Magic Clutch Ring

magic clutch ring

Ring depicting a hand grasping a blue stone. Increases magic attack, but compromises damage absorption.

An old fable in Londor claims that the lure of the clutch ring reaches out to the crestfallen, who might otherwise be overcome by despair.

Magic Clutch Ring is a Ring in Dark Souls 3.

Magic Clutch Ring Effect

  • Increases magic attack by 15% in PvE and 8% in PvP

  • Reduces Physical, Strike, Slash, and Thrust Absorptions 10% in PvE and 15% in PvP

  • Weight: 0.8

Where to Find Magic Clutch Ring

  • Irythyl of the Boreal Valley- From the Church of Yorshka bonfire, head out of the church the way you came in and head left towards the Pontiff Knights and Fire Witches. In this area is an Illusory Wall on the right. It is behind the wall. (Video / )

Notes

  • Increases the damage on magic weapons, buffs, magic spells, and crystal infusions.
  • Reduction in absorption is calculated by increasing your current absorption by 10% and then subtracting 10 (i.e. New = 1.1xOld- 10; calculated with excel)

It all adds up even in pvp... When I finally finished my melee glass cannon this was on, it did add dmg to the combo even though it was just for the dmb part of it

      • Pretty powerful with the Greatsword of Judgment. It powers up both the base magic damage and the weapon art buff. Whether you should pair it with ring of steel protection depends on the armor your wearing and your confidence in dodging/getting hit.

While the damage isn't a big leap, in Souls games 9-15% increase in damage output is nothing to scoff at, since it all builds up in the end. Even in PVP, the Clutch rings are good. Because most people will be medium rolling anyway, the reduction to damage absorption can be negligible in that regard, if your dodging is up to snuff. Also, damage you take is reduced by defense values from armor anyway, so even if you have negative absorption, defense values will still do most of the work. That said, using a clutch ring under 30% load optimizes your gains from this ring, and helps with evading damage altogether.

          • This ring is not worth to use in PvP, According to reddit and Soulsplanner, it's increases incoming physical damage more and Increase Magic damage less while in PvE. This is of course for all Clutch Rings. For my test in PvP, Increase incoming physical damage by 10% - 11.5% Increase magic damage by 7.9% - 8.1%

does this ring boost dark sorcery like bellowing dragon crest ring since the dark sorcery is still under the sorcery category?

I'm running a dark sorcery build and have the blind fold mask and dark clutch ring hitting about 900 - 1000 damage at ringed city.

Oh, its in the place with all yhe fire witches AND pontiff knights? Looks like I'm never getting that ring...

Imo this is only worth it if youre using a high magic damage weapon AND soul magic. Im using a fire wep to have something for those high magic resistance enemies so I'll be skipping this one.

This is to add in to my post on 13 Jul 2017 22:41. I meant to say that MLGS does indeed recieve the full 15% boost if you calculate the magic base AR first.

The ring does indeed increase the damage of the Moonlight Greatsword. What the people are mistaking in the calculation, is that they are multiplying the total AR. Magic Clutch only increases the MAGIC damage dealt, so they should be multiplying the magic base damage FIRST, then add in the physical side of the damage, that will give you the new AR.

Tested at 18 str and 60 int: Physical 126 + 5, Magic 238 + 203. Magic AR = 441*1.15 = 507.15 + Physical AR (131) = 638. However, the total AR of my MLGS is 639, so the ring might give a slight more boost. I recalculated with 15.3% and it gave me 639.473, rounding it down to 639.

Using a fully upgraded Moonlight Greatsword i can attest that the thing jumps from 559 to 624. not really needed for standard enemies but if you use it in tandum with the pontif's right eye the damage can be pretty damn handy for bosses

When you are facing pontiff sulyvahn boss fog turn around and walk of the edge. When you land you can pick up ring of the sun's first born. Walk forward and too your left should be a set of stairs leading into a wall. Hit the wall and behind it is the magic clutch ring. Hope this was helpful

Magic clutch ring increases the damage on the MLGS by 11% not 15%, The trade off is probably not worth it in most situations.

I just tested myself. It gives around a 7% increase. It might be because the sword is not fully magic damage.

I did a little testing and it seems that if your wear 2 different Clutch Rings(for something like Dancer's swords) at the same time you DON'T get a damage boost from either of them, they cancel each other out for some reason.

From the Church of Yorshka bonfire; go out the original entry you came through to light the church bonfire, proceed forward while hugging the left wall till you reach a metal gate, stand before and face the gate, turn right 90 degrees, the illusory wall is straight ahead.

^ wondering if im playing a sorcerer if this is worth for spells or if its just for magic damage on weapons.

From the church bondfire, head outside and to the left where there's one fire witch and two pontiffs. In that area, the wall is on the right where the stairs end.

So can we get a description of where this actually is instead of a crappy wiki descriptor? "Big building next to elevator" There's a lot of big buildings. This whole area is "big buildings", Which one? and the main description says "The third bonfire" Do you mean "Church of Yorshak?" and a "semi-circular hall with a illusion wall on the right." This doesn't help at all. There are tons of semi-circular paths here.
