Seed of a Giant Tree is a Consumable in Dark Souls 3.

Seed of a Giant Tree

seed of a giant tree

Makes enemies react to invaders.

The giant trees were also known as watcher trees, and their seeds unmask invaders.

When used effectively, these seeds will help counter dark spirits.

Seed of a Giant Tree Usage

Seed of a Giant Tree Locations

  • Obtained from the dead giant-shaped tree in the Firelink Shrine and Untended Graves. Look just before the Tower Door near the cliff.
  • 10% chance to spawn when invaded. Increases by 10% each time until maxing at 50%. Resets to 10% when obtained.

Notes

  • The tree can only have one seed waiting to be collected at a time, even if multiple invaders have been banished since you last checked the tree.
  • Players can hold 3 seeds at a time and store 600.
  • As of Regulation 1.33 App Version 1.13, Seeds now only last for 45 seconds, but their spawn rate has been increased
  • You can also no longer trade Seeds with other players. You can drop them, but no one else will be able to see them and pick them up.
  • As an invader, you can tell if the host has used a seed by the status effect icon (rather than waiting to see whether NPCs attack you)

Don't forget that fighting the Spear of the Church boss (whether it's a player or Halflight) counts as an invasion, so check the tree for a seed after the fight. And since that fight can be reset indefinitely via the Purging Monument, theoretically you could grind seeds to your heart's content.

Was patiently sniping the first summoner in ringed city (with the 3000 archers) while some smartass guy decided to invade me and tried to snipe me and knock me off with his own greatbow while I was trying to finish off this damn summoner. Popped a seed and he went back to his momma after being instantly pierced by 3000 yellow arrows.

found this on the ground, didn't know it even existed. then went to the painted world, some guy invaded me, I used this, he immediately died and after he died, a blade of the darkmoon spawned in, hopefully getting his concord. I should stay embered in the painted world more often if the pvp times are so quick. hope I get more of this item too, this was funny

really just want someone to invade my world so i can banish them, get this and finally use it to complete my armor of the sun set!

            • Anonymous

till this day I still hate invaders. Yall literally have a red summon sign and still want intrude on another player's good time. That's what yall do. Yall have options but yall choose to invade. Literally one of the biggest downsides to Dark Souls as a whole. I'd sooner prefer an invadeless mode than have to deal with people literally getting in my way.

And by that mode I mean I actually get to play with my friends or support randoms in enjoying their playthrough. Not offline. I literally will just turn my console off and switch games cuz FromSoft really thought their entire player base were sadomasochists.

Is it a 10% chance per finished invasion or can I just farm the same NPC invasion and keep boneward homing?

                • Anonymous

As an invader, I kind of wish they where permanent as they suck major balls rn. It's not like it's that frequently used or anything. Also I kind of wish I could trade them to do random shenanigans

                  • I just wanted to know if you could drop seeds for people you're invading or funny gimmick uses they have, somehow I wasn't expecting a three-ring circus in the comments. If losing invasions in Dark Souls is the greatest hardship in your life, I envy you

if you don't want to get invaded just don't be embered bro
but I guess carebears can't fathom this idea because they need every crutch they can get to beat a computer script

Reminder: If I’m in MY OWN world, and you invade me, you do NOT make the rules. Be as mad about it as you want; my ONLY objective is to survive. As an invader, you are an unwanted, uninvited guest in my world. An invadee has absolutely zero obligation to follow whatever arbitrary set of rules the invader has set. Don’t want 2v1 fights? Do red summon sign PvP then. You don’t have a right to complain that the guys playing through the game together ganged up on you when you intruded into their world.

Basically, invade if you want to, but don’t expect the people you’re invading to make it easy on you or follow your rules.

I hate all you invaders. Until I get better… then I’ll hate all you people complaining about invaders

If there was even a slight chance of spawn when invaded and increases each time then why I don't have a bunch of them while I've been doing PvP for over a year using Dried Fingers?

                            • Anonymous

People seem to use this wrong. Don't use it just to kill the invader- use it to trick enemies into chasing the invader, giving you an opportunity to pass by safely while both the enemies and the invaders are distracted. Of course, if the invaders are dumb enough to die to the PVE of all things, that's their fault.

I'm mostly invader and I don't really mind this item. It has short duration and evading mobs isn't that hard. When I get invaded i use it mostly when red is ****ing around (dude, I'm not going to play hide and seek, come to me or get lost), or hides behind mobs like a coward (I don't mean hide and heal then go back, I mean refuses to fight 1v1). As a red it annoys me mainly when I'm solo against a gank and they also seed the world (like, seriously?).

                                • Use this against Londor Pale Shade's invasion in Farron Keep, and watch him get cursed within seconds. Then, you can return to Firelink and there's a good chance your seed is refunded at the tree. Also works for Farron Heysel, and most invaders in that area of the swamp.

Tsorig in the Catacombs (after you cut the bridge) can also get blendered by the skeleton horde while you stand safely on the other side, and Londor Pale Shade (again) getting mauled by dogs is poetic in its justice.

                                  I love this thing.

As an invader, you are a developer-enabled griefer. You intend to put a damper on my progress by invading anywhere outside of Pontiff’s backyard. And thus, I will put a damper on your enjoyment of invading.

If you try to invade me while I’m PvEing, I am 100% going to make you fight 2 blues AND every enemy around you as I sprint towards to fog gate to get more titanite slabs. You sign up to grief me you sign up to get cheesed lmao

I occasionally do invasions but I wish they didn't nerf this, hostile mobs make invasions more chaotic & fun

Please use seeds as much as possible. Bringing a giant train of monsters to where you’re turtling with your phantom buddies and watching you all get murdered never gets old.

