Ethereal Oak Shield is a Shield in Dark Souls 3. It is part of the Ashes of Ariandel DLC.
Charbronze shield used by Millwood Knights that slowly regenerates HP.
This shield appears to be blessed by a great, if faded, image of the ethereal oak.
Skill: Weapon Skill
Equipping this shield in the left hand allows one to perform the Skill of the right hand weapon.
Notes and Tips:
- Can be Buffed but not Infused.
- Upgrades with Twinkling Titanite.
- Comes with an innate HP regen much like a Blessed infusion. It heals 2 HP per tick, each tick interval being 1 second. Upgrading the shield doesn't decrease the tick interval, unlike Blessed infusions. However, the healing over time is equal to a +10 blessed infusion (3 HP per 1.5s) without any upgrades. Stacks with the Sun Princess Ring and other HP regen items and weapons.
- The regen occurs as soon as the shield is equipped. So if you swap rapidly between this shield and another item you'll gain health more quickly.
Location/Where to Find
- Looted from: Painted World of Ariandel - Corpse located on bottom half of the tower after you go up a ladder then go down the stairs. The tower itself is located in the Millwood Ruins after either of the two giant wolf encounters.
- Fextralife Video: Ethereal Oak Shield location
- Video - video starts in the Millwood Ruins. Go into the tower past the first enemy in there, up the round stairs. Climb up the ladder there, then follow the round stairs down.

Good shield for ng 4 or higher. Along with aniris and sun Prinzess ring you can heal up full between fights with bit of patience. Also its 100% dmg block

hell naw we got the swapping to tick heals in elden ring as well

Something tells me these Millwood Knights came from the Lands Between...

humm... there someone can drop this to me? I don't have it nor in the inventory, nor where it should be found in ariandel, and yes i have already checked the bonfire storage, it's not even there

Image of etheral oak? Looks like Elden Ring confirmed years ago...
- Anonymous
this + sun princess ring + blessed = prepare the ganker's cannon as spear of the church
- Anonymous
thought it was just a lame shield with free blessed infusion, but no, its actually pretty good.
100 phys absorption, and 70 just in case those fth builds get too cocky.
- Anonymous
The biggest down side to this shield is that the value trade for upgrading is minuscule to the point of negligence. Only getting 2 stability for 10 Twinkling Titanite is seriously pathetic for an upgrade, let alone a Slab for the last 1 stab. Sure, 3 points is still an increase, but you're better off wearing base Ring of Favor at max NG. Go ahead and max it out if you have the ore to waste. But the difference is so small, you might as well leave it unupgraded.

Looks a lot like the Chaos Shield from DS2. Tbh this shield is my favorite amongst the medium ones. Good HP regen, very useful in early runs and it has 100% physical absorption and weapon art ability as well. What more do you want? Sure, it's a bit sad that the shields regen tick doesn't decrease with upgrades but that's okay for a good Allrounder.

Tested it out: it heals you even if worn on the back, like Grass Crest Shield, which recovers your stamina.
- Anonymous
just to confirm. REINFORCE DOESN'T INCREASE STABILITY. Is that a bug or intented?
- Anonymous
Gotta echo the comments to do a blind run to get the Shield. Some friends suggested I do so and it was the best thing I could have done. For later runs it may not be as useful but it's so helpful for early on in the game...especially since you can get it before the Farron Woods and not have to worry about constant poison.

PvE best shield in the game hands down, not even close for all reasons mentioned. For new players especially, as soon as you reach the cleansing chapel bonfire you get access to the Ashes of A DLC. At which point I highly recommend making a suicide run for this shield. Google where to find it. It might take a few tries because the enemies here are end game level, but you don't need to fight any bosses to get it and you can quickly homeward bone out as soon as you pick it up. Your life will then get considerably easier the rest of the way. Not really necessary to upgrade it, so save you Twinks for something better, and this will save you a lot of healing resources, especially in combo with the Sun P ring you get later. I really wish I knew about this shield my first playthrough. And you only need 12 str to wield it!!!!

In my opinion a very nice shield for everyone who barely has the strength requirement or has to watch his weight. I prefer this on my sorcerer. With enough stamina it also protects quite solid against magic, lightning and dark. Cant complain, it has its mentioned strengths and weaknesses, which are low stability and low fire resistance. Also looks good.

