Homing Soulmass is a Sorcery in Dark Souls 3. To cast a Sorcery you must use a Staff or Special Weapons that can cast Sorceries.
Sorcery developed by Big Hat Logan, the great sorcerer who left the Dragon School in an age long past.
Releases a homing soulmass.
This sorcery may offer a clue as to what Logan sought, but further investigation suggests its attraction to living things mirrors the nature of the dark.
How to Get Homing Soulmass in Dark Souls 3
- Bought from Orbeck of Vinheim for 6,000 souls after giving him Logan's Scroll.
Dark Souls 3 Homing Soulmass Notes, Tips & Trivia
- Each soulmass inflicts (Spell Buff x 0.49) magic damage before resistances.
- Increasing your Intelligence increases the amount of Soulmasses.
- 20 Int = 3
- 24 Int = 4
- 31 Int = 5
- Throwing an Alluring Skull or casting Hidden Body will cause the Soulmasses to not fire at you. However, they will still damage you if you touch them. The same goes for Homing Crystal Soulmass and Affinity.

Trying to figure out the poise damage of this spell. Any help would be appreciated.

I was planning on doing a Ringfinger Leonhardt cosplay, until I noticed how late hall-game soul mass actually is. Does that mean Leonhardt is a twin?

This spell would be absoloutly awesome if it regenerated like the souls of cinders varient, where it would regen 3 time, with a ten second delay between each regen

Shoutout to all the people going into the arena and doing nothing but running away while spamming this and trying to whittle my health down. It's nice to finally find someone I don't feel bad about using healing on and giggling while they disconnect.

Curious. With a Crystal Chime +5 and 35 Faith/35 Intelligence, this spell beats Affinity for damage. Against the hollow outside of Iudex Gundyr, this hits for 99 damage while Affinity only hits for 74 damage under those conditions. Am I missing something here?

The increase from 3 masses to 4 masses happens at 25 int, not 24

25 INT is 4 soulmasses, not four. This "wiki" is terribly inept.

Does the amount of soulmasses increase if you use something like the man-grub's staff (with luck) or the Archdeacon Great Staff (with faith)?

Can someone explain why people turn backwards after the spell or any of the variants is cast? New to the mechanics regarding these types of spells.

The one spell that makes Sorcery perfectly viable in duels, got a primary weapon and this? You're set. Yeah it does less damage than the Crystal variant and Affinity but it's also WAY faster. Also you can use base Soulmass as set up FOR the Crystal or Affinity (or basically any other spell you can think of) so now the cast time on those isn't a problem no more.
You thought sword and board was bad? Try sword and board but now the guy also has 5 magical orbs hovering above his head at all times so if you make the first move you'll either:
A. Get hit by the Soulmass cause you didn't see it coming. Aka eat s h i t.
B. Dodge the Soulmass and get caught by the straight sword instead. Vol 2.
That's just one example, but the whole idea of this spell is passive aggressive control, you set something up before actually attacking and to this end you can time the spell by unlocking and just aiming your character's point of view elsewhere, effectively keeping the Soulmass right there beside you until you decide the time is ripe. Having a good shield with you might be just as beneficial for this since you don't really have to do anything else. Shield up and aimed to the side, when your enemy attacks turn it towards them as suddenly as possible to block the incoming attack while the Soulmass blasts their face off.
In the end you can still punish Soulmass type spells when they're being cast with a crossbow or something, or by faking the user out and having them waste the orbs on proximity where you can catch them with an attack if they try to cast again. It's not unbeatable, but it sure as hell is troublesome to get around if used effectively.
This spell in Demon's Soul's was one of the strongest in the game and could one shot most enemies if all orbs connected. One of my favorite spells, but it is only useful if you are willingly to get close to your enemy. I wish there was some way to control the firing as one issue is that the spell may fire too early.

Definitely the best soulmass spell, but it's received far too late in the game really. In my opinion it should be available at around the Abyss Watchers.

This spell does not have 4 orbs at 24 intelligence. 4th orb is gained at 25 intelligence.

sooo......how do I fire one or 2 orbs like all NPCs sorcerers and crytal sages are able to instead of all at once automatic?
- Anonymous
Probably adds masses at the same rate as it did in the original Dark Souls.

I suddenly want this to be a recurring buff instead of just one cast per soulmass.I don't care if it does the same damage and costs five times the fp, I just want to fire lasers while I fire lasers.

I've got 4 projectiles at level 28 so I assume you get 5 at 30

I have 33 INT and got 5 soul masses. So it must be less than 33, i guess 30. And i have to say that i am very disappointed by the damage it does so far. VERY low damage
More like Homo soul mass
