Dragonslayer Swordspear is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

A dragon hunting weapon from the age of the gods. The earliest form of the cross spear, serving as both a sword and a spear.

Its owner was the Nameless King, a deific hunter of dragons. The swordspear is imbued with lightning, of which he was the heir.

Skill: Falling Bolt

Hold swordspear high in the air to summon fierce lightning that descends upon distant foes.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite Scales.
  • The weapon is based on line of sight, meaning that if any object stands between the player and the target the lightning will strike there instead
  • Weapon art can be parried, however, this is risky because the lighting still hits.
  • Its moveset is a mix between the Spear and Glaive movesets.
    • When one-handed:
      • Light attacks are spear
      • Running attacks are spear
      • Rolling attacks are spear/glaive (They share one-handed rolling attacks)
      • Heavy attacks are glaive
      • Leaping attacks are spear
    • When two handed:
      • Light attacks are glaive
      • Running attacks are spear
      • Rolling attacks are spear
      • Heavy attacks are spear
      • Leaping attacks are spear

Not sure what the general consensus on this weapon is, but Gwyn have mercy… This thing’s move set is boring as sin. I love dark souls 3, it’s far and away my favorite game that fromsoft has made, but if I were to give one criticism of the game as a whole, it would be the weapons. So many of the weapons in this game are just so bland. Mainly because of the reused move sets.

Is it good one a faith dex build together with sunlight straight sword? Currently 30 dex and 20+5 (Ring) faith

really cool pvp weapon. unfortunately it's held back a lot by having the worst poise health in the game, not having an r1 r1 true combo unless spaced correctly, having high requirements, and being very heavy

          • Anonymous

It was too big to be called a sword. Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. Indeed, it was a heap of raw iron

            • Anonymous

i used this weapon on my faith build and it destroyed midir, i was getting 300 dmg, every time i hit his head. 10/10 would recremend using aginst him.

Interesting how this guy is just the first weapon. The cross spears were modeled after this one, and it’s implied (I believe) that NK had the first one, as he had only respect for arms.

Beware ppl. This weapon is heavy only weight, but not in weapon class. Despite using halberd moveset while 2 handed, it's still a spear class weapon. It will bounce off certain shields and greatshields, and won't have as much poise health as you'd think.

Wait not only are people fighting about what weapons other people use but they are fighting for a weapons that not even that great. I don’t care what people use blunt don’t make fun of what other people use especially if you are saying that is the best weapon.

Seeing this abomination in action makes me relate to why Gwyn banished the nameless casul. Better yet too many trash casuls pick this weapon up and think they are masters of the universe... that is until they get a reality check that leaves them crying and uninstalling the game. I am the one who will make you trash cans realize that unless you pick up the pkcs you are going to keep getting rammed over and over again.

You guys need to quit using nameless’s weapon because you guys don’t look cool nor are guys as skilled as him but there’s always the pkcs the best weapon in the game

Great weapon already, but there was a chance to give this the Abyss Watchers treatment. If I was the one designing this weapon's moveset, I'd keep all the one hand attacks the same, But when 2-handed, the player character holds the cross spear like the Nameless King. The normal attack combo would start with 2 swipes and followup with thrusts holding the cross spear, and the running attacks would be his spin slice dash. As for the R2, it would just be a thrust with short range because you're holding the weapon at the cross, but there would be bonus poise to compensate. And when 2 handed, the weapon art would change to the Nameless Kings overhead slam that leaves a lightning blast, basically like the Dragonslayer Great Axe, but with an extra effect. Though I would prefer to use animation similar to the Nameless King. We see him use all these moves in the fight, so it's a shame we missed the chance to use them.

Nameless king had a great impression on me so ive decided to create a nameless king build account this spear and yorshka chime and faith rings+lightning ring and you are fine

                              • Anonymous

the faith scaling only impacts the lightning damage on the weapon and on a 40/40 quality build this weapon actually has the highest AR of any spear so you could fail the stats on this weapon and it'd STILL be good

What I love about this weapon is the weapon arts sunlight blade buff. Because it’s the only lighting buff that is that great golden sunlight color

                                  • Anonymous

Definitely my fav weapon in the game.
Falling bolt feels so ****in good to wreak shop with and at DISTANCE does more dmg than sunlight spear.
Super fun, the only annoying thing is occasionally hitting the roof and having the blade bounce (tho of course all weapons can bounce)

If only you could fight even a little like the Nameless King with this, shared attacks, I mean. The weapon art is amazing tho.

