Arstor's Spear is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

One of the curses that festered within the belly of the Greatwood, and a terrible weapon favored by Earl Arstor the Impaler.

The spear is enwreathed in rotten, heavily poisonous meat. Defeating foes restores HP.

Skill: Shield Splitter

Take a large step forward and make a single focused thrust to puncture enemy shields and inflict damage.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite Scales.
  • While equiped Arstor's Spear will cause the wielder to receive 30HP whenever an enemy dies. This happens regardless of whether or not the player is present for the killing.
  • Stacks additively with Ring of the Evil Eye allowing for upwards of 60HP per kill - effective against large groups of weaker enemies including Deacons of the Deep.
  • Most likely belonged to Sir Arstor of Carim, mentioned in Dark Souls 1's Bloodbite Ring, Cursebite Ring, and Poisonbite Ring description. Is also credited for creating Purging Stones, and the Shotel.

Just use rotten gru's lol. Maybe this could conceivably be useful for SOME pve things(?) Don't waste your time with this on pvp though. Rotten Gru's has a better weapon art, deals more damage no matter what infusion path you take, and can be buffed. MAYBE this one is a few pixels longer or something, but overall, this is just outclassed by Rotten Gru's

Very good spear for Invaders, The poison is soooo good. You have to play aggressive like crazy though, or you might never proc it. Oh, and everytime the host and phantoms kill an enemy in the level, you regain 30 HP which stacks with evil eye ring. Use that information how you want.

        • Anonymous

Something those who don't play DS1 might not notice:
Earl Arstor is from Carim. In fact, Arstor has a lot of ties to curses and statuses in general.
He's the one that commissioned the Bite rings be made, and the Purging Stones of DS1 that take curses off the player are Arstor's secret treasures.
From the way he's talked about, he's alive during the events of DS1, and so the fact his name lasted for so long into DS3 is crazy.

It seems he was a knight at some point before becoming the Earl, as in DS1's bite rings' descriptions it calls him "Sir Arstor of Carim". Then he evidently became the Earl, and began creating and secretly keeping Purging Stones. After the events of DS1, he picked up this spear and went on a mad rampage, earning the name "Earl Arstor the Impaler".

Arstor's Spear is secretly amazing for lower level invasions, just don't tell anyone. I have a low level Fetid / Poison Knight build who uses Arstors Spear, Executioners Greatsword, and Ring of the Evil eye +3 in one of the loadouts for HP/FP Regen. I taunt hosts and phantoms chase to me throughout the stage and whittle them down with poison and pokes while they clear the weak enemies. I always outtrade them since I get ludicrous healing with that set-up. I use toxic mist and dung pies and just try to slowly chip them away until they die. Throw on Story-tellers staff and the poison damage you will proc adds up fast.

Its especially fun to invade in the graveyard in Cathedral of the Deep with the infinite respawning zombies. You get 60HP back per enemy that dies in the stage, don't even need Estus on that character if you play it right. The poison will kill them slowly, and it almost always makes phantoms blindly chase you into the a bad situation since the damage isn't too terrible. Its a spear, and spears are more utility than being your main source of damage. Love this spear :)

OF COURSE I MADE THIS INSTEAD OF HOLLOWSLAYER BEFORE I FIGURED OUT GREATSWORDS WERE SUPERIOR

WHY IS THIS EVEN AN OPTION

              • Anonymous

With how low poison damage is in this game, they could've buffed the build-up to 50 and the weapon still wouldn't be overpowered.

                • Anonymous

relatively early poison build, alternate weapon arts between this and the storyteller's staff, hopefully the poison procs with the staff, impatiant undead will either fall back to fight at range or say screw it and charge through the poison. wear the farron ring (and later on get an offhand simple weapon/shield) and use throwing knives for the more patiant foe. excluding the stuff for fp regen you only have to kill Vordt, the biggest issue is farming for the staff.

Who doesn't want to stab someone with a spear that has an intestine full of rotting shiit wrapped around it?

                    • Anonymous

This spear should’ve inflicted Toxic, not just regular poison. It also should’ve had a more interesting weapon art, maybe one that increased the health returns on kills. I don’t know, this weapon just should’ve been better.

                      • Anonymous

I just noticed the 2h R2 attack animation is janky. The ashen one normally grips the spear near the bottom with both hands but since this spear handle is so short one hand just grips air lol

                        • Anonymous

I keep this on my back for health reasons. I don't even have the dex required for wielding it, but since my doctor recommended it, I keep it in my off-hand while I two-hand a big ass hammer. I suppose you could reap the health benefits with any twin set as well. Kind if like the grass crest shield.

Underrated weapon. It's parts alone make it seem subpar, but it offers quite a few effects that really make it worth learning to use. In good hands, this weapon can be used to outlast invaders for extended periods if you are in someone else's world or in your own if someone else continues on killing adds.

                            • Anonymous

On the first day I arrived at Crucifixion Woods, I used this poisonous bad boy to win a brutal, protracted battle against ni99amanCorey, Watchdog of Farron. It may not be the greatest weapon in the land, but oh the memories.

