Hawkwood's Swordgrass is a Key Item in Dark Souls 3.

Acquisition
- This item becomes available from Blacksmith Andre after acquiring the Twinkling Dragon Torso Stone1, which is found at the furthest altar in Archdragon Peak.
Hawkwood's Swordgrass Usage
- This item directs the player to Hawkwood's location, which is where the Abyss Watchers boss fight occurred. Defeating him will reward the player with the Twinkling Dragon Head Stone.2
Hawkwood's Swordgrass Locations
- Given to you by Blacksmith Andre when you obtain the Twinkling Dragon Torso Stone, Speak to Hawkwood first to receive the Farron Ring. He will leave after reloading at which point you can speak to Andre to receive the item. Losing will result in loss of the Torso stone.3
Notes
- 1 Hawkwood becomes unavailable as a summon after picking up this item.
- 2 This item is NOT required to duel Hawkwood. It is simply to help the player locate him.
- 3 While losing to Hawkwood will lose you the Twinkling Dragon Head Stone, it is not permanently lost. When you are victorious, Hawkwood will drop both Twinkling Dragon Stones.
Trivia
- Hawkwood was once a member of the Undead Legion of Abyss Watchers, who belong to the Watchdogs of Farron covenant. This is why he uses swordgrass to deliver this message to the player.

This poor dude tends to be my punching bag, it's hilarious when I "test" something and he aggros then chases me all over Firelink (because I don't want to kill him) and then he has no idea what to do when I push him on one of the thrones, he's just stuck. xD

He's pretty easy to beat at low SL by toxicing him and just pelting him with undead hunter charms to prevent his estus.

Andre isn't giving me any dialogue. I got the dragon stones, switched to the watchedogs of farron covenant, quit and reloaded the game, and exited and returned to the shrine.

after i get the twinkeling stone, i go to the firelink shrine like im supposed to to talk with andre, i have the stone, and the old fart wont do the dialouge. what do i do? hawkwood isn't leaving and andre won't talk about hawkwood leaving.

I have the un-patched original ps4 version of this game and in ng+ hawkwoods duel invitation began early prior to even reaching prior to reaching arch-dragon peak. I checked with Andre after defeating Wolnir and the quest was initiated.It's likely because of my original playthroughs torso stone still being in my inventory during ng+. I'm not sure if this will cause him to become un-summonable later on in the game, although as far as I know he's only summonable in archdragon peak.

Is this quest line bugged? I had the twinkling torso stone but nothing ever happened with blacksmith Andre.

what happens if i killed him before the dragon stomes how can i get the dragon stones then?

If he does kill you and takes the torso stone, But return and kill him you'll get the torso and head after his defeat.
