Claymore is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.



An unusually large and heavy greatsword normally wielded with two hands.

This highly versatile weapon can be swung broadly or thrusted.

Skill: Stance
While in stance, use normal attacks to break a foe's guard from below, and strong attack to slash upwards with a forward lunge.



Notes and Tips:

  • Can be Infused and Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • All weapons have motion values assigned to each attack, which are modifiers to AR that are associated with the attack being used.
    • All Greatswords have a motion value of 195 on backstab, 245 on riposte, and 60 + 220 on Hornet Ring riposte. The motion value of a Greatsword does not change with Hornet Ring.

 

  • The Claymore has a range of 20sp on the 2h R1.
    • sp, or Shield Pokes, are a unit of measurable distance to determine the range of a weapon. Certain actions create different distances from a wall, allowing one to test the range of certain attacks. While this testing isn't 100% accurate, it is a very good indicator of the ranges of each attack.
  • The Claymore has Thrusting R2s when 2h.

 

  • Greatswords are a weapon class that utilizes Hyper Armor on the 2h R1, R2, Rolling R1, Rolling R2, Running R1, and Jumping Attack. Hyper Armor prevents you from being staggered during its active frames.
    • Note that this information is all measured in frames per second (FPS).
    • Less FPS means a faster action. If you play on console at 30 FPS, the displayed values will be halved.
    • It is also important to note that while this is not the frame data for attack speed and recovery, those values are fairly similar to the ones listed.

  • Poise is a modifier to how effective Hyper Armor can be at preventing stagger.
    • Poise health is another component of Hyper Armor. Most standard attacks reset your poise health to 80%, most weapon arts reset it to 100%, and waiting around 30 seconds without getting hit will also reset to 100%. What this means is that there are two different poise breakpoints that you need to keep in mind; there is an "infinite trade" breakpoint and a "trade once with reset" breakpoint, both of which are displayed in the poise calculator. As I mentioned above, most weapon arts reset your poise health to full, but not all.
  • The poise required for Greatswords to avoid being staggered by certain attacks is as follows:

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X". 
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped. 
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

      people be abusing this thing’s phantom range in pvp, and it’s pretty annoying tbh. yeah, spacing is a legit skill but i see a lot of people soley relying on exploiting phantom range. ez tip: switch to a mace or any perserverance WA, it’ll maks fighting a good claymore player a lot less frustrating.

            The Claymore more like the LAMEmore LOL! Imagine using this garbage when you can use the PKCS instead. This weapon is so laughably slow. You can't even reaction roll catch with it LOL! If you think this can compete with the PKCS then fight me with it. I'll easily out space and whiff punish all your super slow attacks then point you down after EASILY killing you for thinking there is any other weapon in the game worth using when the PKCS exists.

                My lawd haters just gotta hate it seems! I've read through comments on A LOT of weapons here on this site and every one has "great for casuals", "try hard", "meta", "noob weapon", etc. Seems like every weapon comes with a little sprinkling of salt! Claymore is as basic, no thrills, if you're decent at the game you will make it weapon in the game. No special tricks required just timing and don't get greedy. Now weapons like the PKCS or straight swords deserve some salt because it's just a matter of endurance and taking potassium so that your R1 finger doesn't cramp out to win.

                    very good sword I killed 5 twinks with it all of them around SL 20-30 , all of my niggas had around 1100 HP as an invader and did like 200 dmg with some shitty axe so ye it felt kinda good killing some twinks

                      To the people who say this weapon is op, I say get good. A noob doesn't know how to use this weapon, the true beauty in it is the spacing. But yes, a lkss or pkcs is better, but the claymore isn't op, it's fun.

                        Can never go wrong the Claymore, no matter the game. Better damage, stagger, and hyperarmor than a regular sword, but not so agonizingly slow and stamina hungry as an ultra greatsword. Ahh, old reliable, you never let me down.

                            pros:

                            1. good moveset with sweeping r1s and thurst r2s

                            2. good damage output, heavy infusion 66/13 is 554 AR, refined 40/40 is 524 AR, sharp 16/60 is 513 AR, best physical infusion for stats expended is heavy

                            3. can be buffed and infused and works well with all elemental infusions, stat requirments and also average to low for a GS

                            4. long weapon so easier to do spacing and roll catch

                            cons:

                            none

                            Other: A versatile weapon with good moveset and good damage. I cant find a flaw for this weapon except the general flaws of it s class. Good for area pve, due to moveset and poise damage, decent option for bosses as well. One of the Best GS for pvp being versatile, having low stat requirments and average stam consumtion per swing. There is not much to say about this GS, it is a jack of all trades and a damn good one. It does not have the highest damage of GS, but it s very close, not the best moveset of GS, but it s very close and so on....It feels just too normal, powerfull but nothing unique.

                            Still a very good choice due to it s efficiency and a strong contender for the best GS in the game!

                              If this thing didn't have a rolling poke, it would be my all time favorite. Bastard sword was my fav for early game, then I realized I missed this.
