Mendicant's Staff is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.
A staff with a small bowl attached to the tip, similar to a mendicant's crook. Absorb additional souls from fallen foes.
The staff's history is unclear. It may be a relic of an ancient serpent's greed, or a ritual artifact used to summon souls.
Skill: Steady Chant
Boost the strength of sorceries for a very short period. Works while equipped in either hand.
Notes and Tips:
- Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
- Reinforced with Titanite.
- Trade it to Pickle Pee, Pump-a-Rum Crow to obtain the Sunlight Shield.
- Increases souls gained by 20%. Stacks with the Covetous silver serpent ring (10%), Shield of want (20%), and Symbol of avarice (50%). The total increase in souls gained by equipping all of these items is 237.60%.
- The staff must be held for the souls to count, this is proven by silver serpent icon in the status bar.
- Rusted Coins and full Item Discovery gear are recommended if trying to obtain this Staff, as it is very rare.
- The most farmable Man-Serpent Summoner is at the Great Belfry bonfire.
- The word 'mendicant' originally referred to one who belonged to one of the religious orders that originally relied solely on alms for their upkeep; those who are given to begging; a beggar can be said to be a member of a mendicant order. Given that Man-Serpent Summoners rely as heavily as they do on their summons to absorb and inflict damage for them, this might explain the name chosen for the staff that they carry.
- At 60 INT it has a spellbuff of 208.
- Can immediately swap to the mendicant staff after killing an enemy to gain the 20% increase in souls.
Location/Where to Find
- Drops from Man-Serpent Summoners in Archdragon Peak, near the Great Belfry and Dragon-Kin Mausoleum.

This item is broken. regardless of gear (basic or soul gain) it’s only effect is to reduce soul gain by 1 soul
- Anonymous
I got 2 in around 20 at 423 discovery but they were back to back 19-20th kills.
- Anonymous
I don't care about the sorcery scaling, passive effects or whatever, I literally just want one so I can trade it for the Sunlight Shield.

It's pretty good for dark sorceries. Wich is ironic considering some hexes in ds2 used certain amount of souls to increase power.
- Anonymous
It also stacks with itself, meaning equip load can be lowered by using 2 of these rather than 1 of these and 1 shield of want.

NGL the main reason I want this is so I can trade it with snugly for Solaris shield

When I learned how to get this, I popped on a gold serpent ring and used a rusted coin. I walked up behind the guy next to the nameless king, stabbed him, and stared in awe as I picked it up on my... first try. The rng gods have blessed me.

If the animation for your weapon is too long after the killing blow theres not enough time to switch sadly. Using the greatsword to kill silver knights in Anor and the frames are too strong to switch in time no matter how hard i spam it. Or the knights just die super hard. Works for regualr greatsword weapons but not ultra essentially. big sad
- Anonymous
Tried with 20 rusted coins, item discovery at 396. Got about three kills in per coin. No luck.
- Anonymous
So I farmed the manserpent at belfry 5 times and got 3 of these with 410 item discovery. Either I was super lucky or it's really not as rare you think.
- Anonymous
I like to farm these and give them to random people. I've given like 10 just today,
- Anonymous
Damn luckbased elements suck
If i was fan if this I have done better spending my time in a casino wasting my money than wasting my time and skipping work to farm this crap
Stop luckbased elements for people who cant skip their worthless jobs
Thank you
Praise the free time
- Anonymous
Nobody mentions that you have to have 18 intelligence for it to increase souls… You can’t just hold it. Horseshit.
- Anonymous
Got this on my very first attempt at grinding for it, before I even remembered to put on any grinding equipment.
…Of course, when I tried to get a second one to give to Pickle Pee, it took the Symbol of Avarice, the Crystal Sage’s Rapier, the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring+3, Rusted Gold Coins, and countless tries. I was able to level up twice (120 and 121) from the souls I got just from that before I got another Mendicant’s Staff.
- Anonymous
think the drop rate is pretty high ive gotten this pretty much every playthough without having to farm it, today two dropped in a row the first two times i killed the summoner guy after ancient wyvern (8 luck 0 item discovery items)
- Anonymous
Yes, you can farm multiple ones by the Dragonslayer Belfrey bonfire.

