Bruh Convenant reward is ****, it's so hard to get that wolf blood something
      1. It's rarely called to invade
      2. Once I got a call to invade the host bring 4 white phantom with him

The resistances apply even if you fail requeriments. It goes well for a low SL Bloodlust build, by just two-handing the katana and having this shield on your back. It prevents the WA from reaching bleed.

I love weaponskill shields. And of the only three greatshields that have it, this is the sexiest of the three. And come on. Its Atorias shield. How can you go wrong

Played this game for two years with multiple NG+s and replays, but never knew this thing existed in the game til I saw a comment about it on reddit. Now I have a new goal.

            • Anonymous

Now for an almost unrelated story except for the fact that I was trying to get this shield.
Now I was invading tryng to farm the damned sword grass, I spent around 3 hours on it because it was a slow day and I'm bad, so here I am, with 29 out of 30, I invade and almost die to a gank, I then proceed to run away towards my crabbos friends so I'm on an attrition battle where I'll probably lose, 30 seconds later I'm basically dead but the host is low on HP, there's this small problem for me where a chaos bed vestige is flying towards me, in a final attempt for that swordgrass I shoot my trusty(Not trusty at ****ing all, never hit **** ever with it) knight crossbow and shoot it at the host, and as a Christmas miracle the host tryng to drink some estus but he didn't have it or something, so his character started shaking the flask, the important part is that it made him stand still, still enough for my trusty untrusty knight's crossbow to hit him while I'm bussy dying, anyway this didn't happen anytime near Christmas so it wasn't a Christmas miracle and I still didn't get the swordgrass.

But I still think about that today about 1 and a half years later and I still think it's cool.

              • Anonymous

                Best way to get this?
Cheat: Go offline, put on cheat engine (max loot), go to bonfire in swamp, farm the poison spear guys for wolf grass.
Doesn't take more than 5 minutes.

Great for fashion, it does its job for general use pve. Will want to switch out to black iron greatshield for certain bosses like midir though.

                  • Pure garbage compared to the DS1 original. 71 stability when fully upgraded, as opposed to 88 stability, unupgraded. It's also a sh*tty covenant item that costs 30 sword grass.

                    • Anonymous

I dunno, you only get two more stability than the Black Knight Shield, for 11 weight compared to 7.5, and much less fire res, way higher stat requirements and way harder to get... I think if you want to go a greatshield, go all the way and use Yhorm's or GOG, otherwise Lothric Knight Shield and Black Knight Shield I think are far superior... this shield is very cool though!

                      • Anonymous

Most OP shield, been my favourite since. Artorias set+his sword+this shield and you dont have to worry about Midir's or The Storm King's fire anymore. Just L1 and charge your way through victory

Best way to nab this big doggo shield? Do the invasions! I know it’s tough for some but hear me out. If you’re past lvl 30 and you really want it, make a new character. I suggest starting as knight, never upgrading ANY weapon past +2 (+1 for weapons upgraded with special components) and making a vigor based build focusing on getting the minimum req for whatever weapon you like best for pvp and then raw infusing that’s weapon. Here’s a few good beginner pvp weapons if you don’t have a preference; Claymore, Hollow-Slayer Greatsword, large club, zweheinder, spiked mace. Now you rush to get the covenant, equip, and then play through the game as normal. Because the watchdogs DO NOT require you to be in the area to be summoned, you can play through the game and still be summoned to invade for swordgrass. Just remember the basics rules of lvl 30, only +2 reinforcement (+1 for special weapons) and you will be summoned rather frequently. I hope this helps!

for those who prefer to invade as defender.... just dont, unless you are 100% sure you can take 2-3 ppl at once, as its mostly fight clubs and gank squads. on the bright side, farming ghrus is a lot quicker way to farm grass and at the same time you'll be denying gankers their prey, so they can farm covenant for days and weeks instead ^^

wouldve been cool if weapon art was a small forcefield that probably cured ailments and maybe health regen or smth but you cant move when you use it and the forcefield doesnt block 100% of damage

Just farm invasions for a bit i got like 10 swordgrass in an hour, plus you can hone your pvp skills and its a lot more fun then killing the same enemy for 3 hours straight

                                • Anonymous

If you run Helm of Avarice from Keep Ruins on those Ghrus and join covenant, you can get it quick. I pvp'd a little and I'm a casul, got a guy with havel's shield, gael's greatsword, vilhelm gear and mashed him with a great mace. It took like an hour and a half. If you pop a coin and then do runs and occasionally pvp you can do it! The shield absolutely rocks! Remember your shield matters ALOT more than armor/poise etc.

Took me about 6 hours to get 30 of the materials (I only had the Crystal Sage Rapier and 4 item discovery boost coins). I think I slayed a total of 800 Ghurus or something in the process. I hope I made the right choice...

