Armor of Thorns Set is an Armor in Dark Souls 3.
(Piece name) of Kirk, the notorious knight of Thorns. A dense patch of thorns grows from its surface.
A fitting item for the murderous Kirk, for even the simple act of rolling can damage enemies when wearing this attire.
Location/Where to Find
- Found on a body by Rosaria's Bed Chamber.
- You have to have been invaded by and vanquished Kirk on the ground floor of the Cathedral.
- Do not defeat Deacons of the Deep before trying to obtain this armor. Kirk will not invade afterwards.
Notes and Tips
- Wearing any piece of this armor set causes your rolling and Quickstepping to do 2 damage. On top of that, wearing additional pieces causes the damage to stack. For example, equipping two pieces will do 4 damage per roll and equipping all pieces will do 8 damage per roll.
- Any piece of this set deals Standard Damage.
- Damage to enemies and NPCs by falling on them is amplified by each piece of this set.
- The leg piece of this set slightly increases the damage of kicking and the Tackle crossbow skill.
- Useful for finishing low health enemies, or players with Tears of Denial.
- Regardless of stats, no piece, nor combination of pieces will cause bleed damage.
- Enemies that would normally stagger from rolling into them do not stagger while wearing this set.
- The following is a tested list of items that do increase rolling damage: Red Tearstone Ring, Power Within, Morion Blade.
- The following is a tested list of items that do not increase rolling damage: Flynn's Ring, Lloyd's Sword Ring, Pontiff's Right Eye ring (The armor set also does not activate Pontiff's Right Eye), Spiked Shield.
- The amount of damage done varies based on enemy type, as well as armor. Tested on NG+7, at High Wall, unarmored enemies were taking 15 damage. While they don't stun in the traditional way while rolling into them, after enough rolls the enemy will in fact stun. This stun is similar to getting enough hits on Iudex Gundyr, where they stop moving temporarily, and take extra damage for a short time. Unarmored enemies will go as high as 21 damage per roll in this situation. It was taking on average 38 rolls to kill the standard hollows. The knight in High Wall was taking 8 to 9 damage per roll. Multiple enemies can be damaged per roll, assuming they are close together.

Red tearstone+dual morion blade+ carthus bloodring + miklring+ fastroll = ultra pvp baller

There is a bug with this armor set. If you are two handing a weapon that you don't have the strength to one-hand, and roll into certain enemies, like Giant Crabs, Black Knights, or the Old Demon King, it count as an attack deflection and you'll be left vulnerable.
I was two-handing the Fume Knight Ultragreatsword at low levels and using the Headpiece and noticed it. Not sure how extensive this. Will need to test more.

You would think wearing this would make you an edgelord, but honestly i think this armor is guite low on that scale, it's just spiky. I think it just looks cool.

I noticed when I was fighting the ice crabs at Ariandel, I wasn't able to dodge their attacks at all with this armor. I think it's because the rolling counts as an attack, so they were technically hitting me with a counter attack?? It would only make the counter attack noise when they spat their ice breath at me though (which also hit through the roll and would infinitely stagger me)

Having just one piece of this set makes Tears of Denial users seethe, especially when combined with quickstep.
10/10, would recommend equipping either the Leggings or Gauntlets.

remember to take these off in the undead settlement, since rolling with these doesnt stagger the farmers

anyone else notice how if you roll into an enemy with a shield it staggers your roll, is it tied to the weapon your using? because i rolled into lorian and my roll was deflected, and it killed me, anything on this? (this is on sl1 as well, using dragonslayer axe with knight and hunters ring)

Once again this info is outdated: The armor does indeed benefit from Loyds Sword Ring.

Something is of with the slash resistance. Please compare the single parts with the complete set.

Does anyone know of another helmet that’s goes good with this set?
- Anonymous
the best part about this armor is that when enemies launch you with a strong attack, your body can still damage them as it's being launched
- Anonymous
Nowhere on this page does it mention the weird stagger animation you get while rolling into the Old Demon King.

