Dragonslayer's Axe is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

Axe favored by Creighton the Wanderer, infamous deserter of the Knights of Mirrah.

Called Dragonslayer's Axe for the lightning that pulsates within its blade, but Creighton used it to slay men.

Skill: Warcry
Let out a spirited warcry that temporarily boosts attack, and pierce through shields to inflict direct damage.

Notes and Tips:

  • Can be Infused and Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • Be sure to complete Sirris´ questline to the point, where you fight off an invader (Creighton) in her World. The summoning sign to help her is located at the bridge to Irithyll, where you first encounter Sulyvahn's Beast.
  • Blessed infusion adds Faith scaling to both physical and Lightning damage.
  • Was previously named the Dragonslayer Crescent Axe in Dark Souls 2.

Location/Where to Find

  • From the Church of Yorshka bonfire that you come across in Irithyll of the boreal valley head into the graveyard area to the left of the bonfire. Here head straight to the item on a tree and go to the right until you can't go any further. If you have an ember active you will be invaded by Creighton and he will drop the axe. This invasion can only occur after progressing through Sirris of the Sunless Realms' questline and defeating Creighton the Wanderer on the Irithyll bridge. Invasion is not possible if Pontiff Sulyvahn has been defeated.

At 40 str/dex refined has the same AR as uninfused axe. Also scales better as sharp for some reason, similarly to Lothric knight weapons. Miyazaki, why?

      • Anonymous

This thing was a monster in DS2 and still remains a monster in DS3, amazing in DLC SL1 runs too when you get the dex ring to use it

        • Anonymous

Knickers to all this PvP squabbling. Use it in PvE. Just as good. Wreck the Abyss Watchers for people with it.

          • So it turns out. If you didn't picked up the Dragonslayer's Axe while being summoned by SIrris, you still get another chance to obtain this weapon. Past the Church of Yorshka at the graveyard with invisible hollows, you get invaded by Creighton the Wanderer and if killed u get this weapon.

            • Anonymous

Too bad I forgot to pick it up while in Sirris world. I guess it's lost untill ng+. :D Also too bad it's supposed to be my axes playthrough :|

Please note, that if you've failed Sirris the Giant ****wit whore's questline you're permanently locked out of optaining this weapon. Just goes to show this dumb **** questline needs more failsafes FROM!

So I just noticed an interesting(mildly) thing about this weapon. While 1h, If you sprint and heavy attack or leap attack(forward and L2 simultaneously) and follow up quickly with a light attack, you'll do the charging light attack(same as if you sprint and R1), not the regular light attack. Kind of a mini combo?

I checked a couple of others to make sure it's not the same with all weapons and I'm not just an idiot(it's my 4th From game, but first run through of ds3). Are there others that behave similarly?

But this ax is not a Creighton ax that this is a Shieldless Lothian ax Description of the ax in Dark Souls 2: The beloved black ax of the gallant Shieldless Lothian, formerly of Forossa.

No warrior matched the ferocity of unbeatable Lothian, but he abruptly retired from the battlefield and was never heard from again. Some say that he grew tired of the frailty of human foes, and set off to slay the legendary dragon.

This thing is a monster. It can carry you through most of the game. Fast, strong, innate lightning damage and infusable. Shame you get it relatively late. In DSII, a Lightning Blacksmith's Hammer +10 was the strongest weapon in the game (not in terms of pure AR or anything, but the weapon that could destroy the highest number of enemies and bosses). I feel like this is DSIII's version of that. Being able to infuse it makes it versatile. For most of the late game I found myself switching back to it because few weapons could top it.

Can’t think of any build that doesn’t benefit from this weapon. You just need a trusty, fast and hard hitting lightning weapon and this one’s it.

                          • Anonymous

WHAT THE ****, on a quality, 40/40 build, at +10, "sharp" infusion makes this thing deal more damage than the "heavy" one.

I miss this weapon in elden ring. I'm not a twink, but this was the ultimate faith melee weapon. Casting lightning blade on this was good times.