Spell buff:
+0 = 120
+1 = 122
+2 = 123
+3 = 125
+4 = 126
+5 = 127
+6 = 127 / Physical > 106
+7 = 127 / Physical > 114
+8 = 128 / Physical > 121
+9 = 128 / Physical > 129
+10 = 128 / Physical > 136
Scaling doesn't change.

farming this obese cobra for hours is bound to give you an L so big you'll drown yourself.

Got it today on a new char (strenght build **** me) after 500 hours for the first time, dropped as soon as i killed the man serpent

I legit got this in like 3 tries (while farming for souls). And now I find it allows for an increase in soul gain? Hell yeah!
- Anonymous
360 item discovery.. Got if after like 40 tries? I wasnt counting
- Anonymous
Got it first try with 8 luck without dis. items. The one near NK bell bonfire dropped it.
- Anonymous
kept trying with all but I got it only with the Rapier/Ring/Avrice combo Nothing on and nothing carried.
I wanted this to trade for solaire's shield so i tried used gold serpent ring +3 and symbol of avarice and tried the mausoleum. No lie, got it first try. Was shocked. Got the shield and now going for a second one.

After some hours and hundreds of kills, here's what I've come up with:
With about 300 item discovery, the droprate for this staff is around 30:1. This average also accounts for getting multiple in a row and then getting none at all for seemingly hundreds of kills.
All in all, there are far worse things to farm for in this game. At least you get tons of souls doing this as well.
- Anonymous
Took me roughly 9 times with 7 base luck, Golden serpent ring+3, Symbol of avarice and and gold coins to farm this from the Man-serpent summoner at Great Belfry.
- Anonymous
Definitely recommend just getting two of these for soul farming since they weigh less than the shield but give the same amount of soul bonus
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Took me no tries at all because Cheat Engine will forever be my mandate for dumb farming sessions (0 luck, all skill clearly)
- Anonymous
Got it at 4th try with 160 item discovery (10 luck + Covetous Gold Serpent Ring)
- Anonymous

For some reason I only get the bonus souls when equipped in my right hand, I don't get it when I have my main weapon on the right hand and the staff in the left, is this normal?

****ing hell, I've been farming this **** for 4 hours no luck so far. All I want to do is trade this stuff for Sunlight shield and do some jolly co operation as Solaire for newbies because of the steam sale. Thank you FromSoftware ;__;
- Anonymous
Can you get the extra soul bonus even if you don't have the stat requirements to use it?
- Anonymous
679k souls, a half an hour, and 423 item discovery on NG+ I finally got the staff. Begs the question of the most killed enemy in the game.
- Anonymous
So melee build can't use this to farm? I tried to equip to slot 2 right hand but it's only 198% soul increase. Shield of Want left hand + melee weapon right hand + Covetous silver serpent ring + Symbol of avarice, I got 25740 souls each Winged Knight at Grand Archives (13000 base), but only 30888 souls when I finish them with with magic. Because I tend to kill them ASAP due to drain effect from Symbol of avarice, so 5k bonus not always possible.
- Anonymous
woot 2 of them within 20 tries at 112 item disc. anyone want to trade?
- Anonymous
I just spent an entire hour grinding for this damn thing just to get the sunlight shield, and after finally getting it, I went to pickle-pee and accidentally selected “discard” instead of “leave.” Turns out this just deletes the item. I want to scream
- Anonymous
If you are farming bosses with this equipped beware of gesturing your buddies while gaining the souls. Gesturing counts as bare fists and the souls plus is negated
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Has the drop rate for this item been increased? I just got 4 of these in 36 kills with 322 item discovery using Symbol of Avarice and Covetous Gold Serpent Ring +3.
- Anonymous
I just grinded 3 Hours long with a findingluck of 475. Result: 8 Staffs. The first after like an Hour and a half, and one time 3 staffs in a row... This is excausting. but now me and my bros can all be full sunlight warriors.
- Anonymous
Slight mistake, it says "The total increase in souls gained by equipping all of these items is 237.60%." It's actually the "total amount of souls gained", not "total increase in souls gained", which'd imply an increase of 237.6%, putting it at 337.6% in total.

