Yhorm's Greatshield is a Shield in Dark Souls 3.

Greatshield used long ago by Yhorm the Giant. Increases the user's poise.

As a lord, Yhorm risked everything and fought unflinchingly as a one-man vanguard. Following the loss of the one he wished to protect, he forsook his shield.

Skill: Shield Bash
Without lowering your guard, strike the enemy with the shield to knock them back or stagger them. Works while equipped in either hand..

Notes and Tips:

  • Can NOT be Infused but can be Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite Scales.
  • Increase Poise by 15.
  • Since Poise now suffers from diminishing returns, it's recommended use wear lower armor when using this shield to get the maximum amount of Poise.
  • Provides an average block of 77.4%. Boasts solid all-around stats and blocking, Yhorm's is a potent greatshield for its weight and requirements.

This combined with Lothric Knight Spear and Wolf Ring +3 will punish a ton of gimmick builds. You’ve got a ton of Stability and lots more poise than your opponent. You have lots of options you can two hand the spear when you need to chase someone down .You can use it from behind the shield, shield crash is often a huge surprise

Had a guy in fight club one time spend like 5 minutes telling me to unequip this shield before fighting him. Was very annoyed with the idea of spending so much time trying to invalidate someone else's build, (that isn't even meta I dumped so many points into vitality just to hold the damn thing with an ultra) so I swapped to the twin greatshields.

poise does not "suffer diminishing returns" to the point that you wouldn't want to wear this with heavy armor... jesus do the people who write these things even play the game, let alone read the official guide? use the god damn poise calculator to determine how much poise you need, then use this like any other item that increases poise... to reach the desired breakpoint

          • Anonymous

Don't underestimate the additional poise granted by this shield. If you have the vitality and strength necessary to actually use this thing, you're probably also using a weapon that can really benefit from what it does for your poise.

              im on my current NG++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
and i have noticed poise works exceptionally well

When buffed with great magic shield you can block basically anything with no health or stamina drain at all. I tried some pvp with it and was amused by a summon railing against my buffed Yhorm's shield trying to break my guard as I think to myself: screw your puny battle axe.

                • Update 1.08
                  Basepoise 15
                  With Wolf Ring 18,4 /// Wolf+1 20,1 /// Wolf+2 21,8 ///
                  With Lothric Speer 20,1 /// Speer + Wolf 23,3 /// Speer + Wolf+1 24,89 /// Speer + Wolf+2 26,49 ///
                  With Havel Armor Set 57,63 /// Havel + Wolf Ring 59,32 /// Havel + Wolf+1 60,17 /// Havel + Wolf+2 61.02 /// Havel + Speer 60,17 ///
                  Havel + Speer + Wolf Ring 61,76 /// Havel + Speer + Wolf+1 62,56 /// Havel + Speer + Wolf+2 63,35

                  • The only real bonus other than the poise is the 100% block rating. In other words, the only real bonus is the 100% block rating. In other words, chose the kite shield instead if you don't feel like carrying a useless hunk of butthurt metal that will add 800% on your weight load

                    • Starting a machete/greatshield build, I'm wondering which one to take in NG from Yhorm's soul. Does the poise bonus of the shield work when you have it on your back ? Two-handed hyperarmor with some poise on the regular great machete is pretty ***** good, it would definitely be a point to get the greatshield first if this works like shield of want effect...

Does stability reduce the % of stamina?Meaning an enemy hits with 120 stamina 50Stability makes it 60 Stamina loss?

                        • Anonymous

Speculation (that's what you do with ds lore amirite?): there's little information on yhorm so let's assume From wants us to make connections. Yhorm is visually similar to the ds2 giants (as opposed to the other "native" giants and his shield mentions he's a vanguard. Therefore I speculate yhorm was the vanguard in the war on drangleic and the lost one the shield references is possibly the giant king.

The increase would make me use this shield almost exclusively if it wasn't for poise doing literally nothing as of now. It makes heavier weapons and armor near pointless as you tend to get stun locked before you can even get that first swing finished which is something your high poise from your armor is supposed to prevent.

                            • Anonymous

I have equipped Yhorm's Greatshield before and my poise went from 14.88 to 74.88, implying a 60 poise increase... Either A) it differs from PC and console, B) I have an unknown character affect, C) the article is wrong, or D) it's a bug.I am not sure but I think that it's supposed to be 60. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It doesn't increase poise by a flat amount, it has weird scaling and poise appears to have diminishing returns. With no armour on it increases poise by 45, but (initially says it will increase it by 69.75.)With no armour and Wolf Ring +1 it increases poise from 17.50 to 54.62, an increase of about 37 (initially saying it will increase it to 75.04)With full Artorias/Wolf Knight armour and Wolf Knight Ring +1 it increase poise from 31.62 to 62.39, an increase of 31. (initially saying it will increase to 79.31)Without the ring, Yhorm's shield increases poise from 17.11 to 54.41 an increase of about 37. (initially saying it will increase to 74.93)At 0 poise you get 45, but as your poise increases that amount goes down. Before equipping it might be bugged as it never shows how much poise you will actually have and is much greater than 45, or whatever bonus you do get.

I know poise isn't /as/ effective as it used to be in DaS 1, but 35 free poise just for equipping a greatshield? Furthermore it doesn't necessarily seem like that much of a downgrade compared to Havel's shield, unless you take its skill into consideration.

This almost doubles my poise compared to havels and im not sure why im at 63 poise with it on and 32 with havels on

                                    • Anonymous

Greatshield of Glory is a regular drop shield, how come it is way better than this? it has higher stability and then it also less weight. both need 40 Str to equip

Small theory that the two, at least, may be related, as well as the last giant. There needs to be some more context on this, as there are theories that Vendrick stole a lordvessel from them, or kidnapped one of their own, prompting the invasion in the memories of DS2.
