Struggled to get the symbol of avarice in my main save of 200 hours, ended up only getting it in NG+ by respec-ing to a luck build with 2 crystal sage rapiers and golden coins. In NG the symbol of avarice never spawned at the sunlight traightsword mimic. Decided 'Why not go play Dark Souls 3 again on a new save?'

This is my second run with a Knight as a character class.
I chose the Knight, because these were casual runs with no effort.

Knight starts with 7 points for Luck.

In both runs I couldnt get the Symbol of avarice in the regular manner by killing them.

So i farmed for too long with symbol of avarice and rusted coins in it. At one moment SOA item discovery bonus ups to 101 from 100. Wtf is this? Hidden mechanic, bug or whatever?

Why farm this item if you already have 1? It is used as a hat and it gives 100 discovery item and 50% more souls. Even if you have 10 of them that will not increase your discovery or souls gained.

So ad I read comments, could it be all mimics can spawn symbol of avarice even when killed? were it only lothric castle it would be weird but i read many of you did that in different areas so it's even weirder to think "more than one but just specific ones" drop this after realoading the map. it makes much more sense only 1 or 2 are bugged (at most) or ALL are bugged.

tip: if you leave the mimic in high wall of lothric allive, then hes the first possible farmable mimic, hes very close to the bonfire. if you wait all the way until yhorm to farm it like the wiki suggests you will be missing out on 50% souls for every boss kill, i wouldnt recommend that, you will be like 10 levels lower than usual for no reason, basically as soon as you have crystal rapier and paladins ashes (lets you buy undead hunter charms) you can buy like 15 undead hunter charms, warp to tower on the wall bonfire and farm until you get it, if you picked gold coins as burial gift, which i always do, you will get it insanely quickly, also since some people seem to be confused on how the undead hunter charms even work: after you use it you have to wait until his teeth move, only then will the item appear, after you see the teeth move, punch him unarmed, since you dont wanna kill him and throw another undead hunter charm, do this 5 times then go back to the bonfire and repeat until you get it, like i said with gold coins and crystal rapier it shouldnt take long at all.

I think mimics cannot be farmed anymore, I hit it, reload on bonfire and come back but it doesn't drop.

Looks like this is a GUARANTEED drop from any Mimic if you wake them up, quickly cast Rapport on them and then after you kill them you get Symbol of Avarice.
Did this to 3 mimics in a row, and all 3 of them dropped it.

Has anyone managed to break this item (aka put its durability to 0) to see how it looks? My new thing is to break all my favorite sets of armor to see how they look (I only just discovered that broken armor had different looks), but this thing has 500 durability so even with an optimal armor breaking strat it'd take a lot of time, but what I fear is that I won't be able to break it before it breaks me due to the health drain. I've tried fininding pics of it but to no avail, so if anyone knows if it's worth my time please let me know.

I just begin the game for the first time and killed the mimic in lothric wall and he gave me two symbols.

Okay for real now, for the people farming with undead charms, you have to wait to check for the item AFTER his initial wake sequence, wait till his teeth bend backwards a little, that's when the item roll occurs.

Here's a guaranteed way to get it:
1) Find a mimic where there are no or less enemies from the nearest bonfire
2) Use a pale tongue at Rosario s bed chambers and put all your levels into Luck (mine was 84 when I did this)
3) Carry undead hunter charms
4) Equip Gold Serpent Ring
5) Equip Crystal Sages Rapier
6) Use a Rusted Gold Coin
7) Throw the undead hunter charm at the mimic and you will get the Helm on your first try

Here to confirm that you can in fact find it by quitting and reloading over and over again if you have already killed all the mimics. I found it at shared grave after 10-15 reloads (my game bugged out and the shrine handmaid wouldn't sell undead hunter charms so I had to get it this way lol).

Best place to farm is the one mimic on the second floor of Pontiff's Boss room, just take the elevator from the bonfire and there's the mimic, not a single enemy and easy to reset. Just remember to hit the mimic after hunter charm for faster reset as the guide mentioned.

Quick question, how do you know if the mimic dropped the symbol of avarice before you pick the items dropped ? And if you loot a mimic chest without killing it, can you re-loot it after quitting the game ?

Backstabbing stops the life drain for the length of the animation. Don't know about the reposting animation though.

it isnt mentioned here but the mimic at hihg wall of lothric has the highest chance of dropping it i recomend not killing the mimic until you can buy hunter charms it often only takes 5 min to get it.

Just found one in the Shared Grave in the spot where the mimic was at after killing it and revisiting the area later on. Think I killed all of them this playthrough, so I think one does spawn if you kill em all and then reload the area.

Can you out heal the damage from the mimic head? Like wear 2 health regen weapons or shields qnd the regen ring all 3 together to cancel out the damage?

Also how mutch damage does it give the player? Like 10 damge per second?

For anyone who is struggling to get it after killing all mimics, go to the last one you killed or where the sunlight sword is (this one always worked for me).

Equip all item discovery items you have and just keep quitting and reloading. It should appear where the mimic used to be.

fastest way I have found to get this is in the abandoned tomb, kill the demon, run along the wall so boney bois don't chase after you, and shoot your narcotics. just got it for the first time after 2 years of playing with this

This with Harald's Legion Armor... this is the highest peak of fashion souls. It would've been nice if Symbol of Avarice also raised Luck by 99 when equipped, so you can build a regeneration build and actually be able to give some use to the Man-Grub Staff.

