Spiked Mace is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.



Choice weapon of the evangelists of the Cathedral of the Deep, mentors of the dwellers of the Undead Settlement. Its long, sharp spikes cause great pain and bleeding.

Skill: Spin Bash
Bash foes with a large spinning motion, and utilize momentum to transition into an overhanded strong attack smash.



Notes and Tips:

  • Can be Infused and Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Titanite.
  • Uncommonly for a Great Hammer, it requires DEX to wield.
  • True combos include R1>L2>R1 and R1>Forward+R2.

Parameter Bonus: Strength, Dexterity,Magic, Fire, Lightning and Dark bonuses - The scaling multiplier applied to the [Attack: stat]. Scaling quality is from highest to lowest as follows: S/A/B/C/D/E.The higher the player's [Str, Dex, Mag, Fire, Light] stat, the higher the [Attack Bonus: Stat] is (found on the player status screen).       (PVE) The damage of this weapon in a Strength build is good but the real thing is the R2 Hyperarmor and combo, kill a lot of Ringed/Lothric/Black Knights with this weapon, really fun

        I've only ever used it in PvE, but I'm slightly disappointed at how the Evangelist can absolutely wreck you with this, but for PvE, there are better greathammers. It's disappointing because it looks pretty cool, has a good moveset and induces bleeding. I can see how much better it would be in PvP though but when I'm doing more damage with BKS at 40/40 str/dex, I can't help but wish it were stronger.

          R1, L2, R1, win. Unironically the second best greathammer, only topped by Ledo's. And no, I am not talking about damage, but versatility, instead of having that shitty version of perseverance that is never useful outside of PVE, it has a relatively quick spin to win WA that lets you get 3 hits off. And yes, by that standard, the Great Wooden Hammer is the third best greathammer.

          • Overrated weapon at lower levels up to 40-45. Next to impossible to get to spin to win without a dimwit on the other end. They know what is coming, they see it, and next to nobody falls for it.
            Plus the spin to win you have to literally be within hugs distance, the extension for this weapon is terrible. If you add on the bonus that you might land a bleed because of dipshittery, I give this weapon a 6/10 for stupidity.

                    Wait a minute, the picture up top of the base weapon says it starts out with 43 bleed. And yet, the upgrade table for regular +10 shows that it has 33 bleed. So apparently, just upgrading the weapon 10 times causes it to lose 10 bleed?

                                The Evengalist in the cathedral of the deep (the one upstsairs after the forts giant) has dropped this every single time for me. Either that mob has 100 % droprate first time kill or i have been lucky beyond belief. I hope it is the latter smileyface

                                • I am playing since weeks in the undead settlement and likely have killed more than 100 of these Evangelists and got only one Spiked Mace so far. The drop rate for this weapon must be insanely low. My char can't use the weapon I would need to make a new char and then farm the weapon, I am not sure about if this will be fun if you don't get it for days and days.

                                    I am playing since weaks in the undead settlement PVP and do the level a lot and kill the Evangelists, and got so far only one Spiked Mace, that drop rate must be horrible. I surely have killed more than 100 of them. I want to make a new charakter with that weapon but I am not sure if it will be fun to get the weapon.

                                      At 14 STR (2-handed) and 40 DEX, it has 512 AR if infused with Sharp Gem. Odd, since it scales better than the Heavy one on STR. At least the DEX users can wield maces against heavy armored mobs.

                                      • I don't know who filled in all of the individual upgrade tabs, but it is an absolute mess. Almost all of them, almost every field is completely wrong. I have edited a few of them . It's a ton of work so if anyone has a +0 spiked mace, they could fill some of them in.

                                        • I'm honestly surprised at how little I see this weapon, it's stupid good. With 35 STR, a +10 Heavy Spiked Mace, and a 40 Faith CSC Lightning Weapon/Darkmoon Blade I deal 1100~ damage to players on the guaranteed combo (R1 -> L2 -> R1). Especially good against multiple players, spin bash catches people really often when they're trying to flank you. Build here:

                                            This weapon is stupidly strong. It destroys in PvP so hard, it's almost unfair. Pretty damn powerful in PvE too.

