Giant Door Shield is a Shield in Dark Souls 3. It is part of The Ringed City DLC.




Unusually shaped paired greatshields resembling great doors

Heirlooms of the knight who was known as the protector of the meek, yet who failed to protect anyone.

Skill: Lockout

Get a stalwart defense, and shield bash, or strong attack for a heave that holds shields to block nearly all damage.





Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Buffed but can be Infused.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • The moveset is similar to the Orma and Reeve's Greatshields when powerstanced in Dark Souls 2.
  • Possesses high overall damage reduction, with its weakness being fire.
  • While blocking using the Weapon Art, the regular R1 covers a decent amount of space and stuns targets hit during the charge. This makes it good to chase targets that are highly mobile.



Location/Where to Find

  • The Ringed City: Just past the Earthen Peak Ruins bonfire, to the right of the first Angel is a shack. Down the path to the left is a corpse with this shield. It is at the very end of the path near the cliff's edge. Video Example

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X". 
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped. 
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

      Actually a pretty fun and complex weapon for souls standards. Your main attack in PVE is the 2hand L1 which blocks while you attack with only a small frame at the beginning of the animation where you can take damage. but If you hold down L2 during this attack you will automatically go into a block, skipping the relatively long block animation you normally have. you can combo a block into another L1 or an R1 and basically be immune to damage for as long as you have stamina left. I've never felt safer fighting scary enemies like outrider knights and red eye enemies.

        Started NG+ with this today on a funny “imma slap crap with a shield” absolutely destroyed dancer. Great thing was I got an invader, he took 5 mins to find me outside of Greirats cell, charges at me with a Farron Greatsword and two tap the guy with weapon art because he had no idea what the hell was happening….great meme weapon 11/10 would bonk again.

            Rolling L1 is absolutely OP. Great for punishing roll catchers, as soon as your i-frames end, you'll get block frames with major damage. The L2-R1 is only useful at certain ranges tho, and when your opponent is locked in animations like combos and stuff. Wear good fire resistant armor when using. The running L1 is also super great and looks badass af. In general, way too OP for a meme weapon.

                The second l1 attack is so fun, and actually catches people off-guard sometimes aswell. They'll try to exploit the opening after your l1, but instead of getting a free hit, you reel back while they take their swing, and then smush them between your doors, turning them into a vertical pancake.

                • imagine being andre, just smacking the estoc you've been smacking for eons, and then the unkindled walks up to you and slams two huge ass doors onto your anvil and tells you to reinforce them to +10 and infuse them with a heavy gem

                      Is there any way to beat it as a sorcerer? It literally takes 0 damage despite 75% reduction both in dark and magic. Also scythes and shotels do 0 damage for me for some reason

                        most people talk about how annoying this weapon is to fight against but very few talk about how annoying it can be to fight with. I had a guy who ran out of estus so they just kept running away and throwing consumables at me. I literally considered pulling out a straight sword but I eventually just managed to catch them with a running attack.

                          a good combo is l1, l1, l2 charge. this can usually catch roll spammers, be careful how you use the change because some people know how to properly evade it

                            it's kinda funny this get's an A in dex with a sharp infusion cause to even wield it you'd need 45 strength since you can't actually two hand it and to make it better then a strength infusion you'd need 70 dex and 45 strength

                              I mede a tank build with full havle, havel sheild on off hand for weapon art, door shields and saints talisman so I can use the miracle that gets the attention of enemy's with a bunch of rings to boost health, poise and physical absorption. For pvp I use the ring that reduces back stab damage. The build works great.

                                  A story how useful this shield. Yesterday, I was in high wall of Lothric to join a fight club. I mistook covenant and got summoned as a Sunbro. I decided to watch the host and the invader fight. The host was losing and I thought the fight was gonna be over. It didn't because the scrub host ran away down the stairs and chugged an Estus. We all know that's disrespectful in duels. This went about 2 minutes until Blade of the Darkmoon arrived. The host yet chugged another Estus. The Blade of the Darkmoon to my surprise didn't gank the invader. What she did instead was pull out this shield and blocked the left staircase the one leading to the another bonfire I also excused myself, went down the left staircase leading to the elevator shortcut and killed some mobs and triggered the Pus of man transformation. I decided to block the elevator shortcut with this shield. The host fell into my trap and ran away to the pus of man. The invader now pissed at the host also decided to pull this shield out and block him from escaping the area where the pus of man is. Luckily for him and unfortunately for us, he spam so Firebombs. Obviously knowing his R1 spams and Firebombs spams, the host probably ran out of Estus instead of fighting the invader fair and square, Alt+F4. After a while I got hatemail saying how useless I am for not helping him gank. I am a Sunbro, not a Gankbro. If I gank, I will gank scrubs like him with this shield.

