Chaos Blade is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

A cursed sword of unknown origin bearing uncanny streaks on its blade.

Attacks also damage its wielder.

The sword is not unlike a thing misshappen, granted life, but never welcome in this world. In other words, chaos itself.

Skill: Hold
Assume a holding stance to rapidly execute a lunging slash with normal attack, or a deflecting parry with strong attack.

I have a level 100ish sword master cosplay character and use this with flynn's ring, i thought having such awful armor (including missing defense from having no helm at all) would make it more funny than good but good god the damage potential is absurd. i managed to get gold rank in the hollow arena, mostly with parries, and as an invader i once hit a host on a counter hit with a charged R2 for 1168 damage. dude just evaporated. chaos blade is legit

"Why use this weapon when x weapon has more damage/speed, better reach/moveset/weapon art and doesnt hurt you per hit and bla bla bla?"

Because 1. I remember what the r2 button can do and 2. No other weapon in my inventory had made such a btch out of both DLCs. Not even the winblades.

        • so ****ing cool to use.

I don't care if i get killed 10 times trying it, landing that parry on some ****er spamming a curved sword and just obliterating them with the riposte will always be worth it.

Look at these people, acting as if the self damage is even that big of deal and you can't easily negate it with the sun princess ring a a blessed parrying dagger +10.

            • Anonymous

The self damage isn't a penalty that makes this weapon bad, its a balance to keep it from being so good it's broken :)

              • Anonymous

"but it does self damage, why would anyone use a self-damaging weapon? Why would anyone care about s scaling and a little extra bleed when IT HURTS THE USEEER?"

Godammit... I have a dex character with 50 vigor and power within on my kit. The self damage is quite noticeable for my big health bar, but i would have to cast power within twice and hit enemies non-stop to ever get to under 250 hp. Honestly, self-damage is only a problem for those who play without hud. If you think any other weapon will be more forgiving with your mistakes, wake the fck up and remember what game you're playing.

I don't see the point of this weapon. "Inflicts more Bleed". Yeah, literallly 1 point more than other katanas?!? What's the point? If it gets good at high levels due to scaling, then the percentage based HP removal will be even more noticeable.

Now, if it was at least removing a set number of HP, I could understand that. The way it currently works doesn't really make sense, unless maybe you want some sort of extreme glass cannon build with max DEX and low VIG? I'd prefer if they made it so that the self damage is healed back when you kill the enemy you're fighting. The self damage % could also be increased to balance that out and then I think it could be a more interesting and fun weapon.

At refinement +5, 18 str, 80 dex, with Hornet Ring, Flynn's Ring, and exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) 16.0 equip load gives you an AR of 491. Go to the Ringed Inner Wall bonfire. Just through the doorway is a Hollow Slave (the creepy little dudes with red robes). Parry and riposte the Hollow Slave with the Chaos Blade (you MUST parry and riposte, backstabs have different motion values). This is a DEEPLY hidden reference to Berserk. The riposte will deal 1776 damage, which of course alludes to chapter 98 of the manga, in which Guts defeats King George III in a duel and establishes the United States.

Edgiest katana by far. Does good damage with flynns ring too. Only thing is be sure to keep midir's katana on you as a backup as any 100% block shield hard counters this weapon entirely.

I have a question... in the Notes and Tips part, in the point 7.... It says, at 79 LCK the Chaos Blade +5 has 51 Bleed. What does LCK mean? Is it the stat of luck or what?

                        • Anonymous

I use this as a substitute for the Chikage in a Bloody Crow of Cainhurst cosplay (Billed Mask, Cornyx's top, Vilhelm's leggings, Dancer's gauntlets, offhand repeating crossbow) at SL125 with 80 DEX. So the armor is wildly unoptimized, but the Chaos Blade works surprisingly well in ganks, invasions, and in the duel arena. People don't respect the weapon art parry.

Isn't it curious that a weapon wich isn't spammer-friendly is disliked by most players?

Just saying, the self damage on hit encourages placing each and every hit carefully, avoiding hits more cautiously, attempting parries and strong attacks more frequently... Being wise and tactical in general.

                            • Anonymous

The health loss is actually a good incentive to get you used to parry and riposte. Or at least it is for whoever has trouble with it.

I’m finding it difficult to justify using this at high levels. At 80 dex it gets outdamaged by a sharp LKSS and has a worse moveset. Plus it deals self damage. It looks cool but seems kinda meh. Katanas in a nutshell lol

Idk if being ableto buff this weapon or not matters at all. When you re near the hardcaps in dex, the resulting ar from that scaling competes with curved greatswords.

I'm trying to add the self-damage of this weapon to a modded weapon. Is there a way to do this using the Cheat Engine?