Wouldn't it be awesome if this was a Trick Weapon like in Bloodbborne and you could switch between sword and spear with the click of a button?

                                        • I was rolling at Archdragon Peak and decided to pick this bad boy to kill some pesky serpent dudes, but suddenly my WA was swapped to Spin Sweep (like Partizan) for a moment. After this it became the hazardous Falling Bolt again and i came here for answers. Is this glitch common? Ps.: I googled for this and the videos i saw about people glitching weapon's animation worked way different from what happened to me (warped to Great Belfry bonfire, equipped some rings, held this babe with both hands, ran and pressed the WA button).

                                          • Anonymous

Fun weapon, my main problem with it is that it's weapon art takes forever, and has no hyperarmor, and the lightning bolt isn't able to strike far enough away from you that it can make up for the time to charge up. You have to be careful while using it.

                                            • Anonymous

Ppl feel like this weapon s damage is underwhelming, but it s wa is probably the strongest pure lightning damage attack in the game. It s not a heavy weapon, so dont expect a crazy amount of damage and be patient in your battle.

                                              • Anonymous

Dragonslayer spear is better FOR ME. Its 2 poky pokes deal decent damage and can weapon art combo while this thing can't because of its massive windup, and that if your opponent does dodge it (npc or pvp) your left open to an attack or maybe 2, which can be fatal if they are packing an ultra. Also I know, weapon buff after lightning, useful but of course, havel monsters exist. And that buff lasts 60 seconds, so if you main this weapon, just discard that lightning blade/ any other buff away, because all those int/ faith points are useless. It's moveset is glaive which is good but has a lot of recovery times that those backstab fishers will abuse. PvE this bad boy will deal some damage though. Pokey poke ornstein spear for the win!

I forged the curved sword because i overlooked that you can forge three items from his soul -_- I wanted the Spear so badly...

                                                  • Anonymous

This may be a dumb question, but does the WA gain any benefit from Morne's Ring and Ring of the Sun's First Born?

                                                    • Anonymous

Just going to put this here: the link to the weapons page on this goes to "fallout+76+weapons", making the page error out. To fix this, remove the fallout+76+, and it will work again.

                                                      • Anonymous

I based my whole build around this weapon. With a lightning clutch ring and high faith, there are a whole lot of good combos you can use with this. Good for both PVP and PVE. Just make sure you time the weapon art correctly!

                                                        • Anonymous

The weapon art actually scales pretty well with faith, but it'll be a wasted investment for your standard attacks. Altogether, a very strange weapon. Not really good, but not bad either.

                                                          • Oh, D.S S.S is the first Cross Spear and wielded by the Nameless King? That first born who was banished and removed from history? Nah! He must be the guy with a name, all over the games Lore and not banished at all in DkS1. The one guy people thought was an illusion from some reason despite the fact I've killed him after killing Gywndolin. His Leo Ring references him as the first Knight of the Nameless King? That's really odd it says "Ornstein" then says "of the eldest born" but wouldn't it be "and" instead of "of" if they're the same. Really wierd to say Ornstein but not the eldest borns name and reference them as seperate... Reading and logic is for people who want to make sense.

                                                            • Anonymous

I played around with it a lot in both PvE and PvP (Dex/Faith build) and I've found the weapon isn't bad, but it's not great. It's very slightly above average overall, and here's why: the moveset is actually very satisfying as it can handle a lot of situations, with 1H R1 and running 1H R1 spear pokes great, the 1H R2 excellent for horizontal roll catching/cleaving (hitting multiple targets in a cone in front of you), 2H R1 for fast, off-timed (player having difficulty gauging when they need to dodge it), and solid range blows, 2H R2 nothing special; the WA can absolutely annihilate players who don't know how to dodge it yet and even catches players d*cking around and running everywhere (it'll hit your opponent even if they're sprinting), but becomes nothing more than a long-winded weapon buff (WA gives a lingering +80? lightning buff to weapon) for everyone else; and in PvE, it's moveset and WA shine as it's very flexible. However, my major criticisms are: the weapon is absurdly heavy, seriously hampering your options for back up weapons or good armor (you may be strained for points to get full damage out of this weapon, enough endurance to not gas out, and enough vigor for good armor); the damage could use a minor buff as it's a demanding weapon stat-wise, preferably in the range of 550-600 AR with all soft caps excluding the WA buff; and the 2H R1 BADLY needs a poise boost (you can't possibly convince me a 14.5 Unit weapon should be knocked out MID-sequence while Splitleaf with 13.5 Unit weight can bulldoze through 1-2 hits with similar armor). Overall, it is a fun weapon, really fun actually, definitely worth playing with, but just needs that little extra juice.

