Murakumo is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.



The curved greatsword of Alva, Seeker of the Spurned, specially forged in an eastern land. Sharp but heavy, this sword requires extreme strength and dexterity to wield.

The search for the spurned had no end, and so the wayfaring knight warmed to a most deformed weapon.

Skill: Spin Slash
Slice into foes with a large spinning motion, and continue spinning to transition into a strong attack.



Notes and Tips:

  • Can be Buffed and Infused.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • Has A scaling in INT/FTH with Dark or Chaos infusions, and S when Sharp-infused.
  • The longest Curved Greatsword.
  • A Sharp Murakumo with 40/40 STR/DEX has 544 AR, while a Refined one has 527 AR.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped. 
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)

      Really tired of comments making cracks about this being 'diet Exile Greatsword'.

      If you are running Dex rather than quality, Sharp Murakumo is flat better than Exile Greatsword. It hits harder, has more reach, weighs less and requires less strength.

      If you really wanted to compare them, Exile Greatsword is Murakumo for Quality Builds, and Murakumo is EGS for Dex builds.

              I have a ninja cosplay lightroll character with 80 dex, and like to use Murakumo against ganks and chaotic situations. Big guy still gets around ~30 AR from Flynn's ring. I have dealt over 1100 damage with one spin slash, it's great fun

                  Full list of true/pseudo combos from my own experience:
                  True combos:
                  R1 -> R1 (duh)
                  R1 -> Jump attack
                  Fully charged R2 -> R1
                  Fully charged R2 -> Jump attack (can oneshot light opponents at meta level)
                  R1 -> L2 -> R2 (partial)
                  L2 -> R2
                  L2 -> Jump attack (inconsistent like Millwood combo)

                  Pseudo-combos:
                  Jump attack -> L2 -> R2
                  Running R1 -> Jump attack

                                Very good to hardswap to and use the Weapon Art when your opponent is not expecting it; it's no Gundyr charge (which tbf you can still use on a quality build) but it comes out relatively quick and has long reach. Also makes a fine weapon just by itself, just with the added bonus of being able to surprise people with a sudden hyerarmor Spin Slash

                                    1. awesome model art! esthetics 10/10

                                    2. longest CGS in the game.

                                    3. WA is amazing and if used corectly can do a lot of damage

                                    4. can be buffed and infused and stats and weight are good enough for chaos/dark builds, works great with elemental infusions

                                    5. dex scalling CGS, works also great with quality build (sharp infused not refined) cause of rather high str. requirments also sharp infusion does not remove str. scalling so viable for quality/dex/chaos/dark builds and list can go on so a very versatile weapon.

                                    6. like all CGS, very good r1 - jumping r2 combo and running atack.

                                    cons:

                                    none!

                                    Others: I cant find a flaw for this weapon except the general cons of its class, like dealing slash damage and having slow and pariable swings for 2hr1. 2hr2 cant pe parried though. It s a weapon primarily for pvp because of combos and strategies to use with the weapon like baiting atacks with r2 or wa. running r1 and good jumping r2. It s damage and poise damage makes a good option for area pvp as well, also is decent for bosses. Damage is good, not insane like Exile, not bad either.

                                    A top tier weapon for pvp and a classy choice to play with. The wa combo is r1 - wa - r2. that will hit most of the time with all hits the oponent. Wa into r2 can be used to deceive oponnent and mess with his spacing.

                                      This thing right here, it'll be your best friend in the ringed city. In pairs, 2H R1s can stunlock harald fattys until you run out of stamina (and for some reason the harald GS, which is HEAVIER, can't.), it makes short work of clerics too, one R2 will either bait their heal pose which can be broken in 2 R1s before they start, or make them try and attack to no avail.

                                      Only drawback: The running 2H attack cannot kill murkmen in a single hit, they can be annoying in swarms.

                                        This weapon scales surprisingly well with FTH. On a 33/55 DEX/FTH, you can go Blessed for 501 AR, or Sharp for 505 AR and add the Blessed Weapon miracle.

                                                with a sharp infusion, at 40 dex 60 faith, buffed with darkmoon blade with yoshka's chime, plus a magic clutch ring, this blade has over 800 AR. Slightly lower (~12) than sharp Astora GS with same setting but this blade swings faster.

                                                      If you're having trouble against passive-spacing opponents, go L2 and immediately jumping R2. They may space the L2, but the jumping R2 comes out so fast and with reach, that you'll catch them a lot, and even if you trade for a single R1, it's totally worth it.