My favorite day playing Dark Souls 3 was when I got to the summoner and I didn't know what it dropped and then I got the staff first try. I looked it up and found this amazing wiki

- Anonymous
I got two in less than 30 min. Great belfry bonfire, 322 item discovery, 7 luck, serpent ring +3, and symbol of avarice.

- Anonymous
need help i killed that summoner 20 times and didnt drop anything. item discovery 420. according to wiki it has 40% drop chance at 400 ID. what the actual *****?
- Anonymous
The math doesn’t sound right it adds up to 210% more souls how you get 238%
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
To farm this, don't bother with the Summoner near the Dragonkin Mausoleum bonfire. You'll have to run up stairs and have to deal with the summoned NPC afterwards. Wait until you get to the Great Belfry bonfire: then you can approach the Summoner from behind ( having Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring equipped is a good idea) and kill him before he can summon the NPC guy. Just run back and try again until it drops.
- Anonymous
I got 2 in a row with no farming gear and base luck. Time to buy a lottery ticket I guess
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Either you guys are terribly unlucky or I should make a career out of gambling. It took me only a couple of minutes to farm this thing on my last playthrough a year or so back, and this time around I farmed 3 (!) of them in 21 kills on 7 luck, wearing only the Symbol Of Avarice, Covetous Silver Serpent Ring (+0) and popping a regular Rusted Coin every three kills. The first one dropped on the second kill. I was laughing like a maniac the entire time, naturally.
- Anonymous
Ah yes, because a page based on a magic stick needs to be linked to berzerk since fromsoft apparently can't make any ideas on their own
- Anonymous
took me 60+ tries with 210 item disc to get one. keep in mind that it's not a pseudo-random function so probabilities do not add up
- Anonymous
got this drop second try without ever leveling luck or using any discovery boosting gear. thank you miyazaki sama
- Anonymous
Oh you want to finish your Solaire character? Well ***** you! You can't get his shield until Archdragon Peak! Oh, and just to add insult to injury, it's a rare drop from an uncommon enemy because ***** you!
- Anonymous
If you wear one like a hat and another one shoved up your arse, does the soul gain stack?
took me around 45 tries with item discovery of 351 to get 2 of em

Can you add on notes : If +10 cannot trade for sunlight shield (further testing on other reinforce levels)
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I got one in about 15-20 kills @435 item discovery. You can kill three of the summoners per coin so save your gold coins for this drop, as it's a very efficient usage of them.
Im glad to say this thing isn't as rare as I heard I managed to get three which is pretty good
- Anonymous
If you wear multiple staffs and shields of want does the souls gained go up more?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Thanks for the info but now i have to wait for my friends to catch up to me
- Anonymous
The best thing about farming this staff, was that by the time I actually got it, I had so many souls I no longer needed it.
- Anonymous
One must hit kill the Man-Serpent Summoner next the bonfire for guaranteed drop, tried so foar so good. Try archery.
- Anonymous
IDK what everyone is on about, I get this stupid thing in twenty tries or so every time on PC. Now FLAMBERGE; HOLY FRICKEN SHET WHAT THE HELL. HARPE TAKES MORE TRIES THAN THIS.
- Anonymous

was on my way to nameless king, killed this sorcerer mob out of curiosity and it dropped the staff immediately. had no serpent ring on, not wearing avarice, no coin popped. jz really lucky i guess
It's 125% ring +3 is 35% staff 20% shield 20% and mimic head 50% that does not add up to 237.60% that would be awesome but whoever does the math on this site needs some milk or something