                                    • Don't understand the lamenting. It's an early to get, powerfull, fast swinging, bleed inducing, dex weapon. Collect the twinkling titanite, trade your broken coiled sword fragment for a slap and equip Arstors spear in the left hand to get life back after each kill. Optional: Pontiffs left eye ring. There you go. Easy mode unlocked.

It'd be pretty funny if this weapon was unbuffable amirite guys?
In all seriousness, great to chase people with considering you probably won't have the time to buff, but it hurts it badly not being able to buff (mostly due to the self-damage factor), shame

Fun weapon with good damage, if you're good at katanas then baiting someone into a parry nets you the opening you need to bleed then dry. If they turtle, use a dark drift to apply pressure

This weapon has the highest dex scaling in the game at 1.708! For comparison a sharp dagger comes in second place at 1.470

What katana would be good for a pyromancy build like damage? Since probably not going full on with dex, I'm just curious if anyone has any suggestions.

My favorite weapon of the Miyazaki souls games. Sure it was in 2 but like all the other katanas in DS2 they made it ridiculously OP via infusions and buffs. Resonate blade on a dark chaos blade, anyone? Anywho, you can actually make meta SL 125 with a 16/99 build specifically for this weapon and I highly recommend it for advanced players. Flynn ring and Dragon form to get extra silly. Experts only. The rest of you noobs continue to enjoy your straight swords, Gael’s and Splitleafs.

It should be "Misshapen" as it says in-game, and not "Mishappen", which is not a word. The sword is described as being "Malphormed", or being that of Chaos itself. To be fair/honest, I've only had an interest in this blade's story/history ever since seeing Zoro in One Piece obtain the cursed blade known as "Sandai Kitetsu / Kitetsu III".

                                                    • Anonymous

It's just a myth that the Chaos Blade has better parry frames. Uchigatana, Black Blade & Chaos blade all have the same parry frames, frame 8.0 - 16.1 @60fps. Washing pole actually has the longest parry window, 8.0 - 8.3 @60fps. Data here:-

Do rings like the Calamity Ring, Carthus Bloodring, etc. make this deal more damage to the user? Bc if so, this would be the main weapon for an "I hate myself" build, lol.

                                                        • Anonymous

For comparison, Caetus is 8.1 - 16.3, however it has an extra 2 frame recovery time (30 vs 28.1) and the katanas get a damage absorption bonus while using the parry, making them a little safer to use

I personally don’t understand how this weapon is good enough that it makes you ok with damaging yourself every attack, can someone tell me?

Has an AR of 490 on 99 Dex. With the Flynn's Ring The AR can go up to 550 and with most low weight armors you will get about 520 (Ring of Steel Protection is recommended). The combo of Great Sword level dmg, Bleed, handy moveset and fast attacks is insane. I had a really good time shredding through PvE with this weapon.

                                                                  • Anonymous

I don't know the season or what is the reason I'm standing here holding my blade. A desolate place without any trace. It's only the cold win I feel... It's me that I spite as I stand up and fight. The only thing I know for real: There will be blood - Shed!

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

A curved sword born from the soul of

Blade wielder erodes along with opponents.

It description says "forged by a famous swordsmith in a distant country". Would guess this has to be Muramasa then. His swords are known to be cursed ones. Like the Chaos Blade is cursed too.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                        • Anonymous

The Chaos Blade is unfortunately unaffected of the latest regulation changes which should have boosted the influence of high level dexterity.
It still scales the same all the way up to an AR of 490 with 99 Dex.
Also from the latest patch it didn't receive any bonus in terms of it's bleed aux (neither through luck scaling nor higher base aux). Too bad it was left out on that part since it seemed that it should have some distinguished edge in that matter compared to other's

                                                                                            • Anonymous

Too bad it cannot be infused....a Chaos Chaos blade would have been hilarious, then again they would have altered to reinforced like they did with the darksword

                                                                                              • Anonymous

I just barely found out of this thing and was immediately infatuated with it. I tested the TWO ideas I had out of curiousity. Chaos Blade is NOT affected by the Ring of Steel Protection, or by a Duel Charm. I figured this would be the case, but I was dissapointed to find out that it is ALSO not affected by the Calamity Ring. I was hoping to punish myself extra for leveling dex. Sadly I cannot do so, I'll simply have to pair it with Bloodlust for my extra edgy imasculation build.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

The trajectory on the jumping attacks with this thing is just too funny but also catches a lot of people off guard!

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

The Chaos Blade also scale with an S with luck. I gain around 120 damage on my scalling with 40 luck. I tested it by swapping my stats at Rosaria.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

But it really needs a dedicated 60 dex build to make it shine and currently no other weapon benefits from 60 dex expect the pontiff knight scythe and that need 12 faith so it really limits the amount of weapons you can use that isn't better when used ina quality build which is disappointing
