Irithyll Straight Sword is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.
Straight sword bestowed upon the Outrider Knights of the Boreal Valley. This weapon is enshrouded in frost, and causes frostbite.
Every Outrider Knight one day devolves into a beast, constantly hounded by Pontiff Sulyvahn's black eyes.
Skill: Stance
While in stance, use normal attack to break a foe's guard from below, and strong attack to slash upwards with a forward lunge.
Notes and Tips:
- Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
- Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
- Being a standard straight sword, an effective combo for PvP is R1+R1+R2+R2. While it doesn't true combo, the delay of the first R2 lines up with the duration of a medium roll, letting the attack connect outside of the opponent's i-frames.
- All weapons have motion values assigned to each attack, which are modifiers to AR that are associated with the attack being used.
- The Irithyll Straight Sword has a motion value of 200 on backstab, 250 on riposte, and 60+225 on Hornet Ring riposte. The motion value of a backstab with a straight sword does not change with Hornet Ring.
- The Irithyll Straight Sword has a range of 35.5063xl on the 1h R1 and 35.0193xl on the 2h R1.
- The Irithyll Straight Sword has thrusting R2 attacks when 1h.
- Causes Frostbite
- Does not scale with Luck or Upgrade level
- The weapon is powerful at low levels due to its high base damage and frostbite, but can be used effectively later on due to its long reach.
Softcaps & Scaling:
- Irithyll Straightsword +5
- 1 Handed Stats:
- 12/14 = 253 AR = Base stats
- 12/38 = 302 AR = Dex softcap
- 39/14 = 335 AR = Str softcap
- 39/38 = 384 AR = Overall softcap
- 40/40 = 388 AR
- After Softcaps it gets less than 2 AR per level
- Quality Weapon
- Scales well in both stats
- Gains more from Strength than Dexterity
Location/Where to Find
- Dropped by Outrider Knight in the Undead Settlement zone, located at the bottom of the elevator shaft that hosts Siegward of Catarina just before the Road of Sacrifices.

Makes me sad that I'll never get to power-stance this with the Ringed Knight straight sword. ER straight swords are just bland...
- Anonymous
Am I crazy for thinking a straight sword with good range + innate frost having ~380 AR is fine...? What's with all the 'early game' & 'low damage' comments? And wouldn't early game weapons just be whatever you feel like raw infusing?
- Anonymous
im at dragonslayer armor and i still use this from time to time

Everyone gangsta till the irithyll ss starts the 2h r2 truecombo/rollcatch string.

this weapon carried me through my first playthrough, didn't even know how scaling worked until lategame lmao

This has to be one of the best straight swords imo, it has great range and moveset and damage to supplement this and frostbite is the cherry on top. This MELTS Gael on NG+3 and beyond.

Goes without saying; but if you've got a pyro build, don't forget that this exists.

Gather round lads and harken to me tale of a casual, who began his journey. The casual forged ahead through the ashen cemetery, to the judge where he would be judged, and on that day a journey began, a journey more relative than you think. For the casual had no clue what to do, no clue who he was, or his purpose, his only friends were those of the shrine, and his r1 button, but nonetheless he forged on through the perils of the souls left alive. Until he found a sword, a pure white sword, layerd in frost, it provided comfort and security, and the power it held reassured him. So he trudged on. Until the spirit came, a dark spirit who prayed upon one such as him, but he did not back down, hild his blade tight he spammed like never before, although he fought in vain, that casual learned that day that there are more friends in the world than his r1 button, and that there was more to learn through his adventures. For every great hero and legend started at the bottom, but it's his climb to the top that matters the most.

Hello DS3 player, I am come to you for a little favour, and I will carry this message to everywhere in DS3 community.
There is a glitch that allows you to summon white sign mad phantom in Gael’s Arena (Credit to Dashingsaint), if you keep Shira alived while she invade you (you can escape her simply sprint out her aggro range), you won’t trigger gael boss cutscene, and then you could put down you purple summon white sign or summon other white purple.
Thus, a new fight club is founded, an arena in a long lost dessert under the sunset sky which sprinkle with fainted galaxy.
If you’re watching this, kindly please help me share this and invite any ds3 enthusiast you known to this new fight club, your little effort would be much appreciated.
SL25+2, SL40+4, SL60+6, SL72+8, SL90+10, SL125 Meta, SL 351++, all SL range are acceptable.
Welcome to the Gael’s Sunset Arena, the most beautiful map in the entire series, the last arena at the End of World.
I will await you there, in the End of the World, and we shall fight eternal, shiny and incandescence.
LONG MAY THE DARK SOULS COMMUNITY LIVE

this sword has its meme reputation, and for good reason, but it's really not bad at all on a meta level quality build. Hits decently hard, builds up frost, good range, good old reliable straight sword moveset

Kirk armor, obscurity ring, pontiff eye, cloranthy ring and this sword allowed me to rek so many people in fightclubs.... puts pressure on, guard breaks with the weapon art and the annoying invisible spike rolls makes people panic. Easy to avoid backstabs and without them most people suck at pvp tbh.

