Seed of a Giant Tree is a Consumable in Dark Souls 3.

Seed of a Giant Tree

Makes enemies react to invaders.

The giant trees were also known as watcher trees, and their seeds unmask invaders.

When used effectively, these seeds will help counter dark spirits.

Seed of a Giant Tree Usage

  • Use to make enemies hostile towards invaders.
  • Also reacts to NPC invaders.
  • Especially effective against Londor Pale Shade and Knight Slayer Tsorig since they tends to invade areas with large amount of enemies nearby.
  • Drop at the crow nest to receive the Iron Leggings - the leg part of the Armor of the Sun Set

Seed of a Giant Tree Locations

  • Obtained from the dead giant-shaped tree at both Firelink Shrines in the Cemetery of Ash and Untended Graves. Look just before the Tower Door near the cliff.
  • 10% chance to spawn when invaded. Increases by 10% each time until maxing at 50%. Resets to 10% when obtained.

Notes

  • The tree can only have one seed waiting to be collected at a time, even if multiple invaders have been banished since you last checked the tree.
  • Players can hold 3 seeds at a time and store 600.
  • As of Regulation 1.33 App Version 1.13, Seeds now only last for 45 seconds, but their spawn rate has been increased
  • You can also no longer trade Seeds with other players. You can drop them, but no one else will be able to see them and pick them up.
  • As an invader, you can tell if the host has used a seed by the status effect icon (rather than waiting to see whether NPCs attack you)

Is there any way to tell your host to use this? I've gotten Blue'd into Irithyll dungeons too many times and the Jailers make it way too easy for the invader to 1v3 and I just need 10 of these stupid ranks for the ring

All the damn gankers on here complaining about the time nerf, if we could get some 1v1s instead of always getting ganked by cowards who could play the game without their phantoms, we wouldn't run away so much.

I returned to Dark Souls 3 and just discovered the seed was not working anymore... and I saw there was a patch with that 45 seconds... that's really sad because it was a funny item. Now, coward invaders just hide for 45 seconds and come back. All invaders I get are like "take damage, run, heal, take damage, run, heal..." that's very tiring.

Was on my way to collect my slab after Midir and got invaded while fighting the ringed knight before the harolds. Popped a seed and let the knight smack the invader along with the turtle monk. Dude ran away, came back healed and then i charged my dragon slayer axe weapon art and one shot the dude... 10/10 would dark souls again...

I agree with most that 45 seconds is way to little time. I could respect that if these were items that you could simply buy, that would be totally reasonable, as you could have 100s stored in your inventory and not be afraid to use all 3 in the course of an invasion where, like most invaders, intentionally invade areas were there are strong and plentiful enemies. But even if the drop rate was 100% for every invader, these would still be very scarce. 45 seconds of level playing field seems to be a poor reward for killing invaders.

To those complaining that the seed doesn't last long enough, you need to quickitem or toolbar it and pop it the moment an invader runs to some mobs for protection. You want to pop it the moment you get the invasion message? That's just lazy.

Maybe the drop rate was 10% back in 2016, but now it appears to be 100%. I started a NG recently, and I've gotten a seed literally each and every time I've been invaded. This includes NPC invaders.

45 seconds is *****ing useless.... should last until all phantoms are gone from your world. Reduce its drop rate significantly to balance.

Probably the most powerful tool in the game when used properly. Most invaders run away into mobs when they start losing. So this is the best way to deal with those cowards, especially healing invaders who run away and heal/buff behind a bunch of mobs. The way too get them is a little bit too hard though. I had to keep hopping all over the place summoning phantoms and using the fingers just to get one, but honestly that's the only problem I have with them. (i dont gank btw, my friends just kill themselves when i get invaded while farming, i have honor)

Always thought it was ridiculous that invaders were impervious to enemies anyways. If you summon a friend to help you and enemies can hit him, they should be able to hit invaders anyways. Dumb mechanic that takes a lot of the risk out of it for invaders. I used this on some a** wipe the other day and it worked great, could totally tell he wasn't expecting it. Can't believe I just discovered it and will be using it a lot more often now.

Found a neat trick that saves time to harvest those, just speak to patches to dissipate the fog instead of going all the way to Ludex bonfire and walking back. -Lewd

Everyone keeps complaining about how deadly these can be in invading. If you think I'm NOT going to swap it out for the sunbro armor, you're nuts.