80% of all the invasions i get (and i like getting invaded) are with this axe and this axe only. i understand the will to win and overcome with the only bestest weapon there is, but doesn't it get boring? i wouldn't mind getting killed and pointed down by a pkcs user at this point, would be some variety at least

                                • Anonymous

Raw Dragonslayer's Axe + Lightning Blade nets you some serious AR. Helps my Herald character wipe bosses relatively easy. For pvp I would recommend picking up Lightning Stake & Lightning Spear w/ Sunlight Talisman to mix things up. Whenever someone tries to get in close use the talisman's perseverance skill to cast Lightning Stake w/ poise, then bash them with some r1's from the axe, maybe a lightning spear for roll catcher to finish them off.

such a ****ing slept on weapon in high level pvp, I'm pumping out almost 850 ar (with buffs) on a 130 character

I'm sitting at 40 faith and just discovered this weapon on the wiki. Got super stoked and re-specced my stats for it, before I realized that I had sold it at some point :-(

                                      • Anonymous

it performs incredibly on my faith build
at base requirements + 60 FTH blessed infusion gets a respectable 502 AR one handed and with no WA. lightning infusion only gets 10 more AR, so id rather get the regen
using it raw and buffing it with lightning blade with yorshka chime +10 gives a huge 718 AR for just an axe with max damage achievable being 745 (2-handed + WA)

                                        • Anonymous

I don't ever summon when I'm not fighting a boss, so seeing an invader that is using this at sl20 makes me go "OH ****"

                                          • Anonymous

Imagine being so bad at PvP you have to gift this to your low level player in order to win at low levels. I ain't even mad, it's just baffling to me. Don't play the game.

Is sharp a good infusion for this? I’m looking for a good “heavier” dex weapon to try besides the Astora gs. Any other recommendations are appreciated

                                              • Anonymous

Great weapon, I totally agree that it's the best weapon in the game for someone new to the game trying to get the hang of things. As this weapon is only good as a raw weapon (unless you have 50+ dex, then you can make it sharp, however, that's pretty crazy because at 50 dex there are massively better opinion than this, so it would be absurd to use at that point) which makes it ideal for newcomers. Creating a fire longsword early, the deep battle axe that you find early, and the raw boardsword or mace depending on personal taste, you have then have all the most important elemental weapons once you get this and a couple options for good pure physical damage as well. Takes you through your first playthrough with ease.

My build is a sharp dragonslayer axe with black fire orb, carthus flame arc, frozen weapon, and whatever other weapon I need. This is op agains most enemies and only really got stuck on dancer after getting it. I struggled with pontiff but as soon as I grabbed this weapon I destroyed him.

                                                  • Anonymous

Easy mode for first playthrough. Even midir falls to this. I really wish I knew about this weapon and quest when I was new to the game. Only negative thing I can state about this weapon, is that raw is the only good infusion for it, otherwise it's pointless, it does not scale in the slightest. I'm at 40 str/ 40 dex, and raw still wins out over refined. But that's the only negative thing I can think of, and besides, by the time you hit SL 120 you should be able to figure out a proper build that you like to play, in which case this will not be your primary weapon.

I missed this weapon cuz i killed pontif early had forgotten all about the invasion in the church :-( oh well NG+
Realized it after it was too late...
Wish we coukd get invaded whike embered as well...

In case anyone else is having problem with Creighton not invading (despite following the Sirris quest to a fault, being embered etc.) make sure you walk right up to the grave where a corvian is kneeling. The one behind which is an undead bone shard. But the key is to run around the grave counter-clockwise WITHOUT attack the corvian. When you get the message that he invaded, then you man kill the bird. I'm not sure how or why it is related, but i managed to get Creighton to spawn only on my 3rd playthrough and with many tries.

Easiest build in the world. Knight, use any raw weapons you want but make sure you plan to save upgrade materials enough to get this axe to it's highest possible level as soon as you get it (+7 or +8), making sure to save one raw gem, and they can be farmed in the beginning of the game. Make sure to follow Sirris's questline to a tee, otherwise you are screwed. Get this weapon, infuse with raw, upgrade it with highest priority and buy all the lightning resin you can. LvL vigor and end to 40/40 and the stats required to wield this weapon obviously. At SL 73 your build is fully complete. If you wanna LvL up more you can put points into whatever you like, but at SL 73 you have a character that can take and dish out massive damage (483 AR). Effective in both PvP and very effective in PvE, it will carry you to new game +3 without issue. If you decide to invest in faith, possibly higher.

