Bro what's up with every single DS3 item being flooded with Elden Ring players "Wow this is just like X in Dark Souls 3", are you just finding out that dark souls is better than elden ring?

Old Wolf Curved Sword is build defining and helps to make faster combo builds viable. When used in tandem with paired weapons ( E.G. Sellsword Twinblades) and Pontiff's Eye rings, the game rewards aggressive gameplay. I would hardly need to use Estus with this set-up from all the healing and I was even able to beat the game at level 55 with +6 Weapons. While it's not a very original set-up it felt very worthwhile regardless. The weapon skill is incredibly cool and helps with mix-ups in PVP if you want to use it as your main weapon. Overall, just a cool and thematic weapon and one of the better covenant rewards.

Wish this sword had the farron greatswords special attacks, the look if the blade would suit it much better

This thing really went from non existent to turbo meta practically overnight. Be prepared to lose 1000 hp to a single weapon art

This thing has a guaranteed panic roll catch that no one is talking about. R1 -> L2 (only first part of Wa) -> hold R1 or spam it -> Jump attack. This R1 after L2 will roll catch anyone who panic rolled its up there with Straight sword R1R1 R2 but much more deadly because of jump attack combo with R1.

              To sum it up
R1 L2 R1 Jump attack if opponent far away

              Or

R1 L2 R1 full WA if opponent rolls into you.

Ofcourse this procs with consecutive attack benefit to further make it deadly.

This weapon does more dmg with r1s than my black knight gs. Even tho bkgs has higher dmg in character screen. This seems odd, any explanation?

Just finished a NG+ run with this, can confirm that it whips in most pve and pvp scenarios. With pontiff rings + chloranthy + poise + carthus beacon you can play very aggressive against smaller mobs and even some bosses. And for pvp, not a lot of people seem to expect or know how to deal with the R1 => L2 => R2 combo, was very happy to take trades against bigger and faster weapons to get that off. That multi-hit felt especially nice the times when it broke through a tears of denial proc.

Def a lot of fun, def worth the ghru grind to get this thing.

Now that i think about it... are the pontiff's eye rings truly his eyes, or a replica from the wolf of farron's eyes? It could explain why the sulyvahn's knights behave like quadruped beasts. I had that thought because the sword is said to have the old wolf's soul, and there's a lot of wolves where sulyvahn came from.

Doesn't hardcap at 60 dex. Between 60 and 71 dex it gains less than 1 AR per level, but beyond 71 it gains 1-2 AR per level all the way up to 99.

This weapon is a whole BEAST in PvE with a tank build. With Iron Flesh and some random twinsword, you can proc this once every three attacks, which is not at all hard to land

                        • Anonymous

By using the weapon art you jump backwards while your opponent rolls backwards after being hit resulting in a graceful AF duel

                          • Anonymous

The Old Wolf of Farron was originally going to be a boss, but at the last second they pulled it out and stuck it here. Hence the wording "bears the soul of the old wolf".

                            • I see now why I always see people with this on their back. Literally three years and over a thousand hours played and I am still learning, what I love about this game.

Fun off-hand weapon/utility item for DEX builds. The WA is good for PvE against jank vertical hitboxes or charging enemies (like Wolf Knight Greatsword, but more defensive) and does very decent damage once you get the combo started. Stacking AR buffs with Pontiff's R Eye/Carthus beacon does indeed melt just about anything with dual weapons. Been using it with Onikiri + Ubadachi, any fast weapon will max out the buff potential in 2-3 combos. Makes a decent surprise roll catcher offhand. Decent weapon on its own, shines as a 13 lbs stacking ring set.

Fortunately for us, youtuber dangitjm is planning a video on this weapon, which might be a useful resource if you're looking to learn more about the Old Wolf's CS's moveset, viable builds, and perhaps even hidden/overlooked mechanics! Personally, I can't wait. owo

So can I use Carthus Beacon, Both Pontiff rings and then have one Old Wolf Curved Sword on my back while wielding a 2nd Old Wolf Curved Sword in my main hand for turbo cancer?

How have I not heard about this weapon until now? I've literally never seen it in pvp or in any videos ever. The only reason I found this was from typing old wolf knight by accident. Does it like suck or something?

Incredibly high SL Build found: armor: undead legion pointy hat ,leonhard's garb, undead legion gauntlet, alva leggins . Rings: both pontiff rings, sun princess and highest Havel u have. Right hand: this monster, sharp sellsword twins, pyromancy flame. Left hand: ethereal oak shield ,blessed sellsword twins, sacred Filianore Chime. Spells: carthus beacon, blessed weapon, replenishment. This thing heals u like there's no tomorrow and adapts to almost every situation. Obiovusly a very VERY high soul level is required, but it is very fun and works well.

This weapon is extremely overpowered, I can do well over 1,000 Damage in just 2-3 hits with only about 40 Dex when it's a +5. This results in that someone with 40 Vigor and a full set of Havel armor or Lapp's armor with a Ring of Steel Protection +3 STILL gets decimated by this beast of a weapon.

what's with everyone talking about the exile so much this isn't the exile stop comparing it to it, it is given a large combo to proc the buffs it has and with just that its combo outshines the damage the exile has the exile is so slow and basic its a mediocre weapon that shouldn't have survived this long at the top, combo this sword with the pontiff's eyes have a lot of stamina and stamina regen and then use the carthus beacon or power within and you'll become a damage dealing the demon like you have the satsui no hado from street fighter and your true combo is like the raging demon

                                            • The weapon is mediocre by itself, but worn on the back while using a combo heavy weapon (especially if stacked with pontiff rings) makes it insanely good for combo builds.

