Black Bow of Pharis is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

A black longbow named after a hero of old, known for the unusual stance from which it is fired.

Has a longer range than standard bows, but successful usage requires a trained, dexterous hand.

Skill: Pharis Triple-shot
Swiftly nocks three arrows with finesse after drawing the bow, firing them simultaniously.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • The "unusual stance" mentioned in the description is that the bow is held horizontal when drawn. In comparison the Longbow is held vertical, and this also makes it easy to distinguish the two longbows from eachother in a pvp situation since they look very similar.
  • The bow is a weapon from the arsenal of Pharis, a character that features in Dark Souls 1.
  • Cannot running attack or roll attack.
  • Has the longest range out of all the regular bows.
  • When using the skill of this weapon alongside Dark Arrows, the three split arrows will bend and converge on the point of which you were aiming, and then spread out again.
  • Damage may vary depending on ammunition(arrows).

Location/Where to Find

  • Dropped by an Elder Ghru in Farron Keep. There are 3 standing in a circle around a Poison Gem, near the zone wall by the Keep Ruins bonfire. To reach them, travel to Keep Ruins, exit down the ramp, jump off to the left and turn left again, hugging the Keep Ruins island. You will see the group ahead and to the right shortly (watch for the satyr dog you'll attract as you proceed). Another in the group drops Pharis's Hat.
  • Video location (fextralife playthrough video starting at 1h 58m  5s)

Executioners sword, pharis bow and shield of want... that is my kit, none of them are infusable! What gives Fromsoft?

      • Anonymous

It took me ‘bout five years to wonder why From decided to give this bow both the longest range in the game AND a spread-fire weapon art which benefits not at all from said range.

        • Anonymous

This bow seems to have the quickest recovery rate out of all standard bows. I actually prefer this over the Composite Bow even on my 27/40 (STR/DEX) build. It's good at sniping, and CQC. Plus, as mentioned previously; Pharis Triple-shot with Dark Arrows is pretty nasty due to how uncommonly seen it is. I'd put it up there with the Arbalest and Millwood Greatbow in terms of effectiveness in invasions.

          • this bos skill Is good for PvM if you want to "backstab" whit bow, let me share my combo skills: Black Bow of Pharis + Large Arrow. Equipment: Non. Rings: Flynn's Ring + Lloyd's Sword Ring + Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring + Hunter's Ring (You can chage last one at you desire). Spell: Deep Protection + Hidden Body. Then just walk behind and close to the enemy and use the skill Pharis Triple-shot, you will deal like 800 Dmg (testen on the man-serpent at Archdragon Peak bonfire). Note: You can change spell Deep Protection for Power Whitin for a plus dmg, but you the must chage the Lloyd's Sword Ring. Enjoy.

So, with bow glitch and reapeating crossbow s weapon art into this, i can shoot 10 homing dark arrows with a lot of range? I guess the pursuers are back.

              • Anonymous

For approximately 30 dex and above the pharis bow outdamages and out ranges the longbow it also slightly fires a bit faster. So just use this at that point.

                • Anonymous

One possible explanation for the unusual stance is that this is the way a longbow was used when riding a horse (bows were held horizontally so you could quickly change aim with an arrow pulled, without worrying about your bow hitting your horse's neck), until the Mongolians invented the much shorter composite bow.

                  • Anonymous

The funny thing is, that stance is known to improve draw speed and accuracy, but mainly with short bows. Notice how the arrow is nocked with the palm facing downward—this makes the path of the arrow more predictable since the stave doesn’t block user’s view of the arrow. It’s also a faster draw than threading the arrow between the stave and bowstring to recreate the effect in a vertical stance. Realistically, this would likely reduce the range of the arrow since the bow cannot be drawn as far back, but short bows were hardly used from a distance greater than 20-30 feet. Sorry, archery guy likes his archery builds.

"When using the skill of this weapon alongside Dark Arrows, the three split arrows will bend and converge on the point of which you were aiming, and then spread out again."
I suddenly wanna try this weapon out.

                      • So im not sure what the deal is on my game, but, i just got the blackbow, and i looked at all the stats and stuff, and it says it has a range of 50 just like my longbow? Im on a PS4, is this an actual hindrance of the weapon's ability, or a description error?

                        • Anonymous

Are bows the only determining factor in arrow range?

I ask because I'm wondering if Feather arrows on a Composite bow will fly as far as Standard arrows on a Pharis bow.
Alternatively, would Heavy arrows on a Pharis bow fly as far as Standard arrows on a Composite bow?
Just trying to make the Composite a little more viable for sniping, since Pharis can't quick shot or roll shot.

Damage is easy to determine but, ehh, range, a little harder to see...

