"A simple, makeshift torch made from an oily rag wrapped around the end of a stick.
Torches such as these are the easiest way to illuminate one's surroundings, but their use comes at the cost of occupying a hand that would otherwise be free.
Can be used as a rudimentary weapon to inflict fire damage. It possesses no Skill, being an ordinary, basic tool."

Table Key
In DS1 you could use the Sunlight Maggot helmet to generate light, what is the equivalent in DS3?

The Torch is definitely one of the weapons in Dark Souls 3.

well I'll be darned, the torch comment section is free from Pkcs shitposter, Mace santa, AND the broken straight sword memer, This truly must be the best weapon in the game!

the torch helps with ridding the cum those candle dudes in the archives throw on you
There are some dark areas in the game where the torch is nice to have if you can spare the offhand for it, and it's kind of a nice throwback to DS2. Is it optimal? Nah. Fun? Yeah, I think so! I was playing a pure sorcery build and decided I'd use the torch in the offhand. That's when I discovered that it absolutely wrecks dogs. They writhe in helpless agony when you hit them just once with it.

You can also use this to remove the cooldown of when you can apply the frost effect when you hit something with it, though you can also just use any other weapon with fire damage

Honestly, the torch is only useful in the graveyards surrounding the Cathedral of the Deep, others than that, it’s just a meme weapon.

It seems like if you hold up your torch in your offhand while attacking with a one-handed weapon (tested with the broadsword) your stamina recovery starts slightly faster.

don't forget that it reveals the invisible creatures in the ithryill valley!

They could have made some amazing areas that required the torch like ds2. First play through in The Gutter was tense and unforgettable.
- Anonymous
Man, at least in ds2 torch had some use and mechanic sense.. this is just a magic meme stick

Attacking with the torch also puts some enemies (mainly the supraorganism worm-creatures) into a really long "pain" animation, allowing you to stunlock them to death with either just the torch, or more efficiently, alternate between the torch and and your main weapon (L2, R1, L2, R1, etc...).

typical From, telling me that the torch will take up a hand slot, but no mentions about it removing leeches.

don't feel like making an account to add this, but torch removes maggots even if it's not lit (i.e. if you're two-handing your other weapon) so it's really useful to have in cathedral of the deep and irithyll dungeon

I use this and the Warmth pyromancy to cosplay as that random torch hollow from DS2 that follows you around. Then I invade in the Irrythill Dungeon. Be grateful, hosts.
- Anonymous
i like to invade with only a torch and just lead the host where they need to go. makes me feel like a tour guide

I wish they made the torch more useful by having more dark areas and special things ala Dark Souls 2. The torch seems pretty useless and basically a maggot killer and meme weapon at this point.

Useful for stopping maggots and killing flesh blobs, not much else though, other than adding realism or for making meme builds.

The torch should help you against frost too. Why didn't From think of this?

One-handed pike attacks are extremely slow. However, if you hold L1 with the torch on the offhand, pike R1s become godly fast... even faster than the regular spear.

If you Finish the game on ng++7 with 1% health torch only you will become a lord of cinder

In-game, the torch is under the Shield category, not the Weapon category.
- Anonymous
I heard a rumor that upgrading it increases brightness. Is this true?
- Anonymous
I believe that having the torch equipped while frostbitten will decrease the duration of the effect. This needs to be tested, of course.

Using the torch when afflicted by blood loss accumulation from the maggots in the Cathedral of the Deep will destroy the maggots on you, stopping blood loss accumulation
LET THERE BE LIGHT!
