Puncturing Arrow | ![]() |

Onislayer Greatbow is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.
A unique greatbow handed down in an eastern land, where tales are told of its use in slaying giant horned oni.
Drawing a bow of this size takes time, and leaves the user vulnerable. Only specialized great arrows can be fired from the bow.
Skill: Puncturing Arrow
Masterfully fires off a great arrow that pierces through all enemies in its path, inflicting damage.
Notes and Tips:
- Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
- Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite.
- It's range value is 63, the highest range for any kind of bow.
- Since bows cannot be used without being 2-handed, the "true" Strength requirement for this weapon is 12.
- This greatbow deals less damage than other greatbows, but it's strength resides in it's sniping capabilities.
- Scaling is weird on this weapon.
- Strength bonus peaks at 27 Strength (18 by two-handing).
- Dexterity peak scaling bonus is reached at 36 Dex.
- It softcaps at 40 Dex.
- You get mediocre scaling up to 55 Dex.
- Very bad scaling up to 75 Dex.
- And relatively good scaling up to 99 Dex.
- Leveling up from 12 to 18 Strength provides better damage than going above 40 Dexterity.
- Optimal stats: 18 Strength 40 Dexterity.
- Resembles the Alonne Greatbow from Dark Souls 2.
- Damage may vary depending on ammunition(great arrows).
Location/Where to Find

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen). The higher the scaling letter, the higher the percent multiplier applied to the [Attack: Stat].This resulting bonus damage is added to the base physical damage of the weapon and is shown in the equipment screen in blue numbers as a "+ X".
Durability: The weapon's HP, when the durability hits 0, the effectiveness of its attacks become weakened to the point of almost uselessness. When an items durability is low, a message will come up saying "Weapon At Risk!" at this point the weapon does not perform at it's best.
Weight: How much the item weights when equipped.
Stability: How well the player keeps stance after being hit
Attack Type: Defines what kind of swing set the weapon has: Regular(R), Thrust(T), Slash(Sl), Strike(St)
Why doesn't the pkcs guy come over here and say "haha the best greatbow is PKCS"?

Fun fact: onislayer greatarrows are considerably smaller in model size than Milwood or dragonslayer greatarrows, so these are harder to find with obscuring ring. Plus, they don't stagger, so it makes some assume you're using a normal bow.
Yes, I should be posting this on the greatarrow page. No, no one visits those pages. So I'm posting it here

If only alonne knight set and katana was in the game. It's just such a cool looking set of armor, plus the katana and this bow looks swag as hell... alonne knights had some serious drip.

"but it's strength resides in it's sniping capabilities"
ITS strength.
ITS sniping capabilities.

from what i can gather, the easterner's favor and brandish sharp, lacerating slashing blades, which hints that oni are not likely to be of thick hide or tough scales, but rather of flesh that no blunt or standard weapon would cut, like demons from dark souls 1,

This makes me kinda curious how oni look like in Dark Souls. I wanna travel to the eastern land mentioned in these games and kill some oni lol

The range really isn't worth it in my experience, unless maybe sniping the summoners in the ringed city. Millwood still cleans house with hawk ring in most situations though

Wished that the Alonne Knight's armor set were in Dark Souls 3, would be really cool to cosplay with this bow when shooting people off cliffs... that can't see you cosplaying...

This is good for PvP when combined with Obscuring Ring. You can hide in distant, shoot arrow for around 300-500 Damage with 40/40 STR/DEX build and when they try to get closer just run further away. They can't locate you, but you can attack them to help enemies take care of them. Killed off invader 3 player gank squad with this.
Is this cowardly? Yes.
But is it effective? Yes.

Someone else said this already, but it is literally the alonne greatbow from DS2. I thought this was cool because it's the game i've played the most out of the soulsborne series and i've used it a bit in that game. "The east" in this game is clearly in reference to Shiva from DS1, but i also believe Drangleic, and in extention the Iron Keep, is to the east. Drangleic is mentioned in DS2 to be one kingdom in a chain of many all built in the same spot Drangleic was in at the time of DS2, i believe maybe this could include Shiva's homeland as well and would indicate why you'd find both Drangleic gear and the eastern armor (Shiva's set) mentioning "The east".

I like how it says "If you Consider 2-handing" as if there is any other way to fire a Greatbow, let alone any bow in Dark Souls. you do realize, in order to use a bow or a greatbow, you have to hold it IN BOTH HANDS, right? So 1 hand damage output information is completely uselss... It's a minor detail, but we could at least pretend to be people who have actually played the game if we're going to be updating the games wiki...

So is the range really the worst of the great bows? Or is the wiki wrong.
- Anonymous
The damage is kinda trash. It's just kinda infeferior to the dragonslayer greatbow. Why would you use this?
- Anonymous
Good weapon overall. Just dont attempt to use it on boss fights, you will get hit while drawing the bow (regardless of the distance between you and the boss). Use a longbow or crossbow if you need to, instead. Attack speed beats everything in this game when it comes to boss fights after the pontiff.

If this greatbow is used for slaying oni (Japanese for demons or ogres) from afar, I wonder if it does bonus damage against demons, similar to the Black Knight weapons.

If you consider 2 handing, optimal stats are 18 Str 40 Dex.If you consider 2 handing, optimal stats areIf you consider 2 handing, optimalIf you consider 2 handing...a bowR u telling me u considered operating a bow with one hand fgt?http://media.npr.org/assets/img/2012/09/07/stutzman_wide-6c4e7868cc313f8849f188451e13c754d017eb40-s900-c85.jpg

Who wrote this? Never go past 50 in any stat. The whole paragraph complaining about dex scaling is garbage
Woever Wrote this Tip .... since Dark Souls 1 the 50 % two handing bonus doesn't apply to Bows -.- it would be stupid and pointless if it did

I just realised, this bow looks like the alonne greatbow. Maybe....

Which has better AR at +5; Onislayer (194 base) D/B/-/- @ 20/60/-/- or Dragonslayer (220 base) D/C/-/- @ 20/60/-/- ? Or would either be better at 40/40/-/- ?
It's slow but ***** is it cool looking.Thing's a Dragonslayer Greatbow for Dex builds. Its good. Load it with Dragonslayer Arrows, stay hidden, and become the gravity to gankers.

Samurai are known to wield the katana usually, but they also practiced other kinds of weapons like the kanabo club, the naginata, the Yumi bow, and the flintlock musket if I recall correctly. This greatbow greatly resembles a Yumi bow. Gonna add this to my samurai cosplay.

Does this bow push enemy players over like the Dragonslayer Greatbow?

Step 1: equip obscuring ring. Step 2: drop rubbish or dung pie near cliff. Step 3: shoot them from far enough away to be obscured. Step 4: listen to scream as they fall to their death.

Not very good for pve compared to using pharis or longbow, the arrows cost too much. I could do the same damage (500 for a +5 onislayer) with a +10 pharis in two hits and still have a lot of stamina left. It's probably really fun in invasions where you can use the puncturing arts to decimate everyone as a purple.

So, aside from the animation difference between this and the dragonslayer greatbow, and the 3 fp cost difference for both "identical" weapon skills, is there any difference aside from the damage? it's just weird to me that this would have a lower fp cost for it's weapon art when it's functionally the same, but that's probably a good thing due to the lower damage.
