Witch's Locks is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.



A whip fashioned from the black hair of a daughter of the Witch of Izalith, creator of the Flame of Chaos.

The long, shining locks woven together to create this whip are imbued with the essence of fire, which can be channeled through the use of its skill. 

Skill: Flame Whip
Temporarily coat the whip in fire, the self-same fire as that which consumed the Witch herself, it is said.



Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed. 
  • Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
  • Like all the other whips, it cannot be parried but also cannot riposte, backstab, or plunge attack.
  • Like all whips it cannot be deflected off shields, walls, or buffed players. This allows for it to attack through walls.
  • Its innate fire damage and Weapon Art make it a good weapon for Pyromancers.

 

 

Location/Where to Find

  • Found inside a chest in a secret room behind a bookcase in Grand Archives. There is a lever you must pull in the same room (it is the very dark room after the first spot where you can dip your head in wax).

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X". 
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped. 
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

      I enjoyed this on my Pyro/Dark build. I see it largely more as a sidearm to switch to than anything, it’s got nice range and a cool weapon art, but you want to be relying on something more swingy, like the demon scar or a chaos infused weapon as your main.

        Revising DS3 after (finally) getting burned out on Elden Ring, and I decided to give this a whirl on a Pyro build. To absolutely no one's surprise... It's a PvP weapon first. The WA is neat but that attack speed, it isn't great. You can make it work, but Dark/Chaos infusing a weapon is definitely the way to go if you want a melee option.

          You can you Witch's Locks and Whip with Frozen Weapon on SL1 with Hunters, Priestess, Scholars, and Carthus Milkring.
          witches locks resets frozen whip that procs quite fast, and with the range of whips makes this very viable.

            1H your whip most of the time. 1H R2 has absurd reach. It will either make your target roll out, where you are safe and can try to R2 them again, or in, at which point you have a prediction to make. If they roll attack, you can easily parry with an offhand caestus / shield. Otherwise, you can quickly 2H and WA. If you hit one WA you can probably hit another.

                For those experiencing trouble with quickstep users, the WA of this thing is a good answer. I usually keep it as my third weapon, and it also helps to finish people off and catch them off guard from distance. Cool weapon.

                  The weapon art on this thing is absolutely lethal in PVP. Really good secondary/side weapon choice for pyro builds.

                    the witch's locks are probably the best weapon in the game, it has the best weapon art and it stun locks so you cant do anything and when you reach soul level 330 or 340 it does at least 500 to 600 damage up close and it does like 200 when you hit them with the end of the whip

                      I'm just a pve scrub but something I've noticed is how slow this weapon attacks are. Due to the wind up animation the attack intervals are similar to that of an ultra greatsword. I was just testing it un-upgraded against the lesser lothric knights outside of dancer boss room. I cannot even manage to combo two attacks together without getting hit. It has good scaling for pyro (which I am) but oh boy it's dreadfully slow and no hyper-armour to back that up with.

                        Anyone got any good recommendations for an offhand weapon to use in combination with the witch's locks on a pyro/dex build? planning on getting 40 dex and 40 int/faith but i just don't know which weapon to use in my left hand in combination with pyromancer's parting flame

                          This weapon makes undead matches a joke. The reach, roll catching L2s, and it’s fire damage make pvp way to easy and almost boring. If you want easy wins in duels and fight clubs this is the way to go.

                            um, question, why is quelaag's hair just in the grand archives? instead of a more fitting place like the demon ruins? (actually now that i think about it i'm kinda glad this isn't there, f*ck the demon ruins)

                                        My second favorite weapon. Second just because I've had a good NG+1-8 play through with my all time favorite weapon the Black Knight Greataxe.

                                          I’d strongly reccomend this for any pyromancer. Sure it takes a bit of investment in Dexterity, but B/B scaling in int/faith, good reach, and the fact that whips don’t ricochet make this a solid weapon. Even more so for PVP, itonically because nobody uses whips in pvp. Weakness, however, is UGS. Greathammers, normal GS, and Greathammers can be worked around with careful spacing, but UGS have enough range and poise to pose a serious threat.

                                              This weapons has been a wonderful asset to my mage build. The WA is so nice in so many ways! It clips right through most shields, it does nice damage, it can attack through 6 feet of solid stone, has maybe the best range of any non-projectile, AND it's attacks have a rhythm that most players aren't use to, making it difficult to dodge. All around a great weapon!

                                                  Fun fact, all whips (excluding father's flail) can clip through walls, allowing you to smack almost all enemies through the safety of a wall. (Be warned, as most of you all are aware, almost all enemy attacks can clip through walls.) So whips are kinda like equaling the playing field?

                                                    One of the only whips that could of been a Duel wield. Like Sister F's Duel scythe could of split a part or used the hair of the fair lady for the second whip. Also weapon art could of been a hold where it sets you on fire like the original discription/ ds2 immoation and gives you the chance to attack with two whips as you burn yourself and others who try to get close.

                                                        In PvP, if my opponent is a blocker, the special goes through it and does the damage. If I am near death, this weapon nearly always saves me. If I am dealing with a healer, the special spam will punish that fool, if you can't get close to your opponent then use this whip, if your build involves fire damage at all then you will do well with this weapon.

                                                          I had so much fun using this weapon, one handed R2 has a HUGE hitbox and catches people easily in Rolls. Since this game wants you to go Pyromancer (From PVE perspective) this weapon does a lot of damage against bosses as-well If you wanna wip it, wip with this baby.

                                                            On my 2nd character I tried rushing to this item after killing the old demon king, I killed the person that had to be killed and 2 bosses that blocked my way to the Grand Archives, BUT you can only go in there if you killed all 3 previous lords.I did not know that, on my first playthrough I literally looked at the keys and thought 'what's the point of the key right in front of the locked door?'So yeah, that's the point.So no, you can't get these early in the game without trading, which is a shame.

                                                                My SL120 Pyro is approaching 170 hours, this weapon has cause at least 10 people to Black Crystal out on me in duels lol. No hatemail though. :( Witches Locks 4 Life.

                                                                  This weapon especially its L2 and full charged R2 does crazy damage. It starts of strong as hell and its scaling completely whrecks every other native int or faith scaling weapons. I mean the other whips hit like kittens so its a suprise for this to be so ***** strong. It also has crazy range. It just suffers from the whip weaknesses(no riposte,no backstab,poor trading)

                                                                          Seems like the only decent Whip if you have the build for it. The moveset on all the whips is sadly nowhere near as good as DKS2.

                                                                          • Its very viable as a main weapon on a Pyromancer build (might as well since it can't be buffed). With its low stat requirements, but very high solid Int and Faith scaling it hits very hard with a 30/30, 40/40, or 30/50 etc etc Int/Fth build.I think the moveset is okay, although not nearly as reliable and amazing as the Whip Cane in Bloodborne (god I miss it so much already.), it does have good range and a surprisingly accurate rolling attack. The weapon art is quite fun and actually very damaging on this weapon in particular with a Pyro build, often netting you your biggest burst. Its a defensive weapon where you gotta utilize its range so you can't get careless but it has options.If you just have to make a Belmont build this is definitely the weapon to do it with, and the high Fth and Int gives you the benefit of a plethora of spells to use as well.

If you like the moveset that is, just beware that the second light attack is pretty slow, many enemies that you can stunlock wiht other weapons will get a hit in before you can hit them (the ***** Lothric Knights for example).

                                                                                  anyone tried seeing how much damage this thing is capable of with base str/dex and 40 int/faith? curious on how good it would be for a pure fire mage build. Judging from the scaling it shouldn't be that bad.
