Katanas are a type of Weapon in Dark Souls 3. These Weapons usually do moderate to good damage and deal Bleed. These weapons have particularly strong running attacks. Like curved swords, they utilize primarily on slashing attacks. While useful in many scenarios, their main downfall is their low durability.

Community complain about katana users > The majority of them uses cancer straigth swords whit absurd phantom range and ultra boring "skilfull" strength weapons, like dragonslayer's axe. And the casuals are dex weapon users, so much coherence in this*****ty community.

Lol this game is made by Japanese people with a lot of references to Anime/manga. Yet you guys hate katana so much.

All of the infueable Katanas do surprisingly well when Hollow infused with 20/40/40 (STR/DEX/LUK), outdamaging the Sharp infusion even before the bonus Luck when at 15 hollowing or more. My personal pick though is the Washing Pole for it's damage and reach. So if you're going for a Luck/Dexterity hollow build consider using a Katana, the Black Blade and Washing Pole do the most damage.
Though the Frayed Blade outdamages them all (the Black Blade two-handed with two maxed out Hollow infused weapons/items hits 441 AR while the Frayed Blade hits 462 AR), but that's a late-game weapon (unless you're godly enough to go through both DLC's when you meet Gael in the chapel) and you don't get the bonus Luck. Plus you have to kill Midir to get it, and that's easier said than done.

I hate katana users, cause their main form of dealing damage are just those annoying running r1's. Like, geez, if you only want to poke people, use a meta spear or something.

I can confirm that you can still parry wo/ FP, though it doesn't appear to affect stamina usage or parry frames.

It's baffling how Katana's get the short end of the parry stick. Having FP cost should be enough to cover its inclusion in a WA, but the fact that it only has 4 active parry frames out of 22 in the parry animation is beyond sad. You'd either have to be a MLG duelist or born Japanese or an anime character to read your opponent AND pull it off at the right time.

why all the hate for the katanas?? i am a new player so i don't get it.... are they suppodet to be overpowered or something? appart from that they are fairly realistic since they are real weapons so why all the comments about anime loving people and that.. it has nothing to do with popular anime culture it's just a sword and a very lethal one in that part..huge hammers and axes 3 meters long that weight 150 kg and can be swinged around like nothing look way more funnier to me than katanas

Oh come on, these are all thrusting swords. Katanas are like glaives are to halberds; a subcategtory of thrusting sword. What kind of idiot uses anything other than the running attack with one of these weeb dildos?

Katanas right now suck, just good player can play wit them. Some weapon like alabards and machete moveset are really hard to beat, the only way is roll attack or backstab mix wit some run attack and roll chatc wit the weapon art. Some alabards are impossible to beat like the helicopter alabard wit r1+helicopter weapon art combo, this kill the roll attack after r1.The only way is to be cancer wit run attack. No way good luck and fuk miazaky a from software for this***** called 'pvp'

i'm pretty pissed off because with the frayed blade's icon being almost entirely black i couldn't find it and ended up getting the old moonlight spell because i thought it was the only item you could get with Midir's soul. be nice if they made it's icon more visible.
