Pickle Pee, Pump-a-Rum Crow (or "Nestling") is an NPC in Dark Souls 3.

  • You cannot attack this NPC and you cannot see her.

Location

Trade

In order to trade with it/them, drop an item (by selecting 'leave' in the item menu) on either the roof nest or the nest in the shrine rafters, and pick up the item she gives you in return. Unlike Dark Souls 1 and Demon Souls, you do NOT need to reload the area (quitting to title screen, resting at a bonfire, etc.) in order to finalize the trade—simply pick up the item on the ground after leaving your tradable item. If you reload the area, both your item and the item she gives in exchange WILL be lost. If she doesn't want the item you offered, she will simply say no and return your item.

You may only trade one of each item per New Game cycle.

Note: You also learn the Call Over Gesture the first time you trade an item that gives a "Pickle pee" response from the crow. It works with Mendicant's Staff (Screenshot) (Eleonora, and Avelyn still needs verification)

Note: The weapons you offer must NOT be upgraded for the trade to be accepted (for example, if you offer a Avelyn+1 the trade won't go off).

Dialogue

First encounter dialogue

You, you! Me me Pickle Pee! Me, me Pump-a-rum!"

(trade) "Pump-a-rum, pump-a-rum!"

(trade) "Pickle-pee, pickle-pee!"

(no trade) "You, you. No, no. That no pickle pee, that no pump-a-rum."

(same item) "You, you. Not that. Enough, enough."

(all items?) "???"

Trivia

  • "Pickle-pee" and "Pump-a-rum" come from an old children's poem called "The Ceremonial Band" by James Reeves. In the poem, "pickle-pee" is the sound of a fife and "pump-a-rum" is the sound of a drum.
  • The crow is referred to as "Nestling" in the end credits, and is voiced by Clare Corbett. The official strategy guide refers to the crow as 'The Nestling of Firelink Shrine (Snuggly The Crow)" and states the crow is rumored to be named Snuggly.
  • Demon's Souls version is known as Sparkly the Crow, because she only accepted sparkling items.
  • Dark Souls version is known as Snuggly the Crow, because she only accepted warm and soft items.
  • Dark Souls II version is known as Dyna & Tilo.

Something not listed here, if you drop a dookie in their nest they give you a slower, more pained "That... no... pickle pee..."

Thought the items were like DS1, so I dropped rubbish into the nest.

Now I feel bad, obviously rubbish is not pump-a-rum.

i dunno why folks think the bird name is "pickle pee" or "pumparum".
when it's saying "me me pickle pee", it's not saying "i'm pickle pee", it's meaning "gimme some pickle pee".
pickle pee and pump a rum are the bird's words (heh) for items. in the bird's language, pickle pee obviously means something to the bird.
if you look at the list of items, it's all really arbitrary and random. . .
but it almost seems that pickle pee is referring to offensive combat items, like certain weapons and shields and bombs and lightning urns, while pump a rum is referring to defensive and restorative items like hidden blessing . . but then i might have those mixed up. there must be some logic linking all the items and why they belong in each category.
my point is that pickle pee and pump a rum are categories of items, not the bird's name.
if we go by DS1, everyone called the bird "Snuggly", i guess because it asks for "soft and warm" and the devs knew veterans would understand that and decided to make the bird's language more obtuse

Fun fact: don't drop a coiled fragment in your girlfriend's nest. I tried that and she freaked and sicced her dog on me.

to anyone trying firebomb - they are not the same. The normal firebomb gives large titantie shard while the black firebomb gives the chunk!

by the way, the sacred chime trade only works if the chime does not provide any further effects. it must be named ‘sacred chime’ not ‘sacred chime of …’. trust me i’ve got 30 sacred chimes.. and now a lot of help me carvings

                  • She instantly drops her trade, it looks like that item is the one you dropped, but its her trade, don't reload the area!! Learned the hardway cause i thought it was like demon's souls

Pickle dee, pumple rump, how can I talk to you? I leave you this, I leave you that, and all I get is humple stump.

Friendly Advice: ALWAYS wear the CAT RING to trade with the crows. You don't want to fall to your death and permanently miss an item for that playthrough.