                                              40 STR 60 FTH, put the rest in endurance and some vigor and put on life ring +3, ring of favour +3 cloranthy ring +3 and prisoner's chain, use yorshka's chime and use darkmoon blade on the weapon for nearly 800 AR. In duels it's also a good idea to put on sunlight oath and deep protection to reach 940 AR, in fights simply hit light attack > weapon art > light attack, if your opponent is a ***** and likes to run around and keep his distance, bait him with the weapon art then hit the heavy attack to punish him, alternatively heavy attack > light attack > weapon art is also a viable punish, i've had many invasions so far, most players go down after the 3 hit combo and the weapon is insanely fun to use. Another tip, if you dont have darkmoon blade i'd recommend Lightning Blade, the damage is the same, but the main difference is lightning damage can be reduced by endurance levels, which is why darkmoon blade is better as most players will always level endurance and almost never level INT which increases your defense against darkmoon blade. Lightining Blade > Intelligience players Darkmoon Blade > Strength/Dex players Dark Blade > Faith/Intelligence/Pyromancer players Hope this helps.

                                                  Works fairly well on my Hollow build despite low scaling with Luck. I also carry a +10 Hollow Lothric Shield in my left which adds another 5 Luck levels, meaning at 40 Luck, the weapons boost me to 50. Casting Carthus Flame Arc and Power Within really racks up damage, even more so with Fire Clutch Ring. I also have fairly high Vitality to wear some medium armor with this combo and still get fast roll, which catches a lot of people off guard. Bleed isn’t terribly fast, but it helps every now and again. Hard to choose whether this weapon or Great Mace is better though.

                                                    This great hammer may not have the best raw damage or scaling compared to the other GHs, but it more than makes up for it because it’s just plain fun to use. While most GHs have a variation of Perseverance, which is nice for poise, the WA is a joy for swarming enemies (turns Deacons of the Deep into Deacons of the Stunlock), and if you can proc a bleed, it makes up for the missing damage. Great range, buffable, great hyper armor, and with the right combos, makes any fairly large enemy a breeze. Only downsides are that it’s a pain to farm and you don’t get a maniacal cackle when you’re swinging it. But I can live with that.

                                                      My farming recommendation: 1) equip your farming gear. For rings, I recommend equipping the hornet ring and the slumbering dragoncrest ring alongside your gold serpent ring. 2) start at cleansing chapel. 3) head through the first shortcut doors on the right side of the chapel. 4) take the elevator up. 5) go down the stairs to the right. 6) replenish health, use a coin, and buff. 7) backstab and finish the job. 8) rinse and repeat. Note: I like this method because you don't have to worry about fighting more than one enemy at a time.

                                                        Normally I don’t go around saying this word, but this weapon is actually OP. I get it, every weapon is OP or trash design on who wields it. But slap heavy infusion with a buff and you can literally “one shot” people (I say one shot loosely as if you get hit ONCE with this and you are open to the weapon art full combo which can and will kill you). The only saving grace is that this thing is a great hammer, meaning it’s slower then a tank without the ability to move. Not to mention it’s an extremely early weapon to get. In short, hope you don’t get hit by this monster, because you WILL die if you get hit by it...

                                                          For a bleed/luck build:
                                                          Main Hand- Hollow Spiked Mace (Blood inf only gains 7 extra bleed, has 50 less base damage, and does not scale with Luck. Hollow weapons can also be infused, so you can use Carthus Rouge if you want to make up for the 7 bleed)
                                                          Off Hand- Bleed Notched Whip (Has 75 bleed with Blood inf and a lot of range)
                                                          35 Luck (You gain 5 Luck from hollow weapon in main hand so you will actually have 40)
                                                          40 Str (Spiked Mace will be your main damaging)
                                                          Other stats depend on what other equipment you want to use.

                                                                  In my unending quest to create the perfect cleric build I've come to really appreciate and grow fond of this weapon. At 50 STR heavy infused+10 spiked mace deals 540 one handed. at 45 FTH a lightning blade buff and you get 722 one handed. My favorite thing to do with my Pale Cleric build is to use Sunlight Strait Sword WA, then Lightning infuse the Mace, 2H it with Grass Crest Shield on my back and kill pretty much anyone at SL120-160 in ~2.5 hits. This is of course only viable when somebody is willing to stand there and let you buff. This thing can compete with Mornes Hammer, and it definitely has a better moveset than Earth Seeker (In My Opinion, Earth Seeker is just endlessly baiting people into your hits by pretending you think that they're dumb enough to fall for that WA, it's a merciless Cleric weapon in PvE however.)

