-operators from an ancient age.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused, but can be Buffed
  • Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
  • The Weapon Art, Oath of Sunlight, is a buff that increases damage dealt (both physical and elemental), and decreases damage taken by yourself and allies nearby when it is cast.
  • The Oath of Sunlight does not stack with and is overwritten by Sacred Oath. (Tears of Denial is also overwritten, you need to cast the buff first and then Tears if you want it to stay active) Can be stacked with deep protection
  • Gives a 10% AR buff and 10% bonus to damage absorption for 45 seconds. Bonuses to damage and absorption are multiplicative.
  • Is not affected by Lingering Dragoncrest Ring

    • To My Fellow Warriors of Sunlight08 Aug 2016 10:54

Praise the everloving sun my fellow warriors! Or great warrior Solaire has returned! We must honor his memory by showing all Dark Sword users that the power of the sun can defeat any broke-ass weapon!

      • Is this even Solaire's sword?04 Jul 2016 12:50

Random over-interpretation: The Dark souls 1 Sunlight Straight Sword had no faith requirement or special powers whatsoever, but the description in this game clearly references Solaire, which suggests to me that he became Lord of Cinder in his own timeline and infused the sword with his power. Or maybe it just has these abilities in this game because having it be a longsword-clone would be a waste of development time

        • Don't have to always equip the sword04 Jul 2016 06:02

If you activate the Oath you can switch to your other weapon and still retains the Oath buff. I'm using my Sunlight sword just for using its buff then i switch to my Lothric Greatsword then proceeds casting DP and Lightning Blade on it.

          • Really Strong16 Jun 2016 01:16

I have to say with a 40/40 Build and 40 condition, this weapon is a beast.

A boss gets around 260 dmg without the Buff, and i can hit 9 times in a row until 0 stamina.

on aldrich i could do 1400 dmg in a row until he teleportet. Great!

            • Really good28 May 2016 15:51

Probably one of the best weapon in the game. I'm using it on my pyro character, and with the fire buff and the weapon art, it has over 700 AR. The weapon art also applies to the other weapon and increases your magic damage, not to mention it increases your defence, is pretty light and works on your friends during coop.

              • Stacks with Deep Protection, but only in a certain order17 May 2016 19:17

This is one of the weirdest things I've come across in this game, but nonetheless it might be useful information.

Oath of Sunlight can stack with the Deep Protection miracle...but ONLY if Oath from the sword is cast first, and Deep Protection cast second. Then they'll stack. However, if you do Deep Protection first, then Oath of Sunlight second...Oath will overwrite DP.

In other words, say I have a weapon with AR 300...casting Oath brings it to 334 and casting Deep Protection afterwards brings it up to 351. So they stack.

However, when I cast Deep Protection first, AR goes up to 315, and casting Oath after brings it to just 334...the standard buff from Oath. So it didn't stack.

It's...really weird I don't know if it's a bug or intended, but whatever the case you can get them to stack just as long as you go Oath > DP in order.

                • Does stack with Sacred Oath!14 May 2016 06:15

But not in the way you would expect it.

I tested this with a friend, where we summoned each other and one used the weapon art while the other used Sacred Oath. There was a noticeable damage increase, which was higher than when I used the weapon art or Sacred Oath by myself. The highest I could get on my own (weapon +5, 40 str/dex/fth) is 493 (487 with Sacred Oath), while with both buffs it was at 526.

This means that the buffs *don't* stack when they are from the same source, but they do if it comes from different sources! Use it to your advantage!

                  • Amazing 2nd Weapon, or First!04 May 2016 13:37

I play a quality build where I got up to 16 faith just for this sword. Honestly it's amazing with solid base damage and B/B scaling at +5. You can use it all on it's own but I love starting duels and invasions by using the weapon art, then I switch to my Drang Hammers. Combined with Dragonslayer Armor and Ring of Steel Protection, I can get up to around 40 absorption, making it easy for me to get in close and deal out a ton of damage.

Great straight sword but can also be used just for the amazing weapon art to improve your main weapon, switching back and forth. That's what I do, at least.