You can use any combination of rings you want, recommend the ring of favor (of course), RoSP in PvE, then whatever you want. Cheers, you have the easiest build in the world.

Lightning Clutch ring with ring of steel +3 makes it even more ridiculous around 660 AR with raw infusion and pine. Works good in both PvE and PvP, unless the invader is also rocking a +10 raw. Have someone drop the lightning clutch because you don't get it until late game.

                                                            • Anonymous

This is by far the best raw weapon in the game. At +10 it rocks a ridiculous 483 AR. It's split game but most enemies in this game are weak to lightning, including 95% of the enemies in the DLCs, and buffing with gold pine ups the AR to 603, which is insane for a raw weapon that only requires 18/14. With the low requirements it makes this the ideal weapon for low SL characters, and can carry you up to NG+2 easily, again insane weapon in PvE. And no one is going to give you any problems with this weapon at early lvls in PvP when you are rocking it buffed at 603. Can't say enough good things about it. For new players, using this weapon is setting the difficulty to easy, but its DS easy so still mad hard. Cheers.

If you're rocking a 60 faith build run raw,blc even if you have 50 50 in strength and dex respectively its only 30 more damage than raw. So minimum requirements maxed buff damage you're sitting around 705 damage (split of course) if you plop on oath and even clutch (8%pvp)you're damage climbs 560 lightning damage + 273 physical netting you 733 then if oathed(pvp5%) 769 damage. This is what I've been getting i think with both buffs it could be less since the game only shows pve damage which this thing is disgusting.

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

The preferred weapon of low SL invaders far and wide.

Not something that really requires any skill to use, moreso just a weapon that in my experience is used to give fresh runs and noobs a hard time.

                                                                      • This weapon got me through all the DLCs on ng and through vanilla up to ng+3 at SL40 solo. A great weapon for those that want to do a low level run (or several) or for the people that suck at PvP and need a crutch though it wont help out the latter very much.

                                                                        • Anonymous

Either way though the dark hand is 10x worse and if you are planning on invading at the High Wall just keep it in your back pocket in case you meet another twink, it's not fun getting 4 shot with improper gear.

                                                                          • Anonymous

PS network name is Trash_Random

                                                                            • Anonymous

That thing has high damage but its not even a good twink weapon tbh. Its stats requirement are too high so you either use 1- 2 ring slots or end up with low HP at SL 15 and under. I absolutely love low level PvP, and this is one the the weapon i know i have an advantage against right of the bath. Its got damn poor reach for how slow it is, limited to weak move set with a next to useless R2 in PvP, and everyone knows you cannot trade against it because of its high damage. Any half decent player can cause just as much if not more mayhem and damage with a raw broadsword just because of the speed and move set.

                                                                              • Anonymous

How are you suppose to fight off this invasion AFTER Sirris questline (which includes killing Aldrich) with Sulyvahn still alive? Doesnt you have to kill Pontiff to get to Anor Londo and Aldrich??

                                                                                • For this reason, this weapon falied for me a couple of times while doing a backstab to a darkwratih, my character started the move, bud the enemy kept striking. Will keep trying, I love this axe from DS2 and would hate to lose it.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Strangely this weapon benefits more from a Sharp infusion than a Refined infusion when Str and Dex are equal. So if you want to use this weapon effectively at high levels (I know it's better on low levels and I admit that's true) then level Dex more than strengt.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

I use this with gold pine resine on my sl5 build, and it's a monster. How are you able to use it on such a low level build? Simple,i use dex and str rings + prisoner's chain and havel's ring +3. This combination allows me to put on a mix of morne's and lapp's armor and stay below 70% equip load.

                                                                                        • Someone on PSN I talked to lately about Dark Souls said he has a lvl10 char that uses this weapon, he has about 1200 HP embered and can use this weapon, he also said if I make such a char everyone will hate me.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                            • Anonymous

If you're gonna twink, you should at least earn the right by actually completing NG++ at low SL.

                                                                                              • I wanted to use this for another SL1 PvE run since I just used the broadsword first time, shame it's available so late due to needing the ring from Archives.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Invade with this and you'll most likely get parried back to the crying forums from whence you came. Fukken casuls

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

You need both hunter's ring and knight's ring to be able to use it, but it provides damage that is well worth it on a SL1 run, including it's ability to be buffed.
