Harald Legion Knight is an Enemy in Dark Souls 3 The Ringed City DLC.

Harald Legion Knight Description

  • The Harald Legion Knight is a humongous, bloated knight who sought the dark soul. Their armor sank into the dark with the legion, where their cavities bloated in grotesque displays, never again to fit any ordinarily-shaped body.

  • They carry a giant gold-decorated curved sword, which sank into the dark with the legion, where their blades were severely corroded.

Harald Legion Knight Combat Information

  • They are extremely weak to plunging attack.
  • They swing their Curved Great Sword in a rapid succession, however they are extremely vulnerable after their combos.
  • Their attacks deals Slash Damage and Standard Damage.
  • All their one-handed attacks can be parried, their two-handed attacks cannot.
  • When parried, they will fall on one knee similar to how Iudex/Champion Gundyr do when parried. They can be attacked multiple times depending on weapon and be dealt counter damage before being riposted. if they take too much damage to head in the riposte position they will stagger and get up, eliminating the chance to riposte.
  • Weak spot: Black Mass on their head (tested using Black Bow of Pharis from really close proximity: it grants about 33% more damage, e.g. ~200 vs ~150 from single arrow). Hitting it precisely with specific Weapon Arts, throwing items or arrows breaks their attack and doubles the damage.
  • Abyssal creature, therefore weak to Wolf Knight's Greatsword and Farron Greatsword.
  • Weak to Fire Damage and Lightning Damage.
  • Resistant to Physical-type damage and Dark Damage.
  • Immune to Bleed, Frost, Poison/Toxic.
  • Despite their size, they have low Poise.
  • Can't be lured using Alluring skull.
  • Not affected by the Rapport pyromancy.
  • Using Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring and Hidden Body at the same time will make player completely invisible for this enemy, which cannot be said about all Ringed City enemies.

Harald Legion Knight Notes & Trivia

  • Some knights on the stairs in lower section of the Ringed City can be lured to the ladder on the left side when you're facing the big swamp. Just lure them, then climb on the ladder and drop down with plunge attack. They can also be grouped, so sorcerers can use spells like Crystal Soul Spear or Chaos Bed Vestige for mass damage.
  • Uses Harald Curved Greatsword, but doesn't drop it.
  • The plunging attack causes an animation, similar to the Ancient Wyvern.
  • Their attacks can damage every other enemy on the map and dark spirit, you can use them to clear all enemies except their own kind.
  • Plunge attacks cause an animation that makes their head explode, but sometimes does not kill them.
    • If you're wearing Hornet Ring, the plunging attack will almost always kill them or use Chaos Dagger +10 which would kill them even without Hornet Ring,
  • Normally located near edges of cliffs. Try to get to the cliff for the plunge, as it kills them or brings them close to death, as well as staggering them.
  • Their set looks similar to Slave Knight set.
  • Harald Legion Knight has 5457 HP at NG+7

if you want to kill them super easily, they get one-tapped by long plunge attacks, there's even an animation for it. i was using heavy astora gs +10, no idea if it oneshots with a less damaging weapon but i assume it does

If you are farming these use throwables, they often land on the head causing stagger and extra damage (the Church Guardian Shiv hits always the head)

        • Anonymous

extremely weak to headshots, particularly greatbows. Three or 4 shots of a maxed out greatbow will put one down (if youre going for bow only runs)

          • Anonymous

In areas where you can't get enough vertical clearance to plunging attack, do a jumping attack (forward+R2). Just like the Ancient Wyvern cheese, it triggers the grab attack

One particular solution; use the Millwood-Machine gun glitch, and spray' em down like you're playing "Zombies" on CoD.

to do that, you need 99 Str/Dex, and a minimum of 30 Fth/Int

If this enemy can one-shot you, you can one-shot it right-back.

There's something extremely funny about the fact that an army of giant, fearsome warriors who sank into the abyss and became corrupted in their hunt for the dark souls, are called "Harold".

The Harold Legion. That has to be the least intimidating name for an army I've ever heard LMAO Only fromsoft could design characters like this

If you're having difficulty with them, two-hand a Spiked Mace (mine is +10 but i don't think you need to max it out). Every hit will cancel their attacks and stagger them, all you need to do is spam until your stamina is out, then repeat.

                  • Anonymous

It should be noted that they deal damage to invaders even if the giant seed is not active but will not target the invader

Does the Hornet Ring prevent you from acting out the Riposte animation after you Parry these big bois? I was having absolutely no trouble Parrying and then Riposting without the Hornet ring equipped, but then i thought, "hey i'll put on the ring to make this faster!" but every time i put on the Hornet Ring, the Riposte never happens and i only perform a regular light attack. Been trying this for around an hour, alternating between equipping the Hornet Ring and then removing it and it's really confusing me. Can anybody 100% confirm or deny that this is an actual thing in game, or am I just a complete pleb??