I'm using Armor and Gauntles. I just faced a mimic. She grabbed me to bite and swallow, but let go at the same instant that she was going to take the first bite without causing any harm. It was a bug or the pieces of that armor prevent this mimic attack.
- Anonymous
Maybe it's just me, but when doing PvE and forgetting to swap off the gauntlets (or any part of the set for that matter), aggressive enemies and bosses tend to attack more often due to the 1 damage they're constantly getting. Maybe they count it as an attack, and are subsequently more aggressive to match. If you feel like you're getting bad RNG from a pontiff knight or the NK, maybe swap the thorns out?

so do you need to not kill kirk? i got him to kill me then i killed him and made it to rosaria's and it wasn't there (didn't kill deacons BTW)

I hate when pvp'ers use this armor and just keep rolling into you as a substitute for actually fighting.
- Anonymous
I've been playing ds3 since it came out. With my new character it's glitched out and the armor won't spawn. I use these gauntlets on every melee PvP build I have so i know I'm not doing anything wrong. Would there happen to be a good Samaritan willing to donate some dandy handy's to yours truly?

First time i played any DS game, i missed a lot of items and events like this armor. I should be careful when i begin the next NG+ cycle
Someone here said that using gauntlets makes your roll deflect against bigger enemies. It's only partially true, as the case is a lot different, so I'll explain how it works. Wearing ANY part of the set when trying to roll into larger enemies will cause it to be deflected/bounced ( you can wear even leggings or helmet and it will happen ) but ONLY if you do not meet at least one single requirement on your weapon, including strength to one-hand, even if you can two-hand, or not enough faith/int/dex. Also the case seems to happen whether you wield them in right or left hand, except for bows and crossbows, when used on the latter. The effect itself happens when rolling next to most bigger enemies, including Millwood Knights, Giant Slaves, Gargoyles, Giant Crabs, Pontiff Beasts and some other. It also happens in case many bosses that are at least a few times bigger than character, starting from Pontiff.

the gauntlets of thorns go good with any chest piece I swear.
- Anonymous
helmet looks like Amygdalas head...or the other way around.
- Anonymous
I've only experienced this while wearing the gauntlets, and no other part of the set, that you will have a deflection animation like you do when hitting a solid wall with most weapons while rolling into enemies with hard skin such as the demons and the demon king in the base game as well as the giant in the irithyl dungeon. There are probably more enemies that have this effect but i can't name them off the top of my head. I feel like limit breakers over here with this useless info
- Anonymous
this site is way to full with people whining about how to start with a new char and 1h of game time is too much to optain this set. I mean I could understand if this is about the cat ring, morion blade or dragonslayer axe...but the thorn set? really?
- Anonymous
I think it's about dang time we had a more comprehensive list of rings that affect this armor and whether this armor stacks with or affects other items/playstyles/mechanics.... Is this the only armor in the game with special effects?
I feel it's worth mentioning that this armor raises the damage you do when you fall on enemies. While naked falling on the firekeeper did 5 damage, but with the full armor it did 67, occasionally hitting again when I landed, doing a total of 97 damage. From a higher fall point it did 2 instances of 67 totalling at 134.
- Anonymous
Try to fight dragonslayer armor in rinfed city wearing this and see the magic lmao
Just equip the gauntles for the damage for the random stagger and panic rolls it will cause
- Anonymous
Armor of thorns. Dual morion blades. Red tearstone ring.
Rolling into someone with full Havels deals 240 damage.

I love it when people tell me to get it myself if I say I missed it. ***** I'd love to get it myself but THE ARMOR IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE IN MY GAME AND IM NOT MAKING A WHOLE NEW CHARACTER FOR THIS CRAPPY GEAR
- Anonymous
Person 1: Can you trade me this armor? Missed it and killed boss, GT: (Insert GT)
Person 2: No, get it yourself
Me: JUST DON'T RESPOND IF YOU'RE NOT GONNA GIVE THEM THE ARMOUR PEOPLE ASK TO TRADE ALL THE TIME BUTT OUT