                          • Anonymous

Great as a side arm for Dex devoted characters who have little to nothing invested in Spells. Personally I use it on my Abyss Watcher Fanboy build, it’s great when your opponent tries to run away and next thing they know they have three homing Dark Arrows lodged in their spinal cord. So in short, think of the Triple Dark Arrow shot as a discount Affinity (or pursuers) with deceptively fast and nice tracking! Oh and DON’T UNDERESTIMATE THE DAMAGE IT DOES!!! When all three manage to land, it does a pretty damned decent amount of their health!

                            • Anonymous

This weapon's damage is also buffed by the Dark Clutch Ring, and I don't just mean the Dark Arrows, it counts as a Dark elemental weapon even though it does no base Dark damage.

This thing is the bane of Sulyvahn's beasts, After every attack you can get up in their face and shotgun them for a triple headshot, don't even need dark arrows. Makes getting the ring of favour a breeze on NG, I did that in three minutes with an non-upgraded version. Do what you will with this information.

Someone needs to edit the article that the character Pharis was never in DS1, just mentioned by name

Yes theres a female NPC that drops his bow but Pharis's descriptions clearly state he's a dude.
                                  That NPC is not him.

Dark arrows track your opponents, so the weapon art gets pretty useful with that.
That's the only reason why they follow the target, IT'S NOT SOME "OH, THEY HAVE THE WORDS "BLACK" AND "DARK", SO THAT'S WHY IT HAPPENS".
The black-dark thing is just a coincidence.

                                    • Anonymous

The weapon art sounds like a good thing for a Legolas cosplay. Any suggestions for other equipment for one?

                                      • Anonymous

Interesting thing, if you use dark arrows with the weapon art, the arrows have more of a homing ability instead of just 3 different ways

                                        • Anonymous

If you don't have a strong ranged weapon, (( or are just to lazy to get one.)) you can lure the elder gurus to the white birch tree and the giant can take them out for you.

                                          • Anonymous

The bow's weapon art has extraordinary relation with Dark arrows. Normally the Triple Shot would just cause 3 arrows to move out in a cone shape in front of you. But I have just noticed that if you Triple Shoot using dark arrows, all three BEND from the cone path, CONVERGE at at a point ahead of you, and then move out conically again. This is a unique interaction with the weapon art, hinted at by the descriptions of both Pharis Bow and Dark Arrows. Not sure if it's a glitch, but it should certainly be added in the wiki.

                                            • I believe this bow has the fastest firing speed out of any normal bow (Rapid Fire weapon art doesn't count). Can anyone back me up on this? Also, for people wondering how to use Pharis Triple Shot, you're supposed to use it with Dark Arrows, this is the only way the arrows will track instead of just going in three separate directions.

                                              • Anonymous

The weapon art is situational, but I have found it excellent in co-op because when a boss is distracted, you can move in for some triple shot burst damage then retreat and let's not forget how hard this destroys anything that is bigger than you lol

                                                • Anonymous

I used the stance with fire arrow to kill the giant worm from the safe place near the Old Demon King boss gate and took out 600+ hp per shot. The worm died very quickly. I also make use the homing of dark arrows, as long as you are not too far or too close, you can snipe your enemies with the stance and all three arrows will hit and deal massive damage.

                                                  • Why do you think the hat and the bow is found by the elder ghrus? I'm no lore guru, so I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but why is it found there?

                                                    • Anonymous

You can easily take out the three Swamp Giant Things easily and safely with a ranged weapon from the bridge. From the Bonfire, kill the three Ghru, position yourself where they were and take aim. At best, you'll have to dodge the red skulls they cast from time to time, but for me, only one of the three even did that.

                                                      • The dark arrow homing trick found just makes it even better. If only it had a running or rolling attack I'd say it could have some viability as a main weapon (for once) since it hits so hard. If only we could carry more than two sets of 99 arrows, but I guess its logical.

                                                        • Anonymous

Just beat Champion Gundyr trying out the triple shots homing capabilities with Dark Arrows, I can confirm it definitely works, they track like crazy!Seriously sweet damage too! The only downside I can safely say is that Dark Arrows are a little expensive for where I am in the game... ( 'Level skipped' by killing the Dancer before I've beaten any Lords of Ash)

I joined Rosaria's Fingers in my last New Game. I am on NG+ now and haven't even spoken to her. Even then she still wont spawn. Also she does not give you the gesture when you first meet her. She just loops some stupid blessing dialogue, then when you load in she despawns. Yay...

Using Pharis Triple Shot weapon art with dark arrows does indeed cause them to home in, up to slightly beyond lock on range. Neat

                                                              • Anonymous

If you are having problems with killing those 3 badasses on a regular way its possible to simply take them down one by one while standing on the Bridge that leads to the Bonfire. Its the left one that drops the bow and you don't got to "loot" it because it'll "auto loot" like Boss Souls.

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

You just shoot 3 arrows at 3 different angles in front of you. Not that effective really. That being said, I have no idea what to replace it with
