Sunless Talisman is a Weapon in Dark Souls 3.

Talisman given to the knights of the Sunless Realm, who serve the nameless moon.

Scales with intelligence, which is rare for a miracle catalyst, but makes it compatible with Dark. In this Sunless Realm, this fact is related first as an initial warning.

Skill: Unfaltering Prayer
Temporarily increases poise while casting miracles, preventing enemy attacks from interrupting prayer. Works while equipped in either hand.

Notes and Tips:

  • Cannot be Infused or Buffed.
  • Reinforced with Twinkling Titanite
  • Dark miracles cast with this talisman will scale with both Intelligence and Faith, up to the softcaps of 45 Int and 45 Faith.
    • It appears to add a dark damage bonus per hit, similar to weapon buffs, to Lifehunt Scythe. This may be the case for the other damaging dark miracles as well.
    • Anything past 45 Int and Faith provides minimal returns.
    • Dark miracles cast with any other talisman will scale only with Faith up it's hardcap of 60, and gain no advantage.
  • At 60 INT and 60 FTH it has a spellbuff of 307.
  • Closely resembles the Darkmoon Talisman from Dark Souls 1 - the Blades of Darkmoon covenant item

Location/Where to Find

  • Obtained at the end of Sirris' quest line or after killing her.

So. How in world does this function with just plain old lighting spells? Does it only use FTH when determining damage or does it use both FTH + INT?

      • Anonymous

Uh...I hate to break it to you, but, while they may be Meta, they aren't god. The absolute top dog in this game are great weapons like Greathammers, great axes or ultra greatswords, typically used with Heavy Armor like Gundyr's set or Havel's set. I mainly use greatswords, and I cannot count the amount of times I've wiped the floor with straight sword users, but that doesn't mean they're bad. It depends on what they are and how they're used

Lifehunt Scythe gains a very big damage boost just by upgrading 30 FTH to 31 FTH.
A low level cleric can give very good use to this by killing Sirris early. Dorhy's Gnawing is very powerful at PvE!

Dont get fooled about the "softcap". Its 3sb per level before and 2 after lvl 45 up to 60. Totally worth it.

it's so sad that casting darkmoon blade with this is just worthless, saint's talisman at 60fth will give 230 magic damage, while this only 196

I'll never understand why it only scales with faith for dark blade. Darkmoon blade and lightning blade are understandable, but dark blade only applies 85% of the talisman scaling to the weapon instead of 95% like DMB and LB, and since you need to invest into both faith and int for this talisman to be worth the investment, I just think Dark blade should be treated as a dark miracle.

Here's a number comparison to see what dark blade was considered a dark miracle and scaled with both faith and int:

Lightning blade/darkmoon blade used with Yorksha's chime at 60 faith adds 235 lighting/magic damage. Dark blade used with sunless talisman (if dark blade were a dark miracle and scaled off of int with this talisman) at 60 faith and 60 int would add 261 dark damage

This isn't that much higher than lightning blade/darkmoon blade, and I don't think it's much to ask for considering the heavy investment in both faith/int.

For some reason that not even From knows, if you use unfaltering prayer with this (any spell, lightning stake works best imo) and then immediatly cast black flame, black fire orb, or black serpent with your mainhand pyroglove.... the Dark bonus from the sunless talisman carries over. Tested thoroughly, your stake damage is only slightly lesser than casted with a canvas, but your black pyromancies get a hefty bonus (and residual poise). Also, you can do lightning stake into fire surge and the poise from unfaltering prayer lasts quite a while. Not sure why or how any of this works, but it do.

                  • At 99 INT/FTH the spell buff is 331! I keep seeing people mention Lifehunt Scythe or Gnaw but don't forget about Undead Again! Its really only viable as a host, but since nobody ever uses nor speaks of this spell, you can easily one shot people as they wonder "What is this purple orb?" and it explodes and one shots them. Seriously, it'll one shot everyone at 60/60 and above. I'm pretty sure 45/45 as well. Even if you're at 30/30, you're probably going to be doing serious damage if not one shotting still. Just bringing attention to a spell I've never ever seen anyone use against me :)

It's between Iudex Gundyr and Firelink along the cliff on the right, next to a cloaked hollow staring into the mountains. Took long enough to find with no specific information.

                      • Would be cool....if miracles wouldn't have faith requirements. This makes only sense together with the Golden Ritual Spear on a int/fth build. But who does that? When we have pyromancies which draw their strength from both stats? And what would be the min SL requirements to come up with at least something useful? 120? 200??

Found her armor on her grave in Pit of Hollows, but not thing... this is not a reward for finishing her questline.

Why does this chime scale with Intelligence? It makes no sense from a Lore perspective, since it's supposed to be used by Blades of the Darkmoon to cast Darkmoon Blade, a purely Faith Miracle. This also probably explains why Sirris does so little damage, she has a crappy chime!

Caitha's Chime makes sense, however, sense it is the Catalyst of the Goddess of Tears, and is linked to the Dark and Tragedy.

Velka's Chime would have been a better candidate, since it Scales with Intelligence in Dark Souls 1, but not Faith. However, spells like Vow of Silence is considered a "Dark Miracle" in Dark Souls 3, and Vow of Silence is a tool of the Goddess Velka in Dark Souls 1. It would have made more sense (to some degree) to have the "Dark Talisman" be Velka's Talisman.

Also, "Dark" Blade only scales with Faith, even though it is a "Dark" Miracle. Dark Miracles scale with Intelligence and Faith, so why doesn't Dark Blade?!? Now the game isn't being updated anymore, and glaringly obvious issues still exist. Thanks, Fromsoft.

between this, saint's talisman & yorshka's chime which is the best for lightning and healing miracles? I've got 50 fth. and Sunless seems to give a much higher buff than the other 2. so why do people keep saying that the other 2 are better than Sunless?

fwiw I have been able to trade hits with weapons like the twin ring great swerds and the gundeers halbred weapon arts and interrupt their weapon art when using the lifehunt scythe and the unfaltering prayer on this talisman.

Why do we have talismans that give more damage to dark miracles when the only dark offensive miracles are the lifehunt scythe and dark blade (which for what I am reading, does not scale with int in this talismans).why from remove the good offensive dark miracles of DS2?

                                  • Anonymous

does anyone know if using healing miracles scales off both int and faith. I assume just faith, but it was never specified here.

Will work like a better sun talasmin with wolf ring on. And lifehunt scythes does INSANE damage with this one

Has anyone tested how good this talisman's scaling applies to darkmoon blade miracle buff? I'd like to make a classic dark souls 1 style darkmoon knightess build with the brass set and everything.

                                        • Anonymous

This talisman shares the appearance of the Darkmoon Talisman so it might be the same talisman and if so should not have any intelligence scaling or be useful for hexes.