                              • Charge I think would have benefitted this spear better considering it’s natural poison. Since charge counts multiple hits it’d make it easier to build up and be more effectively used. Assuming you land most of the hits of course. It’s a good poke weapon from what I see, nice range on the weapon art. Considering it’s the only boss spear we technically get I wish it had a more unique weapon art or that poison inflicted by this spear did greater damage per tick or even that it inflicted a slightly weaker version of toxic instead. It’s not bad as a PvE weapon and shield splitter makes it viable in PvP along with its range. A few interesting combos you can do with it, such as poison mist on top of the WA to throw people for a loop as mentioned below in another comment. The only thing holding it back is the slightly lower damage and cosmetically it bad if you’re a fashion souls person. I really want to love this spear, I just can’t as much as I want.

" The spear is enwreathed heavily in rotten, heavily poisonous meat. Defeating foes restores HP", they said. The best plot twist I have ever heard of. Doesn't do poison DMG though? hmm.... That sure is some special meat ...

                                  • Anonymous

The value of this spear isn't the HP effect, but the poison buildup + WA rollcatches. It's very easy to put someone on the defense with spears already, but throwing out a Poison Mist with your offhand and pressuring them with this and poison throwing knives can keep them from fighting back efficiently.

And then there's the salt you'll get when someone actually dies from poison in this game.

great for a dracula build im trying to do does anyone know any other items besides evil eye that takes their heslth itd be of great help thanks

IMO it is an ok weapon, sure a damage buff wouldn’t hurt, but considering you get poison build up and a free evil ey ring, I’d say it’s fairly balanced

I am very curious what Carim is all about because they seem to know how to manipulate Curse and Sin as well as other status effects, which is very significant if you understand the bigger picture and what those status effects derived from!

                                          • Anonymous

This is possibly Sir Arstor's spear, who is mentioned in Dark souls 1 in the description of the bloodbite ring. Its possible Sir Arstor either became an Earl, or already was. You also find the bloodbite ring in the undead settlement, and you get this weapon from the undead settlement's boss.

                                            • Anonymous

This weapon needs a serious buff at something. Its passive is magnificent if your are doing pve at NG, however after that it really falls short. It is obviously designed as an early game weapon, but comparing this to hollowslayer greatsword, that thing wins outright at every aspect both for Pvp and Pve as a long term investment and in early game. I have never ever used this thing with any character other than putting it on my back when i feel like cheesing the deacons on NG. Its dexterity requirement (19) is too high for it to be an early game weapon as well.

                                              • Anonymous

If you're looking for a fun playthrough, grab a friend or two, toss these on your backs (you don't even need proper stats), and equip Evil Eye Rings. Play fast and loose, the more reckless, the more fun, as long as you keep killing, you keep healing.

                                                • Anonymous

Great synergy with the Lloyd rings; this spear trades off some damage output for its healing effect, however the Sword Ring can make use of the healing effect to increase damage output to a reasonable level. The shield ring then reduces damage taken, helping ensure that the healing effect brings you back up to full health (if necessary add Evil Eye Ring and even Sun Princess Ring). Handy for clearing large areas without relying on flasks.

                                                  • Anonymous

that weapon art is useless, because nobody is going to shield a spear attack anyway. they will try to dodge it and get behind you for a backstab. also that hp recovery effect is quite useless in PvP. damage & requirement wise I'd rather use rotten ghru spear for the better weapon art, the same poison effect and equal damage. this ***** needs buffs considering it being a boss weapon.

                                                    • Anonymous

If you can learn the spacing correctly, a carefully timed R2 can work wonders. Not to mention the shield splitter art is great for catching turtle heads off guard.

This guy takes some inspiration from Dracula, impalling folks and using their bodies for his own experiments(he's created the Purging Stone and the Bite Rings, which redirect status aliments to these items)A true necromancer.

This seems to heal you, along with ring of evil eye and Executioners greatsword (FP) When a host or its phantom kill ANY enemy in the area you invade, If you feel the need to retreat and regen, equip it and let the hosts work their way towards you then de-quip as you engage.

                                                          • Anonymous

The effects of the spear are still active should someone choose to dual wield or two-hand a different weapon, so long Arstor's Spear is in slot, similarly to weapons and shields that are enchanted with the Blessed Gem and Simple Gem.

                                                            • Anonymous

esp for Dex luck builds for poison build up is stronger with higher luck problem is the reach and damage on this weapon is pretty... S**t it's useful as a offhand weapon.

                                                              • Anonymous

So I found that its healing effect heals you when your an invader and the world host and any summoned phantoms kill enemies.

                                                                • Anonymous

It gives you health on kills poisons enemies and eventually gets b Dex scaling this might be one of the best early game weapons possible but in PvP might not be that good...unfortunately

                                                                  • Anonymous

currently using it along with a ghuru-sword, works quite good if the close in or stand in small rooms the sword has a fantastic moveset and for longer ranges this spear, both with poison which makes a nice Addition if phantoms or enkindeld is out of estus.

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

The spear does heal. Go to the area in front of fire link shrine and let the enemies hit you a few times. Once you start killing them you will see your health going back up. Obviously works much better on killing many small enemies than a one big one.

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Really good for pve if you are running low on healing. Deacons of the deep boss fight is also much easier, killing any hollow heals you for the normal amount. It also has a decent moveset.

I'm not sure if it's a glitch or not but it would seem you don't actually have to kill an enemy to get Hp. Just having the spear eqyipped and witnessing a death will heal you.

Do I get lucatiel's sword or do I get this... lucatiel was amazing and her sword wasn't too bad for me to use, but this heals you on a kill.. I've never used spears so I don't know if I'd like it's move set and if lucatiel's sword's move set is the same. I'm probably going to use the sword....
