Katanas are a type of Weapon in Dark Souls 3. These Weapons usually do moderate to good damage and deal Bleed. These weapons have particularly strong running attacks. Like curved swords, they're utilized primarily for slashing attacks. While useful in many scenarios, their main downfall is their low durability (an issue that is easily solved in this game, due how durability works), and really low STR scaling (gaining almost no damage benefit from using them two handed).

All this nippon swords and none could beat the one, the only, ultimate Dex weapon pkcs. Like really, none of you scrubs could beat pkcs users in a fair fight.

I really like how katanas are portrayed in this game. In so many films and video games they are portrayed as magical godlike swords that can cut through steel and that are indestructible, but in dark souls, they are actually realistic, they do slash damage (meaning they are bad against armour) and they have low durability, which is also realistic (katanas were prone to dinting and cracking) while still maintaining a cool (but not unrealistic) moveset and good damage against lightly armoured enemies.(what they were made for)
Thank you FromSoftware for not pandering to the desires of katana fanboys!

Really hoping katanas will be great in the demon souls remake, they are fun to use but can be tricky to use in pvp and some pve.

Wish these performed better with lightning/blessed. I guess it's truly too powerful to have god and anime on your side

For weapons that should be two handed, Katanas are generally better one handed. They get a significant attack range boost when 1-handed, and the damage increase from using them 2-handed is minimal. There doesn't seem to be any real advantage to 2-handing, other than mixing up animations or wanting to use L2 (hold) while you have an item in your left hand. Also, there's a common myth that the Chaos blade has better parry frames. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Uchigatana, Black Blade & Chaos blade all have the same parry frames, frame 8.0 - 16.1 @60fps. Washing pole actually has the longest parry window, 8.0 - 8.3 @60fps. For comparison, Caetus is 8.1 - 16.3, however it has an extra 2 frame reovery time and the katanas get a damage absorption bonus while using the parry.

"Main downfall is their durability." This is Dark Souls 3. You have to actually be TRYING to break your stuff.

Protip for Katana users with the Hold WA: Use parry and slam R1 right after while holding L2 the entire time. Super clean transition from R2 to R1, works in reverse too. Parry can be an effective feint against parry-centric opponents and the followup R1 can be slowed slightly to great effect.

If I wan't to make Katana run, which start class is better to choose? As I understand, Thief should be best? Or Deprived?
