Black Knight Shield is a Shield in Dark Souls 3.
Shield of the Black Knights who roam the lands. A flowing canal is chiseled deeply into its face.
Long ago, the black knights faced the chaos demons, and were charred black, but their shields became highly resistant to fire.
Skill: Weapon Skill
Equipping this shield in the left hand allows one to perform the Skill of the right hand weapon.
Notes and Tips:
- Cannot be Infused.
- Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
- Highest stability of all medium shields.
- Second highest Fire Defense after the Dragon Crest Shield in category Standard Shields.
- Provides an average block of 73%.
Location/Where to Find
- Dropped by Black Knights. The first Black Knight is near the Farron Keep Perimeter bonfire. He can drop the entire Black Knight Set, in addition to the Black Knight Greatsword.
- Can be farmed in the area after Champion Gundyr in the Untended Graves as it contains 4 Black Knights and is directly adjacent to the bonfire.
- Another Black Knight is located in the Smouldering Lake near the bonfire Demon Ruins.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

Unfairly broken for pve +3 with great magic shield and a spear. Can tank an infinite amount of damage as long as there's no grab attack while still dealing damage, and you just have to lay off every 30 seconds (or 39 with lingering dragoncrest ring) to reapply the buff.

Before elemental infusions we're buffed this shield was meta. Even now it still counters quality builds. If you're running a 40/40 str/dex build and see this, you better hope you brought a man serpent hatchet.

If someone has this with a straight sword, get ready for some tryhard cancer play.

this, and the wolf knight greatsword, made the game so easy that I steamrolled gael on my first playthrough! Great shield to complement my opportunistic playstyle.

Embarrasses every other shield in the game. People complain that shields in DS3 suck, but that's not true. Most shields do suck but the BK shield is almost DS1-level broken.

**** this mainstream ****, stone parma is much better. Real men wear stone parma, but they don't use it

Doesn't weigh too much, has WA Skill and really good average block. Best great shield in the game.

Time you will see this shield:
1. In your inventory (possibly).
2. Someone is doing a black knight cosplay.
3. Someone has a straight sword in one hand and this in the other (most frequent).

******* won't drop it for me. 400 kills got me three of everything else and still no shield smh.

you can use this two handed sl1 with knights ring. its good on demon prince boss when he does the big fireball. its not the best option out there but i tried it sl1 and its pretty good. hope this helped, and praise the sun\o/

so this is why everyone is running shield build, that 100% block negates all dex/str build. However it wont save you from elemental chip damage.
- Anonymous
Does anyone know if this sheild does more damage to demons? Im totally not doing a sheild only and am stuck on demon prince
- Anonymous
Fun fact: we always use this shield backwards. The black knights use it with the upper side covering their arms and the lower side to poke

Jesus ***** Been farming for 3 hours. With copper coins. Still no shield. But everything else yes!

Hey there fellow tryhards! Just gotta say, that with a +5 BKS, 40 Stamina and Ring of Favor +3, you can survive one Shield Break Weapon Art from a straight sword without being guard broken. Haven't tested with the Knight Slayer's Ring, so would need further verification to see if it would survive that as well.

Great at blocking attacks, even better for blocking any skill from entering your brain
Most shields I've seen have been a trade-off of either Look really good, but the shield itself is useless, or the shield is GOD-TIER!... but its **** for fashion. This shield is that exception that is so dam perfect in both categories. It's defense values and stability are amazing, AND it looks amazing with a number of sets. (I'm personally using it with Vinhelm's helmet and the BK set)

Anyone Else think that with this shield with Yuria's Mask, the black night Chest, Legs, Guantlets, and the followers sabre makes one hell of a Black Luster Soldier cosplay?

Great shield all-around, but not for every build. A heavyweight build usually benefits more from a greatshield, while lighter builds generally can’t accomodate its weight. I like it for Strength-caster hybrid builds, when I’m using light-ish armor but investing a handful of points in vit anyways.

"Hey there Kiddo! I see you got great magic shield on that +3 black knight shield!"
"Hell yeah I do! Good luck guard breaking me!"
"Wouldn't it be a shame *Throws duel charm* IF SOMEONE RUINED YOU'RE ENTIRE BUILD!?*
"Oh no! I only maxed for one cast! Too bad i don't have a back up plan, guess I'll die!"
And thats why you don't use great magic shield! Like, srsly even if you don't have duel charms, just wait for it to go away lol.

At +3 this shield won't lose stamina from blocking if great magic shield is used.

Literally the most OP thing in PvP -- people may complain about weapons, but BKS is the true enabler.

Easily the most godly of shields massive overall defense, incredible stability and fairly lightweight also incredibly useful against many bosses ex: twin princes, Old demon king, Demon prince and twin demons, and any other enemy that uses fire damage, also great against pyros if you dont feel you have time to dodge or not confident in your timing full glass cannon pyros do literally like 75-100 damage with a spell that would normally do aroung 600-800 damage

This shield is superb and I'm really surprised it doesn't get more recognition on here. It's a medium shield with good all around defenses, but most of all stability (what really counts) that, when fully upgraded, rivals that of quite a few in the Greatshield class. I think it particularly shines with characters that have high stamina but its balance of the some of the benefits of a greatshield but the lighter weight and requirement of a medium shield can benefit a lot of builds. It also on top of everything else, has the weapon skill ability. Plus it looks really cool.

I dont understand why people say the sks is the best medium shield when the bks has all better stats including stability

Why isn't the most important stat, Stability, shown in the upgrade table?
- Anonymous
At +5 it has 69 stabillity, at +4 has 67, i think it's the highest stability out of all standard shields.
- Anonymous
Well, this shield used to be the best one in DS 1, it was because all that good stats for a medium shield (which can parry). However, now is just a shield with no parry or other stuff, is good to use your weapon art without having to change to two-hands but being a so good shield with a parry made me love it.

First thing I do after killing champion gundyr is grinding out this whole set for the memories i made in it in ds1

In DS1, the Black Knight Shield can block 95% enemy fire damage, but now they reduced it to 85%.
This +3 with magic shield is just broken. 0 damage from Aldrich sitting in his face the whole time.
