Lost sorcery from Oolacile, land of ancient golden sorceries. Distorts light in order to deflect magic.

A closely-guarded light manipulation spell that contorts the very fabric of fundamental laws, negating magic by denying its claim to physicality.

Notes

  • This spell casts a near-invisible 'wall' of light particles for a duration of roughly 3 seconds. During this time, any spell-based projectile cast at the player will be deflected around them.
  • It functions like the Weapon Art Spell Parry, but lasts much longer.
  • It can be used to completely avoid the damage of the dangerous "Arrow Barrage" spell cast by Aldrich, Devourer of Gods. Once you see Aldrich cast this spell in his second phase, simply jog out of his melee range and let your stamina max out. About one second before the barrage hits you, start casting Twisted Wall of Light. Keep recasting it until the barrage stops following you and goes off on its own. The only danger to you during that time are his soul spears, which can occasionally clip you even though they are redirected, dodge them if necessary. (I tested this with Heretic's Staff, at 12 Dex and was able to pull it off very reliably.)
  • The spell was previously a Hex in Dark Souls 2, under the name Twisted Barricade. Twisted Wall of Light and Twisted Barricade are essentially the same except Twisted Wall of Light is gold instead of black and lasts 2 seconds longer than Twisted Barricade.

Combine this with Emit Force, an Uchigatana, the golden crown, master’s attire, golden bracelets and eastern leggings to make Yasuo.

Deflecting a spell with twisted wall allows for a follow up cast that'll hit at an oblique angle. Often a deep soul will land on top of opponents herds without their noticing. Pretty fun

Free aiming your spells is one thing. But redirecting your own free aimed spells is another. This spell can actually be a dangerous tool in the right hands and practice. I've found it very useful for mixing up black serpents to create the weirdest timings for people to roll.

With Court Sorceror's Staff and the Sage's ring (for faster casting) I could get this spell to deflect Aldrich's Soul Spears. I could be standing in the arrow rain spamming it on cooldown, and a spear aimed at me would still go right through.

A frustrating limitation for an already niche, hard-to-use spell.

I guess I could roll through spells like any other normal dude, but there's just something about standing perfectly still and deflecting a spell seemingly out of nowhere that just fells so badass.

Especially when the opponent stops for a split second trying to figure out what just happened. This my friends. Is a fashion spell.

If you're on this page because you've got a free attunement slot with seemingly nothing else valuable available to you, consider Snap Freeze as a more useful general utility spell. If you've already got Snap Freeze in your build with a free slot or you're here because you hate mages and want to see them fall into the collapse gesture, this may well be the spell for you. It's an effective counter to ranged mages. I wouldn't suggest wasting a slot unless you've got literally nothing else even slightly useful to put in because it can be difficult to even remember to use instead of just rolling out of the way, but if you have an entirely 100% free slot, why not make the mages squeal? For too long have they remained far back in teamfights enjoying free chip damage and high one-shot potential. Now is the time to rise up against oppressive gank mages!

this works against gael's homing red orbs/skulls in phase 3. don't know how useful this would be to anyone, but thought i'd mention it since i couldn't find anything on it

This could've been an ok spell but they decided to add a shield that does the same thing and requires no int or faith requirement.

Almost nobody knows what this spell looks/sounds like. and it freaks them out. I tilted a lot of arena-goers with spamming this and the Light Spell Only to whack them afterwards with a classic R1 spam

Uh, from the time the Cast animation completes to the Gold Sphere disappears is 2 Mississippi's. Didn't detect any diff with LDC +0

When ringed city came out, midir once actually killed me with his laser show through 3 twisted walls of light even though they partially worked. Other times it worked better

It should be noted in the Notes that this Magic is based on the Silver Pendant of Oolacile, given to Artorias in his quest against the Abyss.
The pendant was imbued with the magical spell necessary to deflect magic of a particular dark nature ( DS1 ).

Most underrated spell in the game. This spell was MADE to fight ganks. Whenever there's more than one caster, one will often roll catch you, in these stuations this is better than rolling! I keep this slotted during invasions and pyro/magic/lightning spear ganks fall apart.

Use affinity twisted wall of light then soul dreg in a combo with high casting speed medium range during PvP. They project so fast and wildly it's hard to miss

Hey guys, use your heads. Dodging IS the tired and true tactic, but I myself am a sorcery-user(Tho 3 spells. I use this spell, and Crystal Magic Weapon, and Great Farron Dart) and all I got to say is this spell helps since I have a medium load, because of that sometimes I face a foe who is good at aiming or has some more exotic spells that reek havoc when mastered... So I employ this spell for moments where evasive action would set them up for something else.

I have also managed to on occasions block a nasty soul spear or twelve in a round of co-op to protect my host on the way to the boss-battle.

Most anything has some usage or another, creativity is an important part to using resources.

This spell is actually very good, especially against Aldrich. The only problem it has, is that "magical" types of ennemies, are so rare and far appart from eatch others. It's not worth losing an attunement slot for it. I often use it against Aldrich but that's pretty much the only time I use it.

Oddly (and amusingly) enough, this spell deflects YOUR OWN spells as well, if you cast them back to back. Tested by throwing chaos fire orbs and black fire orbs immediately after casting twisted wall (like, queuing up the actions with a catalyst in each hand) and the fireball appears several feet to the right of my character. Interestingly, the trajectory itself is perfectly normal, it's just the starting position that's different. The damage appears to work as normal, but very often will this effect cause your spell to miss, or hit an obstacle. Or can this spell interaction perhaps be used for some god-tier throwing spells from behind cover strategies? This spell has never really seemed worth the trouble to me, but I think there's some fun things to be done here.

"Two Sunlight Medals can be obtained if following Sirris' questline while having the Warrior of Sunlight pledge equipped. "

I cant confirm this atm ver. 1.08/1.22

It is effectively a "light" version of twisted barricade from Dark Souls 2, but with lower requirements.
It even has the same icon, albeit with a different color.

Has anyone tested this against soul stream? I assume the stream would just blast through and hit you, but the thought of it deflecting of in a random direction amuses me.

While it isn't super useful in PVE, there is nothing funnier than watching a caster waste their fp trying to hit you while you have this

                                              • This spell comes in pretty handy vs Aldrich, took me a couple of attempts to practice the timing, but one you got it down it nullifies his arrow rain spell.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8v5AC0O3Zg

In other words, Crystal soul spear, and maybe soul stream? It's like cast light. Use it for one part of the game, and swap it because you don't have enough attunement slots. I even stopped using cast light, because, you could just go invisible, mask your sounds, and run pass everything.

                                                  • Anonymous

reminds me of the silver pendent's use when fighting manus. Manus's AOE dark beads always crushes me, until i found out about the pendent. This works the same way i suppose, a boss has an AOE spell you cant or have a hard time dodging? cast this and dont. As most spells are quite easy to dodge, casting this in a duel might be less useful.

                                                    • Anonymous

it wont reflect sorceries back at the caster, it will just pretty much nullify them if you time this spell right. In order words, just *****ing roll instead.