Had an invader invader me dropped his health enough he ran to mobs and waited well guess who had this item

is possible to obtain the seed whitout playing online? im playing the pirate version cus i dont got money to buy the steam version, at least for now...

Just watched an invader at a distance use path of the dragon gesture beside 2 giants and get mauled after I used this seed

                                              • Anonymous

Love using this against invaders who try to lure you into obvious traps/ They don't expect the mobs to suddenly target then and then they die.

Come on, I'm not going to run into your obvious traps. I know where the dangerous enemies are and I know you're trying to lead me into them.

And the number 1 rule of pvp in this game is never make the first hit too.

this 45 sec thing bugs me so much. I'm fine with it being something you can only rarely use, but I'm terrible at PVP and this thing gave me that rare opportunity to stick it to an invader just once, before getting murked by the next 8 guys

                                                  • Anonymous

I wish you could drop it because the one time when it was basically mandatory (darkmooned to a host at the start of ringed city and the invader was just waiting in the midst of the archer ghosts.

And the host was running around like a chicken with his head cut off thinking the phantom would come to him. This is quite literally THE time to use your seed.

                                                    • Anonymous

I remember popping one of these and hiding from the invader with white branch while everyone atacked him, but that was back in the first months of the game, now this is unviable because it lasts 45secs

                                                      • Anonymous

I'm an invader - but I also play single player, the fact they nerfed this is beyond annoying with the amount of annoying running invaders.

                                                        • Anonymous

I'm a long time member of the FGC, so I know full well that players are well within their rights to use features implemented in a game. You can bet your ass though that I get a little ticked when a 4 man ganksquad spamming Straight-Sword R1's in non-parryable intervals pops a Seed when I'm understandably trying to use my ONLY advantage in an Invasion. In short: I respect the Seed, but not the Hosts that use them when they've already got ridiculously insurmountable odds in their favor.

As someone who does a lot of PVP, if I invade someone and they use this I get happy because I feel like not enough people use it and it changes up the dynamic of the fight to something that doesn't happen often. Invaders who complain about this item just don't know how to win a fight with out ganking or spamming spells. Don't like it when fights are even now that mobs can also attack you as well as the host? Then Git Gud.

Pretty sure the drop can be triggered from other events too. I recall having runs when it has just dropped me one even when I haven't been invaded at all.

                                                              • Anonymous

I think it was safe to get them with cheat engine, when they were tradeable. Does anybody know if it is still safe or will it result in a ban now, since they are not tradeable anymore? Not that I would do that, just curious.

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

When you invade, you will use everything available trying to kill me then of course I will use everything available trying to kill you, simple as that. No one invited you to my world dude.

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

So I teleported back to the main bonfire to get the seed and use it against him. It had no effect. Not even the giant archer noticed.

                                                                              • Anonymous

If you invade after this is cast only the already established invaders will be susceptible to mob attacks. Happened a couple times invading as a mad phantom.

                                                                                • Anonymous

I'm going to incite a lot of salt with this comment but I don't care. You can essentially trade embers for seeds by just dying to NPC invaders over and over, and going back to check the tree after every invasion. The drop rate is very high, haven'y tested it extensively but the number of invasions by the same NPC doesn't seem to affect it. Alva is great invasion for this since he spawns right near a bonfire. Speaking of Alva, if you don't mind the long run from the Ringed City bonfire, you can get seeds without investing embers because Seeker of the Spurned invades whether you're embered or not.

All it does is pad my supply of Seeds because I know I won't need to use one there. Seriously though, last 3 cycles, like within a minute of spawning behind the door at the start area, I get invaded. What is it with this area that makes it so popular for invaders? Is it the fact that they don't get to invade players there in their NG cycle?

I've gotten Blue'd into Irithyll dungeons too many times and the Jailers make it way too easy for the invader to 1v3 and I just need 10 of these stupid ranks for the ring

                                                                                                                • Anonymous

Now, coward invaders just hide for 45 seconds and come back. All invaders I get are like "take damage, run, heal, take damage, run, heal..." that's very tiring.

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Popped a seed and let the knight smack the invader along with the turtle monk. Dude ran away, came back healed and then i charged my dragon slayer axe weapon art and one shot the dude... 10/10 would dark souls again...

I agree with most that 45 seconds is way to little time. I could respect that if these were items that you could simply buy, that would be totally reasonable, as you could have 100s stored in your inventory and not be afraid to use all 3 in the course of an invasion where, like most invaders, intentionally invade areas were there are strong and plentiful enemies. But even if the drop rate was 100% for every invader, these would still be very scarce. 45 seconds of level playing field seems to be a poor reward for killing invaders.

                                                                                                                      • Anonymous

You want to pop it the moment you get the invasion message? That's just lazy.

                                                                                                                        • Anonymous

I started a NG recently, and I've gotten a seed literally each and every time I've been invaded. This includes NPC invaders.

                                                                                                                            • Anonymous

Probably the most powerful tool in the game when used properly. Most invaders run away into mobs when they start losing. So this is the best way to deal with those cowards, especially healing invaders who run away and heal/buff behind a bunch of mobs. The way too get them is a little bit too hard though. I had to keep hopping all over the place summoning phantoms and using the fingers just to get one, but honestly that's the only problem I have with them. (i dont gank btw, my friends just kill themselves when i get invaded while farming, i have honor)

If you summon a friend to help you and enemies can hit him, they should be able to hit invaders anyways. Dumb mechanic that takes a lot of the risk out of it for invaders. I used this on some a** wipe the other day and it worked great, could totally tell he wasn't expecting it. Can't believe I just discovered it and will be using it a lot more often now.