                                    • Took so long to farm but it was worth it. Best place to farm is at the Keep Ruins bonfire. Kill the 3 Ghuru (be sure to have the gold covenant serpent ring, symbol of avarice, and off hand the crystal sage rapier for the most item discovery besides investing points into luck) until you have 30 wolf blood sword grass. It's a rare drop from them. Also be sure to use pyromancy/fire damage as that's what the ghuru are weak to. Hope this helps! :)

Can someone trade me this shield on PC ? With the full farm build (Chest, +3 ring, 2 rapiers and regular Rusty/Golden Coins) I got only 6 leafs on the swamp in 1 hour + for all that time I was in the Farron covenant and got no auto-invasions. Im really tired and just won't take 4 more hours of this. Maybe you don't have the DLCs and I can give you some boss weapons or something. Steam:

I don't get why people think artorias was left handed if he were left handed why would his left arm be shattered from blocking with the shield and in his art work he carried his sword in his right hand and people wrongfully assumed before the dlc came out that the knight on the cover of DS1 was artorias also its likely that this is a replica not the original and that it is only a symbol of rank in the watchdogs of farron covenant like a ceremonial saber in the military and just like those it is capable of being used and being better than other more cheaply made weapons but it is not as good as the true masterfully made weapons they were based off of as most weapons are now-a-days

If anyone wants to trade me this shield, I'd be happy trading for a boos soul or smth (i know thats still not great but...) If not does anyone have a good way of farming the swordgrass?

                                              • Anonymous

I always wondered if this is the actual shield, we know what happened to the original which was heavily damaged and corrupted (Cleansing shield from DS1) so i wonder why this one seems completely fine with no marks at all, so i think this might be a replica of sort or somehow it was repaired and cleaned from the corruption of the abyss (if thats even possible)

                                                • Anonymous

If you don’t want to farm shield just stay SL 25 or lower and Enter watchdogs of farron. Killing players is the best way 2 get it.

A full physical shield weapon art shield, with status resistance across the board and decent weight to boot? It's basically a Black Knight Shield for people with extra vitality. Sign me up!

It's worthy to note that nine times out of ten, using this with the Farron GS will benefit your mindgames extremely, because no one expects a parry from a greatshield.

                                                    • Anonymous

The great thing about this shield is its low weight and status effect resistances. It also looks pretty awesome. The stability is really quite good as well.

I can't believe some people think this shield belongs to the Abyss Watchers/Watchdogs of Farron. That's just fuckin' depressing.

Long story: This Shield was not wielded by any Abysswatcher's or any Watchdog of Farron. In Fact this shield belonged to a legendary warrior of the first Kingdom (Lordran) of the Dark Souls Series, Artorias The Abysswalker. Artorias the Abysswalker was one of the Four Knights of Gwyn (King of Lordran), as his unbreakable resolve furthered his hatred of the Dark, Specifically Darkwraiths of Kaathe. He earned the Title 'Abysswalker' due to the ability of his ring allowing him to enter and hunt down Darkwraiths. However when he heard of Oolacile being attacked by the Abyss created by the Father of the Abyss, Manus. In an effort to save the Princess of Oolacile he and his partner Sif the Greywolf made a stand against Manus, which they unfortunately lost. In a act of selflessness Artorias Jumps in front of Sif with his great shield Protecting his companion from the Abyss at the Cost of his own Sanity.
His Legacy had continued as by the rise of Lothric, The Undead Legion of Farron (Abysswathers), partook of wolf blood and it was rumored their souls were bound to the wolf blood master. Even further the fighting style and weapons of the Abysswatchers were created after his own and fought in erratic and wild styles similar to Artorias the Abysswalker's own.

Short: Artorias the Abysswalker (Wolf Knight in this case, due to Dark Souls 3), wielded the shield not a Abysswatcher of Farron. The Watchdogs of Farron follow his original legacy, by Pursuing the Abyss. It was rumored that unlike normal Knights, Artorias wielded his blade in his shield arm (Left Arm).

                                                              • Anonymous

Hmm... Curious that a “master of the wolf’s blood of Farron” would ever consider wielding a shield at all, let alone having one named in his likeness. We all know what happened to Hawkwood regarding this very thing, so...

Would anyone care to explain how this came to be, or is this just a lapse in loremastering?

                                                                • Anonymous

They really didn't pay attention to divine protection of this shield against dark damage. In the first Dark Souls, this shield protected Sif from the endless darkness of the abyss. But now it only deflects 68% of the damage dealt by dark. It should have been around 90% or more. Wouldn't you agree?

                                                                  • Anonymous

All this hate for the lack of parry and here I am, wondering why nobody has pointed out that pairing it with the Farron Greatsword solves that problem pretty neatly

                                                                    • Anonymous

So this shield basically is only useful against Friede and is pretty crap otherwise. Even the OWCS which you get by the same faction is better offhanded, since you can easily procc it even with a SS in a bossfight. It would have been great with a parry, or something actually usefull. Hell, even shieldbash seems better because you just have better options for a WA shield.

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

People its not that hard, just dedicate some tiny bits of hours on this and you'll get it. I mean, Ds3 got hundreds of hours of pleasure, I think you can offer TWO of those hundred for a shield. Farron ruin bonefire, 3 gru, kill, back to fire, kill, repeat.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

If you have a PS4 and want to trade message me with a screenshot of the item in your inventory. My PSN is dragonluke01 (not accepting friend requests)

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

while not as godly as it's prior incarnation, this shield is still a force to be reckoned with it's ultra light weight for a greatshield without sacrificing any physical absorption, it may lack special perks you get with say havel's or the moaning shield, but this weapon perfectly complements the Wolfknight gs variants, darkswords, katanas, and most other light weapons.definitely worth getting if you feel like you need a good shield without sacrificing too much defence for weight