I got this After beating game don't know if it's a glitch or I didn't notice earlier In The playthrough but was waiting there when I went to respec after soul of cinder lord of hollows ending. I will just sit down when others show up in pvp with this set on and let them roll me to death because ***** them. Or lure them to a cliff or bridge and then let them roll around as much as they want.
- Anonymous
I killed Kirk then I killed deacon but the armor is not there
- Anonymous
People seriously need to stop leaving comments like "get it yourself" when someone asks for a piece of armor or weapon to be traded to them... i see it so much on this page. If you don't intend on giving them the gear then don't message, period, it is not any of your business at that point. If your argument is that they should play the game to get it, they ARE playing the game, trading is a part of almost any online game and i don't know why it's frowned upon in dark souls... Stop being like that people, you're making a conscious decision to be mean for no reason, its ridiculous.
- Anonymous
If you connect to NPCs or players when rolling you'll be no longer immune to damage.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Why doesn't Kirk's armor have slight bleed buildup? The blurb about the sword and shield both say that the thorns are the reason these weapons have innate bleed. Lore-wise, it doesn't make sense for the thorn-covered armor to not cause bleed when everything else with thorns does, even if it weren't much, like 5 per piece.
- Anonymous
As a noob, I am not sure how to quite explain this, but if you imagine this armor having "special powers", which is its unique rolling, are there any other armors in the game with "special powers"? Like wearing them gives you something more than just plain protection from attacks.
- Anonymous

so if you get killed then kill him you'll still get the armour?

This is why I should stop trying to kill the boss as soon as I can... *Cries*

anyone know why it didn't coms out after the DLC version , is that need to completed the DLC first ?
I was ember mode and the boss didn't kill yet , just com down to the follor but hr didn't shows up .........

So I've noticed that the effect of this armor is similar to a very light attack. That means that against some heavy armor there is a chance that you cannot roll directly past the enemy. I've noticed this especially with cathedral knights. Attempting to roll past the enemy will be like attacking a heavy shield with a knife or another light weapon; it just bounces off. This can be detrimental because it interrupts the dodge you are trying to make. I've literally bounced off a cathedral knight twice and then got killed because I was expecting to not be in the line of attack. On the other hand, this armor deals a small amount of poise damage. Rolling past an enemy that is near stunlock can actually stunlock them and open up a ripost attack opportunity. Giver a try

Have done all the steps to get the armor Kill The Invader Kirk did not kill the boss went up to the bedchamber room still have found no body with armor on it been back several times don't know what I'm doing wrong
- Anonymous
I just tested it with many rings and below 30% equip load.... flynns ring and lloyds sword ring did nothing to the damage with all 4 thorn armor parts equipped. it still remained 25 damage per roll on the hollow enemies!

does damaging an enemy with this armor keep the counter running for things like the pontiff rings?
- Anonymous
I killed Kirk, but his armor didn't show up.There is a friendly maggot man in the room now though. And the bonfire can't be used.
- Anonymous
I didn't quite understand the npc invader system so I won't be getting this armor until NG+. One of my favorite sets too.

- Anonymous
I have killed kirk but the armor won't spawn at the chamber.Any requirements??
- Anonymous
I would say the gauntlets are the best gauntlets in the game just to proc the 2 roll dmg for a small stun. The rest of the armor should be replaced with better defense though.

i never got invaded? and i didn't get invited by the guy in the forrest but his drops appeared by killing a slug guy by rosaria. is there any way of getting this again?
- Anonymous
This set is hilarious, just roll and hit someone over and over again. Imagine combining it with the carthus blood and milk rings .
- Anonymous
when you roll into "big" enemies like giants or cathedral knights ( i have tested these 2 ) u get staggered urself. probably bug
- Anonymous
So I killed him and I have his sword to prob it but I can't find the armor anywhere
Can someone test for me if using quickstep while wearing this armor does damage as if rolling? I cant get it (beaten the boss before being invaded by him) and cant test it. Thank you.
I just happened to kill the invader and found his armor at Rosaria’s during my SL1 play through. Didn’t think much of it but I’m so glad I picked it up! I think it helped stack bleed damage with my Reinforced Club. Good for bleed-susceptible bosses to whom you keep close proximity like Oceiros and the Demon Prince.
