Notes

  • Deals (spell buff x 1.8) damage on a direct hit and (spell buff x 1.1) damage with the burst.
  • This spell deals physical damage, not fire. It also has short to medium range and travels in an arc, heavily affected by gravity.
  • Direct hits knock opponents down if they are not guarding. Useful against Crystal Lizards and Hollow Clerics, as they get inmediately flipped on their back, opening them for further damage.
  • Has enough force to guard-break most shields in 1 hit, making it useful for dealing with enemies such as Lothric Knights and Darkwraiths
  • Has a horizontal range of about 2m and an unlimited vertical range, making it suitable for attacking from above.
  • When the boulder hits the ground, it shatters, spreading chunks that stagger opponents and do heavy poise and stamina damage.
  • Can be used against the Abyss Watchers. If timed well you can stun-lock the boss in both phases.
  • This pyromancy is affected by Flynn's Ring.
  • Casting this pyromancy with Demon's Scar causes a small visual effect, centered on the caster's head.

Imagine getting into a fight and seeing the other guy start violently dry-heaving, then out of nowhere you get your head caved in with a rock. Wild.

This goes great with flynn ring, swamp ring and izalith ring. They weigh low enough to give BIG boost, combine with lloyd or power within+tearstone

I decided to trolling in ringed city elevator by using this spell, and I have destroy a lot invader then get bunch of hate mail. My build is RTSR, Witch ring, Great Swamp ring, and morion blade.

In short, this spell is powerful in vertical scenario

This spell is profoundly based. With proper timing it can stunlock most strong enemies and even some bosses. The casting speed is drastically improved with the sage's ring. This spell is extremely effective for farming corvian knights even at low level for large shards and chunks. Also it's really funny in pvp when someone thinks you're casting poison mist so they come closer for the free hits only to get flattened by your chad boulder.

This spell is amazing and strong against high-poise enemies and bosses - if you're having issues with Old Demon King just spam boulders on his back and ggwp.

                Wtf is this sh**?
                >heavily affected by gravity
                >horizontal range of about 2m and an unlimited vertical range???

                Logicless article...

This spell winds up being at it's most relevant when you first can get it, it absolutely destroys deacons and abyss watchers, and then for the rest of the game it winds up being a good tool for taking out enemies like black knights, in general a nice tool to have even if it is absolute a** in PvP

Use this 0 weight greathammer over the stairs where the 4 harald knights are patrolling, then repeat the process on the 2nd part. For the ringed knights? You can stunlock them all day. The greatshield ones gets guard broken in 2 or 3 boulders.

I found this to be one of the most useful spells. It was my go to until chaos bed of vestiges. Using this to break poise and even knockdown some strong enemies followed by a heavy melee attack go me through many jams

                      • Anonymous

best spell by far vs demon prince, dont even bother with soul dregs, using this instead is a night and day difference.

Just another thing: This can hit certain enemies TWICE, one on the direct hit and one on the shatter, so if the numbers here are correct you're looking at a 2.9 spell buff physical damage pyromancy (possibly more if it counts as stability damage, but don't quote me on that).

if you manage to crit somebody and time the use of this spell right it becomes a guaranteed hit especially if you use it right after sacred flame.

                            a very under appreciated spell.

its especially handy for people running around you during a duel.

This spell is so fun! Fellow pyromancers out there, keep this spell handy for any fire-types you encounter. Also works wonders against crowds. Just treat it like a short-range attack, and you'll love it.

To all people talking about the range: you know it's vertical range, right? Horizontally it has about 3 steps of distance but it works properly for what it is: a giant peeble.

Range is a bit stumpy, and the start-up is kinda slow, but hey, it's physical damage scaled off magical stats, and the stagger is quite handy. Viable alternative/supplement to a Raw Weapon for a caster build late game, when Raw has lost its edge.

Absolutely DESTROYED the Deacons of the Deep on my caster playthrough. Two shots kills half the crowd due to the AOE effect and the Deacons piddling physical defense. Even better in the second phase where it will effortlessly shut down the Archdeacons attempts to charge up his Dark spell. You definitely want this over Havel's Ring if you're running a caster.

                                    • Anonymous

Stumpy range and kinda slow casting time, but the ability to deal physical damage based on caster stats is pretty handy.

I wish Souls games had more Earth-centered magic. King's Field had an entire Earth-magic line of spells so I don't think it would be impossible.

I hope more physical pyromancies get added if another souls game comes out. Being a terramancer would be pretty damn cool.

This thing saved me during Deacons of the Deep boss fight, when I was playing as a spell caster, and had no decent weapon against them

                                            • Anonymous

This spell is so useless without range. One of the worst pyromancies that also takes so long to cast. No you cannot stun lock with it.

                                              • Anonymous

its good in pvp cause it is very unpredictable, like they expect the flame sound and a vestige when you have the pyromancy flame, the different animation and no sound throws them off

                                                • Anonymous

Boulder Heave is awesome against NPC invaders. With the Sage Ring, just spam it as it will knock them flat on their back everytime. They won't have a chance to do anything else. I keep it attuned for just such an occasion.

                                                  • Anonymous

This spell is amazing and should be in every pyro's tool kit. It's remarkably cheap for the damage; gives you an amazing source of poise/knock down that dex based pyro's never have. It's fairly quick with the right setup. It's incredibly good at roll catching; can be obtained fairly early, and because it doesn't get used all that often it's a huge suprise to most players.

                                                    • Anonymous

I got it, and while the wiki says 17 FP, in my game it says 136, so i can't launch it?
If i had known it was so expensive, i wouldn't have spent a level on int to launch it :/
Is it normal? is it a bug?
I got the spell while on 7 int, raised it to 8 to be able to cast it, but now i have to level up my FP

                                                      • I just added that note about casting with Demon's Scar, and the visual effect. I was testing all pyromancies to see how cost-effective they were. Tested this one with the Pyromancy Flame, Pyromancer's Parting Flame, White Hair Talisman, and Demon's Scar. Only Demon's Scar causes this visual effect.

Good for cheesing bosses that can't be knocked down because then they'll be hit by both the impact and debris

                                                          • Anonymous

While it is rather gimmicky; it has surprisingly good stagger and knockback on human-sized enemies. Okay, I guess it's not that surprising considering you're throwing a frickin' boulder at them. This spell absolutely has its benefits; but I would like it a lot more if it either had a longer range, or shorter cast time.

I have the strange feeling that this spell s rock is composed by all those peebles i picked up in bloodborne

                                                              • Anonymous

It scales with your flame's spellbuff (which scales with int/faith), but it is physical damage, so it also benefits from flynn's ring and lloyd's sword ring as well as your pyromancy rings, so you can pile up a lot of damage early on. However, the damage type is standard, not strike as you would intuitively guess.

                                                                • Anonymous

If you're the type that prefers to be up close and personal with bosses, this can work against the Demon Prince as opposed to your usual pyromancy spells. I believe Dorhys' Gnawing to be an equal choice however, the final decision being whether you prefer fighting in melee or at range. Fear not the dark my friend, and let the feast begin.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

Stunlocking them never felt more satisfying, and with enough INT/FTH you can kill them with three rocks to the face.

                                                                              • Anonymous

Especially useful if they insisted on blocking since it would just break their guard and I could get free ripostes on demand. Used it on some of the Lothric knights too, although I forgot to see how effective it was against Havel.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

Apparently, it spawns a second rock/boulder if it hits a tall or airborn enemy. During the fight with the Crystal Mage I noticed he receives damage twice and is stunned twice, resulting in massive damage. So is it just me or are you having similiar experiences?