When invading this sword is a good indication of a novice player

ppl using this sword in late game areas are usually gods at PVP so becareful befor you point down a guy wearing fallen knight armor and using this sword

admit it, we all used this for a bit on our first playthrough
- Anonymous
Would it be accurate to call this the Drake Sword of Dark Souls 3?
- Anonymous
just equipped this sword and now the fallen knight armour is permanently equipped to my character
- Anonymous
Honestly a great sidearm option for the frostbite effect, then switch to your main weapon for massive damage.

- Anonymous
Actually i really like this sword and in my first playthrough i finished the game with this sword its really powerful but sometimes in pvp you will get destroyed
- Anonymous
While this is the casul weapon for the mediocre scaling, no buffs or infusions, slow frost bite build up, using twinkling titanite, and general consensus I still enjoy using this weapon as a Gael killer, sure many weapons like the lothric knight straight sword may be inherently better in later levels this weapon is simply badass to use and a solid starting load out weapon
- Anonymous
Amazing for early game. Thats really the only way this is viable
- Anonymous
Anyone else annoyed by the fact that you can see the frost effect of this sword from behind objects including the player’s back? The frost effect looks cool but they could stand to tone it down a bit.
- Anonymous
This sword is cool but is kinda mediocre:
Pro:
straight sword
more range than average
pure physical damage
frostbite aux
ok scaling and damage
Con:
On high level frostbite deals almost no damage
takes 5-6 hits to proke frostbite
on quality build consistently out damaged by other straight swords
unbuffable
need twinks, like use that on a black knight sword or something
- Anonymous
Casual, unoriginal and uncool on low lvl. Rare and cool on SL100 ++
Personally i love it's look. Usually I dont like using straight swords in pvp, mostly because they're so good it kind of feels cheap and too easy, but from time to time I make an exception for this sword and fashion.
- Anonymous
you can use this on a sl1 build with knights ring and hoonters ring. sot the best damage considering u cant infuse this, but if you like magic dust coming off your weapon, you should try this. its also good on bosses weak to frost, like thotslayer armour. ironicaly tho u get the hoonters ring AFTER thotslayer so its kinda pointless.
- Anonymous
Somebody should put the fact that you can manipulate the frostbite cool down by using fire every time the frostbite effect triggers. If you freeze an enemy, they lose a % of their hp, but can’t be frostbitten for another ~30 seconds, unless hit with fire, which resets the cool down. You can just spam r1 til they freeze, hit with fire dagger, repeat

this weapon is good for smurfing. +0 irithyll straight sword + dark hand is the best smurfing build for pussies.

The majority of these comments are from worthless idiots that want to judge people for playing a game. I would say this is a solid weapon for anyone to use, but it relies on SA. Make sure to combo, but spacing is always most important. Don't listen to the the scrubs that hate this weapon. They just suck and want to manipulate anyone that could beat them pvp, which is literally anyone.

The ultimate casual sword. When I invade at around sl 30 9 out of 10 people are using this :)
Very odd softcaps. I wonder why they did that instead of 40/40

best weapon in the game its actually so good i beat the whole entire game with it

Tip for new players: When wearing the Fallen Knight Set, the damage from this sword is multiplied 1.75x
Of course since Fextra sucks, they didn't write in this buff.

the casul straight sword, back in the young age of 2016, the casuls were widespread, favoring this sword as well the edgiest armor possible, now they are scarce, due to being mass slaughtered for being casul's, and very few use this one, most favor the darksword,

Good for ganking in low levels as a wolfbro, bad for everything else.
- Anonymous
Something I've overlooked is that this sword is probably the single best Straight Sword for ganking. Frostbite increases not only your damage but also the damage of your team, plus it can be reset by your pyromancer if you have one and it has very good range. If you're new and you're looking at the comments of this wiki to decide if you should use this, it's definitely a good option. Just make sure to go a 40/40 STR DEX build otherwise it's not gonna hit hard at all.

i played through all of dark souls 3 on my first playthrough years ago with it just because it was the only decent weapon i was comfortable with early on, and tbh i recommend NOT doing that. yeah, i absolutely agree it's a fantastic weapon overall but dark souls is so much more fun when you're experimenting with other weapons. i also personally just kind of find the straightswords a little boring. of course, it's personal taste. if you enjoy this weapon, feel free! just don't be afraid to branch out (:
- Anonymous
Its really not that good, I have beaten dark souls 3 with it, but it was very challenging. If you're looking for a good dex weapon, a sharp +10 sellsword twinblades is one of the best weapons in game.
I’m a base STR/DEX build 16/14, I’m pumping up INT for pyro, is it worth using up your twinkling titianite? I’m looking for a good base weapon, currently using battle axe +3, I want to commit to a weapon

I see a lot of people saying this sword is bad, but Frostbite chip damage is nothing to laugh at. It also has one of the longest ranges of all the Straight Swords so it has a lot going for it. The only downside is a bad scaling (only 388 at 40/40) but that's compensated by Frostbite. Does 218 damage to an unembered player with 40 vigor, plus -15 Stamina Regen and +7% increased damage. The 7% extra damage alone effectively brings the AR to 415. Not to be underestimated if whoever's using it isn't just R1 spamming.