Why would I use ever bother with Ancient Dragon Shield with this thing in the game? All the best equipment are found in the DLCs, it's borderline pay2win
- Anonymous
The reason this shield is highly rated is that it's the only shield in the game that can have full 100% physical block and regen simultaneously. If you were to infuse other shields, their physical block would drop to 95% or so. That doesn't seem like a big deal, but it will be the difference between life and death when your Tears of Denial pops and they start spamming Throwing Knives, Church Guardian Shiv, Splintering Bolts, Lothric SS/Twin Princes' GS beam WA, and other types of physical damage before you can get enough HP from another Blessed shield. Plus this shield has wonderfully low requirements (12 STR, 5 units weight) to get use out of.

Is it just me or does not meeting the strength requirement for this shield basically not even matter? I just fought Pontiff with a base level sorcerer (SL 6) and this shield kept me from getting one-shot multiple times.

Every tryhard's favourite shield because dlc has the best weapons of their class, yes i'm salty i already spoiled the dlc for myself and i don't want it just because of the op***** it has... the dlcs kinda ruined the balance of weapons and rings, i'll gladly go trough the game twice

Best shield to use with Friede's Scythe and other WA transforming weapons.

Welp, I accidentally wasted 8 twinkling t. for its +4 upgrade.

does really upgrading the shield decreases the tick interval? reddit people claims otherwise
- Anonymous
Hmmmmmm... Hp regain as soon as the item is equipped... It tells me to swap between 2 hp regainers, but.. Would it also work if I spammed the equip - unequip button....
Hmmm.... A riddle for the ages .....
- Anonymous
This shield is ABSOLUTELY NOT for upgrading - the health tick is NOT increased

Does this stack with other blessed items? If i was equipped with a right handed blessed item, for example.

third best medium shield in the game imo. Others are obviously black knight and lothric knight

Wielding Creighton's axe alongside this shield is pretty awesome looking

honestly think this shield is insane in a hp regen build. not as much stability as the BKS maybe but you get 100% physical block, 120 hp/min, and it weighs 2.5 less. take this with anri's straight sword, blessed weapon, and sun princess ring? PHEW it's some good stuff. an actually viable choice over the ancient dragon greatshield which doesn't have 100% physical block and weighs more.

120hp per min (+10 blessed parrying dagger, 3 per tick)
120hp per min (unupgraded shield, 2 per tick, ticks faster than dagger)
+5'd the shield since I'mma use it anyways, still 120hp per tick.

Looks very similar to a certain popular Dark Souls 1 shield with a similar tree motif on the face of it.

Does the healing effect scale with the + like some other effects do?
- Anonymous
the shield counters poison 100% when unupgraded (i haven't tested if upgrade increases the health regen).
- Anonymous
Yes! I use a blessed health regen build and now I can use a lighter cooler looking shield than the Ancient Dragon Shield.
- Anonymous
healing rate is 2 per second, matches most other healing items.
- Anonymous
Location: On the lower half of the tower near the ruins just after the first greatwolf encounter. Nearest bonfire is most likely Snowfields or possibly Rope Bridge Cave.

someone please edit this in: Upgrades with twinkling titanite
Phys atk. : 103 / 115 / 123 / 144 / 162 / 180
stability : 50 / 51 / 51 / 52 / 52 / 53
Str Scaling : D / D / D / D / D
HP Regen is 2hp/sec, same as ancient dragon shield.

100% physical block AND a built-in healing factor? If that information is correct, then that would rank this shield as a straight upgrade over the Ancient Dragon Greatshield. The only thing that the greatshield does better is negligibly higher elemental resistances, slightly higher stability, and reasonably higher durability.
- Anonymous
It has 103 base damage. It blocks 100% which could always still be wrong. Just saying my dude
I highly doubt this shield has 103% physical block, and it looks like whoever edited it put the defense stats in the wrong column, too. I'm just going to assume they got everything backwards and switch them around?
I also doubt it has 100 physical block. At least, I seriously hope it doesn't. Will see for myself in either 2 days or 24 minutes, I guess.

They left the lands between and took the only 100% block teardrop shield with them :(