                                                        this has been one of my go to weapons in every game and its still a monster in the right hands. For anyone who doesn't know r1 combos into a jumping attack which will do more damage than a combo into weapon art. I used to go with power within red tearstone and charcoal pine bundle, yes i know its not efficient but i thought it looked cool and it was fun, but yeah it did some scary damage with 74 dex power within and pine bundle and red tearstone, one shots weren't uncommon, and when it didn't i had a bow to finish them off. Its not a good weapon at the highest level of play but pros are rare and if your opponent makes one mistake they are dead.

                                                            It says it has a higher AR on a 40/40 build with a sharp infusion. This is only true when using the weapon ONE-HANDED. When two-handed with a refined infusion, it has an AR of 556. When two-handed and sharp infused, it has an AR of 549. Keep that in mind.

                                                                I use this on my faith build put lighting on it 30 dex 20 str 60 faith base over 600 ar and now a old caster can keep up with pvp get them stuck in lightning storm an then get a hit with it most players hp hose below half and this combo I use makes up for the faked she only has like 7.8 poise is I use canves talisman

                                                                  what you don't tell people is that the damage types of curved swords results in extreme low damage in pvp. lets say you do 500 against a hollow soldier, you will eventually only deal 220 against another player. and yes tested. Over and over. Problems are armors that are for curved swords like concrete walls. The relativly long time it needs to hit something is another con. Better players will hit you, evade, hit, evade. Or they will just stacker you endlessly. Your only hope is your weapon ability then but if people figured that out too you are lost entirely. And lets not forget the insane amount of stamina GCS's need for each swing. If you don't pay attention to your stamina bar it can happen often that you find yourself unable to dodge because negative stamina if you underrestimate its hunger. I really tried to like these weapons. But I never felt comfortable. Not early nor mid game in pve and not with sl120 in pvp.

                                                                    Exact same moveset as Exile Greatsword, but weaker. Heavy Exile has A str. And Murakumo has S Sharp dex. It won't be stronger than the Exile until you have a quite high dex. This is way slower and shorter foot shuffling than the DS2 Murakumo. Disappointed in its speed and immobility.

The scaling is so good with dex (the damage output with 80 dex + blessed weapon = WIN), the weapon moveset feels good, and most importantly, it ***looks*** so sleek!                                                                             Surprisingly a running attack into back step attack is nice way to mix it up. Most people don't suspect it, since they usually knee-jerk parry, expecting you to follow up with a normal attack.

                                                                                  I have an 80 dex build with blessed weapon in sharp murakumo with blessed shield to regen hp. Put the sword ring on this and I'm swinging 743 PURE physical damage. That's obscene. If you get the r1 to weapon art combo it's game over for just about anyone.i hit someone with a single r1 for 766 damage the other day. Not uncommon to take half of someone's life away with a swing. Don't underestimate the r2 either. Those two steps your char takes forward to do the attack can work wonders for bait and spacing. All hail!

                                                                                        So interestingly it appears that after this new dex scaling buff, a Sharp +10 weapon with S scaling will actually get VERY significant scaling PAST 60 points in dex. Even up to around 75-80 dex you still get 2-3 damage per point at times! This odd scaling doesn't start till after 60 though for some reason.

                                                                                        Sharp +10 @ 40 Dex = 528 Damage
                                                                                        @ 50 Dex = 547 Damage (+19)
                                                                                        @ 60 Dex = 561 Damage (+14)
                                                                                        @ 70 Dex = 593 Damage (+32!!)
                                                                                        @ 80 Dex = 615 Damage (+22!!)
                                                                                        @ 89 Dex = 627 Damage (+12) (Going from 89 to 90 gives no more points, this is where it breaks down)
                                                                                        @ 99 Dex = 631 Damage (+4)

                                                                                        So for those wanting a pure dex build, don't be afraid to raise dex to beyond 60, in my testing 80 is where it appears to slow down to not worth it territory again. And with the new buff to Prisoner's Chain it's not that hard to get the points for ~70-75 dex and still keep 30+ in Vig/End.

                                                                                          Compared to a 66 Strength build with the heavy Exile to a 66 Dex sharp muro the Muro beats it by 1 damage.

                                                                                          It takes slightly more stamina but weighs less and is the longest curved greatsword.

The blade will pass through single or multiple foes without hitting any of them.Unsure if anybody else experienced this or not, but it kind of ruins what was the sword I was waiting for this whole time.

                                                                                                            No discernible difference in swing speed (from quick testing), confoundingly a higher stamina cost, and lower AR. Only reason to consider Mura imo is if you're limiting weight, even then it's a unit heavier than a Zweihander.

                                                                                                                    Alva would not spawn on my first playthrough for some reason, but spawned properly on my NG+. Spawns at the bridge between Irithyll and the Dungeon. If he won't come out try walking further down the dead end stone stairs on the Dungeon side of the bridge.