I dont' know if this weapon is good when fighting Pontiff and Dancer. when I first fight them with this, they seem less aggressive when frostbite.
- Anonymous
I always thought this was bad weapon and sold it, oh how wrong i was. Same goes for Vordt's
- Anonymous
I just REALLY started using this weapon with a 50/45/55/45 and 2 handed, it has the AR of 409. While summoned and rebuffed, I frostbit Lorian in about 5 or 6 hits. It’s a really good weapon and I recommend it since most enemies/bosses aren’t immune to frostbite.
- Anonymous
It's a bit of a shame that good weapons are called casul when they're easily available. The hollowslayer is incredible at low-SL pvp but nobody says anything...

Going through the game level 25 and no titanite upgrades is only possible thanks to this sword
Made a Frost character for cosplay, but holy crap this thing has bad scaling early. The only good thing is it runs on Twinkling Titanite, so you can fully upgrade it by about Abyss Watchers/Deacons, along with heading to the first DLC for a Titanite Slab. Hopefully the Strength scaling gets better than what I am currently getting at a +2 weapon upgrade.
disables the heavy attack button when paired with a grass crest shield :p but in all seriousness, i like this sword quite a lot, but i'm pretty sure everyone does.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Not a bad sword at all! PvE-wise at least, ESPECIALLY if paired with a crossbow with exploding bolts as the bolts count as fire damage and reset the build-up after you get your damage. PvP-wise, you would need roughly 4-5 hits in immediate succession to proc Frostbite, which is just not reasonable to ask of anyone in a PvP fight.
- Anonymous
My personal favorite weapon of the game in terms of gameplay. No matter what build I make, i gradually gravitate back to this sword. Light weight, second highest damage for a straight sword, very high dps and fast swing, obtained early in game, and the frostbite is a very useful touch as well. The light weight makes it pair quite well with a great shield. If you're going with a straight sword, this is one of the best.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
D/D scaling for STR/DEX yet STR scales noticeably better. Goddammit FROM and your arbitrary bs.
- Anonymous
Best early choice of straight sword when you lack titinites. Able to frost most enemies in 4-5 hits
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Not a bad sword against bosses that allow you some chances to proc frostbite, but the second you're up against an enemy that isn't going to play along with your frostbite hopes (especially a human player) the abysmal damage is pretty miserable.
I love this sword. Easiest Slave Knight Gael kill yet. Don't know whether he's just super susceptible to frostbite, but this sword absolutely wrecked him, compared to Anri's straight sword or the Farron GS for example.

Clearly influenced by the Morgul Blade. People always search for Berserk stuff when there are so much more references from other media aswell.

I can't seem to upgrade this weapon any more, but I know it's not maxed out otherwise I'd get the achievement for maxing out my first weapon. Do weapons not show in the reinforcement section of the blacksmith if you do not have the materials to do so?
- Anonymous
Pretty much every dark souls 3 players choice weapon. You’ll either see this or someone slapping you with their dark hand (don’t ask why it’s dark). Of course in Fallen Knight set also! Because what is originality?
But in all do seriousness, this weapon is very, very, VERY viable in the hands of someone who knows how to use this. Try pairing it with snap freeze on a Sorcery build and use this when people get too close to you. That’s at least what I did! Oh and please don’t use the Fallen Knight set with the this.... it just starts to get old....

Clarified frostbite information. Corrected softcaps and scaling information.
- Anonymous
Easily my favorite straight sword because it's simply easy to use and provides many benefits. Just in case of it failing you though, I'd keep a normal damage Longsword with you as well in case you run into any frost-immune enemies.
- Anonymous
Does this weapon's stance R2 have any invincibility? I keep using it against various enemies, and their attacks always seem to bypass me. Or is it just the lunging low-profiles my hitbox? I can't find much information on this stance's attacks, which is surprising since it seems so helpful, but all I see about straight swords is R1 talk.
I only recently noticed the ring pommel on this thing. Sexy.

I never liked this weapon. It is just an ordinary straight sword that's sexy and causes frost. Would've been cool if the weapon art was you going berserk in a similar fashion the Outrider Knights do.
- Anonymous
great weapon even in late game. once upgraded to +5 its effective against almost any boss. solid damage against any enemy, and frost is great against enemies or bosses that are weak to it like dragonslayer armor or even soul of cinder. would recommend.
- Anonymous
I've noticed that it often does much much more damage than 11% im seeing almost 50% frost damage with vordts hammer and 30% on the straight sword.
- Anonymous
i just use dark hand and kill boreal outrider knight with EASE.
This weapon was the one that got me through my first ever playthrough - the frostbite effect is pretty useful against a lot of the tougher, faster bosses for new players (Abyss Watchers, Dragonslayer Armour, Champion Gundyr, etc). The only problem is the relative scarcity of twinkling titanite in the early to mid-game.