                                    I got trapped when I invaded 2 doorman using this shield on the lift. One was blocking the bottom the one one was top exit. I almost use black crystal separation but I try using fist and punch the door 2 times, they immediately stop guarding and the host(the one guarding the top) killed himself with sign of avarice.

                                        Best weapon in DS3. Use heavy or refined infusion depending on your build. Always 2hand. The only attacks you should be doing are the L1 combo, the WA R1, rolling R1, and running R1. I usually use the Ethereal Oak Shield offhand for health regen. Your only weakness is fire damage.

                                          Dont use wa s r2. It locks you in place and gains 100% all absorption at the cost of fp, but you re vulnerable from the sides and stability doesnt gain any bonus, so when you get guard-broken, you ll receive double damage from whatever the shield was blocking before.

                                                  In the Ringed City at the masoleum overlook, wear the obscuring ring and block off the "safe zones" so the host and his posse get shredded by the ghost archers. Just don't make a trolling montage off of this, there's enough of those already. Also, this isn't a 100% foolproof invasion strat, it's just a way to have some fun by screwing with hosts.

                                                  • So is there even a reason to use this over the moaning shield? I understand it's neat, and it does have a good push for the WA R1, but it's unbuffable and you could certainly find a weapon to use in the right hand instead. Maybe there's something I'm missing, but I just don't see the upside besides the shove.

                                                      It uses the 1.5x str bonus when "two handed". Tested with both 66 and 99 str, AR was higher with 99 str in stat screen, but attacks did exactly the same damage against enemies.

                                                          Old King's great hammer + Knight Slayers ring. The trade is by NO means worth it for the shields. Profaned flame is even better if you get the timing right.

                                                            I always see this weapon and immediately think "This will be a fun fight", as the only useful thing about this shield is it's weapon art which for the record has the same range as the Greatsword. Which leads to a fun game where players constantly back pedal and weapon art spam.

                                                                One thing I just found out is that you won't be able to use this thing unless you meet that stat requirement. Meaning you won't be able to use this just by two-handing this shield. That is likely because the thing is a paired greatshield, thus meaning that two-handing the thing is normal, and not strength boosting.

                                                                    This is cancer in PVP. I win 75% of the time with it not even upgraded. The problem is the ungodly hitbox... the phantom stagger can stun people at washing pole length and guarantee a hit. I carry a blood bandit knife specifically for people using this weapon (and RKPUGS). With that said, fun to play with, fun to fight against... if you have a good sense of humor. Lol.

                                                                      Had a guy use this when I fought the Spear of the Church boss. Unfortunately for him, I was playing on a pyro and Sacred Flame goes through shields. He still put up a great fight despite that.

                                                                              Marvelous offensive weapons
                                                                              The blocking frames in L1s can make short work of even the nastiest PvE knights (plow right through the straight sword and greatsword flurry), and offensive players if you get the timing right. Not to even mention the L2-R1, which charges and blocks attacks all the way through
                                                                              Scythes, whips and fire can destroy you if you play too passively, but with these two babies in hands you really shouldn't be playing passive, unless you are playing the door (duh) with your friends
                                                                              The only thing you really need to be really careful of is backstabs, all the shield's moves leave you pretty open in the back, just like any heavy weapon would.
                                                                              get stamina regen, level up your vitality to be able to standard roll and you are all set.

                                                                                            This shield is not really overpowered, it just requires so much positional skill to use that the people who have learned to use it are really good with it. It has high weight, so if you're trying to get a defensive build going you risk fatrolling, which makes this shield terrible due to not being able to retreat when you are out of stamina. It has high strength requirement, and because of it being a shield/dual wielded 2hing it does not lower the strength requirement. If you are building a meta 100/faithful/watchdogs build then you are wasting a ton of points pumping your strength to 45 that could be used for stamina or health. The low fire resist is extremely obvious to anyone even if they aren't familiar with it because it's a giant WOODEN door, so people pull out their fireballs and papers immediately. L2-R1 doesn't have any phantom range, however the running L1 has a lot- like other weapons commonly used such as Katanas, straight swords, etc. Sure it doesn't make much sense for a short shield to have phantom range, but it would be pretty much impossible to hit anyone with any of your attacks if it didn't. Bottom line, this thing isn't terrible as the running L1 into combos works out fairly well and it's fun to hunker down in a corner if you're part of an invading gank squad battle, but it's not cripplingly overpowered like people are saying it is. If it was you'd see a ton of people using it, but no, they're all using the fancy new dark katana instead.

                                                                                              I love the fact that their joke status has kept them out of the spotlight. They're easily my favorite weapon, and completely Op. That said, for anyone struggling to fight them, try timing your strikes to hit them right after they attack. There's a split second between them when they're not guarded. If they do two attacks, then just unload on them. It's likely that they have low stamina. Shield piercing weapons are also great.