3 that spawn next to ring city streets . Super easy to pull 1 at aa time back peddling and spamming cbv.. you're welcome... Killed 63 so far... No pieces of armor let a lone what I'm looking for 8 gems though.. rng dislikes me at times

super usefull combat information: they get staggered by a singele gs and cgs charged r2. no strat whatsoever needed. walk to them and spam charged r2 if you are having a hard time against them, make yourself a claymore or something and they will be like "whats happening to me?!". or even better: great wooden hammer. every gh r1 staggers these beautiful guys.

Of course Rapport doesn't work on them.

Why is it game devs always make the cool stuff not affect the enemies you would actually want to use them on...

The first one you come across to the left of the dreg bonfire can be reliably one-shot with a plunging attack. Run up the stairs from where it jumps down ( while it's still jumping down). Jump on it as soon as its done being staggered from the fall. Using +10 Sharp AGS 55 Dex. Coiled Sword back up to bonfire and repeat. I'm using a crystal sage rapier in my offhand and I got the set in around 20 mins.

love these big boys. also i like how they'll get ready for a third swing, and then just give up and drop their sword

I went to the ringed city to get the dark soul. But I didn’t want to wake up filianore so I just hung around the ringed city and became fat like these guys and picked up a set of their armor that was just laying on one of their corpses.
Now I’m a member of the legion and I kill all intruders. Invaders get killed as well but I’m too fat and lazy to Care anymore So **** em they were in my anyway. But enough talking I’m going to sleep so don’t come by, cause I like sleep.

They aren't difficult to kill since they can get 1-shot with a plunging attack. It's the tediousness of waiting for them to fall into your trap that gets me. Especially since it takes a good minute for them to do their "patrol"

A few minutes ago I invaded the Ringed City as an Aldritch Faithful (but I used the Red Eye Orb) and I was killed by one of these guys on the stairs as collateral damage. How I got hit by that? Idk. The Seed of a Giant Tree wasn't active either, I checked. Funny thing is, moments after I died I got summoned into the boss arena for Haflight, even though my covenant was still Aldritch ¯\_(·-·)_/¯

the only thing that makes these things bearable to farm is that they drop titanite chunks, which i don't want to buy a ton of for upgrades. otherwise, they're some of the worst enemies in the game. (by the way, just go for the guys in the dreg heap, from the earthen peak ruins bonfire. the run is pretty quick compared to what you fight through in the ringed city, and there's no risk of getting ganged up on.)

The Onikiri and Ubadachi weapon art jumps high enough to hit their head and do the extra damage (NOT the plunging attack, just the bonus damage and bonus stagger.) On ng+4, with a sharp onikiri and ubadachi at 40/40, I could do about 800 damage to them with this. Could be useful if you can't line up a plunging attack I guess.

Dark Gem (Extremely Rare): Got like 14 of those while farming the set and I didn't even get all the pieces. Harald Set (Rare): two gauntlets, one legging and no chest piece after at least two hours of farming with 385 discovery.

These guys get the most polarizing reaction from me. Calm and cool to absolute panic since they're slow and easy to dodge but hit like a freakin tank. "Oh, these guys are easy. I just killed five of them without problem." *Get hits once*************************"

a regular enemy deals more damage than the hardest bosses in the game , this is the definition of lazy and cheap design .

i actually love these enemies. they're like a version of the shark giant from bloodborne, except designed by humans rather than the devil himself

in same status nameless king hit me 4-5 hit , i die herald knight just hit me 1-2 hit , i die so herald better than nameless king? wtf!

                                                    • Anonymous

I think this page should mention how effective crossbows are against these *****ers. IF they're not in an attack animation a crossbow will stagger them and do bonus damage without making them sprint at you. You can slowly back away in almost total safety. If they start to sprint or start an attack either back away more and carry on or do a bit of real fighting. Don't crossbow their attacks it won't interrupt them, only when they're walking and not in another animation

                                                      • Anonymous

I'm seeing a lot of people complain about how you can't fight these guys 3-6 on one. You're not supposed to do that. Get your bow, shoot one, move back from the others so they don't aggro, then simply watch what attacks are coming your way, hit when you have an opening. Takes me about 10-12 hits with my fully upgraded WKG (wolf knight greatsword) on NG with 40 strength and 36 dexterity. Not hard, just remember the winged knights.

These enemies are the reason why i hate so much invaders in ringed city, i like pvp and never use way of blue everytime i got invaded because it's always fun even if i lose sometimes, but most of the time almost all invaders always hiding behind those enemies when looking for a chance to attack me while i am distracted or then going to judicator at the lake full with those preachers and not move an inch at all while shooting their arrows on me waiting for me to come on them..