                                              • Anonymous

dumb question, but does the buff scale with itself? or is that not even possible? (i have a friend that can trade)

                                                • Another really underrated weapon! And it is my all-time favourite in DS3 Yeah it has lower damage compared to other CGS' and is relatively short, but it has a true combo R1 L1 R2 which does considerable amount of damage and doesn't leave you vurnerable. And it is very fun sword to play. Just had nice ~10 killstreak in a fight club with this beast.

There's a requirement before you are healed in my tests it's around ten consecutive hit and 5 consecutive kills before healing

Could anyone trade this with me? I desperately need it, I play on PC, just send me your Steam account name and I will friend you. Thanks!

Is there any way to get this sword a second time. I got summoned while getting the reward and it never went in my inventory. I also maxed out the covenant and got the shield and ring but no sword. It's so lame.

                                                            • Anonymous

Doesn't work for me. Damage is much lower in invasions (because of slash type damage?) each hit takes too much time, range is low, the boost rarely activates and the WA is predictable and easy to dodge. And it has a huge stamina consumption. All in all this might work in honor pvp or the arena but for invasions the OWCS is a no go except maybe on dex glass cannon builds. Don't see how someone would choose this over Exile GS or Carthus on a quality build.

                                                              • Anonymous

On its own it's worthless in invasions. Damage is miraculously only half the one as in pve (probably through slash damage), the windup before hitting something takes far to long (en par with greatswords not to mention straightswords or anything faster) and the stamina consuption is insane. The abbysmal low range is the final nail in the coffin. Yes, carthus beacon and pontiff right eye can increase the damage immensely but in PvP it will never proc. If you want to fight in invasions with a curved sword go for for carthus bleed build or high damage Exile GS build because this isn't what you want except you want to fight with a handicap. In the end the only way I can think of this thing may work is as a <SL70 high dex glascannon build.

                                                                • Anonymous

So i thought you had to hit a person like 4 times at least to get the buff, i get it in two to three and the bonus is rather significant, well, I ain't complanin ;)

                                                                  • Anonymous

This thing gets a little frightening if you stack it with Carthus Beacon and Pontiff's Right Eye. If you start getting combos (which is easy because of its excellent weapon art) its AR skyrockets (on my build, it goes from 530-ish to just over 800). Using a dual weapon with this on your back works similarly (hello 600 AR unbuffed Warden Twinblades). And that's all with virtually no downsides.

                                                                    • So do I really have to believe, that using this with pontiff ring will heal 120 HP PER HIT? I mean, you may only land 3 or 4 hits at a time cause this sword is pretty heavy, but that would mean 360-480 HP regen, which is crazy (around 1/4th or total healthpool). I ask this, because I really can't see this ingame, I mean it 'may' happen, but I'm usually too busy to track heal/hit. But it just seems unlikely.

                                                                      • Anonymous

How wil this work with Demon's Fist?

If I equip both weapons, then dual wield the Fists, will I still get the passive buffs from OWCS?

And if I understand correctly, it stacks with both the Pontiff's eyes?

                                                                        • Anonymous

Anyway anyone willing to trade im on ps4 Reply if you are willing

                                                                          • This thing is a lot of fun and it looks badass. Like said, the mounting damage bonus is there even if the weapon's on your back so it goes fantastic with a fast complimentary weapon like Sellswords or twin Kats two handed from off hand. The sword itself has the curved greatsword moveset which is pretty time tested to be good, but it has a unique weapon art that both attacks can true combo into and which the last slash sends you backwards, giving it a unique evasive flair.

Its not the most powerful in terms of raw damage but it makes up for it with its versatility and utility.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              AR while One-handed: 27/40 512AR - 40/40 533AR - 27/53 530AR
                                                                              AR while Two-handed: 27/40 533AR - 40/40 541AR - 27/53 551AR
I therefore recommend to go for 27STR and than level DEX even past the softcap depending on your stats investment.

                                                                              • Anonymous

Played around with this a bit now, and it can really pack a punch. Base 1h damage at 40/40 is 533 AR. I used Power Within and it jumped to 640. I threw on the Pontiff's Right Eye and attacked some mobs with the buff on and the highest I caught my damage at was 776 in the stats screen. That, plus the weapon art is pretty awesome for baiting someone to attack you and the dodging away. Loving this weapon so far.

You get the damage bonus even if you arent using it. it could be on your back or offhand and you could still gain from the passive. that and it also has two true combo's being R1-WA and Charged R2-WA. This thing is kinda underatted but in my opinion it has the best weapon art out of all the other curved greatswords.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

I don't know why anyone would trade this sword. It looks awesome, it's got great buffs, a unique multistage WA, and pretty good scaling if one were to make a quality build. It's is hilariously overpowered against the Deacons of the Deep.