I went to trade in some items and got dc'd while dropping items and now I lost everything. You can't even give the same item twice in the same playthrough if you happen to lose it because reasons. Thank you Dark Souls.

Since you can do each trade once per new game its better to give the coiled sword fragment before going to ng+ to not miss a Slab

Bloodborne's version is known as Eileen the Crow, because, come on. And she only accepts hoonters that hoont.

Don't trade undead bone shard until ng+. Failing to reach "ultimate bonfire" on ng blocked the achievement for the character.

I did not know you can now just pick the item up and don't have to return to the bonfire first. Using Homeward makes the item disappear, that much I learned when I left a Siegbrau...

nobody going to mention that it has to be yorkshas chime and not just any sacred one. Got denyed for all of them except yorks.

So fun fact. If you drop an item (my case lighting urn) and accidently hit the back jump button off the rafters and die before picking up the item, the item will not be there when you return and dropping another lighting urn will be refused. Got rejected an iron helm, rip solaire cosplay.

Everyone depicts Pickle Pee as like a cute anime harpy in fan art and stuff, what if From Soft one day confirms what she looks like and she’s actually one of the ****in crow demons from the painted world in ds1

Looks like quite a few people skipped DS2 and missed out on the QoL change of not needing to reload or kill yourself for the nest item to change. That karma come back with a vengeance.

It should noted. None of the equipment you hand in can be upgraded. Not just the Mendicant's Staff.

I got rejected everytime I tried popping in +'d gear.

The first time I ever traded an item I thought it was like Dark Souls 1. I quit the game and re-entered, and, to my surprise, the item was gone.
                                              Genius move.

You can trade with her twice in the same playthrough by going to both of her nests by not leaving the area and hitting both locations right after each other

i dropped my coiled sword fragment and exit the game cuz i thought it was the same like DS1. Good thing that Dark Souls is a game where you dont have to look up every single thing cuz***** like this could happen.

                                                      • Anonymous

This doesn't work the way it did in DS1. IF YOU RELOAD AFTER DROPPING THE ITEM YOU GET NOTHING. The item is switched on the ground the moment you dropped it, just pick it back up. How is this not in the comments yet?

                                                        • Anonymous

the fact that these kinds of exchanges are in the game pretty much seals the fact that the devs expect the game to be played using guides. how would we know otherwise?

Your character never questions the voice of a crack addict coming from a bird nest offering to trade items with you. This npc truly predicted the DS3 trading subreddit

when you throw rubbish it has a different reacts. it didnt take rubbish and says "you you, no no,that no pickle pee, that no pump a rum.

                                                                • Anonymous

without a tower key, you can still access her nest with a little bit dashing+jumping skills...remember there is a tree next to the roof? There are certain parts of it that you can dash on for an instance. Dash to it, then jump right toward the roof. A few trial and you may get to the roof. Then just walk a bit and you'll find a gate to the ceiling and a nest. Don't fall on there cuz the height kills.

                                                                  • Some say it's not worth. So first point: you can get 2 large titaine shards soooo early. You can. Make your weapon +4 way before the game would let you normally. Same thing with twinkling titanite. Or the praise the sun arm part and the chest part very early. The chest part is Not a bad gear at all. And it isn't so heavy, but good stats. And lots more good stuff.. So please don't talk about things you have no idea from!

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

The single exception being the "Sacred Chime of Fillianore" which results in "That no pickle pee... that no pump a rum..." This is likely a programming oversight, rather than a bug.

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Believe it or not, one of the things that disappointed me about this game was learning that this crow was nowhere near as endearing and fun to trade with as the two birds from Dark Souls 2; quite the opposite in fact. I find this one as unbearable to listen to as the one from Dark Souls, with the same annoying kid voice and this monotonous and emotionless tone that shows no enthusiasm at all about trading. I'm actually glad there's little reason to go up there, since other than the various titanite stones the rest of his stock is virtually worthless. And honestly, unless you have a massive hard-on for Solaire, you have to be out of your mind to give up a Mendicant's Staff for a Sunlight Shield.

                                                                                • Anonymous

If you go the nest on the roof of the shrine you can trade there and there is plenty of room to move around without falling. You DO NOT need to go onto the rafters inside the shrine to trade.

                                                                                  • Anonymous