After looking at this and the DS1 wiki i have discovered that they made some changes to the Symbol of Avarice compared to the one in the original.
In the original Dark Souls the health drain was 5 instead of 10 and you gained 200 item discovery instead of 100, but they increased the soul gain to 50% instead of 20%

I used an undead hunter charm on the mimic under High Lord Wolnir and got it first try! I am so excited to try it out farming the black knight, but I'm not sure if I can really last that long... Could somebody tell me how to not die when using this? Thanks.

You can still obtain this item even if you have killed ALL mimics and have not acquired the Symbol of Avarice.

I went to the last mimic of my game (in my case, Ringed City). I quit and reload the game. The Symbol of Avarice item spawned where the mimic should have been.

Getting an ending might affect the quit and reload "bug". The Symbol of Avarice did not spawn before I did an ending. After I did an ending, I went back to the mimic spawn point, quit and reload, and the Symbol of Avarice was there.

There is hope!

(In case this may affect anything, I'm playing in PC. I just killed a boss in Ringed City before I did the quit and reload "bug". There is still a boss I have yet to kill in Ringed City.)

After defeating Gael just found one in the Tower (this rounded with twinkle lizard) in Ringed City. Just went there to cach this lizard. So no need to farm this :)
There is no info about that on wiki. Maybe it was because firstly uccidentaly I made Lapp hostile. He was hostile until I defeat the Gael. After that Lapp was friendly and I talked to him and then go to mentioned Tower.

Have a functional question about the charm usage. Do I have to hit the mimic and put it to sleep and do I have to go back to the bonfire and reset, or can I just sweep all charms on the mimic w/o activating the mimic?

For anyone that's killed all the mimics and still no drop, go to the where the mimic with Sunlight Straight Sword drops at lothric Castle, it should eventually be there. You may have to rest at the bonfire to reset the area and check again. I had to rinse and repeat this about 5 times with a discovery of 207 to eventually see it there waiting for me.

Honestly don't understand the amount of comments asking for a trade, unless I am extremely lucky, in both my play-troughs I got them with out farming and with the base 7 luck stat of the Knight, unless people are ignoring or missing some mimics.

After all this time how as someone not made an edit that says if you beat the final boss the last mimic of the 13 you kill will drop it the symbol and if it doesnt you just you just quit the game and resume till it spawns

This took me roughly 120 attempts with Rapier, Base Gold Serpent Ring, 7 Luck and 7 Rusted Gold Coins and however many Rusted Coins, so 307 to 257 item discovery. I'm going to share what I wish I knew at the beginning. First off, and by far most importantly, Mimic positions do NOT reset on using a bonfire. This information is present on the enemy wiki page but is more relevant here. It could have saved a LOT of skeletons from pointlessly pulling themselves together today. Secondly, Mimics "remember" their state prior to being charmed and attacked. If you put it to sleep while it was camouflaged, hitting it will put him back into that state. If he was up and gunning for your asshole when you put him to sleep, he'll wake up all hot and bothered. And lastly, you don't need to wait for the mimic to wake up to use the next charm on him. As soon as you whack him awake, if you throw the charm, he'll immediately fall asleep after the waking up animation completes. This animation is shorter if he was never aggressive towards you. I only learned that it wasn't a guaranteed drop in this playthrough because I got it in the dungeon sewers in my first, ignorant of my dumb luck. Luckily I had missed the one just before smouldering lake on this run. If I knew what I knew now I would aggro the one under the dragon on High Wall, lure it to the nearby bonfire as far from the stairs as possible, charm it, whack it, run away, come back to it once it'd given up the chase, and hope he sat down in the optimal position before I started throwing smoke and slaps at him. So it seems that if you kill all of them and it doesn't drop from the last killed like it's supposed to, you can go check previous locations to potentially find one.

i just cant get this thing apparently. i first kill all the mimic(i lost count actually wasnt my intentions) than i double check every location to be sure i havent left behind the symbol of avarice. -than i get pissed! than i buyed the 2 dlc... i reach the final mimic, try to farm it....didnt work out. the *****ers just give me the ring of evil eye+3. more attempt to put him to sleep produce NO loot at all. during the farming...the *****ing idiot suicide... i realoaded the game multiple times(every body insist that i will find the item just sitting were he previously was) but NOTHING. than i did the Lapp quest line! multiple realoading...still nothing lastly somebody here says i will find it in the lothric casltle!. double cheched again both locations and NO-*****ING-SYMBOL now...im ..really,. really mad.

hi, I just found out that the Symbol of Avarice can actually be found in lothric castle. it will spawn on the floor where the last mimic would sit if you have kill everyone of them in the game. in this link go to the bottom of tips and strategies, the last mimic is considered the one where the black dragon is located.

Doing a run to get all collectibles as a new build and i had to use sage's soul to make a spell so i don't get the discovery buff and the drop rate is killing me. Not to mention i really need it to farm all the other covenant items, was hoping it would be easy to get. I'm running out of coins :(
