Reapers have long reach and a unique sweeping moveset, and most are Bleed weapons. These weapons are particularly useful for sneaking damage behind shields, when swung with proper spacing.
Reapers have a "sweet spot" in which they will do bonus damage when swung at the precise range that their blade reaches the target, and will perform less powerfully when struck with the shaft of the weapon if you are too close to the target. Reapers will also deal chip damage through shields if the "sweet spot" lands, even if the shield has a 100% physical block.

God I hate how objectively better Friede's scythe is compared to the others

scythes are like a fusion of ultra greatswords with axes, they swing as fast as axes but have the range of ultra greatswords... *sigh* and they dare to say that dexterity builds are weak lol

Friede's great scythe is the best scythe for pyro/sorcerer builds bc of the scaling, you can invest very little points into dex and still have good phys damage. And i mean sure the magic damage is only useful for the WA but you will be constantly using it bc of the dps. Im in ng+2 and the dps is still good.

Good weapons with long reach. Don't expect to nuke people, and they have little poise, but the movesets and chip damage are great. Also, can we appreciate how it took 3 games to have scythes actually use swiping attacks with the sharp part instead of smashing them into people or the ground

I want to make a Grim Reaper character and would like some help choosing the armor for it. What should I use? I am either going to wield Friede's Great Scythe or the Great Corvian Scythe.

If you have patience and build properly scythes can be extremely fun. Give yourself plenty of vigor and endurance and you’ll be set. Too often I see people rushing the damage for a weapon, but they just get nuked on hit. Ya can’t kill your enemies if you’re dead ;)

It's strange that Friede's Great Scythe deals frost build-up but the Pontiff Knight Great Scythe doesn't.

I seen someone do a gesture with a scythe where they spin it and lift it up in front of them with the blade pointing up, does anyone know what this gesture is?

Scythes are so underrated, I'm surprised they aren't meta. You have a weapon with slightly slower swing speed of a straight sword, but slightly greater damage than a straight sword and the range of a halberd. It's a a fast weapon so its surprisingly easy to catch great weapon users early on during wind-up frames of attack animation and stagger them. And it pierces shields like no tomorrow at least 80-94 damage pierced per swing compared to shotels, which deal average 37 damage per swing. People also don't realize they are best utilized at <30% equip load. You long roll out of an attack, walk back for half a second and use normal attack. The distance is a sweet spot, just out of range of even UGS weapons when you time attacks right. It's a shame that there aren't more scythes, 7 of them would have been nice. And Neck Swipe kinda sucks BTW. If the Pontiff Knight Great Scythe were infusable, it would have made for the best scythe easily.

Honestly "Reapers" are just not as great as they used to, there is also almost no variety on them as well, it's just a sad class of weapon, but you got to admit they do have a flashy moveset

I give up. Tried Corvian and Friedes because I loved the Lifehunt Scythe in DS1. But nothing works for me as Invader. If I hit them they loose maybe a fifth of their health. When I on the other side am already half dead if we trade. And that's when we have a 1 on 1. Maybe I'm too aggressive. Maybe the arena might be the right place for me in the end but I want to invade no matter what. But reapers either collide with my playstyle or are indeed to weak for invasions.

Reapers? ***** that they are Scythes someone change it... Im austistic

That's the new dlc scythe it's for int/dex with dual a scaling at max quite good (except if you buck fire bomb when they weapon art then run and combo on there chase)
- Anonymous
Has anybody seen someone using a dual scythe? i came against someone who had a scythe i didnt recognize with basically a metal pole as a secondary that would turn into a scythe and he had a very aggressive weapon art when the two were combined. The flow of his attacks were like Pontif's and he would float through the air as he performed it.

these really need a buff, and hopefully the dlc adds more of them.

Here's a table I just made depicting the damage output of every scythe depending on the build and infusion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vSZfkgynqKbrLvP2sRnKYvSdKHBGjwE2Yd_DXBP7bck/edit#gid=0I put a few comments on why you would chose each scythe over the other two.Oh, do I love the scythes!
- Anonymous
For regulation 1.09, they added "shield-piercing properties to regular attacks".Does it mean I can go through shield outside of the sweet spot?Or does it only concers weapons that didn't have this property for all of their attacks?Because if this is the case, that would be a nice little buff here!
If anyone here's seen footage of it, I think they'll agree that it's such a shame the Lothric Great Scythe was cut content. It looks incredible design wise.Maybe, hopefully they'll at least salvage the weapons model and just make it a new weapon in the DLC.
- Anonymous
you will most assuredly be disappointed by the fact these have the damage of actual gardening scythes from which they were made to do
- Anonymous
Section should be called "Scythes" not "Reapers". Reapers are the people who use scythes.
- Anonymous
so the weapons all say scythe.... they are known throughout the real world as scythes..... they are classified in-game as scythes..... why are these in a category names reapers?
As much as I love the Reapers of Dark Souls 3 (especially the Corvian and Pontiff Scythes), it's a little disappointing to only see three in the base game. Hopefully the future DLC will add a few more.

These can't be the only scythes right? I mean there's only 3 from what I'm seeing and DkS 3 still has a lot of unexplored secrets right? RIGHT??
Easily the worst class of weapons in Dark Souls 2, their movesets were all insufferably bad, weird and clunky. Make reapers great once more, or at least the Great Scythe, topnotch weapon in Dark Souls 1, pretty crap in Dark Souls 2.
You will miss Burial Blade moveset after playing Bloodborne.