                                                          • Anonymous

These things can be parried. Because when I see a huge, fat, armored monstrosity with Stephen Hawking's career for a face lumbering toward me with a sword that no human could realistically lift (let alone swing), my first thought is totally gonna be "I'll bet my 8 inch parrying dagger will prove useful in this scenario."

                                                            • Anonymous

Imagine if the plunging crit was as random with the Ancient Wyvern as it is with these guys. With around 1/10 chance of success, how many would opt to fight the Wyvern the traditional way? And don't tell me to plunge from the front, there is no consistency.

                                                              • Anonymous

Easy mode: Large Club (with fire buffs) + Chloranthy Ring +3 & other stamina buffs. You can stunlock them almost infinitely depending on your stamina bar and regeneration with just R1s though make sure you don't use two R1s as a combo. Just hit once, move a little and hit again. Unless the knight does an immediate body press into the air, they can't do anything if you keep your timing right.

                                                                • Anonymous

Honestly, I just found a new favorite enemy because they are so fun to fight once you know how. First, most of the time they won’t seek a path to get to you, they just stand below, so you can just plunge on them which is enjoyable. Next they are super weak to throwing knives and the sort. If you lock on an throw one, it will most likely hit their head which does a bunch of damage and kinda staggers them. I had a bunch of kurikuri things (what’s the name), and each was doing +300 easy. More of a joke once you know this but still fun to plunge on.

                                                                  • Anonymous

The problem is not with these guys individually, it’s when you’re being ganked by 3 of them and can’t roll away for anything.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Honestly didn't find these guys too awful. Their moves are hella telegraphed, and they 'get winded' between combos. However, if an attack lands it can be punishing, especially the uppercut that sends you up in the air (hitbox on that can be bs sometimes)

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

I was wondering why I couldn't do it the first few times I tried, but it was because I was used to normal plunging attacks working the opposite way (your weapon has to land on the enemy, not your body)n

                                                                                • Anonymous

It seems as though the plunging critical only works if you do a jumping attack off of the ledge, the normal version didn't seem to work.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

I have a love/hate relationship with these dudes. They're easily killed but will happily curbstomp you if you make a mistake. I despise having to make the run down the steps from where you first chat to Shira to the swamp area. Just Knights popping up from everywhere, doing their gorilla rage attacks, and they're pretty good at roll catching and straight up blocking you with their ugly, fat bodies. The number of times I got a train ran on me by them was crazy.

There's an easier way to get to the swamp if you go right into the alleyway of curse hollows, sprint down it to the area with the Ringed Knight and the dagger-wielding hollows, across the bridge where the chatty locust preacher sits above you, then dropping down onto the ledges on your right before hopping into the swamp.

That way, you can avoid the worst of the Legion Knight sword slam shenanigans and make it down to the bonfire. There's no way the developers intended you to fight six Legion Knights at once in melee, so I assume this is one of the intended pathways.

                                                                                      • I thought these guys were bull*****until I figured out the plunging attack lol, I was wondering how the hell you could take on six at once in the city streets. Got me good there. That area is basically insta-win for invaders if they run into the crowd of them though, unless you have a seed. Though it is kinda funny how their attacks damage everyone

                                                                                        • Anonymous

I know it says that Dark Gems are extremely rare, but I got about 7 in 30 minutes while wearing all the luck boosting items.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

"Long ago, only the Undead served as slave knights, warriors used as fodder in the bleakest of battles. They grew decrepit, their skin charred black and their bones twisted. Eventually they went outright mad, but were never relieved from duty." I couldn't help but notice that the Harald Legion's armor looks strangely similar to the Slave Knight set, minus the hood, obviously.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

It seems that the first one you encounter at the Dreg Heap has a 100% chance of dropping titanite chunks, with a slight chance of dropping 2 per kill. In about 10 kills I've got 12 chunks with only 107 ID, and the first one is very easy to farm as well. I'm willing to bet the same applies to the other ones.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

Soooo why hasn't there been any patches concerning them hitting invaders? Cause most of the time these chubby meatball *****s kill me rather than the host.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

Maybe there are more weapons capable of this.

The insta-kill plunge attack has a special animation and is different from a normal plunging attack. What you need to do is to plunge and land directly on their dark foggy heads. If you botch it up or didn't exactly land on the head, you will just do a normal plunging attack with normal damage. If successful, your character will latch onto the head and shove a sword into the Knight's face, dealing insane damage (instalkill with Wolf Knight GS on NG+7). Very Ancient Wyvern-ish style. Also like Ancient Wyvern, you could for some reason fail to fall on the head and take the plunge to your doom.