                                                                  This weapon however seems to shine with Poison and Bleed infusements. Even with my low luck I noticed that much like the wooden hammer a Bleed infusement gets jacked all the way up to 100 Status Effect points. nearly the same for this mace. A dangerous stunlock-fest combo is to Right hand a Spiked mace with Bleed and Left Hand a Wooden Hammer with Poison.

                                                                  Anyone in heavier armors such as Dragonslayor Amour or Black Iron set is pretty well finished. This works surprisingly better on Console than PC.

                                                                  A good baiting attack with this weapon is it's weapon art, You probably already know this, but if you just use the WA you do one spin, if you press R2 afterwords you'll do a second spin then a downward slam attack catching somebody with this is hard as the two spins, which don't deal much damage are usually a good indication to start rolling away, however you can launch into a second R2 immediatly afterwards to catch more eager combatants offguard with a punishing attack, this is easy to do on accident as DS3 tends to Que up to three moves sometimes (How DARE you button mash...)

                                                                  One last very unimportant note, this weapon does NOT deal any thrust damage it seems. I only bring it up as weapons such as the scythes can deal blunt damage (If the player strikes the target with the handle rahter than the blade it deals blunt damage) but this weapon despite it's menacing spikes doesn't seem to deal any subliminal thrust damage. Strike Damage can easily be favored in the game it's the main weakness of most enemies AND most armors, but the lack(?) of thrust damage is odd only for the sake of its appearance.

                                                                  One of the weapons that balances extremely well in PvE just as well in PvP, and probably the second leaast used. Despite being an early game weapon this is easily one of my favorite late game weapons.

                                                                      I farmed it a slightly more complicated way than I've seen but less walking: Item discovery gear, homeward bone/spell/coil, Silver Cat Ring, Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring, Rusted Coins, Hidden body.
                                                                      Cliff underside bonfire, pop coin and hidden body, run through door opposite of the one you're facing when you arrive
                                                                      Jump off cliff, should be an evangelist leading a group right below you (If you get there in time you can probably plunge attack it)
                                                                      Kill it, keeping Hidden Body up, then bone back to the fire and repeat

                                                                          Simple farming guide (worked for me): Collect all the farming stuff ya can, put it on, head to the road of sacrifice bonfire and head back up the elevator and get to where you first fight the demon, head through that area and kill the evangelists, go to the other tower where you find the chloranthy ring and mirrah set, drop down and kill that evangelist by the curse rotted greatwood boss room, rinse and repeat till you get the mace.

                                                                                          I just farmed this weapon using this method:From Cathedral of the Deep bonfire turn right and go across the bridge. There is one Evangelist on your left, one saw guy on your right. Throw a firebomb at the saw guy on your right and stay at the end of the bridge. The saw guy cannot enter the bridge so you can easily cheese him with a spear, great hammer or halberd. After killing him, go for the Evangelist.If you cannot kill the Evangelist really fast and the saw guy is causing you trouble, you want to cheese the saw guy from the bridge. If you can kill the Evangelist fast enough then don't bother with the saw guy. Notice that the Evangelist and saw guys deal plenty bleed damage, watch out for that. Also, there is another saw guy at the top the hill and if you are slow it will attack you. The Evangelist is very easy to backstab because it casts spells and I went for backstabs every killThe drop rate is really low and I personally got an item drop about every ten kills. One cycle took me about one minute because I always killed the saw guy. If you are higher level and can kill the Evangelist with a couple of hits, you can do 45 second cycles easily.

                                                                                              Great weapon if you want something different. However, I don't recommend going hard for the bleed stat as you would probably kill your opponent before the bleed matter even fills. Kills in 3-6 hits

                                                                                                The last hit of the combo never hits, which is crucial, because it happens to be the most important attack of that combo. Please, Fromsoft, get you *****ing ***** together

                                                                                                • While everyone's busy complaining about the Estoc, this is definitely one of those weapons that's arguably just as good if not better just chilling in the background.Put it on a 40/60 buff build and just people melt. And yeah, I can't say for certain about whether it's truly unparryable but it hasn't happened to me yet at least.

                                                                                                    I infused this bad boy with a heavy gem, giving it A scaling in strength. So far, i've done pretty well against invaders in Boreal Valley. And I absolutely destroyed the Demon in the catacombs who had been giving me trouble. I'm sure there are better weapons out there, but I'm loving this.

                                                                                                      I don't see why you wouldn't want to use refined on a value build.Should probably add that refined adds dex scaling (c at +2) to the page.