                                                              • Anonymous

At least it's DkS1 varient had the benefit of being the only scaleble Lightning damage on a weapon in the game. This one is bad, damage low, scaling bad and misleading. It could've been saved if it actually had a Sword/Spear moveset seperated by 1 or 2 handing. It doesn't, Lore wise it doesn't measure up, game wise it's poor and mechanically it's doesn't.

                                                                • Anonymous

This thing is NOT a powerful weapon early game. Now, i have a knack for being invaded by the most Ganky cancerous players alive and they wield weapons like this at low level. This one player invaded and full R1 spammed, like any player would. Two handed it and i***** you not, didn't even do 200 DMG to me at base level. Mind you i did have like 1300 HP at cathedral OTD level, but that is no excuse. This is just a bad weapon. Completely reinforced. About 330 if your lucky.

                                                                  • Anonymous

So about the strength softcap. When 1h you get more 5 points when you go from 26 to 28 in strength, but when 2h you only get 2 points. So is this a waste of 2 levels or not. I can't decide.

                                                                    • This weapon on dex&faith build is awesome. Has its own buff that can surprise some players and mob is unaware allready. The lightning can kill 60% of the mob instantly on NG and NG+.It deals around 400 to 600 to players depending on their resistances. Its awesome weapon on levels after 100 and high levels with 50 in str,dex and faith it rends bosses and invaders alike. All in all its great weapon. I made my char around it. Added other lightning spells to have more options. I go around and smack everything with lightning. Storm Lord FTW!

                                                                      • Anonymous

After making a build for Dragonslayer Spear in DS1/Remastered and then realizing it is like a 100 SL minimum weapon, I encourage mid level use of this weapon. The lightning damage is minimal, so this is basically a Dex weapon with the lightning weapon art thrown in. I don't know the numbers for the base weapon before buff but to invest in this weapon too heavily for lightning damage is kind of asking for an ass kicking. It does have stats for normal damage before the faith requirement, which is pretty good but of course the weapon art is going to be why you use this weapon. Cheers.

                                                                        • Anonymous

This weapon only shines if you use all it can do and you’re smart enough to obey Piccolo and DODGE. Also, works best with the buffs you can get from faith since by then you already have high faith and dex and probably decent strength. By then it is a powerful weapon even without buffs. Then you buff it and buff yourself and maybe also have pyromancy buffing and go to town with its moves.

Also, this website is not an online market, people.

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

You...you can parry... the WA... but why... all you are doing is holding it up in the air to cast lightning... yet they get rid of dragonslayer greataxe WA parry ffs...

                                                                              • The best thing with this weapon is a Longsword. Cause this spear is slow...and the Longsword is fast. So you have a nice damage in both hands, and when you don't need the extra speed, you just use the spear. Its perfect.

                                                                                • Anonymous

It should be noted that while it hits like a truck, that is the only compensation for its slow swing speed.
It still feels like a spear in terms of poise damage and hyper armor. Being a frequent user of the Grand Lance in DS2 i hoped for a weapon that does not flich when it hit a wall but this does sadly. And 1h R2 is the only animation that starts with a horizontal swing. Making it less"sword" than its name would suggest. It has a nice hit box though, with longer reach than most. Though no animation like Arstors spears WA that steps forward. The lightning has a much shorter range than the Dragon Slayer Spear but is alot easier to aim with. I like it alot though its a bit tricky to use. At least it feels somewhat meek for the weapon of choice of a war god.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

WA is great against players trying to run around you for backstabs. You can switch the direction at where the lightning strikes as soon as your character does the lunging upward animation

                                                                                    • Anonymous

Im pretty sure when get a kill with the weapon art (the lightning bolt) you get increased souls by 20% has anyone else seen this?

                                                                                      • I recently started using this thing and it's surprisingly good. I'm using a dex/faith build and this thing fits perfect. The WA hits around 800+ for me at 40 faith, plus its a weapon buff for a decent time. I wish the charged one handed R2 was a poke or slam instead of a swing, but that's a small critique.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

this is a great weapon but for the weight it requires, i feel like i could get use out of something else. They should either lower the weight or buff the dex/faith scaling. not both but maybe one of them. or just increase the base damage.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

the lighting strike hits immidiatly when the weapon is hold up. Not like it is in the NK fight were the lightning strike is comming down with a little delay to catch panic rolers. I was so used to the NK mechanic that people could basically kill me in PvP only with the special ability of the spear.

                                                                                            • Anonymous
